This place came along way from the 80's when I was grewing up. Back then it was scary place. But now this place is like Central Park I love it. I like walking, running or just relaxing in here. This place has been a staple in my life throughout my childhood and now as an adult. Good for a picnic, a nice walk, a bicycle ride, running, barbecuing, soccer matches, ice skating in the winter or even adventurous treks. Great park, fewer tourists than CP. Not the safest park in the world, but NYC isn't the safest city in the world, so...

I've only been to Prospect Park once, so please keep that in mind when reading this review. I found the park to be an excellent park. Coming out to Park Slope from Manhattan, I appreciated the park since it was so big and really felt like you were not in the city. This place is a really nice retreat. I wouldn't say it's better than Central Park, but it certainly offers a great park to live near. It's got a lot of couples and young families as well as dogs. You feel like you're in the suburbs. It seems like a great place to get a football game going in the fall or winter as well as ultimate frisbee. Definitely great place that I would recommend to anyone. read more

This park is a rare bit of forest in the densely populated urban area. Once you're well within the park, it's easy to forget that you're still in New York City. There's actually a lake here with geese swimming along during the summer and it reminds me of the suburbs that I currently live in. read more

Prospect Park is incredible. In August, when the days are hot but there's a slight wind blowing, there's nothing more to love than heading into Prospect Park with a book and enjoying the sunshine. There are so many parts of the park to see, make sure you get out and explore them all! It's the Central Park of Brooklyn after all! If you're there in the summer you might be lucky enough to catch a movie or a concert in the evenings! read more

I've run a few races here. It's designed similar to Central Park with maybe ever more hills. There's not as much going on when you transverse the park but it's a nice little green getaway from the urban streets. read more

Maybe the best place to rum in Brooklyn. And if you prefer the outdoor and feel some nature (as much as nature and Brooklyn can go together) you must check prospect park. I didn't know you could review the park or I would have earlier. I've lived within a mile and a half of this glorious place my whole life, and I can safely say it has improved my quality of life for its entirety. It's the perfect oasis to remove yourself from the suffocating concrete of the city. Even over the last few years, as Brooklyn has become as popular as Manhattan used to be and the park sees bigger and bigger crowds, it is still possible to find quiet in this place. All the beauty of Centeral Park, with none of the fuss. It has plenty of activites and loads of space. It is aslo a great area to stroll around and people watch. Great setting to take kids, as well as groups to grill out. On all side of the park they have good eateries and watering holes, normally just one or two blocks in. read more

This is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen - 600 acres! My children grew up playing in this park. If you haven't done Prospect Park - do it soon - there's something for everyone. Lakes, waterfalls, paddle boats, fishing, A zoo, a carousel, a botanical gardens, playgrounds, picnic tables and BarBQ's, free concerts on the weekends all summer, sprinklers for the little ones when it;s hot - Ice skating when it's cold. And if you like history there are markers about many famous battles that took place in the park. You can even watch a baseball game -- or play in one! read more

LOVE THIS PARK! Its more open than Central Park and feels more authentic with the nature and big fields.

My gf and I came here for New Year's Eve and their fireworks show. The park is gorgeous and the neighborhood is classic. The fireworks show was a ten minute long display of excitement and grandeur. Very well done! read more

I love this park. I prefer it over any other park including Central Park. It's such a beautiful place, especially in the Spring and Summer. There are a lot of places to lounge, lots of places to throw the ball around or do whatever. I almost forget I'm in this cement jungle when I'm spending my time here. My favorite park for biking. Children's parks are clean and safe. Plenty to do and space for everybody. Grilling spots, picnics, paddle boats, water falls, historic monuments and battlefields. Been coming here 30 years and still find new nooks and crannies. read more

Roller skating in the middle of a beautiful park?? Yes please!! We drove all the way from Westchester County to check out the LeFrak Center roller rink and it was well worth the drive. Great facility (all clean and new), helpful staff, gorgeous setting. We found free parking on the street, the admission and skate rental was about $12/pp. A great way to spend a few hours. My 7 year old son and I can't wait to go back! read more

Most beautiful inner city park I have ever seen. The long meadow is a welcoming, comfortable place on a sunny day, great for walking on the grass, throwing a frisbee with family and friends, having a picnic, reading. Ok so qualifier right off the top: the only reason I was in this park was because me and my girlfriend got in a fight and she ran in there. We were underneath that big army arch near the subways and I said there weren't any good restaurants in the area. Obviously she disagreed (she always disagrees!) and I said, "if there's such good food around here how come you don't know the directions to any of them." She said, "I do know the directions I just have to think about them for a second because I haven't hung out in this area since I moved to the Lower East Side last winter." I said, "I can pretty much remember where all the good food spots are in Chelsea and I haven't lived there in three years." She said, "Well aren't you a smart little guy." And of course I replied, "yea, obviously smarter than you." And you can connect the dots after that! She's a brisk walker and I lost track of her in about two minutes. I didn't actually expect her to keep walking until she crossed the street, and by then I was too far behind to catch up. She wasn't picking up her phone (she hates her phone, I don't even know why she has the damn thing Ha!) and so I said, "here goes nothing," to myself and set off across the street and into the park. I'd never been before, but I can tell you wow is it big! That's the first thing I thought. Huge! Some of the trees here are 50, 60 feet tall at least, and some you can't even see the top of them! I was distracted by these mammoth trees that I almost got hit by a bike: it should be noted that bikers L O V E this place. While I was distracted by a chicken up in the tree at least five of these fitness freaks screamed at me: 'you're in the fucking bike lane jackass!'. I was embarrassed, but undeterred. I hopped, skipped, and jumped my way out of the bike lane and walked out into the first big field (I say 'first' because there are at least a half-a-dozen fields in the park. I haven't seen this many fields since I visited my cousins in Iowa.) There are people taking part in all kinds of activities out here: frisbee, kite, fleshing, play-dates, dog play, planting, outdoor cooking, BBQ, football pass, practice; basically, if you've done it outside, you can see someone doing it out here. I wanted to join in I was so excited! But I was on a mission. I was losing cell service fast, and I needed to find my girlfriend before she got too lost. I didn't want to have to call Park Rescue, but honestly it wouldn't be the first time with her. I yelled her name a few times, but to little effect. A small man wearing an Italian flag t-shirt did hear me shouting her name though and ran up to me. He said, "I saw a woman with that name walk by here about 10 minutes ago. She was saying her name over and over again. You look like you must know here." Talk about a stroke of luck! That's exactly what she does when she's upset. She gets into a huff, puts her headphones on, and starts marching around muttering her own goddamn name. He points me due east and I started jogging. The sun was fast setting over the gargantuan trees and I can see the Moon materializing in the west. Time was, as they say, of the essence. I made my way over several little hills and through a couple pumpking patches and then I saw her: she was out near this massive tree circling the trunk with her hands out like an airplane. It was dark, but I could tell it was here by her signature scowl. She had cooled off a bit and so we took a leisurely stroll through the other end of the park. Great stuff out there! There's an amazing Botanical Garden with the most gorgeous plants: ruby roses, ice myles, tattershoots, gorbers, pumpkings, lady fingers, tinselfish, and even more plants that I didn't even know the names of. I think I saw a couple chickens rooting around in there too! When we finally made it to the end of the park, I was so disappointed. I wanted to turn around and go right back in! There's probably a lot I didn't see, but I as I always say: there's always next weekend! PS: We did end up finding something to eat. Gordon's Grill & Pub on Washington Avenue. The sauces were to die for, and Gordon himself came out to ask us how we were doing. Bon Appetite Gordón! read more

Long Meadow is the perfect less-packed version of Sheep Meadow in Central Park.

Anyone giving such a beautiful place less than 5 stars is just stupid. They recently redid the skating rink which is now in use summer and winter . I believe the boat rentals got an upgrade also there was some major construction being done last I was there. read more

I love love love prospect park. I do my best to get my morning exercise in but when all else fails I make sure to at least walk my dog here before the days end. The view is amazing! There are tons of trails and it definitely helps you relax from the busy city life. I'm so happy i live within walking distance! read more

A very large park with so many things to do ! A great place to bring family and spend a day there.Its a nature park.

It's better than Central Park. The guy who designed it, designed Central Park first but imo perfected Prospect. More concave than Central Park, so that when you're in the park, you dont get the sense of the streets that surround you, giving it a less urban feel. read more

I use the park all of the time for running and cycling, but there's a ton more to do. I highly recommend taking the boat tour from the Audobon Center - great pre-dinner date in the Summer and a good way to support the park. Remember to look both ways when you cross the circle cause the cyclists come around quickly (that means me) and we don't like crashing when trying to avoid your dogs and kids on the street :) - thanks! read more

Awesome place to run, bike, chill on the ovals or people watch. I haven't seen any creepos and feel comfortable when my girlfriend runs on her own on the paved trail. Like CP, there aren't many restrooms so make use when you see them!! read more
