I'd been preparing for my first tattoo for over a year and a half, so I'd sifted through at least 40 different dreamcatcher designs that I saw on Google and social media before finally deciding on the inspiration piece. After explaining to him where I wanted my tattoo, Jason did a gauge of the surface area I wanted to cover and outlined a brief sketch to get a sense of the size I wanted. We scheduled the tattoo session and during the week leading up to it, he recreated the dreamcatcher with some touches of his own flair. I absolutely LOVED the final design and honestly couldn't think of anything else I wanted to change. His eye for detail is amazing. On the day of the session, he helped advise me of the exact placement of the tattoo so that when I bend forward or stretch out my arms, the circle of the dreamcatcher wouldn't turn oval or get too distorted. As a first-timer, it's something I would've never considered and I can't be more thankful for his recommendations! It is now day 6 of my recovery and I can't explain in words how much I love the final result of the tattoo. I didn't scab or bleed, and the peeling was very minimal during the recovery process. It's either my skin is really great at regenerating itself in a smooth sailing way, or Jason is just that great of an artist. Either way, this tattoo meant everything to me and I can't be any happier for such a straightforward process and for Jason's help in giving solid recommendations to make my first experience easy and healthy!

We discussed my small simple tattoo design several times just because I want it to be prefect to me. He is still extremely patient with my hesitation. We Change...Change... Again and Again, although it is a small one. Finally I decided the tattoo design. Aaron followed the disinfecting procedures and informed me everything I need to keep in mind while taking care of newly done tattoo. He's fast and painless (as painless as it will get). I couldn't judge how talented the tattoo artist is because I myself am not the one and I have no concept about "talent artist". Put it in a simple way, Aaron did me a really nice-looking piece and I think I want a big piece of Mongolian tattoo!! I assure you it's worth it getting a tattoo here. It's safe, not crowed and everything feels fantastic. Oni Tattoo definitely save yourself enough money and is the place where you want to get a superior quality tattoo from. Recent trip to NY and had a spontaneous itch to get some eye of Horus tattoos with 2 friends. The shop itself is clean and no complaints about atmosphere- we were probably the last ones there so it was pretty empty. Our artist was super sweet. BUT!!! As you can see this tattoo was done horribly and not nearly deep enough for the ink to stay in finger skin (pic is fully healed, about 2 weeks old). There were several what I assume to be employees there but they dumped myself and 2 friends with our artist. As I'm talking to her during the tattoo, I find out she's an apprentice who's been at this less than a year (no biggie) and had never tattooed a finger before (kind of a biggie!). At no point did anyone come over to mentor her or check her methods. One guy came over once and just commented that he had been doing fingers all day. 2 of us had finger tattoos and they're both worse than prison tats. For a $150 min I would expect at least SOME quality from this shop. Still find that ridiculous- even in places like Vegas minimum is never that high and this place was not located anywhere special. We tried to contact them and phone numbers were not working. Email was sent with no response. None of us signed anything at intake either. The one friend who got hers on her ankle seems to have had better luck, and the immediate finished product on the fingers looked nice initially. It's just clear that they were not done properly. Getting them fixed this weekend. Proceed with caution unless you know what artist you're booking and trust them.

I'm super serious when it comes to my body and ensuring sterile practices for things like tattoos and piercings, so I did all my research beforehand on getting pierced with a needle vs gun, best metals to use, healing processes, etc...Red Baron answered when I called, booked an appt for me the next day with Xavier. All these reviews are right; everyone here is SOOOO friendly and sociable, the vibe is amazing. They make you feel super comfortable and relaxed. I had all the time in the world to pick out my piece; yes the jewelry itself is a bit pricey but I'd read up about the healing process for cartilage piercings so I wasn't settling for anything cheap and chose a little white gold stud piece with titanium bar. When the equipment was sterilized, it was time for the procedure. Xavier took me into the room, instructed me to breathe in/out in intervals, and while I wasn't nervous when the needle entered (I have 5 tats haha, but this was my first piercing since my lobes as a baby), it definitely felt like MORE than a PINCH for me haha but I got through it. I LOVE the finished product though. Now here's hoping I get through the extensive healing process seamlessly enough. But I'd definitely come back if I decide I want more, or consider them if I want another tat!

Within 5 minutes she was ready for me. Silly me for not asking her name BUT her IG handle is @providingthewave. She asked if I was nervous and I said extremely! Lol.... she assured me it would only be a pinch and over before I knew it. She was right! I feel so silly now because I was really a nervous wreck. She rushed the small tattoo I wanted, I was in immense pain during, and then she charged me $150. For the tiniest wrist tattoo. I'm not too upset about the price, but my experience was just not welcoming or happy or special whatsoever. I feel like she just squeezed me in because she needed the extra money. Idk it didn't feel personable. I expected a little more since they had such high reviews. Oh... and my tattoo didn't turn out the best either. When I went to a different shop to get other pieces done, they explained that she should've spaced out or removed some of the lines in my tattoo, because it would merge over time since it was so small. Guess what? They were 1000000% right, all the lines in the outline of my tattoo merged and it looks like it was filled in. So I have to go fix that or just deal with it. :) Not the best experience for me.

Since the band is celebrating their 50-year anniversary (who knows how much longer they'll be touring), and my 50th birthday is approaching, I decided the time was right for a Maiden tat to be a birthday present for myself. There are plenty of "Eddie" (the group's iconic mascot featured on every album cover) tattoos out there depicting "Eddie", but finding someone with experience with the subject matter AND located someplace in the US I could get to. That was a tall order. When I stumbled upon Ruben Barahona at Graveyard NYC, I knew right away that he was THE guy. When I saw his studio, with Iron Maiden memorabilia all over the place...well that just confirmed it. I live in the Southwest, so the logistics of getting this done while I was in NY, around Ruben's busy schedule wasn't easy - but a small price to pay to schedule with a world-class artist like Ruben. I was sitting down with the Babe Ruth of tattooing, with zero knowledge of the process, and no idea where to begin. He couldn't have been more patient or understanding. I could go on and on about what an incredible artist he is, his attention to detail, or his unwavering dedication to making sure it came out just right - but what made the experience next-level was his passion for the work. He was as excited as I was! It was just a real privilege to have him do my tattoo, and I am just really, really grateful for being able to work with Ruben. Oh yeah, and he is also just an awesome guy. Just about everyone I've showed it to said it was the best tattoo they'd ever seen. If you couldn't already tell, I love my new ink so much. I can't stop looking at it. One more thing though - I didn't want to kill the vibe, so I didn't really talk about it during the session, but I've been struggling with some pretty bad depression for a while now. The experience put the kind of smile on my face I haven't had in a very long time...and I'm still grinning like an idiot 3 days later. If you couldn't tell yet, I'm recommending Ruben.
