The second time was for more expansive work which included sod removal and replacement for about 1/2 of my front yard. I had some specific but reasonable requests. The owner James/Jim agreed to them upfront. Jim said they'd have the job completed in 3 days. They came out on Thursday, June 19th and removed the sod. But not as instructed. Spoke to Jim said they'd be out the next day but it never happened. They returned again on July 2nd with the sod. Jim's "henchman," literally threw the sod down making no attempt to align with the previous piece. Many pieces of the sod were terrible. Dead and rotting. (I've personally resodded my yards on 3 occasions so know how to lay sod and to be able to discern good sod from bad.) of course the bad sod was not his fault but he initially wanted me to deal with the sod company. I told him no, that he chose the vendors and that it was his responsibility. They were to also reduce the size of landscape island which was in the shape of an hour glass to about 1/3 of its size. I told him I wanted the old pine bark raked out so the new sod would take. Again, "no problem, according to Jim. Take a guess who ended up taking it out right! After weeks of excuse after excuse on why they couldn't return with the replacement sod (he had a doctors appt and then a dentist appt and then had to travel to see his mother, the sod company was out of sod-I called to confirm and of course that was not the case) they retuned but only after threatening to take him to court. In summary a job that was suppose to take 3-4 days ended up taking 33 business days to "partially" complete as I finally gave up. Jim comes across as an amiable guy but is just a blowhard. Do not use this outfit for anything but simple irrigation work. If you do, you'll regret it.

We wanted to be home to make certain that the ground underneath was tilled or scraped and then top soil spread prior to installation of the sod. We paid for upgraded Scott ProVista St. Augustine sod from Duda & Sons. A few weeks later, after noticing that the grass was turning brown in spite of proper watering, someone from Hogan came and lifted the sod in a few locations and told us that the sod was not taking root and was brown on the underside. We have called repeatedly and asked that someone come and explain what they can do to fix the issue. They've promised that a manager would come out (never happened). Technically they have completed all of the tasks listed in their contract, sod follow-up inspection (this is when the inspector told us the sod had not rooted), irrigation management, follow-up visit by spray tech to apply preventive insecticide and nutrients to develop roots but the grass is still yellow/brown/dead after 5 weeks. We have had ample rain and watered repeatedly Additionally, the sod was installed in such a way that we are unable to open our gate and have asked that they fix that as well. Now they are refusing to take and/or return our calls.

He came out assessed we had a dead solenoid, as well as some heads that required service, and a necessary new pipe and irrigation installation. His initial estimate was on the high end but he later explained to me that it was secondary to potential increase in time (charge by hour), should they encounter tree roots, etc. Made sense to me. The eventual price was quite competitive. I had already written a check for the high end estimate, and gave it to him. When he finished the job, he actually handed it back to me telling me the bill would be ~ $100 less! He could have totally kept the extra money and I would not have known differently.
