We decided to come back here and try it again. It is a very open air environment. Somewhat dimmed light but there was plenty of natural light. Tony was our superb server. Very helpful and answered all our questions. The food was good but I felt alittle salty which my sister liked. So really it's based on preference. The smash burger was just okay. Fries were good. Garlic aioli had lemon in it and it overtook the garlic. The pizzas were good and you can tell they make the dough in house. Beers were good. Fantastic lunch! When our son graduated Missouri S&T the ceremony was in the morning and he selected Public House for lunch - great choice! Our son shared that the Public House owner has presented to his Entrepreneurial class, sharing insights into getting a company, getting a brewery started, including interactions with local government, etc. he and his friends have frequented and this was the first chance for us family to visit. Mutiny provided exceptional service! My friends and i were excited to visit the newly renovated rolla location, and were unfortunately disappointed. For starters, we were sat in the tap room area on wooden benches, which are not comfortable for an hour long meal. I even saw another couple ask for folding chairs instead of the bench. Next, our service was not good, with our waitress not even telling us her name, and not being avalible/ checking on our table. 3/4 of our meals came out wrong in some way. Our favorite place to stop on trips to Illinois. Public House Brewery has a cool vibe and a great selection of craft beers and St. James wines. If you prefer a mixed drink, there is a selection to choose from. If you're hungry, the menu has a selection of unique sandwiches, salads, and small bites. My husband had the Italian sandwich prepared as a panini. You could also have it deli-style. My friend and I had the charcuterie board that we enjoyed. For drinks, my husband loved the Strawberry Ale and I had the St. James Velvet Red. It was as so good that I bought a bottle. My friend had a Moscow Mule. As my companion and I were looking for a restaurant we decided on pizza at Public House Brewing. Stating "who can mess up pizza"? Lordy, we found out. $18 for a mess of a supreme pizza. I have never had such a tasteless pizza. It had a minuscule amount of sausage on it that was flavorless as was the pepperoni. It was simply the worst pizza I have had. Our server was friendly and the restaurant was clean. I am usually on the hot side but could not wait to get outside to warm up. Our average ages are late 50s to early 60s. After three beers served to us and we drank them rather fast. The waitress came over and said that she was cutting us off. Because she felt that we drink our beer to fast and then said at our age , we might not be able to handle beer. Lmbo since we all have had our first beer before her parents were born. Plus I think some of establishments, forget who's really keeping local businesses alive. It's not the kids they don't make the money that we do. Needless to say, we were gonna rent this place out to have them. Cater our huge combat reunion. Instead, they practice ageisms, so, we can't give them any business or support. We moved our rally to Branson. I had so many people's show up, I don't think this place could handle it anyway. My primary complaint is that Public House charges some steep rates for it. $6 (if I remember correctly) for a pretzel and some cheese? $9 for a basic Italian salad? And you're looking at minimum-$11 burgers for mediocre serving size. Point is, drinks will already be more expensive in a restaurant, and Public House's food selection is pricey for what you get, so it's very easy to rack up a significant bill without realizing it. read more

We've passed this little place many times and finally decided to give it a try last Sunday. The 3 stars are because we waited over an hour for 3 burgers, nothing special, just 3 burgers. They were good, so was the beer. They had several servers, but we had to stand up and wave down a different server to get a refill, our original server never came back to check on us. We had to ask for someone to go find her for our check. It wasn't busy late on a Sunday afternoon, only 3 other tables. Everyone seemed to be concerned with whatever was happening on the outside patio area. We will be by there again, probably several more times, we might stop again. But we'll likely order something other than a burger and if it takes over an hour to get our food, well...we will already be out the door and gone. read more

I love this place!!!!! Not only do they provide plenty of seating room, yard games, water features, and an all around amazing patio... but the FOOD is fantastic and the beer is just as great! I didn't stray from the strawberry beer which I am guessing is seasonal. It was a wheat beer that wasn't too heavy but was oh-so-delicious! My meal mates enjoyed the cider and the cream ale. Both looked tasty. We nibbled on the kiddos mac and cheese which was creamy and topped with Franks Red Hot (just how I like it), and we each got a burger. I was traveling from out of town and the brewery said they were out of all of their special sauces that usually come on the burger. My friends said I am missing out and were disappointed I didn't get the full experience, however, I thought it was pretty tasty slathered with ketchup and mustard. The pretzel bites are also a must and are served with yummy fancy mustard and some sort of cheese sauce. I look forward to coming back here during my next visit! We love literally everything about this brewery. They have a respectable selection for all tastes. I happened to love their hefeweizen and the 66 but the cider was great too- I don't normally like cider. Apparently their Session IPA is really great. They offer two types of growlers. One is a double insulated one with a very cool logo and attached top. The food was surprisingly spot on. They recently started offering all their sandwiches as paninis. Yum. Warm and fresh. Somehow I've skipped writing a review about Public House. I'm here to tell you about all the painful hours of hangover that public house has caused me in my life because it is just so damn good. I would say PH has single handedly (Or multiple hands if you know those frisky owners) saved my lively hood when I visit Rolla. There isn't much going on in the town, but if there is this is where its at. Good music and good beer, and the people are acceptable as well! Now, if you like a peppered, dry hopped, lager-ale that's been fermented for 45.3134 days at 40 degrees C while monkeys fanned it with banana leaves, this is not where you will get it. While the staff may be kind enough to fan you with Banana leaves the beer is focused around keeping it simple. Public House is indeed a brewery, but the beer plays somewhat of a small role in the success of this place. You see, the beer is a catalyst to keep you engaged in conversation, thus the name "Session Beer". You'll get a beer that's good, you can drink a bunch and not get tired of it. But at the same time your beverage will be big and wonderful enough to keep you coming back for that one go-to beer (for me its probably the mild). If you still don't understand, let me put it in terms of tacos. You can be blown away by a duck tongue taco with fancy cheese and pickled onions on top but you will always want that taco you have learned to love. Sometimes that taco just has chicken, cheese and lettuce and comes out of a shady cart from a guy who you can't understand but you just know you give him a dollar and he turns it into a taco with his magical cart. And when the night comes to a close you can get a growler to go! Please, drink and ride. Don't drink and drive. Food you say? They've got that too. Local cheese and meat trays that are ballin'. Even though Rolla is a small town I frequently see a lack of businesses teaming up with other as well as public house does. They know they've got their own beer but they love to bring in other places too. They work with local wineries, chefs and restaurants to bring in food on the weekends. Also, if you've got a thing for wood this place is wonderfully decorated and designed with tons of hard wood and lovely grained surfaces for you to oodle your eyes over. check it out and caress the wood. Rent the balcony for your own crew, or catch an event. Whatever you do, just drink the damn beer and have a good time! If you still aren't convinced let me tell you this. I lived in Rolla for several years and Public House was my go to place. Once I graduated and moved to Kansas City I figured there would be tons of options! 2 years in an I'm still looking for my go to brewery that I enjoy as much as Public House, and trust me I've been working hard and long at finding one. read more

While I was visiting my always lovely in-laws in Rolla, we decided to check out the town's (only) brew pub. We decided to check it out after a rousing dinner. While I am not a beer expert, I have been known to enjoy a brew or two in my time and I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw here. First off, the decor is pretty impressive. You can tell that the owners really want to make sure that this place looks good. It reminds me of a Bridge in St. Louis except the wood is a bit darker. Also the layout is pretty neat as well. However we were there for the board games and beer. I ended up with a sampler which was served with paired with chocolate. I suck at pairing beers with food so this was pretty neat. I really enjoyed the Mild and Hefeweizen selections. Next time I visit Rolla, I'll have to stop by there with a growler because it was worth it. I really didn't get any food but from what I could taste, the beer was pretty good. Nothing too overpowering, just good beer and a relaxing atmosphere. Next time I'll have to get some food but from what I saw, it warrants 4 stars. Definitely a place to visit if you're in Rolla! read more
