Ah, PRO COMPUTERS. Better than chocolate, better than mac and cheese. (For computers, at any rate.) I have stopped counting how many times these geeks in computer chip armor have saved me from imminent death. Over the past 5 years or so, they have worked on half a dozen, if not more, of my computers. As a small business owner I'm by default my own IT person most of the time. My laptops, net book, and desktops are my life and livelihood and I can't live without them. When something goes wrong that is beyond my control or ability to fix, it is always a comfort to know that these guys have my back. Spilled wine on a laptop? They fixed it. Laptop crash? Fixed it, and retrvied all my personal and work data and life goes on. On more than one laptop and more than once per laptop, since about 2006. Despite my best efforts at backup I am human and don't always back up. They have always been able to recover my stuff. When I moved my office into my home in 2010 my basement flooded for the first time ever. 2 of 3 flooded computers (submerged halfway in 13" of water for six hours before discovery) resurrected from the dead by Pro Computers. They were kind enough to recycle the third one so I didn't have the burden of trying to dispose of it properly. One of my Lazarus desktops loves to get funky problems since the resurrection. It has been in for random hardware and software issues the most the past 2 years. The latest was a (I'm told rare) and very nasty virus which managed to make it's way past a firewall and antivirus. Was down for the count for a whole week. But still, fixed. Actually, I was able to restore my settings now so they are better than the last time it was in for repair. Yes, better. :) Dying video cards and non responsive keyboard adapters, clicking hard drives and days where it just didn't want to boot up, they keep bringing Lazarus back. Have I spent more money than I should on a desktop repair? Maybe. But it is still cheaper than having up upgrade my entire network from XP to a new operating system. It is true that on some occasions I have waited longer than I was told to get an update or response. They are a small shop and I imagine they get more work than they bargain for some times. It's a downside of working with a small business. But I keep that in perspective. In 2004 when my first laptop got its first problem, I took it to the Geek Squad at best buy (for lack of a better resource) and it took them TWO WEEKS with no updates. I think that was for a virus removal. For as many times as they were late in meeting a deadline, I've probably had an equal amount of times where I have been surprised by the quicker than expected turnaround time. For example, in my first few freak outs I always paid the extra fee for rush service. Until I didn't once and still had a diagnostic/proposal for repairs the same day on a non-rush order. It really just depends on what their workload is, I think. It is true that you don't get the warm and fuzzies from most of the guys there. In person as well as over the phone. That's OK with me because they get the job done. And I have dogs for whenever I need some unconditional love. It is also true that I once had less than stellar service, my computer went in for a hardware problem and came back with a virus. And maybe they could have handled the complaint and resolution process a lot better. But at the end of the day they fixed that as well, and all is forgiven. I'm still holding out for the day I can be their paid spokes-model. But in the meantime they will continue to be my go-to computer repair people and I recommend them to all without hesitation. read more

I have been using Pro Computers for four+ years for laptop and desktop repairs, memory/HD upgrades, etc. for me, my parents, and my company. I have tried several other services and all I can say is DO NOT WASTE TIME/MONEY with anyone else. These guys will diagnose and repair faster than anyone, they will not BS you to try to trick you into thinking the problem is more complicated than it is - and the cost will be reasonable to cheap - because they charge you ONLY for the time they work (plus parts/software license). In other words, they don't pad the invoice. I should know, I used to fix/upgrade PCs (don't have time to DIY any more). Like any other repair service, you need to tell these guys is you need something RUSH - which means a couple of days. If you don't tell them it's a rush, you won't get it rush - simple as that. I will give you an example of the difference between Pro Computers and another service whose name I will not mention. I had a hard drive failure in a laptop. Unnamed service wanted $800 to scrape the data off the drive (no clean room needed). Pro Computers did the EXACT same job for $200. (Yes,I know how to compare apples to apples on jobs like these.) Why was Pro Computers so much cheaper? Because they didn't charge me for "babysitting" a job which is doesn't require it. As for the people on this board who are not happy with the service because the problem was either 1) too "complicated" for Pro Computers or... 2) they didn't do you a $700 repair that would cost you at least $300 more elsewhere (yes darling, I own a Mac, too) or... 3) your machine developed mysterious problems after Pro Computers fixed it... all I can say is get real and lay blame where it belongs. If your problem is with a PC and it's more than 2 years old, don't blame Pro Computers - blame Microsoft, its built-in obsolescence, and the crap hardware in almost all wintel machines. Webcam or video player stopped working? Guess what - it's a recent Windows "update." If you want to avoid problems like that, you have a solution - quit being a cheap idiot and buy a Mac. (Oh wait - Apple also has ways to extort money from you, it's just that theirs are not as annoying and nasty as Microsoft's - though wait till your iPhone battery gives out.) Bottom line, Pro Computers is the most honest computer repair shop in the Chicago area. They don't pad their invoice, they don't use junk replacement hardware, and they know what they are doing. You would be foolish not to hire Pro Computer, they are simply the best. I needed work on expanding my C drive on my server, adding new drives and cleaning up and consolidating my drives. I has used Pro Computer a year before to install water cooling fans and to switch out processors in my 6 core computers (he did a great job and was reasonably priced). Before Florian from Pro Computer came to my office we accidentally deleted a folder wrongly named, that folder contained our accounting program with 4 years of data (all our data) for two corporations that included all payroll, tax work for the IRS, accounts payable s, receivables, inventory, everything, absolutely everything. When we went to restore from our back ups we discovered that all our back ups were no good (the people in the accounting dept never checked the back-ups even though they said they had), even our hard media cd's were not good, it was a business's worst nightmare. Pro Computer arrived and immediately went to work, with-in an hour he and another gentleman were looking through my server on site and remotely and instructed us what to do and what not to do. He worked remotely for 2 days to help restore the deleted files. His communication skills are excellent. Florian went through 7tb's of deleted info (from one of our drives) and found one the deleted company files (the 2nd company files were corrupted) which he restored the good files back onto the server. He then corrected the server issues and consolidated my server drives and then remapped all the companies computers to the new server drives. I then had Florian transfer data from one computer to another for my customer service and email program employee. No fuss, no drama, he was efficient and thorough, and he did not cost an arm and a leg. I have used other IT people in the past and was never satisfied, they took to much time and their billing was very costly for the work that they had done. From my experience of 33 years of working with computers (and we are knowledgeable) I am absolutely delighted to have found Pro Computer. My wife and I have been using Pro Computers for the last several years, and yesterday Pro Computers went wayyyy above and beyond our expectations! Yesterday - the Chicago area experienced wind gusts up to 60mph, and due to the high wind a piece of wood flew off of our neighbor's building smashing an exterior light into our gangway window. Thank God it didn't break the window, but since the light was dangling by it's (live) wires and still banging into our window I had to turn off all the power to our building to safely disconnect the light. On a side note - I wouldn't have needed to turn off all the power to the building if the electrician had properly marked the circuit breakers... Back to why I'm writing this review - when I turned the power off it also shutdown our computer and after taking care of the light issue I tried to reboot our computer and it wouldn't reboot. I tried everything that I knew how to do, but in the end I needed help so I called Pro Computers and Florian answered the phone. I explained to Florian what happened and that I needed to get the computer fixed as soon as possible because I had a business deadline that I had to meet. Florian said that they were swamped but he'd try to get someone over to take a look. Half an hour later, his technician Sergio arrived and was able to get our computer working, and I'm happy to say that I met my deadline! Again - we've worked with Pro Computers and Florian for various computer issues over the last several years, and they haven't always been able to immediately fix our issues like they did yesterday, but in general our experience with Pro Computers has been fantastic!!! I went into their store on Clark St. in Andersonville to inquire about their services regarding screen repairs. I have a laptop with a touch screen and I stepped on it (I know, I know!), cracking it to where I couldn't use it. It wasn't under warranty anymore so I either had to get it fixed, or buy a new one. These guys told me that yes, they can fix screens but were honest about the fact that touch screens take longer because the parts are harder to come by. A few weeks later, I brought it in and dropped it off for an estimate. The estimate took a few days longer than the standard time it takes for an estimate, because of the difficulty with finding the part needed for my model. When they got back to me, they emailed me the entire work order and how much it would cost. It was so easy, I could either accept or deny their offer right from my computer by clicking! (I was using my work computer at this point). They returned my computer a few weeks later as good as new. They were completely honest and straightforward from the get-go, which I totally appreciated. I didn't feel like I was talking to someone trying to scare me into spending a lot of money or who would use my lack of computer-savviness against me. I had a serious problem with my computer that several vendors simply could not fix after spending many frustrating hours and days. Most of the vendors told me that I would have to resort to a complete system restore of my operating system to fix the problem. While I have been in the Chicagoland for over 8 years I have yet to encounter any problems relating to my computer until Sunday 4/12/10. I was staying at a hotel in downtown over the weekend which for this review will remain nameless where a cleaning lady knocked my computer from the desk and placed back in its original spot without my knowledge. I learned of this Sunday evening upon returning home and faced with partial view of my laptop's LCD screen. After being on hold with Dell's 24/7 customer service for a combined 2 calls totaling 1 hr. hold time come Monday morning Googled "Dell laptop service Chicago" I came across PRO Computers online posting only to discover their pricing and turnaround time were less than half of manufacturer's pricing amongst other repair stores quotes. Bottom line dropped off my computer at 10:30 am and picked up my computer SAME DAY at 2:00 with new LCD screen. Granted I did pay the additional rush fee of $50 due to time constraints. Highly recommend. Always a good feeling when you visit a business pertaining to service and you don't feel you were taken to cleaners for the cost of repair. Dealt with Chris. read more

Best Service Ever. My Hp laptop was having power problems and after I did a search on-line, I found ProComputers. I emailed them and I received a reply back within a few hours. They gave me a fair price: $49 for diagnostic / estimate (this takes 2 business days) which will be deducted from the labor charge if I chose to have the service done with them. Of course I agreed and I dropped off my computer the next day, on Thursday. They emailed me immediately, on Friday explaining what the problem was and the estimate of how much it would cost me to fix the problem. ProComputers promised to have the problem fixed by Monday, but on Saturday I received an email informing me that the computer had been fixed and I could go and pick it up. What can I say other than BEST SERVICE EVER!!! Another thing that was impressive about their service was the automatic system they had that sent me periodical status updates of my computer. I was also able to go on line and check the status of my order. I HAVE NOT FOUND A SHOP THAT WORKS SO EFFICIENTLY AND KEEPS THE CUSTOMER INFORMED AT ALL TIMES. PROCOMPUTERS IS GREAT. read more

These guys were super great, responsive and totally reassuring when nearly half a bottle of red wine spilled onto the computer. It stopped working entirely the next day and Pro Computers was able to repair it completely (when we turned on the computer again, even the chrome/safari tabs we had open at the time of the spill remained!). The price was really great- definitely the best quote we got-- and also when we called, we talked to actual human beings who knew what they were talking about rather than an automated call center which gave us the runaround and very little answers (i.e. the apple store). Also, they totally cleaned the surface of the computer to make it look brand new again. (We had wood stain, paint and a whole lot of other gunk making the computer look not so pretty. Now it's awesome looking again too.) They were really fast too- it was back in our hands in a couple of days and they kept us updated along the way. We'll totally go back to Pro Computers if anything like that ever happens again, though I sure hope it doesn't. But, now we know where to go and hopefully you will too! :) read more

Called them the morning my screen went dark on my MacBook. Talked to Max who said to bring it in and they could let me know what was up with the computer. Stopped by later that day and just from looking at it without opening it up he had an idea of the problem. But he had to open it up to be sure - so I went home, backed everything up and dropped it off. He called shortly after to say I needed a new screen, which was one of the things he said could have been the issue. No problem he just closed it back up and let me pick it up so I could still use it at home with my monitor until the screen arrived a few days later. When it did he called me up, I dropped it off and it was ready in about an hour. These guys completely rock. So glad they moved into the neighborhood. They know what they're doing and will be honest about what needs to be done and won't charge an arm and a leg. My Dell desktop was getting slower and slower, hanging up, and generally approaching uselessness. I've dealt with PRO some years ago, and was very satisfied. So I called, and brought my computer to PRO. In about one day Andre informed me that my hard drive was failing, and suggested a 1TB SSD and a change from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The Windows 10 part scared me a bit, but Andre said that all would be well. He also said that all of my would files moved to the new drive. When I came to pickup my computer, I discovered that not only my files were moved, but also my beloved programs (some no longer available) made it into the Windows 10 environment. Before I left PRO with my very improved and updated computer, Andre without being asked, took a good deal of time to familiarize me with Windows 10. He is an excellent teacher. Oh yes, the price for all of this was very reasonable. It's two weeks since I picked up my computer, and it's still running far better than it ever did. After reading all the 5 star reviews and how they all did the repairs quickly and cheaply, I decided to choose Crescent Technology to repair my broken Macbook. The Macbook was dropped and the battery fell out, with some screws missing. I took it to them and it turns out the motherboard was damaged, along with the battery. Now, from reading the reviews here, it seems you guys had small problems compared to mine which is why they were able to fix yours. They weren't able to fix mine. Right off the bat I knew something was wrong when they gave it back and the battery wasn't even back to normal, just taped in place. The computer worked fine for an hour, then it started crashing OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I couldn't do the simplest thing on Google Chrome without crashing. Apple forum didn't help, so this is a problem with the repair. And it's just unusable now. $200 and at the end of the day, my Macbook is still broken. If your computer has a serious problem, don't get it repaired here. read more

Had an accident with my HP laptop in which about 3 of my keys came off and for the life of me I couldn't not get them back on!!! I was in a panic because being that I'm in college I'm constantly typing papers and NEED my laptop to be in full working order. After going to another computer store and having them tell me to replace my WHOLE entire keyboard I was starting to get worried again college student I cant shell out a lot of money. So after looking up other computer repair places in my area I found these guys gave them a call and talked to a helpful guy that told me to bring it in to take a look at it. I went in and now its back to tip top order :) turns out some of the brackets (or whatever its called) behind the actual keys had cracked, so he replaced them for me!!!! I'm beyond relieved that my laptop is back in order. They seem to be very knowledgeable in what they do, if i ever need anything again i will definitely go back to these guys. read more

I had cracked the screen of my Samsung Galaxy S3. I called several repair facilities in the area most of them said that they do not repair samsung phones, the ones that did repair samsung phones quoted me nearly $200. I read the positive reviews of others on Yelp and decided to give the Crescent guys a shot. The building is a bit sketchy when you first get in the door and the stairs a little steep but its worth it! George was super nice and told me it would be a couple of hours to fix my phone. There was all sorts of electronic stuff laying around. I asked George what other kinds of stuff they repair. He told me that they repair computers, phones, TVs, printers, monitors, audio equipment, and any other electronic device. A little over an hour later I got a call saying my phone was done. They only charged me $119 bucks which is far less than anyone else. These guys are lifesavers there is no need to look for any other repair company! read more

Having Pro Computers repair your computer is an experience with people high in knowsledge, integrity and pride in their work. Repairs made to my computer resulted in near factory perfection in operation. I say near because a small software issue occurred which required additional service. Rather then requiring that I return my computer to their shop (thankfully, as I recently had knee surgery and am 67 years old) , a company rep (gentleman named Chris) who may have even been an owner/manager of the company, came by my house to pick up the computer, accomplished the additional repair and then delivered it back to me. Result is, the computer works better then it ever has and I am no worse for wear & tear hauling it around. To Chris and Pro Computers, a sincere Thank You. I was a walk-in client for a recent laptop repair. I was lucky I walked into Pro Computers. I keep a lot of business information on my computer so it is kind of nerve racking to hand it over with some much information on it, and all you feel like you can do is pray your data is safe. The professional staff here put those fears to rest, replaced the failing hard drive and returned my computer to me within a couple days all data intact. I don't have a lot of technical savey with computers, so when I reloaded some software a couple days later I did not get it right and my computer would not shut down. I took it back in and they fixed the issue at no charge. Maybe that was an easy repair, but what is more important to me was the level of service I received. Professional and highly competent is how I would describe the staff, and what more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend their sevices. read more

Earlier this spring, I had major computer troubles with my mac. I took it to the mac store and they told me that my hard drive was completely destroyed, and I would have to replace it. However, I'm one of those idiots who never backed up my computer, and since I had several final papers on my computer and a lot of data for my research, I was really upset. As a hail-mary, I took it to PRO Computers to try to do data recovery. In 10 minutes after dropping off my computer, I got a call that the hard drive was completely fine, all of my data was intact, and the only issue was that the wire connecting the drive to the rest of the computer was loose. The guys at the store helped me get the repairs I needed, and they were really nice about everything. They even recognized me and my computer issues over the phone the next day! Great service. My desktop was beginning to go bad on me. I was getting blue screen errors and then eventually I had a startup error and couldn't even use it. I tried a shop before Crescent and was given unfortunate news that the hard drive was fried and I'd most likely be looking at a new computer with all my data unrecoverable. I decided before giving up, to try one more place. I am so glad I called up Crescent. I brought my computer in and Max told me he'd give me a call within an hour. An hour later I pick up the phone and hear "It's done". I was amazed. Apparently all I needed was a BIOS chip fix and the turnaround time was less than two hours from the time I walked in! So much for that first shop I tried. I will definitely be taking all my computer problems here in the future. Quick, knowledgeable, fantastic service! Not to mention a very reasonable rate! read more
