Terms keep changing. My original agreement was for a LARGE storage unit (2 lockers combined) with two entrances. This fit my needs perfectly! Today, without any warning one of the doors was permanently locked. Worker who was unfriendly and with such poor customer service told me that this was their new policy....no prior warning, no communication re: this change. This was extremely upsetting and has now seriously disrupted my storage access. Unacceptable! Changing, increasing prices is another issue. Another bait-and-switch tactic. The price started out reasonably- but once you're in there watch out as pricing goes up- way up. Our unit started out at $178- left at $585. I have no idea why. Also the elevators are having major issues over the last few years. We even had to use the emergency steps at one point to get our stuff down. Everyone else there is polite and helpful and yet this particular person seems to go out of her way to make things difficult in a very passive way. For the third time I showed up in the middle of the day and the office was locked. So, no one was there to provide any service and you couldn't get a cart to use. Last time I waited more than 30 minutes for someone to show up. This time around 15. For the extremely high rent that they charge this is ridiculous. read more

If I could give them a -10 I would. Their business model sucks. They get you in with a reasonable rate then within months they start to jack it up. Within months after that they continue the same. After about 2 years the rate per sq.ft. doubles to more than a luxury condo, that has a bathroom, a kitchen, 24 hr. access, and other amenities, etc. The storage locker doesn't even have electricity. Just now the office was locked, with no note as to when a worker would return. A guy waiting outside said he was waiting for more than an hour because they had his driver license. Honestly have never thought to leave a review of a storage unit. Normal storage procedures and easy to use but the staf was extremely kind and helpful. So the storage is normal but the fact that the staff is awesome does make using this place a lot better. read more

I got there at 8:10 am and facility opens at 8:00 am. But once I got onto 5th floor, some area lights will turn on, my roll won't, and manager gone until 9:30 am. No one available for problem with lights. I couldn't see into my locker if I didn't have my cell phone. Ummm, there's usually one person on site all the time. Also, I wanted to purchase small boxes...what an inconvenience? Even if you have to do banking, it doesn't take that long to deposit. What's up guys?! My friend and I rented for 4+ years. Never missed a payment or paid late. When we finally had to move out we wanted to clear out early in the month to save on some of the cost. The unit was swept clean. We moved out by the 5th of the month. The following week we went back as we didnt see any credit. Staff told us that they dont prorate at the end of the agreement. They couldnt explain why just that its policy. We said then we'll use it for the rest of the month, but we were told we couldnt because they rerented it. In just over 4 years the monthly rent increased almost 80% from when we started. Constant increases. They lure you in with cheap rent then start jacking it. I hear thats their standard procedure. Has a storage place ever made you feel like an absolute moron? PUblic Storage Kakaako did to me!! 3 stars so this won't get buried... Long story short: I didn't shop around. Just went and rented the smallest available nearby unit for my 6 boxes and 1 suitcase. It was $150/mo. Okay, fine, it's Kakaako I get it. With taxes and rental insurance I'm paying them $177/mo. Move in was fine whatever but I didn't realize you only have access from like 6am to 6pm, which can limit things. Fine. Then I get an email last week saying my rate is going up and rent will now be $214/mo. W tee eff!!!??? That seems excessive. So I finally start looking at comparable storage places for a better price. Literally across the street is UHaul Storage and they have similar units available for $55- $65/mo. Wtf. Public Storage totally scammed me. I've paid them $177 for 6 months when I could have paid $60 to UHaul across the road. I called several times today to try and register to get a storage unit and a Kapiolani area location. As I had filled out a request online, I called the store because I had a problem registering. Instead of trying to answer my question, the clerks kept transferring me to customer service. I told them all I needed to know was if they had a storage unit for rent on the bottom floor as I am disabled and handicap and unable to walk upstairs. They transferred me again. At this point I was irritated and just decided to hang up on them. If they decided to answer my question, which I felt was reasonable and answerable, I would've rented from them. However, they lost my business because they were so rude and unaccommodating. Therefore I rented a locker from another company which is about $50 less per month than public storage. Stay away from this company. read more

Customer service would be a big step that needs to improve. Facility closes at 6, although i literally had my boxes right outside my unit to be put in. Over the intercoms yells at me to pack up my stuff and leave. I was already in the building with all my belongings, it took me longer to pack my things to get out of the building then it would have, to just open my unit and drop my things in. I did not feel valued so I moved my business to their neighbor, U-Haul storage. read more

If I could give this place less than one star I would. The whole Public Storage business plan of penalizing long-term renters as opposed to giving them any kind of incentive is ridiculous. Every six month rent will be raised! However, my biggest problem with them at this moment in time is they illegally auction off my unit. They blatantly broke the state law by not following, the law. They appear to feel that they make their own laws. They get away with these unlawful and unfair business practices because no one ever fights them on it. They are essentially bullies, doing what they want, counting on people not questioning or fighting back. I have filed the police report. I have filed in civil court and I am not giving up or going away. Their whole customer service is a joke. Just try reaching their legal department through their corporate office or number! All they do is give you the number that you called on, the general customer service number, and you go around in circles and it's impossible to reachthe legal department. Will tell you that they will only speak to your attorney. I have been told by my attorney that this is false. If someone can represent themselves in court, then the legal department has to speak to that person. But if you can't find a number or way to reach them then how can anyone, including, an attorney, speak to them! Just be very careful going into it and know that they are not going to be upfront and honest with you. read more

I have a car full of items I wanted to put in storage. I called twice to find out rates. My call was taken by a recording which told me to select 1, so I did. The first time somebody answered and I could hear something moving around on the other end of the line, but no person responded. The second time, it just rang and rang. I guess I will go look for another place to store my items. read more

Long term renters BEWARE. We rented a 10 x 10 on December 27, 2019 and the rates kept increasing after every 5 months. We started paying $178.00 and in July of 2022 we were paying $442.00. The only reason for the one star is because the staff was friendly. A total increase of $264.00 which I think is totally ridiculous. So we moved out. read more

I did all the process online and they were on it by the dot and next day we loaded our extra stuff. Been using the storage place to store everything I own and I go everyday to drop off and pick small perso all items. I was told I have to vacat the unit I have been using for almost two years because they accused me of using it as a habitat which is in no way true. I'm there for 30 to 45 minutes most days. They have raised my rent for the unit 4 times and have called and harrassed me over how I store my things. My suggestion to anyone who needs storage don't use this place cause they will take advantage by showing a low rate and then raising it way high. They also have many problems such as the elevators constantly breaking down, homeless people sleeping on the property, restrooms unavailable, cars parked on property being vandalized by non users of the property, several times late opening and trash inside and out of the property. This is a terrible place to store your personal items. Do yourself a favor and go to a different place. I would give zero stars to this place since they have new management and employees the place has gone down hill in service and quality. read more

I first went in on my way home one day because I would be moving out of my place soon and needed a place to store my stuff. I was greeted by Dora who was extremely kind and helpful in answering all my questions but I ended up reserving a unit a couple days later online. I ended up wanting to move somethings in before my original move in date and so I called and asked and they said no problem I would just to come in a sign a new agreement before I moved in. When I got there Dora was working again and remembered my name and that I had called earlier. She helped me with the paperwork and even volunteered to stay a few extra minutes after they were going to close to make sure I was able to store all of my stuff. Do not store anything of value here... IT'S NOT SECURE! Everything small and of any value will be stolen. It seems like an 'inside job' where they come in through the wire mesh ceilings and your lock means nothing... it's just for show. Staff is nice, and the facility is well-located and clean. But price increases are borderline dishonest baits-and-switches, and they charge different people vastly different prices (and won't match), so I just can't recommend doing business with this facility. Six months after opening my unit, they raised prices on me by over 15%. One year after that, they raised prices almost another 15%. So 18 months in, I'm now paying 35% more than when I started. ($405 now vs $300 originally). And they offer lower rates online and won't match. I've done business with a number of storage facilities over the years and never had such gigantic price increases in such a short time, especially with charging other people far less. Go to any other storage space. Their facility has leaks and they don't care if your items get damaged. They do not prorate (like others storage places) on move out and moving out at the end of the month is near impossible with the number of people and them renting loading space to containers. No customer support and very little care about customer happiness. read more

(5) Good hours CONS: (1) The light was never fixed in my unit after repeatedly asking for a new bulb over many weeks. I was told the decision to replace a bulb has to be made by the district manager (lol). The woman next door to me said she'd requested the light fix too, 7 months ago... (2) Homeless people pitch tents lining the whole building as soon as the office locks up (3) Some floors are quite humid, even with "AC"! 3rd floor was OK though :) TIPS: (1) Tow trucks start taking cars at exactly 10pm. (2) Keep your own wheeled cart in your storage, so you don't have to fight over the 4-5 carts they have available to the WHOLE 5-story building. read more

Willa was extremely helpful, giving me a reminder call regarding my reservation and confirming my move in date tomorrow. I told her I had another storage unit there I was going to consolidate into the new big one I had reserved. She suggested that I come into the office to finalize the reservation because I could then roll over the balance of my monthy payment on my existing space to my new space, keep the same code, and transfer the lock. She even offered to take the lock off the new space tomorrow morning so we could get right to moving in when we get there. She also gave me the best available rate. This is my go-to place for storage! I really like how it's climate-controlled, has long hours, and is in a convenient location. This Public Storage is located on the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Kamakee Street (behind Mckinley High School). It has multiple floors and access is by password-protected elevators. They also let you borrow their flatbed carts. They take your ID card for collateral. You can only borrow carts during office hours. The workers are friendly and helpful. They have helped me to decide on which storage room to choose and which boxes to buy to keep my stuff. They have also explained how billing works. You can pay for your storage online or in person. You get a discount if you make reservations online. One thing that I did not like was the restroom. I found it to have a very bad smell. Maybe I was just unlucky with the person before me, but it smelled like a homeless person spent a good amount of time inside. Parking is plentiful with many stalls. Their hours have changed with access ending at 8 pm at night now. Overall this is a good place to keep your stuff. It's a little pricey but great for what you get. read more

Grand you I just move in Dec 29th paid 1 month and not even a week and they have a nerve to call me for my bill for next month is absurd when the next payment is not du yet. If I knew this is how this place operate I would have never rented from them ever. I know this is the close to my condo but this is not the type of business I would deal with now too much stress. 1.
