Went here today with my two daughters for the custom perfume bar experience. This was by far an exceptional experience creating our own perfume. We were walked through the entire process- and sampled every scent. Staff was very supportive and helped us all the perfectly crafted scent for each of us. Amazing!! I ordered the night sample perfume discovery set, in addition to the hindu honeysuckle. This perfume set is magnifique!! The shipping from Rhode Island to California was super fast! I was searching for all natural, robust, full volume scents without any toxins, and this is why I chose the night set specifically. It will be so hard for me to choose which scents to buy the bigger sizes of, there were many scents from this set that I would consider to be my "signature scent." I have to say that the staying power of all of these gorgeous scents lasted far beyond the 3-4 hour window for me. Which I'd say is pretty amazing for all natural perfume. It is so nice to not have a headache, or feel like I have temporary dementia as I have often felt in the past with commercial perfume scents, even those that claim to be "natural, and clean." I am not kidding, one of these "perfumes" was like dementia in a bottle and I suddenly was not able to function lol. So it's really nice to not experience that, and this is how perfumes should be, kept in their natural, pure form/state. In addition to that, Charna is a sweetheart, and a gem. I wasn't looking for a new fragrance but had heard about this place and came by with a friend to check it out. On our first visit we explored the whole place and learned that in addition to all natural organic perfume they also sell premium essential oil, bath salts, and teas. The shop owner was lovely to speak with and shared so many interesting facts and information about how fragrances are made and the various processes they go through before becoming perfume that we decided to make our own custom fragrance. This process took just over an hour and my friend and I had such a fun time exploring new and different scents and making instinctual decisions based on how each component complimented each other. Even though we had no idea what we were doing, we had a expert guide to help us along the way. In the end, we each had created something that was absolutely delightful and something that we are so excited to wear. We also purchased some essential oils, I picked up a new fragrance for my house and she picked up a new diffuser and some oil to use at her home. The price is what you would expect for a premium product but it's well worth the expense because of both the quality and support you receive when shopping here. I look forward to visiting again and making a new signature scent to enjoy. read more

This place is just amazing! I only wish I'd stopped in here sooner! The sign on the door forewarns you that it smells awesome, and oh, yes it does! We were really happy with the lavender bath salts we purchased here. They smelled great and worked nicely in the bath. My only warning is that these lavender bath salts do contain little bits of seed/ flower, so some of these ended up in my hair and all over the floor post-bath, but, it's a small price to pay for a relaxing and deliciously aromatic bath experience. I also have been enjoying the free samples of perfume the sales clerk tucked into our shopping bag- so amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more bath salts and fragrances from this happy place! read more

We stopped by the Providence Perfume Co on our way to The Duck and Bunny, and it was such a fabulous detour! Everything in the shop is made with natural scents- no synthetics like most perfume places. The products are lovely in their packaging, scent, and application. They offer perfumes, lip balms, body and bath, and soaps. If you are looking to go the extra mile in terms of perfume, for a very affordable $40 you can sit down with the owner and design your own perfume. Designing my perfume was a fun, relaxing, pampering and informative experience. It takes about an hour and a half and is completely worth it. Definitely a great gift for any loved one for a birthday, wedding or just to treat yourself. They also shop across the country, so being from out of town is no reason to avoid this shop! read more

I'm from NYC and decided to come to Providence for the weekend. Pretty much unplanned and unresearched... came across an "Insider Tip" on GoProvidence.com to check out Providence Perfume Co. Now I love scent, but my husband is more into it than me and swears he'd have been a perfumer in a past life, lol. Anyway, we walked in close to 4 and they close at 5. We had no idea you had to make an appt to make a custom scent (which makes sense if you think about it!). We walked in and we're greeted warmly by the owner and founder, Charna and Sarah. They reworked their schedule to accommodate my husband's wish to creat a custom scent. Sarah was so knowledgeable and passionate - it was fascinating to listen to and learn from her. My husband's scent is amazing! And then they didn't rush us at all to leave even though it was after closing and Sarah went ahead to help me find a scent. Again, I learned so much and was blown away by the uniqueness and rare combinations. I absolutely love knowing that I am now wearing a scent that not only is totally natural, but it's not common. Beautiful space, Charna and Sarah are kind, friendly and passionate about their craft and the scents are so creative and captivating. I was so impressed and had such a great experience! I don't know why it took me so long to make it to a Providence Perfume Company, seeing as I am into natural beauty, and love to collect perfumes, but I'm glad I finally made my way in. I have nothing but great things to say about Providence Perfume Company, not only because the perfumes are made with natural ingredients and smell luxurious, sophisticated, and delicious, but also because I received excellent customer service. The owner helped me out that day, and after asking me a couple of questions about my scent preferences, she walked me through the entire line of fragrance offerings, including detailed descriptions of the scents, all of the ingredients included, and how the ingredients were sourced. It's clear that a great deal of care and knowledge goes into the creation of each of their fragrances. I ended up purchasing one perfume, and then asked my husband for another for Christmas, because I had a tough time deciding. I have no doubt that I'll be back again when the seasons change and I'm craving a lighter fragrance. I feel that I received not only a quality product from Providence Perfume Company, but also an education in fragrance making. I am happy to support this wonderful local business. read more

Beautiful perfumes, fantastic customer service. I live in Alaska and have been searching for a natural perfume for years. I ordered several samples from PPC before eventually landing on Drunk on the Moon: sweet, intriguingly spicy, feminine and unusual. Along with my order of the the atomizer bottle, PPC added a free sample of another scent when I noted I was curious to try it (Summer Yuzu, also amazing). I'm so enchanted by Drunk on the Moon that I wake up excited to put it on every morning. That may sound ridiculous, but it's the first time I've found a scent that I love that doesn't overwhelm or result in headaches after a few hours. Thank you, PPC! read more

Stopped by the shop today as I was curious having read some reviews on fragrance websites. I started by smelling some of the perfumes and then decided to explore the essential oils that they sell. The owner, Charna explained a bit of the perfume process and different vehicles one can use with essential oils including jojoba oil (unscented), fractionated coconut oil or Everclear, a high alcohol content spirit. I fell in love with the rose geranium oil and chatted some more with Charna who had me smell some additional scents. I left with a sample ($5) of Ivy Tower which came in a small vial. I felt like the owner really did a great job of helping me explore my perfume preferences and make accurate suggestions. They also have a well chosen selection of soaps including one of my personal favorites, Castebel soap which lasts forever! read more

Got gift certificates for my birthday and LOVE what I came away with. I was surprised that I had enough to buy a fragrance from the store as well as create my own custom perfume oil. (I guess I thought it would be more expensive because of the natural ingredients and because the shop looks so nice!) I would recommend this shop for people looking for a less ordinary fragrance and a bit of an olfactory education. It was very interesting to learn where different ingredients come from and how they interact with each other. The owner was lovely and has a great concept for her business. Loved it! As a group I attended a perfume development party. It was extremely interesting and informative. We all had fun. The end product ( a small amount of the all natural ingredients perfume we had developed) was our too keep. I only wish the Charna, the owner had offered a discount for us on the day of the class, it might have made a difference if I purchased additional materials at that time. I had the most wonderful experience at Providence Perfume Co. today!! I wandered in because I was also intrigued by all of the reviews I had read. I walked in completely unaware of where to start or what to expect. Immediately, Charna greeted me and encouraged me to explore! I sniffed around and really loved the depth and creativity of the fragrances on the shelves. However, I was so intrigued and excited by the custom fragrance making process that I had to try it. Charna was so sweet, knowledgeable, and wonderful. She took her time to let me smell each fragrance for the different notes of my custom scent, and even helped me narrow down my choices. I ended up with a really gorgeous combination that I cannot wait to wear! I heard about Providence Perfume Co. online, and was intrigued by the raves and awards. I am a perfume addict and collector, and when I stepped through the door, my wildest dreams couldn't have prepared me for the pure euphoria of this space! I stayed so long that I think I may have smelled every last potion on display. Charna, the owner and perfumer, won Natural Perfumer of the Year in 2012, and after being in her slice of heaven, I can see why. My favorite feature on the shop is the perfume bar where you can actually make your own perfume. Charna infuses alcohol to make amazing perfume bases to start you off. When I was there, she had a Peach, a Clove/Allspice, a Raspberry, and a Vanilla, each infusing in glass spigot jars. I made a scent using the vanilla base, and added lavender, jasmine, and lily. Charna gave me expert advice as I formulated my personal scent, and it came out blissful, if I do say so myself. :) As I explored the displays, the first product that rocked my world was the hair oil. It has a delicate, gorgeous scent with a hint of orange blossom and a light green kiss. Just 3 drops transformed my hair from tired and frizzy to soft and glossy. I also bought the orange blossom floral water facial spray - I'll be going through that really quick this summer! The perfumes are exquisite. Natural perfumes are so much more complex and interesting than conventional synthetics. Each bottle contains finely tuned artistry. I loved the display with a glass dome over each bottle, where you experience the scent by lifting the dome up to your nose like a wine glass. Such a unique interactive experience! My favorites so far are Hindu Honeysuckle, Gypsy, and Rose Boheme. Hindu Honeysuckle opens with round sweet blossoms, balanced with citrusy bergamot and a base of hay-like, lightly smoky vetivert. (I don't like vetivert in general, but I have become a convert - I don't like this, I absolutely love it!) On my skin, the vetivert is the anchor over time, and it is enthralling. I think Hindu Honeysuckle may be my favorite, but it's hard to pick just one.... Gypsy has a cinnamon-like spiciness blended over a gorgeous herbal orchestra. This is just my impression - the actual notes include tonka (which is like vanilla, just less sweet), lotus, lavender, galangal (ginger) and blood orange. I am obsessed with how unique and beautiful Gypsy is on my skin. It's magical! Rose Boheme was created for a contest where 25% of the perfume had to be patchouli. Patchouli can be tricky and overwhelming, and Charna won the contest by balancing aged patchouli with several beautiful roses, saffron, and precious woods. I am super picky with patchouli, but Rose Boheme won me over with its harmony and balance. I loved the experience of visiting Providence Perfume Co. so much that I called the next day to purchase a few more treasures. I am definitely going to take a perfume class, I can't wait to go back! I feel so lucky to live so close to my new favorite place on earth!! read more

I've tried numerous samples from this company, and some were quite expensive - $7 for a tiny sample vial. I only ever could sort of tolerate ONE out of the 14 or so that I tried, and after a couple of weeks of testing these fragrances I never wore them again. Sorry, but there are much better Indie Perfume options out there, "all-natural" or not. Beware if you're thinking of purchasing a big sample pack. Nice packaging and logo though! read more

the perfume smelled like medicine. i tried to exchange my unused, untouched, unworn tiny bottle of $50 biohazard oil and they simply said 'no'. I ordered this product on-line, therefore, i was obviously unable to smell it prior to purchase. I recommended that they make a policy that is smidge more user friendly and they simply said 'no'. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and stupid archaic old school business policies. Get with the times Providence. You're giving RI a bad name. read more

I attended a basic natural perfumery class today at this location. Our whole group had a great time and learned a lot from the owner (Charna). This class would be good for a woman or man. After the class was done, I walked home with my own signature fragrance.
