This review is basically for the up pricing of the skates. My boyfriend came to this place to buy a…read morepair of skates in April 2021 because he started taking lessons and this place was recommended to him. His budget was $400 for really nice skates. He saw one pair for $200 but didn't like those so kept browsing. He came upon a pair he liked and was told they were $350 (he said they didnt look worth $350 but decided to buy them anyway). Once he got home he looked them up on Amazon and found the same exact ones for $200. The manager however was very nice to him but you can buy the same exact skates online for cheaper.

Look yall. I came in here with an amount I was willing to spend in mind. If you do the same, just…read morecrumble that up and throw it away. I'm a fake snob. I like nice things. So when I decided to finally get serious about this skating thing, I visited The Rink on 87th street. Good thing is, nothing has changed. Bad thing is, nothing has changed. That being the skates. They are old and busted, so I knew if I was going to take lessons, I needed my own pair. The nice guy at The Rink told me to come check out this spot, which I did. I will say that the selection is what it is. They have several brands to choose from, and honestly, if you'r beginning, I guess you don't need anything fancy (I wanted Moxie skates). I tried on a pair that was good for beginners, with lots of padding, but they just didn't look good to me (they probably looked good to other folks though). After the salesman (Sensei) saw that I wasn't feeling the first boot, he said that the owner purchased some boots from a Canadian company called Dominion. He suggested I try those on and well, I did and liked them. Now here comes the part where I started to cry on the inside. There were two people in the store before me who had spent a pretty penny on skates and they seemed to be in the same boat as me, with little to no movement on wheels in years. In the end I spent over $300 (gasp, yall, my budget was like $70!) on skates, but I do like them and they're comfortable. I love that everything is interchangeable so if I want something new, I just have to buy whatever it is and get it changed. Ron, the guy who does all the assembly is really nice and fast. He's confident in what he does and it shows. It's nice that there are still rinks in Chicago to go to, because it is serious business!
