I have been to Protective for a few events. Most recently, for the Bham Stallions game. Entering the stadium was a breeze in part due to me being late ( on purpose). The workers are friendly enough. Thankfully the concession lines were flowing. I had a cold hotdog and a cold beer. Not sure what I spent for both items.... Overall this is a decent experience. I wish the sound system at the stadium wasn't horrible. Kuddos to the restrooms for always being clean! read more

I've attended several events here. From the Stallions UFL games, to the World Games in 2022, Protective Stadium has proven to be an awesome, state of the art facility. It is handicap accessible and has an elevator available. There are many restrooms and many places to dine from. Sometimes there are food trucks available on a certain level if you're not wanting the regular stadium food. Parking in the lots on event days costs $20, but unless you get to the venue early, it may be your best option. Also there are restaurants across in Uptown you can eat at before or after your event. Pro Tip: Don't count on the restaurants to be open if your event ends after 10:30ish. Most are closed. Eat before or drive elsewhere. read more

So. I decided to go and see the football game UAB vs ASU at the stadium and we had so much fun. First of all it was giving tail gate season with a little pre-magic city classic vibes. I enjoyed seeing the UAB band perform outside the stadium before the game. Plenty of things to do right before heading in. There are restaurants right across the street from the stadium. And it was a nice evening. It was not hot. It was in the low 70s. It was just fall meets football. Everything you would love for an evening game. This was my third time at the stadium . They have plenty of food vendors . A couple of Drink options as well. Lots of walking area. Overall a good game and a good night. read more

This was my first concert at Protective Stadium and I must say it is a great time. The walk from our hotel was minimal which was great because parking is never ideal around that area when an event is going on. Entry to our gate was easy to find. I will say the seating was tight and I ended up standing majority of the time just to have room so I wasn't on top of the person seating next to me, but I guess that's always a possibility when an event is sold out. read more

I attended a concert at this stadium and was very impressed with the organization. Accommodating 40k+ visitors can't be easy, but they managed to do it with ease. Even with long lines and traffic, everything kept moving. Once inside, we were able to get right to our seats without a hassle. The stadium is very clean and comfortable and I'm not sure there's a bad seat in the arena. Seating was comfortable and spacious. Whether attending for a football game or a concert, this stadium is top tier! read more

The visit was great. The Stadium is really nice and accommodating to everyone. I really enjoyed the Birmingham Legion game. The stadium drinks were a bit high but all in all it was a nice visit. Be prepared to walk. It's absolutely no parking. read more

My husband took me and our boys to Protective Stadium last Sunday for a soccer game. It's been years since I've been to a soccer game and I was excited to go. The boys have never been to a soccer game in person so they were excited as well. It was the first time visiting this stadium for all of us. We parked in the lot across the street from Eugene's Hot Chicken. The walk wasn't too long for us. It was a beautiful day outside so that helped. Entering the stadium via the security checkpoint was easy. With the signs and labels, we were able to find our section without hassle. This is a nice stadium. I noticed multiple food/beverage vendors as I made the walk to our seats. There was a team store as well. We definitely enjoyed the game and I'm sure we'll back here soon for another event. read more

Protective Stadium is home to the UAB Blazer football team and the annual college football Birmingham Bowl. The stadium is a welcome addition to the Uptown district, and it really shines a positive light on Birmingham. It was always frustrating to me that it took city leaders so long to agree build it. It is a significant upgrade over the old and historic Legion Field. The stadium opened in the Fall on 2021. It seats approximately 47,000 so it isn't on the grand scale of Bryant-Denny in Tuscaloosa or Jourdan-Hare down in Auburn. But, the smaller venue is perfect for UAB, Birmingham Bowl, and the Alabama state high school championships. The upper decks seemed close enough to not be called "nose-bleed". I would guess the sight lines from most all the seats are pretty decent. There is a big, beautiful Jumbotron in the south endzone. They could definitely use one on the other end. The sideline seats all have seat backs (not sure about the upper deck), and end zone seat are just bleacher seats without backs. The seat backs made a big impression on me, and it felt like the seats and rows had more room. The bathrooms were decent, and the urinals had individual dividers. I'm not shy but do prefer a little privacy. Concessions, sigh.. The good news is there are plenty of concession stands. The bad news is the service was horrible. How difficult can it be to prep and serve stadium food in a timely manner! Excuses could be made that the AU/Houston was by far the larger crowd they have had. But, they should have been prepared for this. Waiting 45 minutes to get a pre-prepared BBQ sandwich, bag of chips, and coke is ridiculous! Service in the entertainment industry will turn customers off. Traffic and parking was a bit of a nightmare. We took complementary shuttle from the Galleria in Hoover. I think shuttle option is the route to go if it's offered. Even if you pay to park in one of the designated decks, getting in and out of downtown is going to be challenging. read more

We were able to attend UAB's first game in Protective Stadium, 10/02/2021 (UAB vs. Liberty). Much excitement was in the air. Although it rained a little, it did not dampen our spirit, we had a good time! I was concerned about parking but shuttle service was offered from campus to Uptown and the process to use the shuttle was fairly simple to and from the stadium. I Iike the stadium setup as it offers plenty of concession stands with some signature items to meet your appetite and the norm of popcorn, nachos, and hot dogs. The lines were long but hey, first game. So I am sure kinks will be worked out. I look forward to attending more UAB games, concerts, and any other events this stadium will host in the future. read more

This stadium is huge just walking to your seats is about 4,000 steps so if you ever go to a game a concert wear your best walking shoes The opening ceremony to the world games was my first experience here. Make sure you check the stadium site to see what is allowed. For the world games it was no food but you could have a bottle of water. No strollers or bags bigger than a clutch. You could however have a bag that is see through. Not the best set up for toddlers or old people. I would even say handicap accessible is not too great here. Bathrooms and concessions were plenty. Concessions weren't cheap but varied. Ice cream, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, bottled drinks and lots of other stuff. Parking is just a nightmare. Better to take an Uber and walk. Seats in stadium were bleacher style. Audio was fantastic and big screens made viewing easy. Security was plenty. read more

Terrific facility. Easy to get to, easy to move in and out. Abundant nearby parking. Overall, a major, major, major upgrade to the old, tired Legion Field. Now, can we talk about the one drawback to the place? Concessions have GOT to be figured out. I've been to more MLB, NFL, and college games than I can count, but Protective currently has the distinction of easily being the worst concessions around. It is absolutely ridiculous to wait twenty, twenty-five minutes in the middle of a game to place your order. Also, as a cherry on top, I ordered two chicken finger baskets, a beer, and a water. The guy rang me up and said $32 (If I remember the price correctly). I handed him two twenties, he slid one twenty into the pocket of his shorts, then gave me back my other twenty, saying, 'Don't worry about it.' I'm sitting here thinking to myself, 'Do I report this guy to the manager? Or do I continue missing the game.' So if you are with Protective reading this review, know that concession workers are tapping the till at the middle concession stand on the visitors' side. Big time. read more

Came out for a Birmingham Legion FC (the only pro soccer team in Alabama) preseason game against Atlanta United. Wow, what a beautiful stadium. It being a preseason game, the operations and game day staff was getting used to all of the new operations as they are transitioning from a different stadium to this lovely new one. It was a pretty seamless experience! All of the staff I dealt with were really pleasant and wonderful, which generally speaking, isn't commonplace for a stadium. Everything was very clean and the cushioned seats were comfy. I didn't wait more than 5 minutes in line for a drink or food before or during half time of the game. I think there's a ton of potential at this stadium and I can't wait for the regular season game day experience! Especially Saturday night games under the lights. Prices were pretty standard for stadium fare, though I'll say the food I had was all hot and fresh. I like that the fountain drinks are refillable. The location is really awesome with room for tailgating and it's really family friendly. read more

I am here watching the Birmingham Stallions game. Honestly, I am blown away. I thought I wouldn't have any fun, but the stadium is nice, the atmosphere is awesome, and it is a good time. There are currently wars going on in Ukraine and Gaza that are taking over the news, but watching the Birmingham stallions, you forget about all of that! My one complaint is the price of beer. $15 seriously? That's as much as a ticket! Is beer still so stigmatize that I can't giddy up with my fellas? Ridiculous. It's a nice stadium otherwise, but I would suggest a buy one get one... While typing that sentence the stallions scored and the crowd went wild. Made me forget about the price I paid for my coors light. Go stallions, giddy up. 8/10, would go again. read more

I was in town visiting my parents and I wanted to stop by check out a stallions game & see the new venue also so this was a treat for myself. Parking was easy as I parked at a parking deck across the street from Uptown which is a great place for food and drinks before a game. Getting tickets was easy and as you go up the ramp you see so pretty cool murals painted on the brick outer structure and once you reach the top you stare over the field and a great view of the stadium as a whole. There wasn't a shortage of food options as there was plenty available for the masses as i got some chicken tenders and fries and beer before I sat down at my great seat. The atmosphere was really good and the staff was extremely nice no complaints at all. If I had to point out anything is that for a new stadium I would've love to see a space (brick and mortar) dedicated for team sports clothing and memorabilia since the Stallions, Legion and blazers make it their home instead of using a tent. But other than that it's a really cool place to visit. Keep growing BHM! read more

Great stadium with plenty of parking nearby. The concessions are INSANELY expensive. Two small sandwiches and 4 beers was almost $110.

It makes no sense (common) not to allow patrons from bringing an empty container in to Protective Stadium to get water. Last week at the game they have water provided but no cups to drink from. Children drinking directly from the spouts is a public health issue. I didn't get a video but I'm sure there is from security footage. I have made a complaint to ADH and will be following up. read more

First time here was a little unorganization and confusion with seating, and definitely the lines were very long waiting for food but overall I'm so proud of my city and I had a great time. The second time was a little better but the food lines were horrible, it appears all the restaurants may have been a little short staffed. I'm giving 4 stars because I expect them to keep getting better. read more
