First off drinks are ridiculously expense. They used to be ~$10 which is still up there but $15 now? Really? I got the brisket hash. Brisket was good but it was topped with plain brown gravy and came with hash browns that tasted like they were made at a coney island. It's definitely not like the old brisket hash which was absolutely amazing with the crispy potatoes, shishito peppers, and shriacha sauce. So good. This new hash sucks. Like I would never suggest to anyone to ever get it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old menu. Nothing wrong with the back patio. I would go at least twice a week brunch, lunch, and dinner by myself or with a group of friends. There were so many gems on the old menu. All the sliders, avocado toasts, obviously the hash, the amazing potatoes, BBQ carrots, mussels, deviled eggs, and all the specials! They took away so many wonderful dishes on the menu at Pop's too. They had amazing breakfast potatoes with tomato and mozzerella. Now it's just coney island BS. I'm pretty sure Brian Kramer hates potatoes because they all suck at every single place he has his hands in. How hard was it to just buy the place and leave everything the same? Should have been luke shooting fish in a barrel. Now you guys are just catering to out-of-town Ferndale Groupies there one day a month on the weekend instead of the locals that would give steady business every day. We don't want a flower wall for photo ops. We want delicious food amd drinks at a reasonable price. I will visit a couple more times and try some different things but I'm still mourning the old PH. read more

I really do want to give this place a higher rating; but I just can't. Walked in on a Saturday night and was able to sit down immediately with a few open tables. That was great! But the service... ugh, it was just SO incredibly slow - to the point I've considered leaving 15 minutes after the drink hasn't come to the table. My three friends all had their drinks before me. I found this odd since I all I ordered was a beer. On top of slow, she seemed very unenthusiastic and inattentive. I would say the service is the reason for the low rating on this review. The food was very tasty. I wouldn't say the portions are big, but the prices aren't that high so I can't really complain. The Cuban was probably one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've had yet and I've been to Miami a few times. The heirloom tomato salad was refreshing and shareable. Food is very very sub-par. We were sat at a small table top with barely enough room for food plates and when we asked to move to an open table, we were told it was a table for 4. Less than 10 minutes later, they sat a couple (2 individuals) at the table we asked for. Nobody ever came to join them. Maybe we are the wrong race to make such a request. read more

Amazing flavor. Just an FYI, we only got halfway through the carrot dip with the naan it came with until we ran out. The server asked if we'd like more naan which we found out was $5 additional when we got our bill. Not horrible but it does make it a pricier app. The beef slider wasn't memorable and the ground chicken slider had no flavor. The cocktails had so much ice. Both of our cocktails tasted watered down. They're already made with lower end liquor, so I'd at least expect them to be strong for the price. You can pay an up-charge to get better quality liquor for $3-$4. At that point it is better to just go to the Oakland for cocktails, which is what we did after dinner. read more

Great meal this weekend at @publichouse_ferndale house-made smoked bacon meant I did Bacon 2 ways. Candied Bacon which was good ( actually better reheated later as I got it crispier). It was sweet and spicy and substantial. The BLT was hardy and flavored with Garlic aioli as a twist to the standard Mayo. What a cute place! Came here for my birthday dinner and had a blast! I picked this place specifically since two of my sisters are vegan. And we love it! Out server was very accommodating and the drinks were delicious! The overall vibe of the place was amazing! I got the sliders and roasted Brussel sprouts and the Hot "chicken" was a favorite! I've been to this location more than several times in the past before it reopened. I did recently stop in with my boyfriend for dinner and I wasn't thoroughly impressed to be quite fair. It had been such a long time from when we were last in, that I couldn't remember why we'd stopped. Walking from the rear entrance to the front hostess stand was like trying to make it through a gauntlet of loud customers gathering at the bar, and employees that gather in the walking path to talk, making it difficult for those coming through. While I do like that the kitchen caters to both vegan and non-vegan diners, I feel like the general menu has gotten smaller as a direct result, almost as a compromise. For the main course, diners have a choice between 3 salads, 3 sandwiches, a burger (2 patties or 3- respectively called single and double), 3 sliders and 2 main courses which are both seafood. The "Public Pickings" is somewhat of a gray area, it is a list of small dishes that are undecidedly either sides to share with the meal as nothing comes with sides, or appetizers. I personally wouldn't consider the option of "braised carrots" an appetizer, but rather a side. The pretzel croissants were delicious yet $10 for essentially two pieces of bread is a dramatic price point. Something comparable to this would be the Everything Pretzels at Bobcat Bonnie's for $9.75 but I can guarantee you there are more than two pieces. Also, $6 for BARELY a handful of salted and slightly burnt fries was unexpected. Sandwiches are ok considering it only comes by itself. The Nashville Hot Chicken was good, but nothing to write home about being $13 on its own, and not remotely "hot"like one would expect. Regrettably, the buffalo chicken wrap at Tropical Smoothie is spicier. This is at best an a la carte restaurant. Know that if you are coming here, you are paying for the ambiance, atmosphere, a good time at the bar with your friends and each part of your meal paid for separately. read more

Our company Christmas party was held at Public House last week in the back-room area and it was superb! Our staff was very happy and comfortable there and the food was amazing. Their Chef even worked with us on deciding what we wanted. They also provided the opportunity to have a specialized drink that pertained to our company that everyone loved. The assigned wait and bar service that were assigned to our event were friendly, helpful, quick and efficient. Highly recommend using them for an event! My love for Public House has returned. After glancing at a menu for an over-priced veggie place nearby, we headed to Public House because of their awesome patio and low prices. I'm so glad we did. The food was outstanding, and our bill was 13.50 between 2 of us for what I thought to be a substantial lunch for 2 health-conscious women. We drank water, so that definitely helps with the bill, but if you need your food dollar to stretch in Ferndale, this is your spot. I ordered the smoked salmon toast and my friend had the brisket sandwich served with house made potato chips that were dusted with a sweet and salty seasoning. Yum. The salmon melted in your mouth with the lemony cream cheese spread, and the house pickled eggs were superb. I've never had pickled eggs before, and these were so creamy and...tasty. Yummy!! You're in for a treat with there fantastic brunch menu. Our large party was seated in their back area which have large picnic benches for seating. We used two. Among the entree that were ordered were Avocado toast, kale hash, brisket hash, chicken n' waffles, and a couple of other delectable plates with an array of beverages. Our two servers were attentive, working well with back kitchen staff and offering good communication with us while not being awkward or over the top. Public house is a fantastic place to get brunch even with a larger crowd. So if the place up the street is packed with an hour wait, cross your name off the list and take a 5 minute walk to Public House. I personally had the brisket hash and biscuit (on the side). They were outstanding! My husband got the chicken and waffles which were great. But after trying mine said he would have ordered it instead. I, too tried his meal, but mine won out. Re-reviewing because I was back in town and had a much better experience this time :) My friend and I were walking through the Rust Belt and got hungry. It was hot out and we didn't want to walk any further so we stopped into Public House. We decided to just sit at the bar. The bartenders were VERY kind. They quickly brought my friend's mimosa over and, due to what appeared to be a miscommunication, completely forgot my drink. After 15 or so minutes, the bartender finally came over and apologized profusely which I thought was really nice. We assured her it was not problem - even still, she comped the drink for our inconvenience. A really excellent touch. We split the breakfast hash - it was... one of the best things I've ever eaten. We easily could have gotten two instead of one to split. It was like a fried loaf of hasbrowns (literally the size of a medium sized zucchini bread). INCREDIBLY cheesy, an outstanding mornay sauce, yummy sweet candied bacon, and perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. Overall, a REALLY nice experience and much better than last year. Pretty crushed that the day I came they happened to roll out their new menu which HAS NO SLIDERS! They did away with that and are full sized sandwiches now. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was actually really good- I loved the aioli that came with the fries too. Also tried their house spun cotton candy and loved it! I'm a huge cotton candy fan so that wasn't really a shock. Over pretty disappointed I never got to experience their sliders but the food I had was good. I was never a fan of PH but when it reopened I figured I would give it a try. Saturday, I had a res for 6 people and when I got there to check in, they looked extremely confused about where to sit us. The host ended up seating us at a small table where we had to put two chairs on the end so we didn't elbow each other in the face. I feel like they had time to prepare since we had this reservation for at least 2 weeks. The server was very busy but nice and friendly. The food was okay. I had the hash and it was very filling. The mimosas were teeny tiny. Overall, I probably won't come back for brunch. I'm skeptical about coming back at all but we will see. read more

Public House is doing it all right. We have been here a few times and have immensely enjoyed each visit. The space is a very inviting and feels like an old-time bar atmosphere. Public House is not a large space and does fill up quickly. I wish I could remember our server's name. He deserves some kudos and compliments. He represents Public House in an outstanding manner with his patience, explanation of items, and attentiveness. We visited early evening on February 8th and I believe he was only one attending to the tables. The menu is sliders and small plate items to share. I highly recommend the Lake Superior Whitefish if it is on the menu. The accompanying roasted vegetables were an excellent compliment to the Whitefish. And for us, the Hush Puppies are a must order every visit to start off the whole visit. The accompanying prosciutto and maple butter are quite good. The beer list is excellent and the cocktail list is good also. Definitely stop in to Public House if you are in the area whether to imbibe and/or sample some of the menu. read more

There was a slight mix up that was no one's fault and it was handled with such grace and satisfaction. The staff is just truly beyond sweet and compassionate. The menu is very limited I ordered two of their sliders and we got the deviled eggs and hush puppies to share as an appetizer. The sliders were great, and I would definitely return to try all of them! I ordered the Nashville hot chicken and the smoked brisket, and loved both. The hot chicken is very messy but tasty, and while the smoked brisket looked simple, it tasted amazing and was my favorite of the two. Updating my review given my latest visit. I don't know why I gave them 4 stars, when they clearly deserve 5 and beyond! I have been here for drinks and I have been here for dinner. However, on Easter Sunday, I was introduced to the magic of their brunch menu. The fact they were open for Easter is one thing, but their brunch options are delicious and change weekly! They have a featured waffle each week, and for this particular visit, in light of Easter, it was a carrot cake waffle. They also had a brunch cocktail with cream and other yummy things to make it pink with a marshmallow Peep. I'm not a sweet- and heavy-cream- type drink brunch person, but they sounded (and looked!) great! Instead, for brunch I ordered their avocado toast. The last time I had the avo toast here it had pickled red onions and pea shoots. This time around, for spring I'm assuming, it was smashed avocado, mango, chilies, marcona almonds and greens. It was TO DIE for. I also got their grits with an egg on top, a side of potato hash (with shishito peppers), a bowl of fruit and their champagne cocktail. Everything was so delicious, flavorful and as always, the prices are more than fair and such a steal! Heard so many great things about Public House, I finally made it out here for brunch with friends. It was a pretty cold day, and waffles were pretty much the only thing I had on my mind after scoping out their IG. Walking in, there is a vintage vibe and big open kitchen area which I really loved. I ended up going with chicken and waffles, and a side of potatoes. My son got some toast topped with granola, coconut and blueberries which was really tasty. The waffle was nice and airy and very crispy. It was cooked perfectly. The maple bourbon sauce was a nice touch and it was probably one of the best versions of chicken and waffles I've ever had. I would love to come back here for dinner sometime to try the chicken wings and hush puppies. read more

I was so happy to see this place reopened. Always loved the ambiance and the food and drinks were good. Well, it's even better now! The pretzel croissant appetizer is one of the best things I've ever had. I also LOVE croissants and soft pretzels separately so putting them together is a dream. I also had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich - it was a really good chicken sandwich and massive. The fries were fresh and delicious, and I normally don't love fries. My husband has the burger which was also really good (and massive). We both took half of our entrees home so you can probably split if you do an app. The recommendations from our server, Stella, were spot on. The patio renovation is also really legit, can't wait to come back in the summer once the walls are removed.
