Awesome seems to be the theme of the reviews and I'd have to agree. This place is awesome. It can be good for friends, coworkers, and any type of celebration you can think of. The venue is homey, while being nice and spacious. The host, Mark, was incredible. So funny and knowledgeable. I probably learned more yesterday, than I did in 2 of my college electives. 2 of my biggest non-wine takeaways: 1. I never knew what fruit actually smelled like. 2. Truffle cheese is amazing and should be protected at all costs. The wine was great. Even more so now that I have an understanding of what I am consuming and how to fully absorb what was being offered; as well as how to pair. 5/5. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who has taste buds.

This is a fantastic wine tasting class, I would totally recommend it to everyone I know. Founded in SF, WineO recently launched in NYC and just moved to a new space that's super simplistic but cozy. There are two long tables and it seats about 20-25 people I would say? The class size is perfect for you to enjoy time with friends, while still being able to interact with the instructors and hear everything they're teaching you. Mark is super knowledgeable and personable, so you'll get none of that snobby crap here. He weaves in funny stories of how he started on this journey to becoming a sommelier, and easy ways to taste wine like a pro :). His story will honestly inspire you to chase after your dreams and to pursue a job you actually enjoy. They are very generous pourers (they tell you they pour until there is no more), so get ready to down some wine!!! In the beginning of class, we were asked to identify 10 scents that were bottled up in these teeny glass containers. To be honest, all of these smelled the same to me (weirdly, I smelled tequila every time and I hate tequila) - amazing how sommeliers can do this and pass those tests. Mark did tell us that he couldn't really do this in the beginning either, so he started to train himself while buying groceries at the supermarket. Nobody really stops to smell any of the fruits and produce, like REALLY smell while shopping for groceries, so this really helped (pro tip! haha). On the tables, they laid out wooden boards of cheeses (goat, brie, truffle, gruyere), crackers and salami. We had to ask them where they got everything because all the cheeses tasted so good, especially the sweet goat cheese! Along with that, there's a long menu that lists all the wines they're serving, plus which cheese would pair the best with them. He then proceeded to teach us to do the "Look, Smell, Taste" test for the wines, pretty good basic knowledge for whenever you want to know if you're getting good wine at a restaurant, or getting tricked into paying a fortune for a crappy wine. All of this is printed on sheets that you can take notes on to take home :). You are encouraged to join The WineOClub, their subscription service that gives you 3 bottles of premium wines for just $47, which is a really good price compared to other services that also might throw in a crappy wine...They also don't charge you monthly and allow you to personalize it, they will only deliver if you notify them that you want a delivery. Might think about doing this soon. I can already see this as being a hit for either a bridal shower or bachelorette kick-off :) I believe they're looking into WineO201, 301 (more advanced classes), so definitely don't shy away from trying this place out even if you're pretty knowledgeable about wines already. Thanks for the great class, Mark!

I came here because my friends bought me groupon tickets for my birthday and I was blown away by the experience! I went with my boyfriend, who doesn't even like wine, and even he LOVED the class. Before I went I had looked up this place on yelp and was surprised to see EVERY review as 5 stars but now I completely understand why. Mark was a FANTASTIC instructor, super engaging and funny and really made sure we were all having a great time. He taught us a lot about wine without it feeling like a lecture and made the two hours go by so fast. It was clear he was very knowledgeable about wine but was passionate and excited to share with us his knowledge but also made sure to answer any questions we've ever had about wine. I would highly recommend this to everyone!! Go by yourself, with a significant other, or big groups because I can guarantee you'll have a great time. Also the cheese was delicious so that's a huge plus.

Excellent event at WineO last night. Mark was great fun, super knowledgeable and doesn't make wine tasting a pretentious exercise. I loved the tips and hacks that he showed us in order to make us better tasters, and he gave out sheets with info so we could take them away. he also taught us some of the culture around wine, which was a nice touch. they have a great space, very informative approach and the tastings included full glasses as well as snacks which were matches for the wines we were tasting. we even got an extra wine to try! definitely recommend going with a group. they also send out wine mailers which you can choose the frequency as well as type of varietals you prefer so you can try a bunch. Very affordable as well, and flexible in terms of the way in which they choose and send you wines. thanks mark!

Came here for a Yelp event and highly recommend to anyone looking for a uniquely fun experience. As a beer preferring drinker myself, I can attest that prior experience with wine isn't necessary to enjoy the event; just a curiosity and an open mind. Mark is an awesome host and kept us laughing throughout. His backstory is also compelling - he quit his job and pursued his passion for wine by becoming a sommelier, starting a wine club niche with above average offerings (much better than two buck chuck) and better serving sizes (it'll get ya drunk!). Wines being poured are paired with a variety of cheeses laid out on the table. It included brie, goat and my personal favorite - the gloriously delicious truffle cheese. I finally understand why truffles are expensive (and totally worth it). Bam! Truffle flavor explosion in yo mouth! There was also a competitive component where we broke off into teams and had to guess characteristics related to a wine or type of fruit in a scent. The event is educational with good takeaway tidbits even for your less nuanced wine drinker. I may whip out some knowledge next time I'm drinking wine with friends and impress them!

This was an unexpectedly great experience. I've done lots of wine tasting before, but they've been NOTHING like this! I left WineO Club better educated in wine, a belly full of laughter, new friends and knowledge to impart in old friends. I'm definitely going back for level two!

Are you tired of going out with friends and ordering the same old Pinot, afraid to venture into unchartered territory? Have you struggled with choosing between 'reds, whites, or pinks', begrudgingly selecting a lemonade to mask your lack of wine knowledge? Tried other wine tastings and left more sober and confused than ever? Well, look no further because WineO Club is a well-deserving 5 star venue! Our party sampled five wines from around the globe while learning the basics of Wine tasting 101 from founder, Mark, a super personable and knowledgeable sommelier. He reviewed the Look, Taste, and Feel of each wine, reinforcing our knowledge with vino trivia and giveaways. A lovely spread of cheeses, crackers, and salami accompanied our wine selections. I don't believe my glass was ever empty, which is so unlike many of the other tastings I've been to in the city. He books all sorts of parties at a very reasonable rate. Also, WineO Club is unique in that its subscriptions are tailored to wine region, preference, and frequency of delivery! This is one NY gem you Don't want to miss. My only caveat is Pace Yourself!!

Highly recommend WineO Club to any group looking to have more than the "typical" night out! The owner/instructor Mark was absolutely entertaining and friendly, and managed to make learning about wine very engaging and not overly stuffy feeling. He also kept all of our glasses full the entire class as we swirled, sniffed, and ate our to happiness (and a bit of tipsiness). His class offered 5 wine pairings along with a mix of cheese pairings and salami. Mark gives you a range of sparkling, white, and red wines while also playing games that keep things fun. We had to do things like identify scents and do a blind tasting. Our team didn't do too tell, but we had fun regardless. I definitely feel like I left the class knowing more about wine than before, as well as created some fun memories! Mark also recommends classes for bachelorette parties, birthdays, and office events - which are a great idea!

Wine tasting can feel a little stuffy, but the Yelp event I attended here was definitely not that. The owner, Mark, gave us a great intro to the ins and outs of wine tasting while keeping things fun (and decently boozy). The wine and cheese pairings were delicious, and the space is cozy but not cramped - perfect for a group of 20 or fewer people. Trying to think of an excuse to come back here with friends or coworkers ASAP...

Oh how I miss you WineO club! So informative and so much wine to keep you asking more questions *wink wink*. I was lucky enough to attend through a yelp elite event and boy was I impressed! Mark, the founder of WineO Club is very funny and knows his stuff. He made sure we knew more than just the basics and he wasn't cheap with glasses that he kept pouring. I loved it! All my winos need to give this place a shot even the people who aren't into drinking or those that like something a little stronger. There's no losing here. The prices are great if you decide to join the club at end and it beats competitors because you get to decide what you want. Cheers to that!

I came here for the WineO 101 event on Saturday with my boyfriend and another couple. We ended getting paired with a different couple but it was nice to branch out and talk to other people at the table. We got paired up and had a little competition which was fun and informative. I liked that there was a paper that kind of explained a bunch of things and that we could write on it and take it home. Also all the cheeses the wines were paired with were great but the truffle cheese was amazing. I seriously need to go out and find it to buy. Mark was funny as well as informative about everything he explained. The pours of wine were generous and were all paired perfectly. I normally am not a red wine drinker but I actually enjoyed the ones that we tried. At the end my boyfriend and I decided to try out the wine club where you get wine delivered. Mark took time to talk to us and figure out what exactly we are looking for. I can't wait to get the first shipment and see what he choose for us! I would deff recommend this class for anyone who loves wine and is looking to have a fun time with it!

WineO was a riot! And Mark, the host/instructor, is the absolute man! I cannot recommend trying a WineO class enough for anyone that enjoys casually getting drunk, fantastic cheese (and sausage), meeting new people, and trying something new in a completely pressure-free atmosphere. My girlfriend and I knew very little about wine and typically stick to other alcohols, but the WineO 101 class with Mark was sincerely entertaining and, surprisingly, very informative. You'll definitely learn a few super easy tricks to bust out at dinners or parties on how to identify the age, ingredients, and type of wine you're drinking. What's better than getting toasty off wine, eating some amazing honey infused goat cheese, learning how to tell if a wine is Old or New World, and being entertained? Do yourself a solid and take a WineO class. Cheers!

    Alina V.

What an absolutely incredible class! Mark is fantastic, he makes the class fun and interactive and does not go light on the wine pours! You get to learn so much from taste and smells to figuring out the year, alcohol content, and place the wine originated from. You get to try both white and red wines, and each wine you have is paired with some type of cheese and mark explains how and why each of the pairings work. Note (and I'm definitely not complaining about this) there will be a lot of wine to drink so make sure to eat dinner before hand because a few pieces of cheese will not be enough. Definitely a fun time and I highly recommend to everyone!

He's had experience cultivating wine graps in Hungary, France, and California, to name a few places. He was quite informative and helpful. On top of our dessert wine, we had full glasses of 10 different types of wine. The grape variety for the wines included Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, & Malbek. The wine regions included Oregon, California, Argentina, Italy, and France. The prices of the bottles and their Wine Spectator ratings aren't revealed until after the wines are tasted, as to not provide a bias. There are five rounds of wines pairings, accompanied by a type of cheese. The wine pairings are selected to distinguish the contrasting tastes (e.g. comparison of regions, comparison of vineyard processing, or comparison of grape varieties). The class was a great introduction, and has whetted my desire to learn more about wines. If taken individually, the class would have cost $90, but Squabbie purchased the $275 four class promo package (good for 2 years and splitable amongst friends). I HIGHLY recommend this package (http://www.nycwineclass.com/wine_classes.php#256). I delayed taking this for half a year, I can't believe I waited so long! I can't wait for my next class.

This class just did not need the standards of other classes I've gone to. The reason I gave this 3-stars is because what you get for $100 is just not worth the price, plus the final product was inedible. The class consists of giving you flour and eggs to make the pasta, then roll it (which was super rushed), a "cheese tasting" (three tiny portions of cheese with some pesto) and unlimited wine (sparking white and red). You then bring the pasta home to cook it (with the instructions to use a fork if you haven't had enough time to roll your dough, which some didn't). I made the pasta when I got home and it was completely inedible as was the person's I went with. The instructor was nice and the room is beautiful, which is why I added a few stars. They're also great about making sure that your wine is filled up. Overall, I would not recommend for this price, especially when the end product was a throwaway.

I bought a class for my husband's birthday through CourseHorse and I'm so glad it brought us to this fantastic location to learn all about making macarons! I now appreciate why those tiny little cookies are so expensive! There is a lot of time and labor that goes into making them. We took a class on a Sunday afternoon with Chef Makenna, who by the way is very knowledgeable on cooking sciences, which my husband and I found fascinating as we are nerds at heart and loved learning about why everything was done the way it was and what the difference is between an Italian, French and Swiss meringue. She is also no-nonsense, which made me appreciate the class so much more. It was like taking an actual culinary course! The shop is quite small and they have 3-4 people to a table. I was slightly disappointed in this only because I had imagined my husband having a more solo hands-on experience for his birthday. It turned out to be fine and it was nice to meet new people and work together. Everything was pre-measured, the sugar was already boiling, and Chef Makenna made the meringue for us. The class is already almost three hours long, so I can understand why they do this in the interest of time. We were able to mix our ingredients, pick the color for the macarons and pipe our batter. We then worked together to make the lemon and caramel ganache filling which was fun. The strawberry filling is imported from France and was ready-to-go. I love that they sent us home with macaron templates for the baking sheet and the recipe and instructions (I highly doubt I'll make this on my own given all the tools you need and the amount of time it took).
