Yay! Super friendly staff made my bike rental a memorable experience. I'd walked past the shop a couple of times (basically I was wandering around because I'd passed the street I was looking for) and when I returned to the shop later, they recognized me. While I was filling out the paperwork and such, one of the staff was already getting a bike ready for me. In anticipation of my short height, the seat was in its lowest position. However, this year, we will probably rent from Gale Force because we need 5 bikes for our group and the price differences between the two shops will pay for a lunch for the five of us. My gf and I brought our bikes in to be serviced today and everyone at the shop was great! She got a tune up for $55 (much better than what we normally pay in NYC) and I got a new wheel on my old bike. They got them done in less than a day and they were totally helpful. It was a spur of the moment decision to rent bikes and we were not disappointed. We rented two hybrid bikes. Check in was easy, price reasonable ($16 per bike) and promptly received 2 height adjusted bikes. Rode for 3-4 hours and covered the entire bike trail by the two beaches with no issues! Have been renting here for over 20 years. Always great service and I love their bikes! Never had any issue, ever. But last night, I had the unfortunate situation of having my bike seat stolen while I was parked on Commercial St. First thing this morning, I went over and told them what happened. We were pleasantly surprised from our bike rental experience with Ptown Bikes. The staff were a little inexperienced (i.e. in training) but we got through the rental process rather quickly. They give a thorough explanation of the bike's features and send you on your way. What I like most about Ptown Bikes is the quality of the bike itself! The bike we got was a Trek hybrid that seemed very lightly used. The brakes worked great, the shifting was smooth as silk and the seats were very comfortable! Had a great experience renting from these guys. They have a fast, convenient system and plenty of accessories. Good quality bikes and they resell older models. They were extremely helpful and offered lots of advice. We rented hybrid bikes which I recommend if you plan on getting out of Ptown and wanting to do the bike loop. There are some sandy areas and occasionally have some water on the paths too so townie bikes really don't cut it. Plus you need a few extra gears for the hills. I highly recommend them. read more

I though this place was really cool. Super friendly and helpful. The bikes and equipment are either relatively new or really well maintained. My only room of improvement would have been if they had bikes with child carriers. You know the ones that look like baby car seats on the back of the bike. That would have been helpful in my scenario, but other than that, this place was seemless. They really have their stuff together, from renting to return, everything seemed state of the art (scanners, computers) as opposed to forms. I love this bike shop. Very organized, friendly and professional and do not treat you like cattle. And the bikes are new, quality high performance bikes. I rented two different times for a month at a time and the rate is excellent and I can drop in for a tune up or adjustment any time. They have great baskets and good helmets. I wandered in during a very busy rental time with a bike that needed a quick repair. They directed me straight back to the service area, and the mechanic quickly assessed the situation and made a provisional repair to an aging headset (with clear notes on the limitations of that repair), properly adjusted everything, and put it all back together. It was clean, the prices for rentals didn't seem to over the top in my mind (ie. reasonable for the bikes...they all looked to be in fantastic shape). The staff were super courteous and knew their stuff. They run a bike shop, and they run it well. Bought a few things for a friends bike (said friend allowed me and the girl to stay in their cottage for a weekend, so we wanted to do something nice). Said friend had recently bought a used bike and it needed a few things. We bought some parts the friend needed after the sales guy informed us that "Buy the parts, and have them come back with their bike and we will install them for free". How great is that? This was my 10th year renting from P'town bikes and while they are an efficient business, (except for the website for reservations-which is AWFUL!) the service was really lack-luster. The kid at the counter was so rude, and not even looking at me when he took my credit card. I had asked for a different bike, as the one on line was not great...the kid looked at me blankly-'that's all we got'. The owner-(I think it was the owner) stepped in to offer a different bike. I have to say, if he hadn't done that, and I had only dealt with this surly teen-I'd have cancelled the reservation. The bike I did have was adequate-but the handles were lousy-some weird hard plastic that got slick with sweat-not a good equation when cycling those hills at Race Point and beyond. So, two stars-and realize the help at the counter can be rude. This happened last year too, but the owner or manager intervened sooner-and I know it's not an easy business...but c'mon! You're getting really good money for used bike inventory. Seriously-I would consider other companies next time-it was that bad. read more

Awesome place and great location. They have parking and bathrooms that are clean. The staff is helpful, they learn your name and greet you by name when you return. They give maps, locks for the bikes, and advice on what size bike to ride. For $25 my sister and I rode around Provincetown for 2 hours and ate lunch it was great!! read more

For renting a bike, this shop is great. It is the only bike shop in P-town that rents road bikes, and since that's what I wanted, Ptown bikes was pretty much my only choice. But it turned out to be a pretty good choice. I called before I arrived in P-town to ensure I would be able to get a bike my size. I came in with my pedals, they pulled the flat stock pedals, attached my pedals, adjusted the seat height, fitted my rental helmet, and I was ready to roll. The bike, a Trek 1000T with Shimano Sora gearing, was just fine for 40-60 mile trips down the Cape. No problem getting the seat adjusted later in the week. Turned out the wrench was also a road biker, and he gave me some very good tips for trips around the Cape. Very friendly folks in this store. read more

They have excellent service and the bikes are in excellent shape. I went to rent a bike on a recent trip and I was in & out with my bike in less than 5 minutes...so fast and easy. Returning the bike was even quicker! When I returned my bike at the end of my 3 day rental they just asked for my name outside and took the bike. They really have the check-in/check-out system streamlined so that you can go on with your day. They also give you tips/maps on bike trails and places to ride/avoid if you're interested. I'm going to switch to Ptown Bikes for my rentals. They are friendlier than the other place I used and they include a helmet (even one for my giant head!) as part of the rental. Also, they have phone numbers and address clearly marked on the bike and on the lock key. I was told they would come to pick me up if I had a problem and call them (nice to know when you're out there biking alone on the dune trails).
