Small plates are really small plates. I thought it was a cute concept. The only thing I really enjoyed here was the patio, Kalbi dish and this fish dish. It is pricey and you don't get full fast depending what you get. I heard Imperial and this place are under the same owner or something. So compared to imperial, the wait time isn't that long here. Trash !!!! The best thing about this place is the decor. And you have to be sitting in a certain area to even experience that part. The Mac and cheese had a hair in it. Based on my last visit, which was years ago and was very good, I decided to return today with my friend, which was her first visit. This visit was NOTHING LIKE THE LAST VISIT. Who doesn't have coffee filters DURING BRUNCH? Why do you have a drink on the menu with a particular bourbon but YOU DONT HAVE THE bourbon in stock? Why is there more vegan options than meat options on the menu? If you are going vegan then just do it with a full vegan menu but don't be lazy and do it half the way! The bartender in the garden room took WAY TO LONG FOR DRINKS! Thank goodness I only had water. I had the hash for $15. It was good BUT there are other places that offer a much better brunch with more options for just a little more. The service was good but not having items in stock makes it harder for YOUR EMPLOYEES! Came here to meet up with a friend for drinks. It's a small, trendy bar with a cool atmosphere. Service was great, and drink selection was pretty good. Lots of options for beer lovers, good cocktails, and a few wine options. Although we didnt get any food, it all looked delicious. There was a disco ball, which I found a bit odd, but it wasnt really a distraction once you got used to it. I think I'll need to come back to try the food sometime. I dont get to Ferndale much, but with places like this, I'm going to need to visit more often. read more

Sexy vibes, strong drinks, amazing location. I went there for cocktails with some friends and it was a really good time. Not too busy and we all really loved the feel of the place. I honestly came here just for the soft serve. My bf and I were craving frozen treats after a concert and thanks to Yelp, Public House was at the top of the search list. I skimmed through the pics and spotted that they have soft serve, which I love. So we made our way over on a busy Saturday night and luckily found seats at the bar. While they don't serve food late night, soft serve is an option, which was the reason why we drove over. Public House features a special soft serve flavor as well as your typical vanilla. The night we were in, they offered salted caramel. Salted caramel ice creams are usually a hit or miss for me depending on how salty it is so I went with the swirl option with some cereal topping. The salted caramel was just right with a hint of salt. I also like that the soft serve isn't watery like some fast food joints, but it was thicker and creamy. My bf isn't crazy about soft serve but he enjoyed Public House's version of it. read more

Public House for brunch is always our go-to for their awesome vegan options, however we choose to go for dinner this last week for my birthday dinner. I have a sesame allergy and I let the waitress know and she said she made the chefs aware as well. I ordered the smoked grits (which she said had zero sesame products), and the grilled stuffed cabbage (which she said was made with sesame oil but that the chef would omit it for me). My grits came first and I had a few bites and found not one but multiple sesame seeds. I asked the waitress again if the original recipe came with sesame products because I came across them and she said no, it wasn't possible. Stopped eating the grits to be safe and moved on to the cabbage. Within a few bites I bit into something hard only to find another sesame seed and upon looking I found more in the cabbage. Very disappointing that food allergies are not taken seriously here. Will not be returning for dinner service or brunch at this point either. read more

Worst service I've ever had in my 30 years on planet earth. It was not busy at ALL despite being a Saturday night. Took 30 mins to receive drinks, an hour to get appetizers. The southwest eggrolls and cheese curds were good, drinks were average at best. I watched the second round of drinks sit on the bar for 20 mins. Finally after an hour and a half we got our entrees but only 3 of 4 people in our party got food. By the time the last entree arrived all the other people in the party had finished eating it was super awkward. Food was average at best, tasted like it had been sitting under warmer lights for a long time, and small portions. No one apologized or offered to comp anything. Worst restaurant experience I've had in a very long time. We missed our friend performing at the festival due to Jordan's piss poor service. Thanks a LOT Jordan and everyone else at Public House. 10/10 would not recommend unless you have 3 hours to kill getting a mediocre overpriced meal read more

Yeah, Public House, I dig yeh! Your menu may not be huge but it sure is tasty. Start off with some deviled eggs (chicken wing or tarragon. The chicken wing was a surprise--buffalo sauce tucked in under the yolk mixture with a hot sauce drizzle) and an order of house made chips with a vinegar aioili. Sliders were next. I had the American Burger (ground round, yellow mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion & pickle served with cheese) and the special of the day which was a portobello mushroom with brie cheese and other goodies. Juicy and delightful. Each slider is fairly good sized and SO cheap. My boss and I enjoyed a quick lunch here and split two orders of deviled eggs, the chips, and two sliders each and we paid somewhere around $20. Talk about bang fr your buck! The decor is cool. Big windows, open air kitchen, booth seating with black lacquered benches, very nice. Also, good--nay! GREAT cocktails. Including boozy milkshakes with fun little mermaid trinkets on the glass. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Public House until now. We have been coming here regularly for years. The weekend brunch is amazing with super yummy cocktails and crazy good breakfast. I always get the avocado toast and hush puppies with fresh prosciutto and sweet butter, so good and unlike any other brunch menu out there. We used to love coming here for the sliders, specifically the lobster roll which no one offers around here, and unfortunately it was replaced by a crawfish slider and now the sliders have been completely phased out. But, that was yesterday this review is for today. Today we walked in very excited to sit on their adorable patio with the Shasta bar in the back. I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming smell of deep frying. But we were sitting on the back patio and couldn't smell it there. We looked over the menu and realized it has been revamped with some very fun items and a lot of new deep-fried options which explained the smell when we walked in. We ordered the frickles (fried pickles) and croquettes. The freckles were absolutely delicious and fried in a tempura batter as opposed to the traditional cornmeal batter which I really liked. The croquettes were very tasty but could have been fried at a higher temperature to provide a crispier outer shell. We really liked the sauce that came with the croquettes as well and ended up liking it better as a dip for our frickles than the one that was provided. The service was really great as it always is and they always have really good, creative cocktails available. I'm giving this a four-star because I absolutely love the place. The brunch, the small plates, the roasted carrots, the hush puppies, the chips, the wings, etc. I am all about transitioning to a new menu to freshen things up but I think they may have missed the mark a little bit and should really work on the overwhelming smell of fried foods. read more

I don't know what is going on with this restaurant but it used to be pretty good. The vegan brunch menu, which used to be full, has now been reduced to three items. The vegan chicken and waffles were served on a cardboard plate. The waffle was undercooked, the frozen chicken tenders were over cooked, the strawberries looked gross, and the syrup was in a plastic ramekin with a lid. My friends who ordered non-vegan items were also not happy with their meals. The drinks, ambiance, and staff were great. I had been wanting to try PH for a while, I was thinking about it for Ferndale Restaurant Week a few weeks back but it didn't work out. I'm not a super adventurous eater but one appetizer caught my eye: HUSHPUPPIES. Love them. Theirs come with a maple-type sauce/glaze that tastes like PANCAKES and was delicious. The hushpuppies themselves I was not crazy about, I like Lockhart's a bit better (Royal Oak). I got the Banh MI slider (sliders are $3.75 each) and the smoked portabello one. The portabello one had something sweet (some veggie) topped on it which was good, but was a little too smoky-tasting. The Banh one was okay but had a huge thing of ham on it, I did like the sweet cucumbers/pickles on it though. The highlight of this place is the potato chips: comes up with a garlic dip that was AMAZING. Like, I would go and spend $2.75 or whatever it was JUST for that. I'd like to try their "boozy milkshakes" or a drink there at some point. Decor was pretty cool and the bathroom had these old pictures all over the wall, I thought they were individual pics but now I think they may be wallpaper, as some pics repeated on it. I don't understand some of the negative reviews. Maybe since I am not comparing this to Imperial, but this is a great place for service, bar food, and drinks. On a Friday and Saturday night, this place is packed. Just expect a min of a 1 hour wait for a table and the bar is also usually full. Since we were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, try some of their specialty cocktails and the few seasonal beers on tap. If you are a huge beer drinker, this is not the scene for you. However, the bartenders are wonderful and know how to make their cocktails. As a native Bostonian, a Dark n Stormy is always the drink of choice- but it is impossible to get someone in the mid-west that understands what it is- let alone make it! Bartender Amy is legit. So on to the food... Since the other yelpers complained of the portion size, let me explain what a slider is.. it is not meant to be a FULL MEAL or burger! They are sliders! I think the sliders and apps are just wonderful bar food for the area. The apps are 2-8 dollars and the sliders are around 3.5. This is very reasonable for a trendy place. This is no dive price, but it's not Torino either. Apps: 1) Devil Eggs with crispy chicken skin. I loved it- you won't cry about it, but for 2 dollars.. it is a great snack. 2) Fresh made Potato Chips with homemade aoili- perfectly seasoned and goes well with the drinks. 3) I do wish I tried the fried sardines. Sliders 1) Banh Mi- this is not a Vietnamese Banh Mi. So do not eat this with that in mind, the roll is too soft, but the pork is marinated well with a kick. I would pass next time for something else. 2) PH Burger- I liked it, but a little salty. 3) Buttermilk Fried Chicken- ummmmm just do it 4) PH BLT- this was the star of the night, crispy Pork Belly on a soft steamed Asian Bao bun. All and all, I had a great experience. The demographic is also more late 20's/30's and a mix of trendy/hipster older couples. I'm so glad the crowd that streams I just turned 21 are not frequent customers here. All the female bartenders are friendly and good looking without needing to show as much cleavage at any of the other trendy bars. I'll def. be going back! read more

I wanted to love this place because it truly is aesthetically pleasing and very cute vibes. The staff were all extremely kind and the drinks were delicious. I did however have a few things that I wasn't a fan of. I have a gluten allergy and they did have a handful of gluten free options. The bang bang cauliflower was delicious. I also got the French onion soup which wasn't terrible but also lacked a little in flavor and I got the gluten free pasta for the lobster Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese gluten free noodles weren't cooked correctly and were a bit tough but the dish also tasted like salt was poured into it. I was pretty disappointed with the food portion of my experience. My friends did like their meals though! So it could have just been an off night for the gluten free foods. My last thing were the bathrooms weren't checked regularly and were out of stock in different items and were pretty dirty. Service seems to depend on the evening you come, how busy it is and who your server is. First experience at Public House today for brunch. We had a group of 7. I tried the Gerty (boozy coffee drink with cold brew) and it was absolutely delicious. Our food came out and unfortunately my order was put in wrong so I did have to wait for a re-make. Our server was very apologetic and they took care of the entree off my bill which was very kind of them. I had the whitefish dip which was very different than anything I've ever tried but it was very good. Definitely happy with the service and the menu. Loved the vibe in the restaurant too. My sister and I came here after Imperial was extremely crowded and we walked around trying to find someone to have a good drink. We walked in and was seated immediately in the back patio which was really cute. This place is kind of small but the back patio with picnic tables is a decent size. It was pretty chilly out so the heat lamps were helpful. I ordered the deviled eggs after seeing the good reviews along with a Estelle cocktail. The deviled eggs were really tasty! The pork rind was a nice touch, however I could have done without the spicy sauce that was on the plate. The Estelle was very good and refreshing...I could drink a ton of those on a warm day. I also tried the fries which were VERY good. The service was decent but nothing to rave about. Our server checked on us often at first but eventually we ended up waiting over 30 minutes minutes before seeing him again to flag him down for the check...which was okay because we were too busy talking to notice. I went for lunch w/ co-workers, so I couldn't get what I really wanted to try, which was a boozy milkshake. My coworkers got the pretzel, carrots, hushpuppies, Impossible burger, perch, and pork sliders. They weren't impressed with hushpuppies (dry) the maple butter (not maple enough - just butter), or the carrots (too bbq flavored, not enough carrot flavor) but the carrots were all eaten up, whereas the hushpuppies were not. The curry on the perch was light, wasn't overpowering, and the Impossible burger was like a burger (per Coworker). One thing everything had in common - they were too messy to eat by hand. I'll probably give this place another shot, but I can't stand the exposed ceiling with all the stains - ugh. read more
