Bacon Jam Burger & Onion Rings
    Andrea S.

We were heading down to Bass River Resort and wanted a place to stop, have a drink and get a bite to eat so I got on my Yelp app and this popped up. Beer and burgers...we were in! OMG! The burgers were fantastic and those onion rings! I ordered the Western and my husband had the Bacon Jam burger. These burgers were huge and so yummy. The patty is more like a smash burger with delicious crispy edges and generous toppings. Now, let me talk about those onion rings. Perfection!! With each bite you get the batter and onion unlike many other places where you bite in and the whole onion string comes out and you're left with just batter. My husband ordered a West Coast IPA and wasn't impressed. He's a huge beer snob though so he's a tough critic. This is a really cool spot and looks like it would be fun on a weekend evening especially during spring and fall on the impressive patio. The service was a bit lacking but overall a great experience. Glad we stopped!

Traveling and stayed in Sullivan, MO. So excited to find Muddy Banks Brewery one mile from our stay. Great burgers-the beef was so tasty, motor running the mill pre-formed patty. I had the Classic; hubby had the Western. And the fries? The. BEST! Fried in beef tallow, crispy and dee-lish! Hubby enjoyed his Before the Storm brew. Locally owned, read their story on the restaurant website. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, informative, and resourceful. Unexpected was the live music. Great gal opened (unfortunately I did not get her name). Headlining band was The Feverfew. @PaigeFairbairnMusic. They write all their own songs. If you're in or around Sullivan, put this restaurant on your meal planner.

They have a huge parking lot with plenty of parking spaces. When you walk in the hostess will get you seated. We had a large group of 16 that they could accommodate inside. The patio was full and there is love music! Our waitressed handled our entire group really well going from person to person taking our drink and/or food orders if we were ready. I ordered the Hoosier Mama, a vodka based cocktail mixed with hibiscus tea and a Bacon Jam burger. We were fresh off a float trip so when I heard someone in our group say Hoosier Mama I didn't think anything of it and didn't respond initially. They were trying to get my drink to me lol! It was light and summery and more on the tatted versus sweet side. Our food came out next. Did I tell you they fry everything in beef tallow? If you have never experienced foods fried in beef tallow, you need to come here and any other restaurants that do to experience the flavor that comes with it. My fries were so I purposely ordered fries instead of a salad for my side. I tore my fries up! The burger was smashed burger style with layers of savory sweet richness. Large pieces of bacon popped bedazzled the burger that was sealed perfectly by two buttered brioche buns. I ate it all leaving no crumbs behind. If I am ever in Sullivan, MO again, I will be back!

Great service! Food was excellent. They need to sell their amazing sauces! Don't pass up this amazing place!

    Jam burger & fresh fries

Jam burger was recommended by waitress which was excellent. Beefy with salty bacon & slightly sweet jam. Great combination. Fresh fries were good too! Their dunkel beer paired nicely. We sat outside & enjoyed the weather with shade as needed. They were very busy but staff stepped up to assure good & timely service.

The fry that was left over and that was the worst looking fry and it was still amazing

The fries here are awesome they are fried beef talo and ultra crispy. The service is very good and the ambience is awesome but the fries are the best. If you are even contemplating going out of your way, do it for the fries and then get extra fries these fries are amazing the fry in photo was the last Fry I ate, and it was the looking worst fry. and it was still super delicious.

We ordered a flight of beers, and thoroughly enjoyed each of the different ones. We also got some pizza, which was really good. Before leaving, we checked out the downstairs speakeasy room, which can be reserved for parties. I am sad that this restaurant is too far from me, because I would love to host a birthday party there. I definitely recommend checking this place out, and if we drive through again, I plan on stopping!

We would come back for drinks.

The only negative I have is that I didn't have time to eat more of the food. And order more drinks. So, this one will be on the list for a return visit. But, I can hear you saying... "Rob, you only scored it 4 out of 5!" Well, that is because I can't do a half-star. So let me explain! The Food - Amazing Schnitzel with all the right sides. Katie got the salmon, again seasoned and cooked to perfection. They get all stars for the food! The Ambiance - This place, at one time, was a working mill and has all of that rustic charm. There are private rooms that are decked out in the downstairs of the place, and plenty of amazing thick-beamed rooms by the bar and main seating area. Lots of fun things outside when it isn't too cold. Again, all the stars! The Service - The person who seated us gave us a quick rundown on the local liquors and their general food. Then, just for grins, let us go take pictures downstairs and at parts of the bar. See attached. She also offered to go further, but we declined and headed to our table. Our waitress... well... she was efficient and friendly. She took our order correctly and delivered the food and check appropriately. And here is where the half-star gets lost. I asked, "Which do you think is better tonight? The Lobster Spätzle or the Schnitzel?" Katie said I looked at her like she had just melted onto the floor when she replied with. "I prefer the Schnitzel! But, I haven't ever had any spätzle." Wait?!?!?! You are working in a Germanesq restaurant, in a Historic German town, and are over the age of 45. Obviously have worked here for a while. And you don't know what one of the 6 dinner dishes, not a salad or a burger, tastes like?!?!?! I mean... I can understand if it was vegan or something like that... but she just told me that she likes the PORK Schnitzel! Owner/Manager... please make sure your peeps can answer the simple flavor questions. Another place was even able to tell me which wine they thought would go with my food... off the top of her head, and they had more on the menu. That said! All of you who get the chance to eat here should take it! I know when I make it back to Hermann, I will, and I'm sure they will get that last star!
