Being from the south, where there is less city and more green, I haven't been overly impressed with NYC parks. No offense, just nothing like the miles and miles of rolling green space I'm used to at home. From what I understand, most of these places are packed during normal times, but as we are still in the middle of a pandemic, it was not very crowded. I liked Prospect Park better than Central Park. More dirt trails and trails through thickets of trees. Pretty bodies of water full of turtles and ducks, which were fun to watch. While walking through the forest on trails, there were birds and chipmunks everywhere, like a Snow White fairytale. The bridges, tunnels, and the boathouse were beautiful, and made for great photo ops. The roadways were wide and open through the whole park. Central Park has more famous statues, but I think Prospect Park has more personality. It's also more peaceful with more opportunities to interact with nature. There is also Grand Army Plaza at the main entrance, which is an impressive piece of architecture. I would choose Prospect over Central Park every time. read more

The AirBnb I stayed at in Brooklyn was maybe a short 10 minute walk to this park. I woke up early Thursday and walked down to the park to get some blood flowing before heading to the city later that day. The weather was beautiful and there was lots of people walking, jogging, biking, hanging out etc. There is a lake in the center. I don't know how many acres this park sits on but there is a nice end and a not so nice end of the park. It is a nice option to have if you can't get into the city and wander central park. read more

When describing Prospect Park to someone who's never been - ESPECIALLY if they're already fans of Central Park - I like to reference something that I read once about how Olmsted's intentions differed when designing the two spaces. Whereas Central Park is built to constantly remind you that you're in a park in the middle of a city with some pretty dramatic landscaping, Prospect Park is designed to help you forget that you're anywhere near a city at all. From the rolling long meadows to the densely forested ravines (complete with multiple flowing waterfalls tucked in the midst), it certainly hits that mark - completely obscuring the surrounding development incredibly effectively and creating a perfectly serene environment. This is my absolute favorite place to go to relax and/or get completely lost (on purpose). Certainly worth spending a day here when in Brooklyn. read more

This beautiful park is definitely five stars! During this COVID-19 pandemic, the better half had taken me here for some walks. I don't think I've explored the park in its entirety yet but we entered through the Grand Army Plaza area after partaking in a peaceful BLM protest. I'm glad that people can successfully maintain a physical distance here and still hang out with friends. The lake part was so beautiful and I like that there is enough area to lay a mat in and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I like that the park has a jogging route as well and maybe someday I'll be able to actually jog around the track instead of just walking. There is so much greenery and different paths for a lovely walk. I will definitely come back and hopefully explore the park in its entirety. read more

Prospect park is walking distance from my house, yet I can count on 1 hand how many times I've been there. I finally decided to check out smorgasburg last Sunday and I am in love with the park. It's clean, well lit and has a wide array of entrances. It was a pleasant surprise to discover Prospect Park only 3 stops down from my Airbnb on the 3 train, getting off at Grand Army Plaza. This 585 acre gem, designed by the prolific father of landscape architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted, is a bucolic oasis amongst the urban stress and grittiness of New York that makes me ready to leave after about 5 days. This park was especially picturesque in early May, with lots of spring blooms. There was a plethora of avian activity, to include ducks, geese, and swans. I was really impressed by Olmsted's design of waterfalls as well as a babbling brook. If not for the ubiquitous distant sirens, I'd think I was in some woods in the Carolinas. The only thing I would improve on is the availability of restrooms. I would recommend Prospect Park to anyone visiting Brooklyn. And if I had to live in Brooklyn, I'd be visiting this park...ALOT! read more

I'm a big fan of open spaces and I'm a frequent flier here for races at Brooklyn. Just last year I ran the Coney Island Half Marathon by the boardwalk. I signed up from 3 races this year and I currently just ran 1 out of the 3 which was the Brooklyn Ice Cream Social which ended up at The Nethermead. We ran through a little less than 2 complete loops while going up the hill once. I have to say I'm a really big fan of the Lake and its views after I finished the race. I'm sure there were tons of things to do on that easy breezy summer afternoon. The dog park is quite awesome, you get to see tons of little doggies and it's a great place to meet some new friends and pet pals. The park itself is rather clean and it looks like a great place to people watch, jog, run, bike, roller blade, and do whatever your heart desires. I look forward to running here again for the Brooklyn Marathon. read more

How can you not love this park? It's huge with plenty of space for the pups and kids to run around. In certain areas, it can be quite hilly, but this creates the perfect lounging areas to lay out your blanket. It has a decent amount of food and beverage options surrounding it and is always well kept and cared for. I love this park! 5/5 read more

Central Park is not the only large park worth visiting in New York. If you are in Brooklyn, Prospect Park should not be missed. My husband and I, along with our little girl dog came by here on a Monday late afternoon. It was nice and quiet for the most part. We walked around a small loop in the park, which was an easy walk. On our walk, we saw other dog owners walking their 4 legged little friends, runners, bikers, walkers, trees and some flowers in bloom during the cold snowy weather. And would love to see this park when the weather gets warmer. This park has multiple picnic tables and barbecues, a large lake where you can fish and go boating, volleyball courts, tennis courts, horseback riding is available, ice skating/ roller skating is also available here as well. There is also a children's center that has a carousel. Unfortunately on the day we came, part of the park was closed off because of all the snow (snow storm a few days before), but we still enjoyed ourselves and appreciated one of Brooklyn's finest. read more

I love going here! It's got a neighborhood feel and it's never too busy to just enjoy the nature, walking paths or fields. You can get your workouts done here but it's also great for people watching while having a lunch in the park for example. It's like Central Park but not as manicured, more like a neighborhood park. Highly recommend checking out the boathouse, the little waterfall near it and the path just north of the Smorgasburg location, next to the water. read more

Gorgeous! Can rival Central Park...and after a year and a half, I finally made it here to see it. Not sure if tourists or people who have moved here from out of town have even heard of it or know about it, but Prospect Park is a thing of beauty. Designed by the same architects as Central Park, you'll notice striking similarities, but Prospect Park has an old-world and historic charm all its own. The boathouse is magnificent! I heard there are waterfalls deep within the park, but on this trip I made it only about half way through on one side of the park. It's quite large. I will have to come back many times. And if you haven't seen it yet either, you need to ASAP! read more

Attended the 2017 Curfest! The space was awesome and there were plenty of trees in the surrounding areas. There were also plenty of Port-A-potties! Yay! When I was just a little guy, my family lived less than a block from Prospect Park. If you don't know, it's that enormous, beautiful oasis in the middle of Brooklyn. My earliest memories are of summer days spent there, and looking back, every single one of them was sunny. Even after we moved out of the Slope, we still came back annually for Father's Day picnics with our best friends. As a result, the park is inextricably linked to my conceptions of both summer and family. To me, the park means massive, juicy burgers and slightly burnt hot dogs, fantastic roast pork, vats of potato and macaroni salad, and tremendous bowls of fried rice. The park reminds me of playing pick-up soccer and football until it's too dark to see; of tossing a frisbee, flying a kite, and of family baseball games. It awakens memories of lying on the grass, falling asleep in the sun, and playing with dogs - both those you know and those you don't. Now that I'm older, there's a little less running around, and a little* more beer-drinking. Now I'm the one carrying the coolers instead of running beside them. But the feeling hasn't changed. I have nothing but love for Prospect Park; it's my happy place. Spend some time here, and I guarantee that soon you'll feel the same way I do. ________ *OK, a lot. read more

Beautiful park! I finally made my way over and it's really pretty, very calm, and much less crowded than Central Park. The water isn't super pretty but there's a small waterfall and a boathouse on the water which makes it quite pretty! There are big fields of grass as well to chill or play sports, and I saw people having BBQ's which looked fun. Trees and grass everywhere, and the paths are marked so you somewhat have an idea of where you're going. Definitely recommend coming to walk around! read more

Find a person who does not love nature and parks and tell him/her to kill himself/herself :) Parks especially in big cities like New York are life savers. You go there and you forget all the other matters for a while. Prospect Park is already one of my favorites. No need to go all the way to Central Park anymore. My brother has a golden retriever puppy, he likes to take him to parks on weekends, so do I join them. With the lake, swans, boats, all other possible animals and birds you may see around, park also offers an food and drink area where kids run in a circle place while families spend time to rest. You may come to read, jog, ride bicycles or whatsoever. Really nice coffee and breakfast shops around the park btw. read more

After Central Park, this is my favorite park. We live about a 20 min walk from it so I try to come here as often as possible.

I'm from nyc and it's basically a zoo half the time. Not the best park in NYC by far. On one hand you have A LOT of wannabe transplants who are completely oblivious, obnoxious and ignorant. There have been numerous gang related shootings in/surrounding the park (mostly flatbush side). The entry points during the summer are filled with herds of people blasting loud music and leaving tons of garbage everywhere and will sit in one spot for the entire day. It's a large park so as you head inward to other areas it's bit more scenic and peaceful. If you want to enjoy the bike loop (running and walking too) skip busy hours/weekends. It's becoming dangerous with the amount of people who don't know how to ride with others. You will have small kids riding down a large hill wobbling around while the parent is in front of the kid riding on their bike. Times that by 100 parents doing this. Then you have the E-bikes zooming by, roller bladers (individuals and in groups), large cycling groups going at fast speeds, small kids on scooters, mopeds, e-scooters, dogs, runners, joggers and walkers. Plus various points along the way people cross the path or think cyclists/traffic can just halt on a dime so they can cross with their kids. SMH If you want more of a workout, ride the loop the opposite way ... obviously only during off hours! Feel bad for the turtles/animals ... water has a lot of garbage. Baseball, Volley, frisby, kite, soccer, fire grills, all in harmony with the sun bathing towels like polka dots on the field, resulting in an awesome, gorgeous, huge, fantastic park right across Vanderbilt Street [Amorina, The Usual, Plan B] no need for big ice boxes, whats not to love. All of the above is just one field at the north end by the Grand Army Plaza main park entrance, specially enjoyable on days 10+ mph winds, protected by trees all around, unless you really do enjoy sand aliens crashing in your ears and poking you all over while bathing. Lake lovers head south, for the zoo east, all bbq lovers anywhere along the west side, plus ultimate biking grounds, go Brooklyn! [one thing i just can't understand why its only 4.5 stars, who's complaining about free things, my tax dollars? check out Sweden or Belgium for about 30% income tax and no, the park gates are not from gold, public bathrooms are in the works for Grand Army Plaza $0.25 for 25min] read more

Sometimes I feel that I am being too generous with my reviews. I have to start giving out more 1's and 2's. Or maybe I see more good in everything? I don't know but one thing I know for sure, is that this park definitely deserves 5 stars! YYaaawwwn. Yeah, yeah, some people might say this is "Brooklyn's Central Park" but I certainly don't see it that way. It has everything Central Park has but with its own character and connected more to nature, places to get lost and find tranquility and hear your thoughts, hear yourself think right in the middle of the 2nd biggest borough in NYC. There's a museum, a zoo, a concert stage/hall/bandshell, basically a place to see concerts! There's plenty of trails, pathways, nature, a big ass lake, and plenty to do and see in this park. You can run, jog, walk, bike ride, crawl through the parks roads or trails, are you can practice martial arts, get a tan, play some ball, have a picnic, sleep on the open green fields of this park. If you want to get away from people, just walk in the wooded areas and stay to yourself. Read a book, study, listen to music and enjoy the greenery or just enjoy the silence. A park where you can truly get some peace and quiet if you need it. You'll see bunnies, swans, turtles, chipmunks, and all sorts of other animals that you don't see often in the streets of NYC (of course). There's plenty of nature to spot here. One of the things I love is that this park never gets ridiculously packed like Central Park. There's usually a lot of people, even a ton of people on beautiful days but it never feels like you're moving around people all the time or that you'll bump into people if you're throwing the ball around. The amount of people that come to the park is just right. Everything about this park is just right. Some people might disagree but Prospect Park is a very underrated park but that's fine with me. I wouldn't want it to get over saturated with annoying tourist and people anyway. If you have lived in NYC all your life and never been here, you're a dumb, dumb doo-doo head. You OWE this park a visit. If you're a new resident to NYC and haven't visited this park, hurry up and visit before you become a dumb-dumb doo-doo head as well. If you're just visiting the city and truly want to get to know NYC and see parks that are equally impressive in their own way other than Central Park, then visit this park before you become a dumb-dumb, doo-doo head, poopy pants tourist that doesn't leave Manhattan. Pros: Much less people than Central Park but definitely enough people where it feels lively. Has everything Central Park has and more (the Botanical Garden is a must see) Great feel of nature Can definitely get your tranquility on Cons: I don't know. If you want to visit some great parks outside of Manhattan, then do yourself a favor and please visit this park. Along with Forest Park in Queens, this is my favorite park in ALL of NYC. read more

There only 2 Parks in NYC that are worth mentioning: Prospect Park & Central Park - Amazing Park for jogging, bike ridding, dog walking, relaxing day on the lawn or bench - There's always something going on here from a ton of dogs running around, concerts, fireworks, shows, running races - I've never felt unsafe while here but of course things are bound to happen if your jogging 8pm or 630am alone - Multiple means of entering the park depending on where your coming from - Never ran into any stray animals like (possums, raccoons, etc) - The lake is amazing - Recently The Park is ALWAYS crowded especially on weekends or holidays which is unfortunate because at times if your running you spend 90% of the time on a line or dogging people in groups/with strollers read more

It's the New York/Brooklyn version of San Diego's Balboa Park. Much like central park, but better, and with more to offer. Huge, sprawling and beautiful. Multiple playground areas, botanical garden, museums, their library and a zoo. Over 3 miles of lovely space to escape to when you're tired of the dirt and noise of the city. I've always loved Prospect Park, but I love it even more now that I have a dog. I run from Bedstuy to this park at least once a week with my pup for morning off-leash hours. This park is amazing! It's vast and scenic with lots to explore. My dog learned to swim at the doggie beach and he now swims there every summer. The park is miles long, even the areas dogs can go, so there is ample opportunity to get an excellent workout in. Without my pup, I also enjoy the 3.3 running or biking course. And on Saturdays, there's the farmers market. Enough said. read more

Why? Why do people in Brooklyn have such a nice park? The grass is so much greener on the other side (see crappy Flushing Meadows Corona Park). Indeed the grass is greener. And it looks like it's mowed every week. And there's no nasty trash littered everywhere. And the trees look healthier. And the bike trails are more apparent. And their Botanical Garden is so much nicer. I used to live in Brooklyn. This used to be my park. And then I moved. The Picnic House is a wonderful spot for barbeques. There's a lot of open space to fly a kite. Everything is nice and clean. And there's no dying relics from the last century (see crappy Flushing Meadows Corona Park). read more
