I am extremely disappointed with how this therapy facility handled a situation that was completely outside of my control. I had to cancel my appointment approximately an hour and a half before the scheduled session because I received a call from my son's school informing me that he was not feeling well and needed to be picked up immediately. As any parent knows, illnesses and emergencies do not happen on a schedule. Children can become sick at any time, and sometimes there is simply no way to provide additional notice. Despite explaining the situation, I was still charged a $50 cancellation fee. When I spoke with the bookkeeper, Gladys, there was no willingness to consider the circumstances or show any flexibility. I was told that the fee could not be waived or reimbursed, regardless of the reason. What makes this especially disappointing is that this is a facility that works with children, including autistic children. Families caring for children with special needs often face unexpected challenges, illnesses, sensory overload, and meltdowns that cannot always be predicted within a strict cancellation window. I would expect a therapy center serving these families to show more understanding and compassion. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling like the policy mattered more than the well-being of the children and families they serve. Rather than feeling supported, I felt like just another number being charged a fee. As a result, today was my last session with this facility. I will be taking my business elsewhere to a therapy provider that values families, understands real-life circumstances, and prioritizes children over profits. I feel so lucky we found on our path Progressive Steps. My son does Ot, social, speech and developmental therapy with them and ALL the therapists are AMAZING! Sheryl, the coordinator, is always available to help us with anything we need. I see my son doing every day better and better and with them I'm learning too how to talk to him in a way that he can better understand. He is happier then ever! This one star review is about how they are able to get insurance to cover your child's speech therapy once they have aged out of the program. They gave my son a insurance code that meant he was getting low oxygen to his brain and is basically having trouble speaking because of this. Well that is 100% NOT TRUE, and claiming that he has this is Insurance Fraud!!! So unless you want your child to have this crazy diagnosis following him or her around don't go to them. Almost 90% of the time speech is an out of pocket expense and if they say it's covered it isn't. You will get this large bill because someone on the insurance side finally looked a little closer at the billing. read more

I do not recommend Progressive Steps. They do not care about the well being of the families. They only care about the money. My son was getting OT & Child Development with them and on a wait list for speech. 1. The Child development specialist quit the company, we were getting a new therapist which is where it went South. Shannon was rude and condescending. The OT specialist was amazing!! Well my family was exposed to Covid-19 so per CDC guidelines we were quarantining and my son was coughing and sneezing. When I texted Shannon to let her know, she replied back about attendance. When I mentioned to her about taking precautions for staff and other Families with autoimmune systems I then got a rude message from Cheryl stating that my services were placed on hold due to attendance and that they can terminate services since they have a waitlist. I also want to add that she mentioned she would contact all my therapists to inform them that we were placed on hold until she heard back from me since there is a miscommunication with staff and myself. When I called back of course they didn't pick up. This company does not care about the families health and safety. Based upon this experience I find them to be completely negligent to follow CDC guidelines during this pandemic. read more

A program that treats your child like a money bank. Commit insurance fraud so be careful. They will ask for more and more therapy which means the therapy is not working. So sad that they are supposed to be there to support families but only care about money. read more

I had a horrible breakout and needed to be seen. The staff squeezed me in within the hour and were extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. Bree was fantastic at helping me resolve my skin emergency and went above and beyond to recommend additional skin care products and treatment options to help with my breakouts. To say that Progressive Steps has worked with our families wild schedule would be an understatement. I have three kids who are utilizing all the different services that Progressive Steps offers. We have never been disappointed (except when our therapist went and had a baby of her own! We loved her, but also have loved the woman who took over for her). My eldest started receiving speech in early 2018 and we've been with them since. They communicate quickly and effectively with both myself and my husband, as well as handling all there is to handle with insurance and regional center. Cheryl is more than happy to take my frequent calls and work with our schedule as best as she can so we don't have long waiting times in between sessions and so I don't have to drive out everyday (I live in Lancaster, about 40 minutes from PS). All the therapists are quick to respond to inquires and all transitioned to zoom when the pandemic first shut everything down flawlessly. While I am thankful that we are back in person, I know that if my son's health ever became fragile again I would receive more than adequate services through tele appointments. My children love showing up during our sessions (Three times a week for OT, PT, speech, group and in home Child development) and they have always loved everyone who has worked with them. I always feel heard and respected when I talk to the staff about our wishes and expectations and I know my children are being treated with respect as well. This place is amazing! Two of my children have received speech therapy here and their therapists Patty & Sonia are like family. My kids have made incredible progress and it wouldn't have happened without these amazing ladies or this place! Cheryl was so helpful with getting services started and dealing with the insurance companies. She is very professional and I'm not sure why anyone would say that she isn't. Unfortunately there is a waitlist but that's because this is such an amazing place. My advice is to get on the list, you'll be happy you did when a spot becomes available and you see your child blossom like mine have. Every time I come here my sons therapist is just sitting there talking knowing we are sitting there waiting . All she does is stare at us and doesn't even say I'll be right with you or anything. My session starts at 11 am n today we started at 11:15 am ! But when I'm late or cancel they call me threatening to cancel services which is totally unacceptable.... read more

I couldn't be happier with Progressive Steps. From the very start Cheryl made sure to help me get my daughter the services she needed and as soon as they were available. We have insurance but also go through regional center. We have never had a problem. Cheryl is always very thorough and professional when it comes to it. She is so sweet and so involved in the well being of not only the children but parents and staff as well, more so now with COVID. I feel comfortable going in and knowing we are taken care of. The therapists there are just amazing. We attend group and Tobey & Megan are just so great with the kids and dedicated to helping these kids grow. We have Claudia & Sonia for speech. Claudia was our first therapist & we couldn't be more grateful for that, she is so caring and loving, Sonia is so sweet & she's on top of it she knows so much in her field. We've had Megan for physical, but now have Christi and they are just amazing. They are detailed & any question I have they help me with a smile, they were so helpful through Covid and online therapy guiding me through it all. We also have Tiffany, for OT, although newer to Progressive Steps, she has been doing an amazing job with my daughter. She's so sweet always with a smile and she's on top of her game plan. Overall we love everyone here we've bumped into, including parents, because we spend so much time here for our children and their well-being it becomes like family. I have been taking my children to Progressive Steps for over three years. Between my children, we have had speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and early intervention. I feel that Progressive Steps hires the best therapists in the field.My life as a Mother and my children's lives are significantly easier, more rewarding and happier because of progressive steps. I have used progressive steps thru Regional Center and my private insurance. I have had numerous therapists for each service, due to having multiple children, and have enjoyed all of them. I would suggest that any parent who is looking into intervention services for their child, to call Progressive Steps. This review is not based on the actual therapists who work for Progressive Steps Inc. in Santa Clarita, CA because I never got the chance to even get through the door to meet them. This review is about their person in charge of the Santa Clarita, CA office, Cheryl Keehne. Okay, so I am looking into private OT services for my child since in two years she'll be starting private school where my husband works. I contacted my insurance company to see what my percentage of the cost would be as you have to do these days so there are no surprises when the medical bills come. I get my insurance info. that I need and decide to contact Progressive Steps Inc. of Santa Clarita, CA. Unfortunately, at least how I feel now, Cheryl Keehne is the only point of contact for this organization for anything. I e-mail the given e-mail address on the Progressive Steps Inc. site asking how much speech services are from their company, (so that I could calculate my percentage of the cost minus my insurance's). The response from Cheryl Keehne was: "Often times we can bill your private insurance for speech. Have you investigated this option? I can help you through the process. Also, some cases can be referred to your local special education preschool services by contacting your home school and requesting evaluation. Please contact my office if you need further information, or email me with you phone number and I will contact you." Hmm...where's the answer to my question? Also, I don't remember asking Cheryl Keehne to refer me to services outside of her organization but apparently since I asked what the costs for Progressive Steps Inc. services were Cheryl Keehne decided that I should just go local, AKA "free". The best part about her response was "if you need further information"....yes, I did...the cost. Understanding that acceptance of medical insurance is new for Progressive Steps Inc. Cheryl Keehne might get a one-time pass for her dismissive communication skills. However, the fact that I replied to her saying thanks but it's apparent that she thinks I should look into services elsewhere and her reply to that was that I misunderstood her e-mail, Cheryl Keehne gave a bad representation on what type of company would hire someone with such poor communication skills to be in charge of their image. Cheryl Keehne showed a lack of experience and expertise. I just can't imagine that the organization who put her in charge is any different from that. That being said, I didn't even get a chance to get inside the building because of Cheryl Keehne so I don't know about the services of the therapists. read more

This review is based solely on the owner Cheryl. My son received therapy here and the therapists were amazing. The first issue that I encountered was that once we obtained authorization through the regional center Cheryl told me she no longer had openings with a therapist for my son. But she was able to find us a time slot when we were willing to pay the cash price of $95/hr which is far more then they get paid from insurance companies or regional center. Our assigned contact at the regional center tried calling her and setting up times for my son and she was given the same run around of having nothing available and Cheryl not returning phone calls. I just find it extremely bad conduct and unethical to prioritize cash patients over other forms of payment patients. My second issue is that my insurance did not cover his therapy which she told me it did, she did not tell me therapy wasn't covered until after the second session was performed. She said that if we wanted to continue therapy we had to pay cash and tried to discourage us from applying with the regional center. We were willing to pay the cash price and told her that. I applied to the regional center and heard back almost instantly from them and got my son set up them within 2 weeks. We wanted to hold off on therapy for those 2 weeks to save $200. She told us she could not save our time slot. She never said we would be billed for the 2 sessions that already occurred that she told me was covered by my insurance and I never received a bill in the mail. But I was sent to collections over a year later. Cheryl runs this business very poorly and unethically. I would not recommend it to anyone even though the one therapist we encountered was amazing! read more

We have had a great experience with Progressive Steps. Nathalie has been working with our four children for a couple of years and is fantastic. She recognizes what each of them needs to work on and comes up with creative, innovative ways to teach them. My son has been seeing his physical therapist Julie,and his occupational therapist Melissa on a weekly basis since October of 2016. He has made such great improvements since starting there, and he loves loves loves those 2 ladies to pieces. They are both so caring, thoughtful and have been extremely helpful in guiding me toward activities I should be doing at home to help my son through out the week. My son also works with Michelle, his developmental specialist twice a week. She is another amazing wonderful person who has helped my son grow in so many ways, and my son waits excitedly for her on the days she comes over. Our insurance didn't cover developmental therapy or speech therapy, and Cheryl showed me how to get in touch with the Regional Center so my kiddo could receive everything he needed. When my insurance company started denying therapy sessions, and revoking the authorizations they had previously given, naturally I freaked out. Cheryl has sat with me on so many occasions and calmed me down while clearly explaining exactly what was going on. She has spent so much time figuring out our super annoying insurance and I am so grateful for that. You can not go wrong with having you child attend therapy at Progressive Steps. Every single therapist and staff member is so warm and welcoming, and I've never had a question unanswered. They have become more than a place my son receives therapy. They have become an integral part of our lives. read more

Our developmental specialist, Claudia has been working with our twin girls for more than a year now and my husband and I have been amazed with how receptive the girls have been to her teaching strategies. She is warm, loving and extremely attentive to both of the children and their reaction to her arrival at our front door is priceless. One of our girls is a bit shy around people and she literally starts clapping and jumping when Claudia walks through the front door. Their sessions are back-to-back and the girls usually race to Claudia to try to be the first to work with her when she arrives. While she works with one baby, the other baby looks on in admiration and anticipation of their turn to sing songs, interact with the new toys that she has brought to the session and to get that one-on-one uninterrupted time with Claudia. My husband and I are always kept in the loop with exactly how well the girls are doing and ideas for how to help them continue to grow and meet important milestones. So far our work with Progressive Steps and the regional center has been seamless. We feel very fortunate to have found this agency. read more

My son has been a client of Progressive Steps for 2 1/2 years and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences with them. The staff not only provides the services for my son but has been an incredible support system for me when I have needed advice. When we began with Progressive Steps, we were paying for services ourselves, but when it was clear that my son was eligible for Regional Center services, they advised me to get him reassessed and provided the reports. On the other side, they have always been honest with me when my son did not need help in a certain area, or no longer needed a specific service. The therapists have always been fantastic with my son (even when his behavior was sometimes challenging) and they helped me to deal with those behaviors. After every session, each therapist reviewed what they had done that day and ways I could continue to the work during the rest of the week. For each reporting period, the therapists reviewed the assessments with me and helped me to prepare goals for the upcoming 6 months. The social skills group (pre-preschool) that they have for 2 year olds has done wonders for him as well. It has really helped to prepare him for preschool. We are at the point, where my son is turning 3 and it is time to move on to the school system. I kinda feel like I am losing a second home. Thanks Progressive Steps!!! read more
