The staff I like. The storage spaces are clean. Be prepared, they have 3 elevators and a lot of the time either one, two or all three are out of service. Just so happen I was moving into a new home and was in the process of getting my things out of storage when the only working elevator crapped out in the midst of it all. We carried what we could down 3 flights of stairs though the rest of the heavy things I didn't dare. I must say that it took quite some time for them to get the elevators up and running (maybe 3 or so weeks), which was a huge inconvenience for me. If I ever need to rent a storage space in the future I'm sorry to say it won't be at this location. read more

Worst public storage facility! The staff are friendly and the storage rooms are clean. I was happy initially. But be prepared: 1) They NEVER have enough carts on hand. Just four carts for 1600 storage units!! I was there numerous times the past two weeks and was delayed every time waiting endlessly for carts. 2) The elevators are always breaking. One month they ALL were broken. You can only hope this doesn't happen on your move in or move out date. 3) They draw you in with low rates then sock you with increases within months. My $250 10 x 10 space rocketed to $320 within just months of moving in. 4) The bathroom on site is as bad as any public beach restroom. Toilet paper roll sitting on the tank. Not in a sanitary dispenser. No hand towels. Generally grungy. 5) When I downsized from my 10 x 10 to a 5 x 5 the they told me my new billing would continue on autopay. Now four days into June I get an urgent call saying I haven't paid up and will be charged a late fee! WTF. Won't take a credit card over the phone. They expect me to drive all the way over to pay directly or pay through their pay system for a $10 fee. THEIR mistake, but they want to charge ME for it. 6) Oh and bring your tape measure as their spaces are NOT as advertised. I transferred a piano to what I was told was a 5 x 5 space. Lugged it all the way there and guess what--- NOT 5 feet! Piano didn't fit as it should have. I learn after the fact that their space quotes are only "approximate". 7) Finally don't be fooled by all the security cameras thinking that keeps your things safe. Movers damaged my piano when I moved in. It was all filmed on their cameras near their unloading area. When I called to ask them to check their video they gave me the run around for days. Claimed they couldn't find my phone number?? (right on my account page). Finally when I got hold of a manager they said, oops, we erased that tape already. So if your storage gets broken into good luck. Unless you are there every day they won't keep any record beyond a few days. read more

BEWARE!! Public Storage KAPIOLANI will RIP YOU OFF with their RATE SCAM!! HUGE Rate Increases (25%++) AFTER YOU MOVE IN! Do NOT trust Public Storage!-- 1067 KAPIOLANI. Just a few months after paying a moving Co. $$$ to put all our household goods into a very large space @ $577 per month I was told my rent was going up to $762 (inc tax)--for no reason! I was set up for auto pay so every payment was made on time; there weren't any issues, complaints, etc., I was hardly ever there. Chris V. (district mgr.) never returned my calls; PS's national "care center" line said they couldn't help! They say if you don't like it you can move to another (cheaper) spot--but my space is 10' x 20' feet and loaded, plus I'm 70 and use a cane. It's a scam--plus if I did move they won't guarantee they won't just raise THAT rent. Maybe they single you out if you have a big space because harder to move once you're in. Over $150 increase is HIGHWAY ROBBERY --over 25% is NOT an inflation or COL increase. There was another same size unit for $394-I went there and said I'll take it (reluctantly) but they said "go online" & when I did it was "gone." Let me start by saying that you aren't going to get a $55 per month storage unit on island anywhere. That being said I've shopped around, twice now, and both times I've come back to THIS public storage. You are really getting the most bang for your buck BUT I would purchase your boxes and tapes ect at lowes! It's about three times more expensive here. Problem (aka Opportunity To Grow): I am moving. We need a sh*t ton of boxes. Emotions (aka Ego): This sucks. Do you understand how much CRAP we have! Solution (aka The Way Of The Universe): Public Storage I know, I know, I should just get free boxes off of Craigslist but then I have to call someone, and pick-up those boxes in Hawaii Kai and then drive through traffic. A pidgeon will be on the road, I'll veer to miss it and end up in a 15 car pile-up. Then you're stuck in the pile-up, you're late to go to dinner with friends and YOU end up not meeting your true love. See how selfish it would be of me to try to save $100? I can't do that to you! So in the infinite wisdom which is my intuition I decided to pick-up boxes at Public Storage. I'd recommend buying the medium sized boxes because the large is way too difficult to carry. Not that I carry anything these days, but there I go thinking of others! I just can't help myself! Medium boxes are $3.90 each but if you buy 50 you get a 30% discount which is like buying 35 and getting 15 free. Ray was nice enough to help me and I was nice enough to tell him he needed to go back into teaching. Not that Public Storage isn't awesome, but Ray is ready to find his higher purpose via ping pong and paint ball. Ray if you're reading this, you'd better listen! I know things... Moral of the story is yes you will be paying for boxes, but it'll make your move a lot easier and less stressful. Your future true love will agree with me, I have foreseen it! read more

This place is your answer for a clean, well maintained, friendly storage place. The rates aren't the cheapest, but they're not sky high. The storage units are clean, and I haven't run into people living in them (...yet). Workers are friendly and greet you when you come in to the office. HUGE BONUS: They have clean restrooms. Woop woop. There are 5 or 6 platforms rollers you can use if you go in with your ID for the to hold. Don't be the butthole who uses all of them. HUGE DOWNFALL: No trash... So all the trash you create or find in your unit you gotta throw away somewhere else. That sucks. ANOTHER SAD DOWNFALL: The unit isn't open 24/7. I know it's probably for security purposes, but I think closing at 5pm is too early. And opening at 9:30am is too late. Sometimes it's really inconvenient. Even if they extended the closing an hour it would help a lot. Despite those huge negatives, this is still a great place to hold your stuff. You feel safe and the workers are nice. It's hard to find a storage that is everything you dream of without a hefty price tag, but this place is great. Safety is huge for yourself and your items, and Public Storage covers that. read more

This is NOT the location of the super secret Yelp Lair! But if it were I would definitely say that the facility is great! It's feels relatively safe and is nice & clean. Units on the first floor are a little pricier (I think) and I can't speak for the other floors (but I imagine it's a little creepier since you might be the only person on the entire floor?) The front office staff is very friendly and try their best to be helpful. They can lend you carts (all you need is your ID) and they have the bathroom key. They also sell things you might need when moving (like boxes, tape, etc.) It's a/c in the storage which is definitely a MUST because you get hot hauling and moving boxes and things. The only bad thing is that they don't have onsite trash so you have to haul your trash home. If they see you leaving your trash or dumping it by their trash you will get a fine. Oh and occasionally parking can be hard to find but that's because so many people like this centrally located storage facility! read more

As a Yelp intern you have to deal with your fair share of schwag to say the least! This little haven is perfect for storing our priceless prizes! The people at the desk are so great when I'm borrowing carts and never judge me when I come back all hot and sweaty from "schlepping" all the schwag! The only downfall is that it closes at 9, even if you have a code to get in. So after late night festivals I have to wait til the morning to take everything back. read more

Upon closing my own shop I needed a convenient storage space...FAST! I went down to the Kapiolani blvd. location and the staff there was well informed and answered my many questions I had without any "eye rolling". I first rented a 5 X 10 unit which fit a washer, dryer, counters, shop vac, grid bars, trash bin, mops, and a few smaller items. You have to buy 2 locks for the unit and enroll in their insurance for about $8. Upon selling the washer and dryer I decided to go one size down to a 5 X 5 unit. The unit transfer went very smoothly due to the great job from Ray (PS representative), he showed us the new unit and courteously researched and found us a unit on the same floor to make the move easier from one unit to the other. I was very pleased and satisfied with his customer service and feel safe that my belongings are well taken care of by this company. The storage facility is clean, climate controlled and well secured. There are 3 big , key entry elevators. Also it doesn't hurt that the staff knows what they are doing and have nice customer service. Reserving a unit can be done on line and a representative will call you the next day to confirm the unsecured(no credit card) reservation. There are gate hours so you know that there won't be people living in the storage units. *laugh* Yes there have been cases of people trying to live in these facilities. read more

Understood my dire situation and set me up at the Waialae unit were I just waited for few minutes and instantly was help by Carol..who immediately took care of everything from showing of unit..to the Boxes I needed as I told her I have a mini Macy and Longs and of course Shoes..Clothes..Bags galore.. All explanation of unit..monthly fees insurance.etc gave me a sudden relief. Tiffany and Larissa also helped as no other customers were there..a great dynamic team..would give them 10 stars.. As a first timer in looking into storage units, Public Storage made it easy. I went online and called the number and they would somewhat screen you first. They asked me what I would be storing to determine the size unit I would need. Told me they reserved a unit for me at the kapiolani location and just bring an id. I entered the kapiolani location and saw they had ample parking. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by Steve. Steve wAs great on everything. He looked at the unit location that was reserved and switched the unit to a closer unit to the elevator, without me asking! Loved that! He led me to exactly where the unit was. Had me test out the lock key and explained everything while at the unit....after returning back to the office, Steve explained everything till I understood what I as signing. Whole thing itself took about 30-40 minutes...Steve, great customer service! read more

Superior customer service. The staff has taken the time to know my name, ask how I'm doing and always welcomes me with a smile. In recent years Public Storage has upgraded security, meaning when they are open there is a human on the premise. No more being at the storage unit alone. It makes me feel safer. Occasionally I have packages sent to me there. The employees send it up to my unit and sometimes give me a call to let me know it's in my unit. Parking can be frustrating but usually I park in the yellow lines (for loading and unloading) with no problem. I appreciate all the great work that public storage has done in the past few years. I really can't say nice enough things. read more

The price is the only thing that I am not a fan of. But it is close to my place and it is very clean. If it were at least $50 cheaper or offered the $1 move in on the medium expensive units, rather than just the over the top priced ones, I would be even happier. The customer service was an easy and friendly experience. Getting in and out of the facility once my stuf was beign moved in was a breeze. I am very pleased otherwise. read more

They are extremely courteous, friendly, and willing to help and explain any questions or concerns you may have with your storage unit and account. If you could rate less than one star I would. After storing with this company for one month, I have a few negative experiences to explain. The cost of renting a unit with this company is way over the standard price for any other, plus the excessive fees, which were not provided prior to signing an initial contract. After paying at least an additional 50% for fees which were never estimated prior to my move in, I was called repeatedly while moving in for silly reason, and treated as though I was an idiot. They assured me prior to move in that carts would be available to assist in the moving process. However, every times I have visited this location, all carts have been "in use" by other customers. They only have two or three carts available for over 400 units, so if you need expect to have a cart, you have to put your have on a list that can take at least 4 hours to turn around. After settling my items into storage, and having to pay for 16 days of a month unused, I was called 6 times in a 24 hour period to pay a prorated amount totaling less that 10 percent of a month. During those calls requesting the prorated price, nobody's ever mentioned anything about the next months payment, and I have yet to be provided with any kind of billing explaining the charges for what is due. They did not ever provide a bill of any kind for my second month, neither by email, phone, or snail mail, and then expected me to know what was due and how to pay it, without ever providing any information on how to do so. I repeatedly requested a bill to be sent by email, snail mail, or ANY OTHER OPTION, but was informed that this is "not something they do", and then was charged nearly $100 extra fee when I didn't have the next months payment prepaid by credit card on the first of the month (after being called 6 times on the 28th regarding a $35 prorated rental fee, but never being told what was due in the next few days). Honestly, this company is just extremely confusing, and doesn't everything as inefficiently as possible. I have never worked with a company that refuses to sent a bill within a week of the date the payment is due, and then charges a late fee after not notifying customers of the charges due. It's super confusing. I was forced to leave a voice mail for a manager to request clarity and exemption from the fee, but was denied. The manager took 48 hours to respond, and then notified me that the request was denied, and tried to tell me that when I signed the contract that I should have been informed that a mysterious payment amount was due on the first. Since I never got a bill, I was unaware of the amount, and was never informed of how to pay if I didn't walk into the limited office hours available, yet was unable to get consideration for unpaid bill when it wasn't paid on the first. This company is just a nightmare. Nothing is done the way every other company does things, and they have done everything in their power to charge me as much as they legally can for an overpriced storage unit. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Find another option. There are 12 other storage companies within 5 miles of this place, and they all charge less, and don't cause the nightmare situation this company has made me suffer through. read more

Bait and switch. Online is like a separate company than at the location. Price matching needs to be sent from a manager to someone further up the chain to possibly get changed. Online prices and offers are never the same when going into the location. Misadvertising and frustrating to deal with. My lease ended at the end of November, and due to some unforeseen circumstances, I didn't have a new place to move into yet. So I was temporarily living with my boyfriend, but using Public Storage to store my items until I found something more permanent. Getting the unit was easy, and the facility is clean, which is always a plus. The employee who helped me was enthusiastic and took the time to explain everything to me fully, and to make sure I wasn't confused by any of the terms of the lease. I don't recall his name, but he also helped me during a great experience I had with them yesterday. I was pulling some things out of my storage unit yesterday, and as I was leaving I used the restroom. As it turns out, my phone fell out of my backpack as I picked it up to leave, and my phone was left in the room. When I returned in a panic a little over an hour later, the employees (both the gentleman from before and a woman named Taylor) were immediately helpful. The guy let me use their phone to call mine, and then walked next door to the AT&T store to see if anyone had turned it in. Taylor let me use the 'Find My iPhone' app on her own phone to see if we could track it. They reviewed the tapes with me and we were able to narrow down the suspect to 2 people, and allowed me to call my parents from their phone so my father could set up a message and offer a reward. When my phone was turned in several blocks away to the customer service area at Ward Theater, both employees made sure I knew the easiest way to get there. Overall, I was standing in the office area with them for around an hour, in varying levels of stressed-out, and they were nothing but understanding, helpful, and reassuring. Many places I've been to would have simply said "No one has turned anything in," and left it at that, or possibly reviewed the tapes when I filed a police report. All said, I'd definitely recommend this place based on the customer service alone, but the facility itself is also a great place. read more

Everything is clean and it seems very safe. The guy working the front desk did his job good and help me getting to my storage unit. I was actually only there to clear it out. After I did that, I was told, that there are no refunds thought I paid for the whole month now it's the eighth of March and they don't give me any money back. Of course they prorate every single day when you move in during the month but they don't give you anything back when you move out during the month.needless to say I'm not very happy! They advertise and tell us only need two days notice to move out and no locked in contracts. We attempted to move to smaller unit to downsize but they had nothing available to fit so we gave the notice and moved out. Then they email us for 26 days for full month due bill for when we are not in there and are going to rent it and take double the money. Then they point to the fine print which they never say when selling you on only two days notice to lock you in. We will be taken them to arbitration and make sure everyone knows the greedy practice they do. Beware..... read more
