Recently needed a new iPhone Mall was very easy to navigate. I usually go here for my shopping needs because it is very near where I live.

Well it's a mall and it looks like it was just dropped onto downtown Providence right on top of the river. No planning on aesthetics or consideration of downtown businesses. Just pay off the local politicians and build away and create this monstrosity. The downtown deserves better than this. It's a good thing the mall only has crappy restaurants. At least they let downtown have that advantage and they excel at great restaurants. The mall is OK if you need clothing so I give it an extra star for that. Layout is a joke. I still do not know where the entrance to the mall is. Recently I entered thru a hotel then walked thru tunnels over bridges down corridors and up elevators. It takes about 10 minutes just to find the actual stores in the mall. They have a huge parking garage so the focus is on drivers not pedestrians. I also don't like list of stores on a sign with arrows pointed up. Apparently that means stores ahead not above even though its a vertical mall several stories high. read more

Providence Place has a good variety of stores for sure. If I come here with a purpose in mind, I can feel confident that I'll be able to find what I need somewhere. There's pretty much every chain I regularly visit, from Nordstrom, Gap, and J. Crew to the Apple Store. Just be methodical about going around because of the wacked up 3 basement floors on each side. It can take a good 10 minutes to navigate the circuitous escalator setup from top to bottom if you're not careful. The food court is OK, but I wish there were 1-2 more options. I'm not a fan of Johnny Rocket's, and I've never been adventurous enough for mall sushi, so that leaves only a few place to grab a quick meal. There is a Popeye's, though, so all is forgiven. It's also cool that there's a movie theater, sizable CVS, and Dave and Buster's, all under the same roof. Overall, this is a well maintained mall. I'll certainly be back! read more

This is a quality, newer mall. It was definitely a welcomed addition to Downcity. There really is a bit for everyone here -- from JCPenney to designer stores. The anchor stores include JCPenney, Macy's, & Nordstrom. There is also a large DSW; Bed, Bath, & Beyond; and Old Navy. There are really a wide range of stores and a good selection of restaurants as well. From November through December, it is perpetually busy and a bit crazy. If you're not a fan of crowds, I would avoid paying the mall a visit during these months. The other downfall is a parking garage full of Rhode Island drivers is anyone's worst nightmare. When visiting during these busy times, I recommend heading straight to the top of the parking garage. Forget the first 3 levels! If you want to pay cash, pay before you leave the mall or use a credit card when exiting. Lastly, they keep this place quite warm. The dressing rooms are always smoldering hot. Just a heads up! Leave the jacket in the car and stop to admire the view of downtown Providence. read more

Alright, after living in Providence for so long, I guess it is time to write a little something something for the biggest mall in RI. What can I say? It's the best mall in RI, hands down with really cheap and convenient parking ($2 for 4-5 hours) and offers a lot of shops for pretty much all of your shopping needs. The D&B is great, especially on Wed when it's 50% off. The movie theatres are nice and clean, and offers a wider variety of top hits than the other showcases cinemas nearby. We have been to this mall on a couple occasions over the past year since our daughter started to look at colleges in the area and then ultimately getting accepted. We found this mall to be very nice and clean. It is huge from the size of malls that I grew up and got accustomed to over the years. It has a large selection of stores, food court and restaurants all in one location which is great on a cold, rainy, hot or snowy day. People are very friendly. Best of all there is no tax on clothing and shoes in Rhode Island. A great benefit for us since we live where they charge tax for about everything. Looking forward to going again soon. read more

Coming from a young woman that loves to shop, I had to rate this 5 stars. I came here during my visit in Providence this past weekend and I can't express enough how much I love this place. THREE stories?! just WOW, I couldn't believe how big this place is! My friend and I walked each story at least 3 times, then we decided to go see a movie. As we were approaching the end of the movie, the power had gone out, but that was out of their control. I'll definitely be back here! read more

It's a okay looking mall. I don't like when there is a charge for parking in any mall. But it's not that bad here, $2 for 5 hours! They have Nordstrom and the usual Macys. All the other shops are the usual ones from any other mall. I saw a vendor outside a store. When I got closer I saw it looks like they are selling light bulbs! After further investigation I saw it had a table lamp included with the light bulb. The lamp and 4 light bulbs for just $10. What a deal! I have a bad habit of wanting to support all these vendors in mall, so I bought two sets. I was hopping that I had not been scammed out of $20 dollars since I don't live near this mall. But they turned out just great. When it was time to leave, as I got near my car I saw security standing by my car! I asked if I had parked in a spot that I should not have? He said no, but I should have put away my GPS as someone could have broken my window and taken off with my old GPS. I was surprised by his comment, I said if they do then you are not doing your job right! Right? read more

So the season brings a ton of foot traffic and cars it literately takes hours to park and exit for two bucks a cat they be better off opening the gates to speed entry and exit. Mini-update: reduction from 2 stars back to 1 star for being panhandled indoors by a meth head on a slow going long packed escalator with no means of escape. Lovely. ------------------------ Shopping malls are a no-win situation for me since I absolutely despise shopping. But when I need clothes, it's too convenient to go to one place to get the torture over with as expeditiously as possible. That being said, Providence Place is the closest mall to me and it helps having a Pinkberry to help steel my nerves when I come here. Some things about PP that get on my nerves: ridiculous for-pay parking system that tends to break down especially during holidays when there's 10 cars in line converging and trying to get out (I've gotten stuck for over 20 minutes breathing in fumes b/c the gates won't open), disappointing store selections/merchandise, the mall rats/hawkers that lack common sense or common courtesy (note to the negligent parents: the mall isn't daycare. Mind your children). This mall has been bumped up from my former 1 star rating b/c some stores I like have started to move in and security has improved, but at the end of the day, it's still a mall. Seriously Providence Place! 20 minutes to exit that cigarette-smoke filled filthy parking lot. The whole parking structure bottle-necks to one right-hand turn lane into downtown. I will never deal with this place again (unless I have to visit the only Apple store in the region like tonight). i didn't even get into the mall itself. After driving in circles at Stateside level C of the parking lot and finding nowhere to park, I decided to leave. But first I had to pay $2.00 for nothing at the automated ticket machine. It broke. So I used the help options. At least I got change back from my $10.00. That's the only positive thing I can say about my experience. I still wasted $2.00, too much gas, and too much of my time trying to park. I am never going to Providence Place again. This time I mean it. The parking lot is incomprehensible and the poorly maintained automated services have only added to the unpleasantness of the experience. Perhaps things will improve after the holidays, but even then it is too inconvenient to bother with. My advice? if you must shop, shop on line. read more

Nice layout for a mall. Same stores you find in any mall in the country so nothing special except for the layout and surrounding area. One star for one reason. Lack of machines to pay your parking ticket. Waited 30 minutes for the one machine on a floor. Other floors have a similar situation. Then had to deal with a parking lot (not the one I parked in) to get out. Completely not thought through. I would suggest adding machine(s) to pay for parking for floors that have none and/or more machines at exits to parking garage. I will avoid Providence Place in the future. read more

I love this mall even though the make you pay to park. The garage is a nightmare. I always take a pic of where I parked. I've gotten lost near tears in the garage before. You have stores from Old Navy to Tiffany's in the mall. I guess there is a store for everyone's wallet and taste. There is your traditional food court and other sit down restaurants in the mall. You can def stay the day there as there is also a movie theater. The mall offers great views of downtown Providence. read more

Massive mall. Not too sure but I'd declare the biggest in the smallish state of Rhode Island. We entered into this cavernously large parking a garage and made our way to one of the entrances. The mall is very vertical high and long. Three levels. Overall a very wide selection of stores. The mall is anchored by Nordstom on one end, Macys on the other and JC Penney in the middle. Many shops with excellent selection for you to choose from that fits most genres will lighten the wallet if you are a shopper. As we walked by the food court there were people with trays of testers trying to get you to come in and spend your money on a plate of food. So we decided to have dinner at one of the Asian places which I will include in my next review. There are other sit down restaurants of higher quality Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's and Pizzeria Uno if you find food court food not to your liking. Come prepared for lots of walking if you want to explore the mall. A short walk to the state capital and the riverwalk once you exit the mall. read more

In my opinion this is the best mall in New England. It still has its flaws but it has a great mix of shops and restaurants.

Worth the drive. Nordie's shoe department alone is worth the drive. But there's more to the mall than Nordie's and Providence is a hip little city so go shopping and then head over to Federal Hill to Bill and Timmy's for the best pizza that this humble pizza-holic has ever had. Ever. Yeah there are a few "yuppies" if you can stand them but there is a nice mix of folks.. Providence has a big ethnic community and the mall is a diverse mix of East Side Brown University types and Cape Verdean immigrants. One love, everybody likes to shop! read more

I will go out of my way to avoid Providence Place. It's a nightmare, from the parking garage, to the hoards of unsupervised kids, and the annoying ticket system. That being said, I still find myself coming here from time to time, solely based on its proximity to where I live and some of the stores that I like (Nordstrom, J. Crew, Crate and Barrel, etc.). If I do have to come here, I try to find parking on the street first (tons of metered parking spots adjacent to the state house). I feel like the garage is half the battle. Most of the time, the parking ticket machines are not functioning properly and there's little hope of finding an attendant for help. It was not the mall that i expected. after i got in, there are many stores but the things was that its very small, like the Aeropostale, and JC Penny. The food court was pretty small. I just had to review this beast of a mall and offer tips on parking since so many have complained. Providence Place Mall, or PPMall as I have dubbed it, is an eyesore in Providence. But I do like it. It's nice on a hot summer's day or cold winter one. I can always find something to look at or play with at the mall. Everyone has made some pretty accurate statements about the contents of this mall. I love that Apple and Sephora have moved in. Tiffany's is moving in very soon. Recently, the rent increased quite a bit so some stores have moved, moved out, or are on their way out. Here are some tips for entering, parking, and exiting the garages: 1. If you are entering from the Cityside (if you're coming from Promenade St or directly getting off 95 South from 146 South), please realize that 95% of cars and SUVs will fit under the yellow "height max" bar. So, GO! Don't slow down to a crawl, please. 2. In that same entrance, realize that your car can make the curve into the garage at a speed of at least 10mph, so don't stop then turn to the left. 3. Don't follow the person in front of you when choosing a line to get a ticket. Go to the next one. 4. Find a parking space on either Levels A or B since they are closest to the exit (Level C). If you're afraid of someone injuring your car, park higher. I'd even suggest a non-mall level like 1M or 2. Level 3 is the highest and is not covered. Level 1 is one of the busiest but not as many gangstas hang there so you might be somewhat safer. Levels C, A, 1M, and 2M do not have stores. C is the bottom most level and is the one from which you exit. Have your ticket ready! 5. My favorite parking space in the whole mall is the ASS spot. It is on the 1st level of the Cityside garage across from the main doors (not the Macy's door). Look for it! 6. Stateside is the easiest garage to use. It's along Francis St. You can best reach it from West Exchange St. This garage is closest to Nordstrom, Borders, Cheesecake Factory, and Old Navy. Note that levels A, B, and C are challenging to navigate, though, so read + follow the signs. Look up for them. 7. PPMall and garages are full of unsavory-types, please be careful on Fri and Sat nights. It's true, hoodlums are looking at you for your jewelry and cash. Be aware of your surroundings esp if you're unfamiliar with the mall. Look angry, then most people will avoid you. I've been using the garages since the mall opened in 1999 so I've become a bit of a pro and completely impatient with tourists/newbies. If a black car comes whizzing by, you'll know who it is. I'm going to apologize for that ahead of time. Good luck. Oh, and if you've been in the mall for less than 3 hours, give the cashier the ticket and the one dollar at the same time. This is the only mall I've EVER been to in my whole life that charges you to park to go inside to spend your money to leave with loot. The parking garage is a joke. The only way I can ensure my car is somewhat safe is A) go first thing Monday morning with the geriatric crowd or B) not go. Every time I've gone, something has happened to my car. I've even been blocked in once. When I called security, they did nothing to help. As for the mall itself- I don't understand the hype....it's the same stores generally speaking as Warwick or Attleboro MA but for some reason they seem to charge more for the same exact products. The movie theater is the same as any other I've been to with the exception of IMAX, but again charges you more to see the same movie. The only way my friends will get me to go is if they drive. I just don't get why people go here on purpose. read more

I like this mall simply because of the variety. I don't like how confusing this place can be but the selection of stores makes it worth going to. I go here occasionally when I need something that Warwick Mall doesn't have. I hate Providence and I can't stand the parking garage but oh well. This Mall hasn't changed much since it first opened but I always manage to get lost inside somehow. This is just a good spot to shop at when you need various different things. read more

This is a pretty nice mall. They have the funniest commercials, if you live in the area you've probably seen them... It was nice and cool on burning hot summer days this summer, and had a lot of stores to browse through, as well as a food court that had a pretty good mango lassi. My best memory of this though is back in june or so when me jesse and nikoh were walking through the mall, drunk, drinking a strong drink out of a propel bottle... I don't know why, but every time I go to Providence place, I just feel like a city person. The mall is absolutely huge. When you go there, the one bad thing(its not that bad) is that if you wanna go somewhere on the other side of the building, it will take you probably twenty minutes because of foot traffic. It has all the stores that you look for at your local mall. (DAMN YOU DARTMOUTH MALL!!) It has a border's , a Sony store(idk where the hell they came up with that one) and a Newbury Comics. When you go there, before you leave your home, bring lots and lots and lots of money. And when I sat a lot of money , I mean like take out of your savings account, and take money out of your retirement fund. The place isn't expensive, but you just wanna have it because theres so much there! ( but it's the mall, you bring money for the hell of it just to feel powerful when your walking around). The food court is okay, and if you go, you should check out the Imax theaters, or Dave And Busters on the 4th floor! read more

Pretty decent mall in Providence! It's HUGE, and there are a lot of options- everything from strip-mall type stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond to specialty stores like LUSH and H&M. I visited the LUSH, which was fantastic as usual. Friendly employees, and they have such a nice view of Providence from their store, too! I also visited the Sephora and a few other stores. Overall, this mall isn't too bad. The parking situation seems to be pretty awful (pay parking), but luckily my husband and I just walked over from our hotel (within a mile's distance). I also noticed that the way they have the escalators laid out was kind of annoying, and there were some other odd things... But without the parking situation, I'd give this place 3 stars. It's got a wide variety of stores; still, the logistics of the layout make no sense for a shopper trying to get from one floor to another... The escalators are essentially set up to force you to walk by the maximum number of stores, which, obviously I get from a marketing standpoint, but as a consumer it's just a hassle. Oh, and beware... Once you pass a certain number of hours in the garage, your ticket price rockets from $2 to $10 in one foul swoop. Oh, and almost none of the parking checkout things take credit/debit cards, which makes for an extra annoying end to a day of shopping. read more
