First, I really like this restaurant. the atmosphere is great the staff is friendly the parking is good and the prices for food and drinks are in line. Just a word of advice, do not order the Beef Stroganoff. it is listed as a house specialty. It is probably the very farthest thing from stroganoff. It can't even be called Beef Stew. It's bad. Number one, it has no taste or flavor. Second, it's served upside down. It's a very large portion but the beef, if there is any, is on the platter first. Then it is topped with 2 pounds of noodles. When served, they pour mushrooms in a gravy over the noodles. Then they ask if you want sour cream. These items should be cooked into the stroganoff, not added separately. The result is very large portion of tasteless nothing. I cannot understand how they call it a House Specialty! Again, remember, I really like this restaurant. I just want to keep you happy and not order the Beef Stroganoff. It sucks! . read more

But a couple of others in our party had dry pork chops and weren't totally thrilled. But I thought Public in Lockport was amazing. I'd go back. I was not impressed at all!! The whole reason we chose this restaurant was because they had a wide variety of GF options on the menu, however ANYONE WITH CELIAC DISEASE TAKE CAUTION for Cross Contamination!!! The server never asked if the person in our party who was subbing a Gluten Free Bun was due to preference or "allergy", when this happens I hope to assume the kitchen treats it as any other allergy but you are never too sure. When the food was brought to the table, they brought out a burger with a NON GF bun, not once BUT TWICE, additionally they cross contaminated the burger they did bring out by just putting the burger that was on the non-GF bun on the GF Bun. Thankfully the person who was eating this only has a mild to moderate reaction to gluten when cross contaminated, but this could go really bad if she would have eaten the bun and been sick for weeks! The server was very friendly; however, you can clearly tell she was overwhelmed, and in my option they were not very busy. The server was probably the best part of our experience and that was because she was nice and apologetic for the error. This was a restaurant that clearly appeared to have a "older crowd, age 60 or better" or regulars, and was NOT Kid Friendly despite being known for being dog friendly. We we had two small children who dine out frequently with us and know how to behave for their age, we were actually told how cute they were on more than one occasion, however a patron at the bar YELLED at a 3 year old for making a stomp on the floor while we were we were packing up to leave correcting his behavior already for the stomp. The patron was so loud that everyone there heard her yell, she made more of a scene than the 3 year old did the entire time they were there. We had a reservation for a group of 8 adults and 2 children going to celebrate my mom's (aka grandma's) 71st birthday for dinner. The ambiance was just so-so, the online pictures showed artwork on the walls, there was none. The food was mediocre at best, and the food wasn't "hot" including the soup, just warm, not anyone in our party thought what they ordered was "good" everyone said it was "just alright". The hostess and/or possible manager had a grumpy look on her face, and we were walking in and out and we just spent $402 with tip. When we made the reservation we loved the idea of the history, the location, the variety of the menu, and had such high hopes for making mom's birthday special, but were sadly disappointed and embarrassed for this experience for her birthday. Our past dining experiences there were never over the top or exceptional, but they were never this bad. After this we will not go there again. I understand restaurants can have a bad night here and there but I think this restaurant can over all do better! read more

We decided to venture out on a Late Sunday afternoon and drove toward Lockport where I'd been quite a while ago. What a nice treat! We shared cocktails and a couple of appetizers on the patio. I really love this place! The food is always so delicious, no matter what we order. The service is always friendly and very efficient. I also love the beautiful decor! I had the sea bass special and it was very good. Nice & light but very tasty. For dessert, I had the carrot cake which was very moist, but had just a little too many walnuts, otherwise very good! My daughters had the chocolate cake which I sampled & it was delicious! I also sampled my daughter's filet medallions & they were very juicy and delicious. I also really enjoyed the tropical mocktail. We had the pretzel bite appetizer & it was very soft and tasty! I also had the jalapeño corn soup and it was very filling & yummy. Well this was a very interesting place.. a very historic ambiance.. great place to go if you're visiting Lockport, with homestyle cooking... We went when they had their Oktoberfest specials .. I started off with their Chicken Schnitzel with potato pancake and dumpling the chicken schnitzel was delicious but the dumplings and the side of broccoli was cold And the potato pancake was not crispy.... Off the regular menu we ordered the Thanksgiving turkey. Consisting of fresh turkey breast stuffing garlic, mashed potatoes, cranberry and string beans .... Oh we made the mistake of ordering a well-done cheeseburger,now it was too dry.. So I would suggest a medium well Burger. If a burger is very lean and it's well..it will be dry...... But it was a good experience... I do appreciate the server taking it off. Believe me a lot of places you go. It's like you tell him what's wrong and they say okay and they walk away and they never fix it. Respond or anything. This was an older server. No foodie pictures this time because I accidentally left my phone in the car but everything was so pretty! We started with the bruschetta appetizer which was SO good - easily the best bruschetta I've ever had! For my meal I had the stir fry with shrimp. The portion is pretty big and could easily be split between two people or taken home as leftovers. All the vegetables were so fresh and the rice to vegetable to shrimp ratio was perfect! We also had the October special tuxedo cake which was the perfect way to end the meal. It came with a giant pile of whip cream and the piece of cake was decadent. Held my stepdaughter's bridal shower luncheon at the Public Landing in their Board Room. Communication with Dana, the restaurant's event planner, was superb and it was easy to book well in advance. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food and drinks that were served to guests. The food choices were varied and tasted great! The Board room was perfect for the amount of people we had and we were able to come in early to decorate. Our server the day of the event, Evelyn, was on top of everything and very pleasant. There are other party rooms as well depending on size. I chose Public Landing due to previous positive dining experiences and a good location. read more

This place could be fabulous because of its location, nice patio and good food...But, having sat at the bar tonight we were so underwhelmed. The one bartender was doing a decent job-he was underwater-but...the dive bar attitude felt off kilter. Zero management presence and just an overall lack of service effort (although the young bus servers were great). I felt a real lack of training, warmth and skillful service. The last words out of our bartender were literally, "Oh, you're done"? Ribs were delicious, just a shame though about the mediocre bar vibe. This place needs a B vitamin and a training refresh. This was our first time here, and we'll definitely be back. The restaurant is situated in the old Gaylord Building on the Illinois & Michigan canal in downtown Lockport. They have a very large patio section for those who want to dine al fresco, and a smaller but nice sized indoor dining room for those who want the AC ... either way, the ambiance was a delight. This whole operation is hooked up to the Lincoln Landing park area just outside their door. There was a free concert going on in the little park the evening we came. After a round of drinks, which were crafted nicely, we went right to the mains. One in our party had the Thanksgiving Feast (a 5 star offering which was just what you'd imagine ... sliced turkey, stuffing, mashed, and green beans ... all made just like home); another in our party wasn't quite as hungry and ordered the Crab Cake Trio appetizer and a side of mashed (a 4 star offering ... with a nice crab to filler ratio in the cakes, and a side of mashed that could have been shared with 4 people). The last in our party ordered the grilled swordfish from "The Skinny" section of the menu where the meals are supposed to be double veg and no starch ... ours came out with a single veg and the fish was laid on a bed of rice (so the lose a star for the miss here ... making it a 3 star entrée); the grilled swordfish, even though not 'skinny,' was delish. "The Skinny" idea has six different offerings and is one you may want to try when visiting. Service was very nice, even if one order may have been put in wrong. They had runners bringing the meals, buss people cleaning the tables, and enough waitstaff to work the room in a timely fashion. All in all this was a delightful place, and we'll be sure to return and try some of the other offerings. read more

Great venue, great vibe, great service. The food was mediocre. Uninspired and boring at best describes it. Bruschetta was covered with prepackaged pre-shredded parm on crostinis that were unseasoned premade pieces. The tomatoes and oil dressing were great. But it was not cohesive and overall lacking. Shred fresh parm, toast fresh crostinis and top with a balsamic drizzle. French onion was again uninspired. Overly salty, onions were just cooked but weren't sweated for a rich flavor and soft texture. The Caesar was way too fishy, with the same chunks of pre-shredded, prepackaged cheese. It was terrible. The swordfish dish was horrible, under-seasoned rice, over cooked fish and chunks of unseasoned boiled broccoli. Just horrible. The tenderloin was overcooked and overly sweet. Honestly we love this restaurant and have been here on numerous occasions and found it enjoyable. The place has amazing bones, but needs a new culinarily team. The Public Landing was outstanding. I had the filet which was cooked perfectly and the double baked potato with shrimp. I can't forget the asparagus which was also wonderful. The service was amazing. The waitress was attentive and made sure our party had everything and anything we needed. I also included a photo of a seafood combination that a hungry member of my party had and finished. They said it was excellent. My wife had a chocolate martini that she sad was excellent. The restaurant is located in a beautiful historic building which is immaculate. We started out with the ambiance being good. Our server Debbie was great. Our food came, with issues. One of the filets was raw, ordered medium well. The prime rib was hard as a rock, returned it for another cut and the 2nd cut came raw when we asked for medium well. We were approached by a gentleman in a black t-shirt and black jeans, didn't introduce himself but asked what's the problem over here...the approach was so unprofessional. I requested a different piece cooked medium well it arrived completely raw and dripping red. Out of no where appears at the table a man in tee shirt and jeans asking me what the issue is. I explained the issue and his response is can I bring you a HAMBURGER??? (How rude) Only to find out he was the manager, who never introduced himself. Spoke to us in a condescending manner throughout his short interaction with our group. Service was awesome with Debbie our waitress. Food was great. Prices were fine! BUT. If you get a waitress named Diane. Just leave. She was the worst. She missed our appetizer order completely. Was clueless. Had no explanation no apology. I highly recommend Public Landing. The dining area is delightful, you are surrounded by sandstone walls rough cut wooden ceiling beams and an inviting courtyard. I recommend the outdoor dining if weather permits. The staff is exceptional and many of them have been there for many years, which speaks well for the management. I have always enjoyed my meals, I've had many of the entrees some of which are only available from time to time. My favorite was the roast duck. On the other hand my wife has on occasion been disappointed with her food. The manager is present and seems very competent and interested in seeing that the patrons enjoy their experience. My husband and I (TeamBrown) went here for NYE dinner. We took another couple. Everything from arrival to departure was great. Our waitress and of course other people around the establishment were not wearing mask (if there wasn't a mandate) but yes, fully vaccinated and still in compliance, we wore our mask! The 4 star if for the safety of the people. Anyhoooo.... The food was delicious. It was plentiful, and the lemonade OMYYYY we all enjoyed that. I love the fact that the ambiance was still beautiful in the winter.
