I visited Park since I was a child. I have so many fond memories every time I pass it. It is a very large part it's not quite as large as another state park in New York but considering the acres it does rack up to be pretty big. I have gone on a number of nature trails have spotted a lot of birds during different seasons of the year. I would have to say my favorite is the red cardinal. I never thought I would see a hawk in New York until I was lying on the grass near the boathouse and I looked up because there was a shadow passing over me. When I looked closer I realized the tale of this huge bird was red I got my binoculars out immediately and identified it as the red tail hawk. There are raccoons plenty of them as well as feral cats, you might not believe this but there has been spotting of opossums as well. I remember very well catching plenty of newts out of the water in this park. My father would take me here along with the rest of the family and we would fish on Sundays after church. I also remember falling into the water by the boat ramp. What fond memories I have. With all that great stuff said about this park it's also sad to know that the city doesn't have a control over the rat population. There has to be something that can be done. While walking just at dark I hear the grass and leaves moving as well as garbage actually moving as I look down I see the New York City rat. There's a humane way to rid these rats from this area just as cats and dogs can be fixed so they no longer reproduce there has to be some type of food that a rat can ingest to cause for the reproductive system to fail. However maintaining the health of that rat. No harm should come to any animal but there has to be some type of control with rats in New York city. This park makes for a great place to bring your family summer spring and fall. As far as walking the trails during the winter I've never done it so I can't talk on it. Prospect Park is a gem located in Brooklyn. The Bandshell, picnic grounds, the zoo, carousel, the Boathouse, the lake, and miles of bicycle lanes, are all there for everyone. I used to have my son's birthday parties there, during his childhood, and he had his nuptials there on a lovely August day. My friend and I visited the Parkside playground for a walk on a lovely March day. We enjoyed the sunshine despite the March wind. We used the restroom and were very impressed with the cleanliness. The park employees who are in charge of cleaning were there. We complimented them on doing such an amazing job of maintaining the facilities. I look forward to taking my grandchildren to Prospect Park! read more

This place is a 5-star park in every way! Huge, beautiful, and in the heart of Brooklyn. It's within 20 minutes from most of the neighborhoods in BK, but vast enough so that you can easily find your own little niche with no obvious signs of the hustle and bustle of the big city in sight. An equally awesome venue to find solitude in the woods as it is to share with family or friends BBQ in one of the many open spaces. The lake is significantly large with a good 5 miles of trails around the circumference of it. It offers beautiful scenery that includes birds and other wildlife enjoying their habitat. Also, pretty good Largemouth Bass fishery- the lake has a healthy ecosystem maintained by the park rules, Locals take pride in this park and people stay responsible to keep it clean. Love this place! I did have an accident here a few years ago on Memorial Day, where some dumb woman crashed into me on her bike as I was jogging and gave me a concussion and a lacerated scalp. But it's not the park's fault, right? It was really crowded and we both changed lanes without looking. I really want to live nearby. I love running here, I love relaxing here too. Only issue is safety after dark. I would not go here at night. read more

The reason why I have not left my apartment in Flatbush. I absolutely love this park. It has everything I need, there are trails, places to lounge, areas for sports, a lake! I mean what can't you not do here? The only downside is the amount of trash visitors leave behind. I've volunteered a few times to pick up trash. They have a great volunteer program. Brooklyn's green space certainly has a lot of it. If you love nature then this retreat from the noise will kinda/ sorta provide that (but there will still be noise). Lakes, ponds, a waterfall, grand lawns and hiking trails, its a decent park to come hiking or for a picnic. There are some things about it that to this day still annoy me: lots of litter, confusing paths that sometimes lead to dead ends and no place other than by the carousel to buy drinks in case you run out of water. On the upside, it doesn't see the tourist hordes like Central Park does. Not my favorite park but ok for a visit. Just use your phone to navigate around instead of the posted signs. read more

I got lost. Be mindful, there aren't signs in the deep woods of this park. Also, please charge your phone to 100% before you step into this park, so you can get yourself out with a GPS or something. My friends and I were really confused and randomly chose paths to take to get ourselves out (after two hours or so, we finally get ourselves out). If you're a nature lover, you should definitely come and check out the beautiful scenery and colorful leaves on the trees! I think there's also a carousel and boat rowing (just like Central park). read more

Sunny skies above and trees for shade below. Juicy hamburgers and charred hot dogs fresh off the grill. A massive tug of war battle. Many failed attempts at hand-eye coordination in a game of frisbee. Good convo with a great group of people. Cold beer from the cooler. Watermelon. Yes, I said it, damn it. Watermelon rules! The setting was the huge field behind the Picnic House, where a couple happened to be getting married. There are public bathrooms in the back of the Picnic House and an outlet in the hallway to sneak in some phone-charging time. I could go on, but what's the point. If you feel like I feel, you already know this is one of the best parks known to man. It speaks for itself. read more

Wow that's a wonderful ride just moving with the waves and enjoying the park view. It was $20 for one hour but if you go late in the afternoon its best plus the last boat goes out at 6. So come out and move those feet. Fyi : pedal slow because when you go fast the boat does not move much So slow and easy you go. read more

Seeing everyone dressed in their white Gatsby best, dining on delicious picnic food under twinkling lights, and standing 10 feet away from Ben Folds as he bravely played on while being devoured by swarming insects--what more could you ask for, for your first time? In all seriousness, Prospect Park is absolutely beautiful and offers the same "giant, urban park" comforts and attractions as Central Park without the unending hordes of tourists. read more

Prospect Park is Central Park's little brother who isn't as good looking, athletic, and has braces (but at least he gets good grades and stays out of trouble). I have countless memories of going to Prospect for family BBQs where we rented tables, tried not to hit whiffle balls and frisbess into neighboring tables, and went home with little to no energy (from eating and running around). The park is great for everyone: joggers, roller bladers, bikers, and people strolling. This park is really beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. Being as that I am from the southwest (Arizona), I found it to be sprawling and so serene. I really enjoyed the little tunnels and all the paths. Of course, the real highlight is Grand Army Plaza right in front. I can understand why my mother and her mother loved to ride bikes here. And why so many movies have been shot in the huge expanse that is used for soccer games and whatnot. If I could live in Brooklyn, this would be my #1 choice, indeed! read more

Along with Central Park, Prospect Park is one of the crown jewels of NYC parks. The park is huge, with meadows, lakes, an area for your dog to take a dip, playgrounds, a roller rink, sprinklers, a bandshell (I've seen two concerts there), and places to barbecue. The park frequently hosts events, including a recent food fair. While it can get as crowded as Central Park, Prospect Park is a serene oasis in the heart of Brooklyn. I live right across the street from this park, so if I gave it a bad review I would be getting my friendship bracelet back in gym class. Give me your homeless, your shirtless soccer players, your yuppie moms yearning to breathe free. I love that I can find space here during the day and at night (though not by myself, I'm no fool), do a morning walk around it, just ultimately chill out here. Summer concerts, bike riding, occasional holiday fireworks, dogs, barbecues, weddings, playgrounds, everything and anything can be found here. Even the loud kids can scream and run amok because guess what, this isn't a library. Though couples mackin' it too, so maybe watch your kids a little. It's the ultimate unification of our neighborhood. I mean, yeah sometimes people occasionally get mugged or murdered at night, but that happens in parks in general or at least New York. I have been living in Brooklyn for 14 years, but I only discovered Prospect Park about 3 years ago. Before that, I used to go up to Central Park to spend my sunny Sunday afternoons. Out of the two, I prefer Prospect Park much more. It doesn't feel crowded even when the meadows are covered with picnic blankets; there are plenty of hidden trails to seek refuge from the crowds. You can sun-bathe, take hikes around the park (I discover something new every time I go on a hike), drum circles, capoeira, the Audobon Center at the boathouse, the Prospect Park zoo, and the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Grand Army Plaza, the Brooklyn Public Library, and Brooklyn Museum are all right outside the park. There is such a variety of activities at my fingertips, it's no wonder I always recommend my friends and relatives visiting from out of town to check out Prospect Park. read more

Tons of green space, miles to walk, run, bike, sit and sun yourself, hit golf balls, fly kites - you name it. Parking can be a challenge, but not for true lack of spaces - mostly because it's such a good attraction. The zoo is a (separate but) fun activity unto itself, as are events at Grand Army Plaza - like food truck rallies in October, for instance. It's immense green in a concrete jungle, it's bountiful nature in residential and commercial environs, and its revitalization for the soul in a few square miles. I don't know how much of the actual park I got to see, but I feel like it was a good portion. The only reason I even knew about Prospect Park was because I was running the Brooklyn Rock n Roll 10k on my birthday. We got to the park super early on Saturday. So early, in fact, that it was dark as dark can be when we stepped out of the subway station, and I had to beat down my knee-jerk reaction, which was something along the lines of, "I'm in a park after dark - this goes against *everything* I've ever been taught in my life!" Of course, it was perfectly fine, and there were other runners that were heading in the same direction, so it provided a bit of camaraderie as we were all trying to figure out where to go to check in. I've been to Central Park to run a couple of times during my previous visits to New York, so I honestly wasn't expecting to be too impressed with Prospect Park. I mean, come on - it's Central Park that has all the lure, the mystique of having been featured in so many movies and TV shows and books and songs and...well, it's smack dab in the middle of the city, so my expectations of Prospect Park were low. It was wrong. I admit it. When we finally figured out where we had to go for runner check-in, we realized we had a bit of a walk, which was fine. We ended up walking through a small tunnel-like feature, and then over a pedestrian bridge, all before the sun came up. The bridge crossed over a river, and on one side was a beautiful building with sparkling lights and big, open windows. It was really breathtaking. Once the sun came up, and we started the run around the actual park, I realized how incredibly beautiful it was. We were able to make out some side trails in the pre-dawn hours, and we knew that there was an abundance of trees, but details were still hazy. But once that sun came up, I was entranced. It's more than just the beauty of the trees and the layout of the trails. It felt very serene there, even with 7,000 runners traipsing through the park. I think the thing I liked most was that the park felt very expansive, especially in comparison to Central Park, which tended to feel crowded when we were there. Prospect Park's large, open grassy area - where the Finish Line Village was located - was large enough to accommodate the entirety of the running community, and it never looked or felt like it was at capacity. I definitely would have liked to have spent more time exploring the park itself, and the surrounding areas. We got to see a bit on our run, but I wasn't paying much attention, focused as I was as just finishing the race. Hopefully someday we can make it back, to take it all in as tourists on a stroll, instead of tourists on a run. read more

This beautiful park is definitely five stars! During this COVID-19 pandemic, the better half had taken me here for some walks. I don't think I've explored the park in its entirety yet but we entered through the Grand Army Plaza area after partaking in a peaceful BLM protest. I'm glad that people can successfully maintain a physical distance here and still hang out with friends. The lake part was so beautiful and I like that there is enough area to lay a mat in and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I like that the park has a jogging route as well and maybe someday I'll be able to actually jog around the track instead of just walking. There is so much greenery and different paths for a lovely walk. I will definitely come back and hopefully explore the park in its entirety. read more

I love this park BUT be careful when venturing out there on your own, ladies and gentlemen! This place is beautiful and relaxing but the vast grounds are easy to get lost in without a GPS, so always trek the park with a buddy or two, bring a portable charger for your phone, comfy shoes and water! I seem to come here once a year. However yesterday was the second time I was here this summer. It is a beautiful park. Although nowhere near as massive as Central Park you can still get lost in it. Lots of greenery to see. Don't know where exactly is the location of the children's playground, but I know it was near where we were which was by the entrance of 3rd St on the West side of the park. I assume this because the volume level of noise as left increased to a higher pitch of cacophony near the direction we were coming from but I didn't see any group of children. I hear in the morning you are allowed to let your dogs roam free sans leash, which is good exercise for the dog but it seems kinds of big for some chaos not to ensue. They have the picnic house and places to barbecue to your heart's content, which is usually the reason I'm usually here once a summer. read more

If you are in Brooklyn, and you don't want to trek all the way into the city to go to Central Park, this is the park to go to. It is very similar in nature. Prospect Park is way less touristy. It has an amazing bike path with some killer hills. It has an indoor ice skating rink, along with softball fields, basketball, tennis center etc. It has some beautiful ponds too. Parking is way easier to find at this park than Central Park. On Saturdays, it has the food market bustling with fresh foods from local farms. You will also find nice restaurants to eat around the park. read more

Love this park! I'm staying very close to it and enjoy walking around. There is tons of shaded area for those hot summer days. Lots of people around with different activities. It's great for walking, jogging, running, cycling, picnics, & sports. This is a great park and doesn't have as many rules and cops as central park. Much less crowded than Central Park, and in my opinion just as beautiful (just not as large). They're are a bunch of side trails that you can meander through, or stay on the path that goes around the exterior. There are biking paths, walking & cars paths so it's nice and safe for everyone.
