I'm happy to give Progressive Tech 5 stars. My laptop had been acting up for weeks, I supposed because it was getting old. Then I spilled wine on the keyboard and thought it was beyond repair, but brought it in to Progressive. I was not enthusiastic about the diagnostic fee, but what it revealed was that a) they keyboard could be replaced and b) the hard drive was failing - unrelated to the wine spill - and could be replaced. Progressive took care of everything quickly, provided me with the options without being pushy, explained the fees and delivered as promised. What I thought was a too-old laptop is now working beautifully and their work extended the lifetime of my laptop. I was dumbstruck. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING! I had just wiped my partner's entire hard drive down to a bare bones version of Windows 7. How? My external hard drive quit on me sometime in December 2009. I didn't freak out, but I was disappointed, because both my fiance and I back up all of our files on the external. Fast-forward to February. I decided that I would get the thing fixed or attempt to get the data off of it. I walked in and asked what could be done; the nice young man provided the breakdown of how they work. I paid for the least priority diagnostic and left them with my drive. A full 2 weeks later, I received a call from a technician. He verified that my hard drive's motor had died. He provided the options of restoring the motor, purchasing a new hard drive and transferring the data for me or purchasing a new hard drive and providing me with a back-up of my data. I selected one and ran with it. They did the job in the time they stated and I paid a nominal fee. It was not great, but not bad either. Way to go Progressive, for meeting my expectations. read more

I've gone to Progressive Tech twice now and both times they were awesome. The first time I went they were unable to fix my hard drive because it had been too damaged. However, they set my expectations properly on the front end that it might not be able to be fixed, and when I came to retrieve it they took the time to explain what was going on. They offered me another, more expensive solution, and then helped me weigh whether I wanted to go in that direction. The second time I went, I thought my computer was unable to start. The guys figured out that there was a problem with the charger dock, and were able get the computer to take a charge. Because it was such an easy fix for them, they were totally cool and decided not to charge me. As a result of my experiences at Progressive Tech, I would definitely take my computers there for any problems I might experience in the future. The staff here are helpful, knowledgeable, communicative, honest and efficient. They made sure I was aware of the work they were doing before doing it, backed up all my documents and music (which I had neglected to do ever), installed an anti-virus program and helped me download free software. Nice people and good customer service. They actually kept my computer for 2 months while I was saving up money to get the thing back. Not quite sure what happened to my PC, but all I would see is a blue screen when I restarted the thing. They told me it was a corrupt OS (I think) and they were able to save my images and all my music, which I cherish dearly. They even saved my favorites on my internet explorer and made a suggestion on a anti-virus program. I just think that the price was a little too much, $280, but the service they provide made it worth it. I would recommend using them. read more

These guys did a great job saving my hard drive. They were professional, honest (yes, I verified with other knowledgeable sources), fair with their prices, and timely. Timely is relative. They are first come, first serve kind of place with the option to pay for faster service. I got my hard drive from my caffeinated laptop within two weeks. I paid extra for the encasement which wasn't required. More recently I dropped off that laptop and a much older laptop with the associated power cords for recycling. No charge, just dropped it off and I was done with it. I like these guys and plan to continue doing business with them in the future regardless of the fact that I live 30 minutes north of Seattle. read more

First off a word of advice...BACK UP YOUR FILES! I finally had to learn my lesson the hard way. My WD My Passbook external hard drive failed out of the blue after I've neglected to back up my climbing photos from the latter half of 2015. After numerous attempts to get the data off the drive myself but to no avail, I started looking for a reputable local data recovery shop. After doing a ton of research online and checked out lots of reviews and ratings from local users, I finally contacted Progressive Tech (PT). Although there were some negative reviews on here, they all seemed to have been rectified by the business so that told me they take customer feedback very seriously. A few days after bringing down the hard drive for diagnostic, I got a call and PT was unable to recover my data. But before I started crying hysterically over my precious photos that held a lot of sentimental value, PT informed me that as a last resort they could send the drive down to a reputable cleaning room in California should I authorize them to do so. The downside of course, the final price tag after a successful full recovery would range between $2200 and $2700. But if it were unsuccessful then there would be no charge. Even though I had pretty much given up on the possibility of getting any of my data back, I was still holding onto a glimpse of hope that a miracle was in store. After nearly two weeks of anxious waiting, PT called and said that it was a ~100% recovery, with the "~" denoting that only a handful of files weren't recoverable. I ended up paying high end of the price quote, but I was ecstatic and more than okay with that outcome, since I had over 12,000 RAW photo and video files totaling 275+ GB and could potentially have lost it all! BIG WHEW thanks to Progressive Tech! Meanwhile...backing up all my files to the cloud. read more

Both of the intake people were rude when I dropped off the computer and when I came to check on the status. They had my computer for several days to fix it, and when I got it back they had irretrievably deleted a 20 page document that was a detailed account of my son's baby "journal." It was at least a year's worth of moments that I recorded because they were one of a kind, I wanted to remember them. They did not charge me for the repair, and also gave me a worn out computer of little value that they had on the premises as some sort of apology. The owner, I know, was afraid I would sue. They did offer to send the computer to some sort of "diagnostician," but told me the cost to them would be about $4000, and that there probably no chance of retrieving the data. This place is a rip off !! Took my computer in for some virus removal and got a call back saying I needed a new hard drive...total price in excess of $500. My computer is a year and a half old... We Fix repaired it this afternoon over the phone in less than an hour. I did not need a new hard drive !! And when I said no thank you to them at progressive they were quite rude and told me they couldn't guarantee any of the work they did since I didn't accept the full bid. I bought my old sony vio laptop to them. It was always failing---overheating and shutting offf, shutting down after 30 minutes, super slow. The straw that broke the camel's back was that I couldn't even turn it on after a while. Super knowledgeable staff. I liked that they didn't talk down to me, or talk over my head with a bunch of jargon. They just explained what the problem was in easy to understand terms and gave me their recommendations with prices. They worked very fast. They were a little pricy, but the work was excellent! They recommended I replace the entire harddrive and reinstall windows. I upgraded to a sold state drive (SSD). It wasn't cheap (about $300 was my total bill), but i basically had a new upgraded computer with twice the memory, a better processor. They even saved all my pictures, documents, bookmarks on my browser and reinstalled those files. So, it was just like my old computer, but faster, and with more memory! i am going to buy a new harddrive for my apple and definitely have them install it for me! read more

I took the day off work, had my 5-year-old daughter with me, and knew every detail of the project. Did I look like a criminal trying to steal it? How did I know all of those details? I took them my incredibly slow computer and paid $50 for the diagnostic. They called me early the next day with a clear diagnoses and charge. The tech on the phone patiently answered all of my questions. Unfortunately, my computer ended up completely crashing out while they were trying to fix it. When they called with the bad news, they were again incredibly gentle and patient....explaining everything as laymenly as I needed them too regarding what happened. They offered advice and pros and cons for each solution I mentioned. Although it did seem a bit much to pay just to retrieve my data and install it on my new computer....I will definitely look no further for professional tech services. read more

Couldn't get my old internal hard drive to spin up when trying to transfer to contents to a new laptop, even though I had done it successfully a few days earlier with a different computer at a different location. Took it to Progressive Tech to determine if it was a user error or if I had compromised it during that time period. The friendly guy behind the counter checked it for free and told me he had connected just fine. He encouraged me to try an alternate power source and advised me a different order to hook up the components to my laptop. He also gave me a quote (pretty reasonable) on the spot for data transfer in case I couldn't get it working on my own. An hour later and I'm back in business, thanks to his advice. Wow. I'm a computer dummy. I called a bunch of repair services this morning because my wireless stopped working over the weekend. PT was the only one that called me back (and within 30 minutes!) Lucky for me, they had a cancellation today. I had a problem with a computer giving an error when upgrading the operating system, when the a year ago whenwe got this error the computer crashed, and a technician fixed it but could not explain why it happened. We came to Progressive Tech because we wanted an expert to do the upgrade so it wouldn't crash, and the other technician was backed up. At drop-off, Progressive Tech said they could do a diagnostic to try to get to the source of the problem, and I agreed even though that wasn't our original objective because I thought we could solve the problem in the long run. However, the diagnostic (which cost ~$80) came up with nothing being wrong. When I commented that they should warn customers in the future that a diagnostic may not come up with an answer (so that customers can better decide whether or not to do a diagnostic), they became arrogant and said that it's a benefit for a doctor to tell you that nothing is wrong. They did not listen or acknowledge that I spent an extra $80 that I might not have spent. Then they charged an additional ~$100 to do the upgrade. So their prices were high, and arrogance was high, although they did the upgrade fine. read more

Recently, I suffered an external hard drive crash that imperiled a couple hundred gigs of design data, and Progressive was able to recover 100% of it. I first used Progressive Tech back in 2010 to recover my data from an unexpected CPU crash. Then I recommended my son to them when his laptop went weird during the Windows 10 upgrades. This time when my other CPU crashed I figured that I would try a local Everett computer service and save myself some drive time and money. Well it was not worth it, they did have a lower cost and their data recovery was not good. So I drove down to Progressive Tech. I was amazed and very satisfied with (again) with the Progressive Tech service and personnel. PT recovered EVERYTHING!! There was a very small communication lag for authorizing someone else to pick-up my hard drive, but that was very quickly corrected. Interesting business model they have here. Context is my computer was broken with some hardware + keyboard issue. Hardware problem = Hard disk cable being loose and requires tightening. Software problem = need to update my BIOS and drivers. Keyboard problem = need replacement and installation. Problem 1: So, given i could do the software part myself, i asked if they could just tighten it so that i could install software myself. Theoretically this should decrease the labor effort, but they said the price tag is $75 regardless of whether i opt for fixing the Hardware or software. They said it was a "package" deal. (what?) Problem 2: Keyboard issue. They said the replacement keyboard costs $69.95 + $15 shipping. I found a cheaper deal in amazon and asked if i could supply my own keyboard. Their response: there will be additional $75 labor if i supply my own keyboard and there won't be any additional labor if Progressive tech guys ordered it themselves. (what?) Result: The whole thing was causing me enough problems and I'd rather just pay them and have my computer working again given that i have already spent the money for diagonistic and do not want to disassemble my computer. So total price tag is $65 (diagnostic) + $85 (keyboard) + $75 (labor) = $225. I understand that you need to build business, pay for employees, and make a profit, but to charge customers inflated prices for obviously unrealistic reasons is a bad business . I will be happy to pay if my computer works but will never recommend this place to anybody. The interaction with Progressive Tech made me feel like i am talking to a service looking for ways to charge me more money. I suggest you either change how you treat customers or just get better at camouflaging your exorbitant pricing. read more

My 1.5 year laptop was having trouble locating the hard drive. When paid for a diagnosis, they said the hard drive was about 50%. I decided to pay for a new hard drive ($150) and the labor to install and duplicate it ($75). I called back after the weekend to see if it was ready to pick up. Turns out the hard drive failed while they were working on it. The technician said they would match the labor price since it unexpectly failed. I agreed, however when I looked at the quote in my email, it said $100 for labor plus the hard drive. When I called 30 minutes later to ask about it, the technician said the grand total would be $275. I basically had no other choice; Either get my computer with a failed hard drive or my computer with all my contents wiped. read more

Who wouldn't give them five stars when they fiddled with my daughters computer for about 15 minutes and figured out she hadn't updated certain drivers...and they didn't charge a thing.
