We just canceled our service as it was impossible to have someone come out and troubleshoot when we had issues. When I called to cancel they noted the owner Lucas had to send over the form himself. I called today and spoke to Sara to get a timeline on the form and share their network is still trying to connect and sending us notifications. She seemed to get upset and note it was just her and Lucas running the company and there is nothing she could do it. I told her I understand but she started to blame the new company we went with and said they needed to take care of it. She seemed very confused and ended up hanging up on me because I asked her not to call me sweetheart. After hanging up she called back 10 min later and gave me a new name of Brandy and when I questioned if she was Sarah or brandy she said she had two names. Never acknowledged that she hung up and just noted she sent a note to IT and kept calling me honey and sweetheart. Just really bizarre behavior. The cameras - At first they were great, but then started to lag greatly. (We did upgrade the WiFi and all that) the doorbell was hit or miss sometimes it would record and other times it wouldn't and then eventually stoped working. When we would call to have someone come out they said someone would get back to us but they never would. The monthly price is low at 29.99 which is a big sell but you get what you pay for. We have our security system with Vivant and decided to switch our cameras with them and it ended up being the same monthly price but a company that has great customer service and responsive. read more

I sure do wish my review was similar to others. After talking with Lucas and having him out to our home to review different options, we were provided a quote. I had a few questions to ask before moving forward and this is where we no longer heard back from Lucas. Multiple texts, phone calls, and emails, to no avail. We are not quite sure about the what or why, however, being ghosted, or ignored, speak volumes. We may have dodged unknown problems once we made a payment for services if this is how you treat a prospective customer. I would suggest anyone complete your due diligence and talk with multiple companies and unfortunately avoid this one. read more

I approached Proper Guard after a competitively bid process with two other providers. While I am technically savvy, the prospect of moving to a security camera setup was new territory. My initial goal was to have a system that was integrated with my Cox Home Security system. After extensive conversations with Cox, there was not robust solution that met my needs. After an initial quote with Lucas at Proper Guard, followed by an onsite survey I was ready to move forward. I had additional question relating to IP vs COAX for cameras and other basic questions. In all cases Lucas was available and responsive to my inquiries. During installation Lucas was creative about 3 vs 4 camera installations, I eventually chose 4 and am very happy with the results and capabilities. The installation was done professionally and with proper care by Charles who is an eclectic man with excellent attention to detail and thoughtfulness on where to place and adjust the cameras. The flexibility of the DVR and camera software was demonstrated extensively for my wife and I (almost 2 hours) - we installed the IC Realtime software on our PCs, and also corresponding apps on our Apple iOS and Android devices. All was seamless and of high quality, accompanied by Lucas's insights. I recommend Proper Guard without reservation for any camera or DVR installation. I had Lucas come out to install my security and it was nice because he didn't try to constantly up sell me with parts and services I would never use so he could make a bigger sale. I told him what I wanted and he that's what he gave me. After the install he walked me through how to use my system and the Alarm.com app. It was nice to have someone talk to me like a human being that just bought a security system to protect his family instead of being spoken to like I just ordered a McDouble with no pickles. Two of my cameras has been out (Black on the Monitor) for 2 months and I have called and emailed the main company several times and have NOT gotten a response. I wish there was a 20 star option. I had an old security system set up in my home by the home builder 13 years ago, way before I lived here and I needed it activated quickly. I did not want a contract since I already had the equipment. I called around to the "big names" and some smaller guys and nobody wanted to touch it without a contract. I then talked with Lucas at Proper Guard, he said he'd be more than happy to come out and see if he could work with my system and if so, there was no contract and a very reasonable installation/transfer fee. My system was so old and wired completely wrong but Lucas managed to get power to it and reset the system. I wanted options on a new system too since mine was so old. He gave me options with a contract and without a contract and I decided to outright buy the new system and opt for no contract. He could still use all the motion detectors and contacts from the old system and installed a new keypad and pretty much had to rewire and revamp the old panel. Not once did he try to "sell" me on something, he was willing to work with me no matter what option I picked. Because everything on my end (the old system) was such a mess, Lucas spent an hour and half at my house just getting the old system up and running but he had another appointment and I had to get some things done too so we agreed that he could come back later to install the new equipment. He promptly showed back up at 3:30 and got right to work. As he worked he explained so many things to me about my old system so I understood what he was doing. For example, the power to the old system was in the garage in the same outlet that the garage door plugs into but the previous owners removed the transformer and just left wires hanging so he installed a new transformer. At 7:00 pm he was finished. I thought I was going to get the bad news that the installation was going to be much more since my system was such a mess and it took so long (no fault of Lucas) but nope, the price he quoted was the price I paid. As we stood in the garage upon him leaving he thought he smelled a little smoldering. I did not smell anything. He was extremely cautious and double-checked everything and then the smell went away. He still had another appointment that evening but insisted that if I had any problems to let him know. After he left I noticed the garage door was opening slowly and the only reason I was a little concerned was because the system was plugged into the same outlet as the garage and the same area that Lucas thought he smelled something. I called him and he offered to come back that same night, after his other appointment if I was okay with that. I was completely fine with him coming back in the evening and he kept apologizing, not wanting to interrupt my evening but he knew the importance of having an alarm that night. He also suggested I unplug the alarm until he returned, just to be safe. When I unplugged the transformer, it was really hot. He arrived around 8:30 and got to work again. He found that somewhere behind the walls the existing alarm wires were touching and causing it to overheat. With that in mind he did not want to use that line so he completely rewired the outlet by the panel in the house so he could use the power from there. I felt so bad for how hard he was working and kept telling him that if he needed to come back the next day that I would understand but he was bound and determined to get me up and running that night. He was done at 11:30 pm and once again, there was no extra charge or fees. Lucas kept apologizing for the time and I was feeling horrible that he had to do so much work because of MY system being such a mess. I will recommend Proper Guard and Lucas as much as I can. All other alarm companies should take note of their work ethic. This kind of customer service just doesn't exist anymore and it was the best, most refreshing experience I have ever had!!!!! Extremely pleased with the professionalism in installing the system. My home already had motion detectors and window/door alarms so they just replaced ones that weren't working and upgraded to newer unit since the one in house was approx 20yrs old. I can arm and disarm the system from my iPhone as well..super easy to use! That's when I realized how ADT has been ripping us off for years!! The next morning we cancelled our existing contract with ADT -- and we did pay a small penalty --- but totally worth it. ADT was not performing. We are now paying LESS for MORE service and features. Not only does the owner of the company call or text back when you have a question, but the call center is very responsive. The day after installation, we set off the alarm just to see how long it would take for a call. We set off the alarm, turned it off with our code 10 seconds later and the call center called 32 seconds after that. After giving my code, they welcomed us to the company and asked if we had any questions. Try that with ADT or another company like them. THIS COMPANY OFFERS PERSONAL SERVICE ON A PERSONAL LEVEL.
