Scott was thorough and punctual. I'll give him two stars for that. We did not move forward with the home he inspected. We were getting an inspection for a rehab loan, and on the day of the inspection I was hopeful, but after brushing us off, ignoring us, and dismissing our questions, I was worried about using him for a rehab consultant. It seemed to me that he didn't care/ realize that the cost of the rehab was far exceeding what we had expected, and wasn't willing to work with us to try and figure out where we could cut costs. We would send emails that clearly weren't read by Scott, and would receive somewhat passive aggressive one word responses. I would not recommend using Scott Harris for your inspection. read more

Scott inspected my home back in 2010 before I purchased it. I am now selling it and have had 3 other professionals (1 home inspector, 1 structural engineer, and 1 foundation specialist) tell me that the crawl space and footings are not up to code and have to be redone. They have all said this should have been caught on inspection back in 2010. This issue is going to cost me a minimum of $10k to fix before selling, so thanks to Scott I am now out $10k. I will be looking into legal action against him for this as it is absolutely gross neglect on his part as an inspector. *In reply to My being "unreasonable" (highly professional). Regardless of code compliance, general safety and soil erosion concerns were missed, which should be pointed out by an inspector no matter how old the structure. I asked for the three separate opinions because I trusted Scott's inspection and was sure he hadn't missed anything. This was my first home inspection ever and I was pretty nervous about the whole thing. A friend forwarded me Scott's info and I vetted him quite thoroughly. From his A+ Better Business Bureau rating to the stellar reviews, everything checked out. We met at the house and he got to work. We sat down when he was done and he went over everything. He was thorough, personable, funny and he even taught me some important facts about home maintenance and tips to keeping your property in great shape that are specific to rainy Portland. After the home inspection he has been extremely responsive in giving me advice and quality low cost referrals to contractors if I need them. Stay far, far away from this guy! Scott Harris missed significant defects that cost in excess of $16,000 to correct including a crawl space ground water issue that should have been detected by someone with a 10th of his experience. When called back to address the issue he blew smoke at us so we filed a complaint with the CCB following which he emailed stating "the board will not appreciate this", seemingly an attempt to discourage us from pursuing our rights. After two mediation's we wound up in front of a small claims judge who in response to one of the answers Scott provided asked "how long have you been doing this?" We won, have the judgement to prove it and the judge expressed remorse that the most she could award us was the original inspection fee, court cost and a "prevailing party" fee of $125.00. I expect all home inspection contracts provide inspectors this type of protection so choose carefully, $825.00 is no consolation but at least our experience is a matter of public record. After reading the reviews about Scott both on Yelp and Angie's List, we decided to hire Property Exam for the inspection of our new home. He returned my email almost immediately and when I spoke to his office, they already knew exactly who I was and what time slot I had requested (which they accommodated). He allowed my husband to go through the entire inspection with him and went over every detail of the house. He not only pointed out the few things that would need repair right away, but also gave recommendations for things that should be replaced within the next 5-15 years. The report was emailed to us within an hour of his completion of the inspection. Additionally, Scott told us that he will always be available to us and that his job ends not when we buy this house, but when we SELL this house - and that we can always call on him for help with contractors, renovations, etc. We had an inspector when we bought our first home and he did the job, and I could not tell you his name or his company unless I have the paperwork in front of me. Scott however is not someone who just does the job, he does an amazing job and obviously takes pride in his work and it certainly shows. And on top of that, my husband said he was super entertaining!
