-First Impression- Seems like this place used to be something totally different before. There's not a lot of decoration and you can kind of tell by the built in structures, but very clean and organized. -Food- I only tried a small bite of the fried rice from someone else's plate, but it was very flavorful. All of the options on the menu seem to be well thought out. Not 100% sure, but I think all the food is either vegetarian or vegan -Service- Robert was so knowledgeable and hospitable. an over-hyped & overpriced Gowanus converted warehouse (yes, another one). the cocktails were absolutely disgusting (soooo sweet) and the vibe stank like dreadful brooklyn hipsters. the only upside was the outdoor seating. i will not return. read more

Came for the club (which was trash) but stayed for the late night ambiance in the restaurant. The contrast was shocking. Restaurant: 4 (4 for food, 4 for drinks, 4 for service) Club: 0 ( 4 for sound, 4 for drinks, -1000 for vibes) Felt like a bougie wannabe Nowadays built for sad heteros with nowhere better to go to mate. Came for a friends birthday dinner. Overall a really great experience. Our server was great at recommended both food and drinks for us. The burrito was filling and very tasty. Also, the waffles are a must have. Aesthetically, the restaurant has a nice vibe. read more

Venue itself is dope, food was ok, but the review is for the service. I came with a group of 6 for a late dinner and we ordered 1 of everything from the menu. The server told us that some of the portions were small but we told him that was all right because we had a snack prior. However, he took it upon himself to give us SIX of one item (at full charge). I.... don't think that's within his right lol? We ended up not being able to finish it all, and were frustrated that he served us more food on his own accord and charged us for it when we never asked for that much. And throughout the night, he kept asking us if we wanted a bottle of wine (this happened 3 times in 30 minutes) even though all of us had cocktails that were still 50-70% full. It seemed pretty evident he was just trying to rack up our tab as high as he could, but it felt incredibly forced and highly unprofessional. Then when we were about to pay, he held out his iPad and skipped to the screen that lets you add tip. He wouldn't let me go back to see the itemized receipt. I asked if gratuity was included since we were a group of 6 and he said no. So I gave him a 25% tip despite feeling like he was constantly trying to shove more stuff down our throats, bc I know the restaurant industry has been hit hard with COVID. I had the receipt sent to my email and saw afterwards that a 20% gratuity had already been included. I know restaurant workers have been through it tough but I think this was pretty unacceptable... sad to say I will most likely not be returning to this establishment bc the server left such a sour taste in our mouths :/ I really wanted to like this place, and want to support local restaurants, but not when I feel like I'm straight up being lied to and forced to pay for something I never wanted lol. They don't seem to know what they're doing. I ordered food and a drink and after sitting and still waiting for food, they told me I had to move because they had to set up for dinner service. I was asked to move twice and the area I was being put into had no tables. There was terrific live music being played in one space and then Some other music playing in different space disturbing the live music. It's styled after some of the similar record bars in London and Tokyo, and surprisingly it's first of its ilk in New York. A warm, yet bright room that you have to experience. Great custom sound system in a hands-down gorgeous space. The price though keeps ones pinky in the air if you know what I mean. From what I gather the building was an old animal hospital that got renovated. What a wonderful space they created. So much overhead to capture sound heat and thoughts. Very well done bar with some table format seating. I am little confused as to why, but the table seating has a host.. so it becomes table service instead of hang out space. Which is odd for me because the bar room DJ is near the tables one would want to be at to listen.. The whole table service thing adds to the bouji-factor this place unfortunately has going. Probably my only real flaw with it. Most nights in the sound room tickets are $17. Awesome talent, awesome quality.. but that's a hefty ticket for a dj without a live band. That's just me. I think cocktails are $14. I love it. Glad it opened. Honestly I was conflicted at first, but after coming back I've seen many different crowds here that its starting to get nice. Public Records has an unassuming exterior aesthetic on the outside. Upon walking in, you have a 15 x 10 ft 'store front,' in which there is a coffee set up on the right-hand side and a record display on the left. There is a central opening which opens up to a large, interior grey-like vibe that is difficult to explain. It's a space that is great for enjoying cocktails in a mild-mannered atmosphere. However, the entire space is very vibe-y and is great for hosting birthdays, events, et cetera. There is an exterior space in the back with fancy canopies, a chicken coop (which apparently houses a party/dance space for house/Chicago techno music). In addition, to the main large atrial space, there is reportedly a basement below that serves as an underground party space for shows/concerts. Succinctly put, this is an underground, hip place for foods and drinks. Go here dressed fashionable--it looks like a place were influencers go. read more

Couldn't tell you based only on a club event that was advertised by "DICE" app which clearly stated the party event was from 10-4am. Mind you I got there at 230am with a lot of ppl just to see no club open gates closed ??? Is this a joke and the promoters on "DICE" app don't even have the courtesy to refund you ? I went this place today because it seemed pretty nice and had a good vibe as it is located in the Brooklyn. Me and my gf came here and pretty pumped about the atmosphere and drinks that this place offered. But one of the bartenders kind of ruined our mood a bit. First, we asked about some drinks and this guy answered with unpleasant look towards to us. I mean seriously, we are here to spend some money and have a good time and vibe but this guy's service just not seem professional. We've been to many bars and the experience we got today would be in the one of the unpleasant bat experience in the NYC. Hey, this space is cool. It's got a little bit of everything... walking through the door, you'll find a mini café. But really, it's all you need to satisfy that craving. Walk through the doorway and you're happily greeted with an open and airy space containing plenty of seating, and a horseshoe shaped bar directly ahead of you. If the space still hasn't sold you, to your left is another door, leading to some nice outdoor space. There you'll find a bunch of small, round tables on a a large, rock-covered patio. Two of my friends got dragged out forcefully by the neck by multiple men who were "security guards" at this establishment. When i went to confront security about the abuse their staff conducted on my friends, their staff member (specifically a shot woman) threatened physically hurt me. I would never recommend this location to anyone, especially if you are a woman. My friends got dragged out by their necks because one of them stumbled in front of a security guard. No one should EVER be handled or touched like that. Disgusting. read more

Decent place and vibe, but the bartender-manager was horrible. My friend didn't tip on a warm $14 beer, which I think is reasonable, and the bartender said snidely, "I think you meant to hit 25%." My friend said that he didn't want to tip, and then the bartender clicked 25% tip anyway, so my friend called him out for being a thief. The bartender waited until we got to the front of the line to go upstairs, and then whined to the bouncer until he escorted my friend out. If you go here, don't buy drinks. read more

Cool vibes, delicious vegan food. If you want to go to an upscale-y hip vegan restaurant with a live DJ this is the place! Dishes are pretty small, I shared 4 dishes between me and my 3 (small) friends, they had a small menu that rotates often. Cashew Burrata: the crackers that came with the burrata were these really thin sesame crackers. The burrata itself was really creamy and came with figs and greens and well as a green salsa. Red Gem Salad: the seared asian pear were out of the world, and the rest of the salad was just as delightfully fresh and vibrant Tacos: came with 2 tacos, spicier than expected (too spicy for my friends) but perfect for me! Gnocchi: I haven't had much gnocchi in my life so this probably isn't that much of a statement. But easily best gnocchi I've had. It was just the right amount of chewy and soft but also crunchy. And the sauce? AMAZING. So so so creamy- you wouldn't be able to tell that it's vegan. read more

Such a very special place. What do I mean by that? Love & care. And it's visible everywhere. In the beautiful design of the main bar & restaurant, to the outdoor space, and of course the sound room. It's visible in the sound system playing in both spaces, with speakers that can make a grown man weep. Seriously. And I haven't even gotten to the programming. Check out 718 session here every so often, or a million other a-list DJs. And enjoy them on a dance floor that feels like the old Cielo that held the crown in the west village for many years. If you spend any time at nightclubs, especially the big mega ones like Mirage, you know that they can be cold and unwelcoming. The wonderful thing about Public Records is that it is smaller, and what a difference an intimate space makes. To mean it rivals the best in NYC, such as Elsewhere rooftop, Nowadays or TBA. If I haven't gushed enough already, I'll tell you also this space is as good for a morning coffee or afternoon bite as it is for late night dancing. Weekdays they're open at 10am and serve all the usual caffeinated beverages, plus a small menu of ... VEGAN SNACKS. I had a kimchi grilled cheese the other day that was seriously next level. I'm not often keen on vegan cheese because it doesn't always hit like real cheese. But this sandwich was ridiculous. What else can I say, perfect coffee, chill place to get going in the morning, beautiful ambient tracks playing on the speakers, and a regular parade of hip co-working Gowanites. This place is soulless. We all suffered from the club experience. First, music sucks. They barely tried. That's the worst part. Second, people here are not nice and it doesn't get the right vibe going. Coat check is obligatory! And when I told the guy it's a fashion statement and he gave me this heartless cold shoulder forcing me to check my coat. And nobody was friendly there. In the end, it was almost unbearable to be in there. Don't waste your money. Go find real music and soulful people. read more

I wish I could give different ratings for different things here. The yard and the cocktails are amazing and are what will bring me back but the food was underwhelming to me. They definitely have some good flavors and fresh ingredients, but I felt that the food didn't stand out. However the cocktails and the ambiance were top notch. The Negroni was interesting while still being exactly what I wanted it to be. The Paloma is a great way to stay refreshed on a warm summer night. read more

The airier room in the front (the one that serves as the restaurant at earlier hours) was more to my taste as we are not hardcore clubbers. The drinks are on the pricier side. Gave Public Records a second try and I have to say, it's just as mediocre as the first time. Service has improved, but really only a smidgen. I ordered their Kimchi Grilled Cheese. The first half of the sandwich was ok. The second half was burned, but they hid the burned side. I noticed it after a bite and found it inedible. I also ordered their frozen cocktail which was served with a straw that's too narrow. I had to wait for the drink to melt completely before I consumed it. I think this place works if you care less about the quality of food and drinks, and want to experience a different ambiance. I am officially writing this place off. read more

Read the other reviews and notice what people are saying about the staff, i.e. that there are some major shortcomings. This is a truly incredible venue and space, the sound room is amazing, and everything is beautiful. But the staff. Wow. Sure, some people were fine, nice, and helpful. But the overall vibe was a blend of misguided incompetence along with weird aggression. The doorman made a weird veiled threat to me (yes it's as crazy as it sounds) as I was (very politely) showing him my ID, and that set the tone for the night. Just super cringey. Hire better staff that aligns with the vibe you're going for, or train the existing staff better. Out of the dozens of staff that I saw or interacted with, there was one person who was nice and chill. This venue has so much potential but if you staff it with jerkoffs, it kills the vibe. read more

Cool spot. Just make sure you check your coat. It costs $4, but if you don't and you happen to put it down somewhere, even if it's immediately next to where you're standing, you're in for a treat: they have a guy whose job it is to go around and find people who have put their coats down, and give them a hard time about it. Look, if you're just trying to keep the place free of coats, I get that, but make the coat check free. Or, if it's about money, charge more to get in. But don't go turning your coat check into a moneymaking add-on if you're just going to harass everyone who doesn't use it. Really kills the vibe. read more

Over priced and the food isn't even that good. Small portions that are under seasoned. Drinks are good but over priced, it was $18 for a wells cocktail. Cmon now... Had the pasta and noodle itself was dry and broke apart and the sauce had very little flavor. Also ate the lions mane and it was extremely small portioned. I left hungry and felt ripped off sadly. I am vegan and cook for myself and have better meals at home than at public records for a fraction of the price. The staff was rude and uninviting other than our server who was great ( young black femme, very kind and helpful), she deserves a raise. read more
