Their new stuff isn't bad, but the prices are INSANELY high. The common price for a newly sealed vinyl is about 30 dollars. What! Piss the bed! On another note I'm going to share a very sad story. Today I had some records I was going to bring in to sell, but I knew I was coming a kinda close to closing time so I called beforehand and asked if they'd have time to go through them tonight and they said yes. I told them I had a 20 minute drive and I'd be there soon and they said that would be okay. Sublime. So I drove there with all my stuff in my car and brought it inside and they're all like "we can't take these today, bring them in next week." Hello? I just drove 20 minutes to get here because you told me it was fine! I asked if I could leave the stuff there and they said there was "nothing they could do." Shameful. Graywhale's customer service has never been great but I expected they'd try to do something to make it right. These people do not care about their customers! Go to Randy's Records instead. They have a better selection and better prices!

There is a lot of promotional stuff with these stores, with this one having to compete with several other stores in the same mall, so it is perhaps more a matter of figuring out where they fit in rather than delving too deeply into any specific focus. There was formerly a greater difference between the Orem and Provo locations as well and it looks more like they're moving towards a sort of cookie cutter dynamic, which is a shame. I imagine one day FYE might figure out what it wants to be, but it clearly is not these current days. Can be fun and interesting to wander these stores, but the experience is overall as light as the selection.

I was out celebrating Independent Bookstore Day, so I made a stop at The Printed Garden. This one is located in Union Square, a rather geriatric shopping district that appears pretty run down, but is home to several local shops. Pretty it isn't, but it must be doing something right, because there are always folks in the parking lot. And during my visit, several of them were in this store too. Anyway, back to the bookstore. It's modest in size, but had a good amount of books. It strikes me as of a more of a place where you call and talk to the owner to help track down a very specific book than a store that you might just want to browse for fun. The layout and design of the store is slightly lacking in appeal and creativity. That said, not everyone wants to browse through shelves of books or attractive displays. Sometimes you know just what you want and need someone like the folks at The Printed Garden who can locate it for you. And I'll bet they would be happy to do that.

The staff are friendly, and I've had some friendly chats with other customers as well. It is a fun place to commune over our shared interest of music. There is plenty of new and used vinyl, and they even have a decent cassette and CD selection. Bright lighting and some good background music make it easy to find things and lose track of time. However, the auctions are similar to the store, in that not much is being offered, and somehow they're bidding for things that I know might sell for 5x less. I've gone to about 4 auctions and I've seen the same record bought 4 times. I've seen this same record at the store too, and it's not like a special record haha. I'm not sure if the customer base wants to burn money? Like record collecting, of course, is a money-burning hobby, it just looks like they're burning dough for records that just ain't worth it. I do wish the selection here felt like it wasn't for people that just listen to classic rock radio all the time. What keeps me from crate digging is how unorganized everything is. Sure, separated by genre, but I'm not sure if any organization goes into these genres. It's like they just saw what had space and put incoming records in those spaces. You could find an elvis record and then 4 crates later find another (or maybe the same) Elvis record, knowing you went through different artists. Customers will be lazy and leave records in the wrong place but this is insanity.

There were only 10 Batman comics total, with just two different issues priced at .50. Everything else was $4.95 and up. When I asked about the .50 comics, I was told, "Oh, we had a bunch for the holidays." Misleading ad. Won't be back.

My wonderful collector Lisa from the Philadelphia area commissioned me to paint this huge piece…read more(40x40") depicting the place her family stayed in Paris. So many beautiful memories for their family happened right here. I enjoyed painting it so much! I finished the first painting in January 2023. I took it to Artistic Wholesale. I'd been bringing my business to them for about two years. When I expressed concern about mailing such a large piece and when I asked if they could crate it, the sales associate pointed out that the guy who did the packaging had just walked in and I could ask him. I don't recall his name. He told me something to the effect of: "we do this all the time! It will be fine." Options of archival glass, museum glass, and plexiglass were presented to me. When plexiglass was suggested, I asked how it would look, and was told that glass would look the best. This painting was created to hang above a fireplace in the collector's home. I told them where the painting would hang and asked how plexiglass would look. I was told it wouldn't look as good as glass. No one mentioned anything about risk. So, I chose glass. I again asked: will this painting be ok being shipped with the way you package it? Again I was told, "no problem! We do this all the time." Once the painting was framed, which looked fantastic, Artistic Wholesale packaged it up to what they said was "UPS standards" and shipped it out. On February 14, 2023 I received texts, videos, and photos from my collector telling me that the package was completely intact, but that the glass was shattered, the painting was cut up beyond repair, and the frame had little nicks and cuts in it rendering it unusable. I was shocked and devastated, as was my collector. She told me that the only thing protecting the painting was a layer of foam core in front and behind the painting all wrapped in plastic sheeting material with a thin layer of bubble wrap. There was NO styrofoam, packing peanuts filling the box to cushion it, or corner pieces protecting the painting. Over the last months I've tried to get Artistic Wholesale to help make this right. I wish I could get UPS to reimburse my losses, but they have told me I can't get any sort of reimbursement, because it's now past 60 days. The UPS website indicates that only the shipper (which was Artistic Wholesale) can file a claim and, to my knowledge, they never did. The first painting took me 40 hours to finish and the second one took 26 hours ....not counting all hours of communication with my collector to assure them I'll completely take care of them; buying new supplies; attempting to get the frame company to cover some of the costs for this loss, my time lost in getting more commissions (I haven't been able to take any more new commission paintings while working on this), more materials, and new shipping costs; I've also worked for hours with a lawyer to try to get the owner of Artistic Wholesale to help out. The owner responded taking zero responsibility for what happened. Here's how I'm handling this situation for my customer: I've repainted the piece and am getting ready to ship the painting to a new framer near the home of my collector. I was fortunate to find a Fort Knox-type-impenetrable tube (from the kind people at Sugar House Awning) in which to ship the new painting. I'll roll up the painting, cover it in bubble wrap, and seal it inside this tube, then ship it off with the maximum insurance. This situation makes me sad, frustrated, and very upset that after YEARS of having a great relationship with Artistic Wholesale that the owner doesn't seem to care. However, it demonstrates to me, as a small business owner and consumer, the paramount importance of excellent customer service and taking responsibility for damages and unhappy clients. I'd recommend using another framer for your framing needs. I cannot in good conscience recommend coming to Artistic Wholesale because they don't own up to their mistakes nor do they take care of their customers when mistakes are made.
