My first time there Matt was able to salvage a not cheaper brand laptop by installing a new hard drive for a very reasonable price. I've had that laptop for several years now. Since then, we've brought a few others in for repairs and have mostly been able to get them all up and running. He also sometimes has sales of computers and accessories. Worst service.. The owner took 90 dollars as advance and after 10 days told me the laptop cannot be repaired and that he would return me 60 dollars.. But when I went to take my laptop my laptop, the laptop was completely broken.. and the owner simply gave me the hard drive and didnt return any money.. Don't trust this place. What a scam. We took a nearly new Lenovo laptop in, which had taken a very short fall onto a soft surface and the charging connector was no longer connecting. The guy at the front desk insisted it could be fixed. Yet, we should have been suspicious when he said that no matter the outcome, we would pay $99 just for them to open it. Then again, he assured us it could be fixed. Good reviews instilled trust in this operation (who wrote the reviews? were they hand picked or paid?). NOPE! $99 with no humility and no apologies and no alternatives, we paid the $99 with no prospects for a repair, just to take the laptop home. Please search for a reputable operation that will only assure you that your problem can be easily fixed if they are proven to be knowledgeable professionals. I hesitated on writing this review because I was in shock for a while after this experience. I came here last summer and I was appalled to say the least. First thing I was asked was, "How long are you in the country for? You don't seem like you're from around here." I'm an American citizen, but that is irrelevant to the service I am requesting for my laptop. A week after the laptop was fixed it broke again. My previous shop guy retired and I've been pretty lucky until I jumped up and bumped my Mac Book pro off the table. Very helpful and quick! Diagnosed my problem and actually recommended *against* the long-term fixes they could make due to my laptop being on its last leg. Then they offered to order me a new charger or that I could order it myself off of Amazon. I appreciate the honesty and total straight-forwardness about my issue and its solutions. Don't let the reviews citing "bad customer service" scare you off- the person at Computer Love knows what they're doing and they'll be totally straight with you. Mean, nasty & rude owner, Matthew. Was my first time there, walked in door, i was the only customer. Explained i "brought my chromebook." He wouldn't look up. Tried making conversation with him.. A scowl on his face. He told me he "had a bad day." I know exactly what is wrong with my Chromebook. It needs a new charger "bridge" because it is bent. No chargers i have tried, including the one it came with, would fit inside to charge it up. He told me i have the "wrong" charger. I tried to say, 3 times: "I know, but the charger that came with it no longer fits it either, it broke when i tried to fit it on the bridge and this is a temporary replacement charger. It's not the charger itself that is the problem, but the interior of the chromebook that is defective." He refused to hear a word i said. He told me it "couldn't be fixed." Then he said "he'd look at it. Then he said "it cannot be fixed." Then he told me to "leave it with him." He pointed to a shelf with other customers' computers on it (in line ahead of mine.) He said "i have all of those there." I said "ok," but i'll take it home until you can get to it. I'll make an appointment to bring it back . . . I can still charge it enough to use it awhile longer . . . . This made him more angry and he said: "he couldn't fix it." Then he said "I've given you good advice, but, you won't take it and and you and i would not get along so i can't help you." Then, two women walked in and he continued his nasty tirade, in front of them. I was stunned. I took my Chromebook and walked out. This place is great!!!! I kept getting blue screens on my pc. I called the shop, he said come right in. I left my pc over the weekend, he mounted things that were not mounted, he put thermal goo stuff on my graphics card and heat sink!!! And upgraded one of my ram sticks(that was the problem) and didn't charge me for the mounting or thermal goo stuff. Nor for the upgraded ram stick. And he charged less than his own quote!!!!! Also didn't help that I spilled coffee on my laptop, so I had the expectation it was a goner. I'm a fan, and I trust Matt Horon and his company implicitly. He's dug my machines out of the holes that I've managed to dig them into a number of times, always with a steady hand and straight-ahead counsel. He's one of those rare (these days) service providers that is more interested in what's good for his customers (maybe I should call the relationship one of clients?) than ringing up another invoice with an opp for an upsell on the side. Let's face it, most peeps don't go to shops like this for random visits, it's almost always due to a problem, at the worst time. I'm sure he's got his share of drama, but he keeps an even keel. Oh, and don't let his phone demeanor throw you, he's just a bit more binary than the average tan-bed salesperson, but that's what you want from someone in his position! Go there. Use them. Capitol Hill residents with computer problems, look no further, Computer Love is where you want to go! My 2-3 year old Dell laptop's wireless card broke. At the time, I had no idea what was wrong with it. Seattle University's IT was useless so I decided to go shopping for near by computer repair shops. My first stop was ebit, and they were going to charge me over $40 for a diagnostic, which is basically telling me that my computer is broken then charge me labor and parts on top of that. Then I came to Computer Love. Location: it's located INSIDE Bluebird ice cream and just walk up the stairs. Matt, the owner, is an extremely nice guy. The diagnostic was just $20 and he identified the problem immediately. To be even more accommodating, he let me borrow a wireless usb adapter so I can connect to the internet while he put in an order for a new wireless card. He called later when the card arrived and installed it on the spot. We booted it up, checked to see if it was working properly and I was on my way. Quick turn around and repair! My main laptop for my home network went to the black screen and 4 beeps (bad RAM). Called them as soon as they opened on Saturday, dropped the laptop off. They let me know right off the bat that they wouldn't have time to look at it until Tuesday, but they'd call me. Sure enough, Tuesday rolled around, call, they found bad RAM in my system, had the replacement on hand and I was able to pick it up after I got off work. Under 100$ for parts and labor! I brought in my Lenovo laptop here after a botched attempt at resetting it to factory settings. I do this after every work contract and this time for some reason I did something majorly wrong in the set up process and Windows wouldn't start up anymore. I called Lenovo for technical help, they said it might be a hard drive issue, but I since I was out of their warranty (I only bought this laptop 2 years ago!!), they basically told me they couldn't do anything and good luck. So I called Computer Love and brought it in to Matt. Matt took it in for diagnostic and would let me know if I needed a new hard drive, and if not, he'd get it running again. He called me the next day and it was ready for pick up! Luckily nothing was wrong with the hard drive and now it's running like before! He even added some MSFT office applications for me. I am SO happy with the service and most importantly, the cost was super reasonable. Painless process from drop off to pick up. Great place for computer users and needs GREAT TECH MATT really knows what he is doing

So after calling Computer Love to ask about how long a repair should take to diagnose a problem and what cost to expect I was told they would charge 75 dollars and take two days. I was told it would take this long because they had to run mem-test and other hard-ware diagnostics. Ok no problem. Being a self-starter and wanting to save computer love time in diagnosing what the problem was (so I could get my computer back faster) I ran the software myself. When I called them back the guy who picked up the phone said he was offended that I would ask those questions or do any trouble shooting myself and said they would refuse to service my computer because I ran some tests they themselves would have run. I was willing to pay their 75 dollar diagnostics fee but apparently its offensive to the point of refusing service that I would run a memory or hard drive stability test to confirm they weren't the problem. Came across as pretty rude, arrogant, and shady. read more

I'm completely baffled by the number of positive reviews here. I have never been met with such unprovoked rudeness and lack of respect at any service establishment. It was especially surprising for a place that emits this cozy vibe of being a friendly neighborhood small business - places I much prefer to do business with. Here is exactly what happened: I walked in and asked the owner Matt if he could take a look at my Macbook, which appears to be dying. I showed him the error messages that were appearing during a Safe Boot and asked if a data recovery was possible. From the get-go, Matt harbored an inexplicably resentful attitude and indicated to me in a passive aggressive manner that Computer Love does not work for free. I never once implied I was looking for free service so I kind of stood there speechless, trying to figure out in my head what I did to deserve this attitude. Which was nothing. Matt then told me they can replace the hard disk for a fee and I told him I would probably be able to do that myself, but needed help determining whether data recovery was possible. Of course this is a service I was expecting to pay for, and never indicated otherwise. This is when Matt's passive aggressive attitude turned explicitly hostile and he told me verbatim "I just don't understand why you would come in here and waste my time with this". What? I come in asking for a very standard hard disk diagnostic and I am basically thrown out of the place. My experience doesn't seem to coincide with the numerous five star reviews here, so I don't know where this hostility came from, or why Matt seemed to resent my being there from the start. Perhaps he was just having a bad day and decided to take it out on a prospective customer. Either way, I have no interest in seeking Computer Love's services in the future, and would encourage others to find computer repair services elsewhere. I have no doubt Matt will reply to this negative post trying to contradict my bad experience, as he has done with other negative reviews. But I can promise you dear Yelp reader that this is exactly what went down. Computer Hell. They stole the high end processor parts of my computer and thought i wouldn't notice. Here was my Horrible Experience. And Computer Love the rest of this review lets talk about it downtown. I went to repair a laptop bought at "computer love" that started reporting it wasnt genuine windows. He was supposed to fix that. This was the used replacement to my unfixed HP DV6 which they said was fixed too, until it wasnt. This computer was their second chance. Then it happened, First he didnt fix it for 3 days the one he was supposed to fix with the genuine windows. tried to have me pay $150 for a screen for the first one he failed to fix. tried to haggle me to fork over $75 to commit to it, because my forehead said ATM. i guess my nice computer specs made you think i was just going to throw money at you. Then they confessed they spent 50 bucks on it when i mentioned i knew new-egg too. And poof like magic when i got my laptop back it suddenly has an error problem. Oh. was i supposed to not notice as it turned on and said cooling error. was that why you quickly turned it off and rushed me out before you let me see what you did. funny your invoice said it was fine before it met you and only needed a screen replacement. Good thing i keep receipts and invoices in case. I had in my computer an Intel Core I7, careful if you have high end parts in your computer. i would not trust them with your high end laptops. Very disappointed. Brought our hard drive in to recover data and after 3weeks he referred us to someone else. Had to make 2 trips to pick up my hard drive, because he conveniently forgot to give me all my parts back....anyways so the guy he referred us to basically told us that the circuit board that computer love replaced had damaged diods. When I called Matt to see if the 'new' circuit board had a warranty he gave me a hard time and explained to me that he always uses Data Pro Data Recovery and never has a problem he said "well your only out like $40 what do you expect from me?" $40 might not be a lot of money to him (was actually closer to $60) but it is to me to have a bad replacement board...so when he offered me a refund with attitude I accepted he responded with "well I have a lot of shit going on just look for it" and then hung up on me. -never got refund either- Poor customer service lack of communication Unprofessional read more

I dropped my computer while on a business trip. Needed it to work on another presentation that I would be doing three days later. I hunted online for computer repair businesses close to my home. Read the reviews and this business stood out immediately- QUICK TURNAROUND, QUALITY WORK, REASONABLE COSTS! Plus Matt lived in Brooklyn, NY, my hometown. He sized up the situation, my power button was jammed, and said they'd be able to do it. I called this place just to see if they sold desktop PCs -- a simple no, I'm sorry would have sufficed. I called the main number on their website and what was listed on Yelp, and it just rang and rang with no answer, and didn't even go to voicemail. So I called the alternative number listed on their website, the person answered "Hello" and I asked if this was Computer Love...and he was rather rude and dismissive. "I'm having some personal problems today, not sure how much longer we're going to be open. Do you have a problem?" and then I asked my question, and he just sort of mumbled and said "Call [name I couldn't understand] or something" and hung up on me. Incredibly unprofessional and rude. On Monday morning, Matt responded to the email I sent early Sunday morning, quoting me a very reasonable price for installing a new keyboard both labor and parts. I showed up on Tuesday around noon with my laptop and the new keyboard which I already owned. He installed it for the price he quoted for labor, and it was ready before noon on Thursday. My HP laptop was getting slower and glitchier, until finally I just got a black screen. I "yelped" computer repair and found Computer Love, and brought my computer in. Finding Computer Love was a bit like finding a Speakeasy during Prohibition (through BlueBird, and up the stairs, into a loft-ish room filled with vintage clothing on a couple of circular racks, and cool totem-meets-modern-day art). Matt quickly made a couple of guesses about what the problem(s) might be, had me leave it overnight for a free "diagostic." He called the next day--as promised--told me what was wrong, what he could do to fix it, and the very-reasonable price. He called the 2nd day to tell me it was done. I went and picked it up, and, just as he said, my computer is "just like new." (Also, the next day I had a question; gave Matt a ring and he helped me in a matter of seconds.) My Mac was running s-l-o-w... I brought it in to Matt. First, he did the diagnostics within 24 hours. Every other place I called told me it would be a week before they even looked at it unless I wanted to pay an expedite fee - which would move me up in the cue by a couple of days. Matt got back to me quickly and told me that his diagnostics didn't show anything definitive, so he ran a much more detailed diagnostic. He found a few little things, made a few adjustments and a few recommendations and deemed my computer good for many years. All for one diagnostic fee of $49. Every other repair shop wanted $49 for the diagnostic PLUS an hourly fee of ~$90/hour. Matt is serious about his business; I trusted him right away and my instincts weren't wrong. read more

About a month ago, a friend with remedial computer skills (that's putting it politely) needed a virus removed to restore functionality to his desktop. Seriously, he doesn't even know how to do Internet research, and has most certainly never heard of Yelp. Anyway, he asked me for a recommendation for a place near him on Capitol Hill, so of course I came here. Nineteen out of 19 five-star reviews? Suspicious at first, right? But reading through them made it clear that they really were sincere and objective, each giving unique reasons for bestowing the highest of honors. My friend was more than happy with his experience, so when I needed help with some file-saving issues, of course I headed straight to Computer Love. Turns out my problems were so specifically geeky that Matt had to go online to find out how to fix them, so it took him significantly more time than it will next time someone needs this particular kind of assistance with video files (rotating vertical to horizontal, burning to disk, repairing corrupt data). Because he spent so much more time gathering information than he did actually working on my machine, he was exceedingly generous in his price reduction. He has a great attitude, and also patiently showed me how I can do the same adjustments myself should the issues arise again. He even recommended a software program to help make things easier.
