I use Kaimuki Storage, and I wanted to come and leave a review because my experience has remained consistently positive. This is a perfect spot for someone who needs a clean, safe, and affordable place to store their belongings--especially if you're not needing frequent or constant access to your things. It's not the kind of place where you can treat your unit like a second home or come and go at all hours, and that's something to be aware of going in. It's family-owned and operated, which really shows in how they treat people. The staff is always friendly, kind, and very straightforward--something I personally appreciate. They've been gracious and respectful every time I've interacted with them. Yes, the hours are limited, but honestly, that worked in my favor. Very unprofessional service. I DO NOT recommend this place for any UH student. From the start, communication was poor and confusing, and I was given different information by different staff members. Important details about access, pricing, and timing were not explained clearly, which caused a lot of unnecessary stress. When I tried to get help, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. Instead of taking responsibility, they made excuses and shifted blame, which only made the situation worse. There are much better storage options nearby that actually care about their customers and treat students with respect. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. read more

I have used quite a bit of different storage facilities. While a lot of the mainland chain storage facilities are very modern, new, climate-controlled, air-conditioned and clean, these companies bait you with an amazingly reasonable monthly premium to start, but to only be raised a few months later and again every few months thereafter. What once started as a dream, ends up being the worst nightmare. You live on eggshells not knowing when the next premium increase will hit and the next thing you know, you are going from a couple hundred dollars to double what you first started paying! I've always experienced nice employees wherever I went, but when you just need a cheap place to house your belongings, the rent is the #1 issue. In walks Kaimuki Self Storage... I was able to get a storage unit just a tad bit smaller than what I had elsewhere, yet at half the price! Sure there is no ac or climate-controlled climate, but it's storage! What were you expecting? The Ritz? I love the huge padded flatbeds to cart your things to your unit. They are bigger than the norm. The staff is so friendly and so helpful and have been there for years. I rented here over ten yrs ago and Davina was working at that time and still is, but now her granddaughter also works there! Not only are their prices totally reasonable, but they dont fluctuate like EVERY OTHER storage facility! So quit wasting your money on these chain storage facilities and go with this locally owned place. You wont be disappointed! read more

The worst customer service. The place is unprofessional and VERY outdated. I will update with pictures once I remove our belongings. It smells in the facility which will cause your belongings to smell as well. Don't waste your time. The storages are made out of wood, the place is a Joke. Every time you open your storage unit wood chips fly down on you, our unit cannot open fully because they was they have the pipes set up along the celling. Water is leaking from the cellings. If/when water drips into your unit and ruins your things they have no courtesy to let you know. The posted operation hours are incorrect they close earlier without warning and if you enter near closing time they let you know you don't have much time. So ghetto. This place is very close to my home. This place is so clean and the Devin's is so friendly. I would highly recommend this place.

The owner was friendly and accommodating at the beginning, which I believe was solely to secure my rental. Over time, I began noticing unreasonable and unauthorized charges being placed on my card. Because of this, I removed my card from autopay and made it clear that I would call or text to authorize any future charges. One employee, Mish, was always polite and respectful. Unfortunately, her boss was the complete opposite. Despite my clear instructions, my card was charged without my consent. When I went into the facility to address this issue in person, the owner terminated my lease on the spot, claiming it was due to "insubordination." She then stated that autopay is mandatory for all renters. I asked her to show me where this requirement was stated in my contract. The document she provided only stated that autopay is being offered, not required. There is a clear difference. I removed all of my belongings from Kaimuki Self Storage due to: Unauthorized charges Poor and hostile customer service Unsanitary conditions (including droppings on storage bins) Excessive heat inside the facility To this day, I am still waiting for a written termination letter, which I was told would be provided. I will be taking further action and pursuing this matter fully, no matter how long it takes. read more

My boyfriend and I have been renting from KSS for a littlE Over 6 months and havent had any problems. The staff is very helpful and courteous. One day last month i was having a problem with the lock on my locker and the manager stopped what she was doing and came to my locker and helped me get it open. PILAU!! :( STAY AWAY. A poorly run mom and pop company. I stored there for three years. Discounts lure you in and in the end, they rip you off. Under no circumstances will they give you a credit $$ back on your card, even if your things are cleared and out over 30 days earlier. I wrote them multiple times politely and they responded with rudeness and kept my money. Even saying "we already gave you a FREE MONTH." Umm. Nope! They DON'T CARE and NO EXCEPTIONS. The laborers are certainly helpful with climbing up and helping when stuck etc, though. The owners have zero class.. Think before you spend! P.S - these folks are fighters on Yelp, so what ever they say back, take it with a grain of salt. ;) read more

Can't believe the owner commented on my review with her lying a$$. She was there and argued with me because I was pissed half my things was damaged. Over $1,000 worth of stuff gone all because they had a leak in my unit. She didn't want to even refund me 1 month. Very friendly staff and cheap rates, they gave me an additional storage for practically nothing because I couldn't fit it all in the first one. They send you updates on your phone and your monthly receipt. Manager was so understanding of my situation and gave me an additional 5 days to vacate for free. Devina WOW Do not I repeat do not rent storage space from this place. I never thought this place. Was that bad until I went through all the yelp reviews and it's the same complaint over and over this lady Davina is yelling, threatening people causing damage. It's just an awful person I like how it says business owner , but when I check there is no name Devina attached to kaimuki self storage as owner and if so she Is . miraculously. OK, I don't know any owner that chases away customers threatens them damages their property and still is in business. I have recordings of her demeanor, her attitude and the way she talks, not only video I have audio so all I was trying to do was move out, and the documentation was that I had to give my lock to them that I bought and when I questioned Divina, she started yelling at me telling me she's the only one there. No one's gonna help her. She gotta do all this NOT MY PROBLEM lady that's why it's called a business. If you cannot fulfill obligations as a business owner OR WHATEVER YOUR TITLE IS then you shouldn't be so as it goes on I have to takeoff from work go down to the self storage and talk to this irrational lady and soon as I got there, and I asked her why she was yelling at me low and behold she calls the POLICE someone that can play the phone yell at you threaten you and then play the victim unreal ! And even in her efforts to get me caught up three police officers showed up for me, trying to move out of my storage and for me getting yelled at by this lady she was trying to do something to hurt me by using the police to basically intimidate me, and in the ending They were confused as why they were there . I will file my complaints with the Dcca and consumer protection and BBB As I see going through the yelp review, this is been going on for a long time and no one's done anything about it. If anybody's experiencing any of these things with this lady, file your complaints with the department of consumer protection agency the dcca It's a time process, but they will investigate . So again, there are many other self storages on this island this I would not recommend unless you liked to be treated as they do then by all means . I don't even know what she is. I think she's the janitor. Just because the way she acts like she has a lot of toilets to clean The other thing that I was looking at was everybody saying that they don't wanna do prorated refunds because it's not in their policy so basically they want you to pay for a empty locker that you're no longer using that why do not use this place for storage BIG RIP OFF AND MEAN LADY I MEAN, IF YOU KEEP GETTING THE SAME COMPLAINTS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND THE VICTIMIZER IS JUSTIFYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER I GUESS IT MIGHT BE TRUE. I thought it was too good to be true when I saw SUP storage for $15/month. When we brought our boards in after signing our contract, the shelf we were taken to was not the one we'd been shown, they had recently taken on an expansion and added plywood shelves and brackets to any empty wall space they could find. The shelf didn't seem particularly stable and it was a tight fit as there were other boards on the opposite wall of the small hallway but we made it work and assumed it would be fine. Then COVID came and we were all locked down. When the restrictions eased up we tried to get our boards out but found that the hours were not at all convenient, with them being closed on Saturdays and only open until 1 on Sundays. I get that you're a small business, but I would assume that most people want to be able to access their unit on weekends? When we were finally able to get in we found that our boards had been moved to a different shelf and were not secured, the shelf they had been on was not sufficiently anchored and collapsed. Mind you we're talking 2 of the foam SUP's from Costco, they're not heavy. They state that they tried to contact me, but I'm not buying it. I read my phone number back to them when she put my information into the computer, and they had both my email and mailing address. To top it off when we got to the water we discovered that one of the boards had multiple punctures from the collapse, probably from the radio that was on a shelf below the boards. While I was able to repair this is an expense I should not have had to bear and it will definitely impact the resale value. If price is your only motive when picking a storage locker this is a fine spot. If you want security or the peace of mind that comes from knowing your property won't be damaged due to negligence then look elsewhere You get what you pay for. read more

Update on my last review. The staff are still pleasant and helpful as when I first signed up many years ago. I had to call them to update my credit card information and it was a seamless process over the phone. Their monthly statement emails are also very helpful on notices about any special closure days due to observed holidays. Keep up the good work! read more

I have moved recently from Public Storage to Kaimuki Self storage. There is a huge difference in customer service. Also, Pubic storage raised rates 3 times in one year. I was very pleased with the customer service I received as a new tenant, from Mish and Devina, when moving into a unit at their location recently. The price points are great compared to the commercial self storage locations in the area, and various deals and incentives (referral rebate) are great opportune to cut move in costs. There is a wide variety of unit sizes to choose from too. The hours could be adjusted to accommodate the 9-5 working crowd, and there are occasional street people that drift through the entrance of the location, so be flexible and use the buddy system. Compared to other locations on island I have rented from, or made runs to with friends (and there have been many), this location is the nicest, cheapest, and safest. Upon arriving early to Hawaii from Los Angeles, our airbnb host recommended this storage place for us until our room was ready for check-in. When we arrived at Kaimuki Self Storage, AJ helped us, and she was so kind and so sweet. Stored our bags safely, while we got to grab lunch and do a hike. We came back and met with Divina, who again, was also so very sweet and kind. She retrieved our bags for us, gifted us a couple of cute office notions from their business, and sent us off with the sweetest smile! Thank you, AJ & Divina! If you're not the type to work in customer service industry or people in general, don't run business or work in places where you gotta deal with people. If you don't have the right mentality and don't even know the definition of what communication is, find something else to do. I got scammed by this place. Followed exactly what they told me to do, and my time was wasted. Now I can't even get my money back that I waited for LIKE THEY SAID TO for WAY over a month. My mom rented a unit due to our family moving to a different place to store some items. Due to them not having availability for a bigger size, she rented a unit that was available and told the staff, Mish, that she wanted to rent a larger unit. As there wasn't any larger ones, she was willing to rent out an additional one from the second day of renting the first one. Mish told my mom that she'll hold it, said she won't sell it or hold it to anyone else, said we didn't have to sign anything. I went to the storage next day with my mom ( as her English isn't the best ) with all the items we were going to store in the additional storage. Come to find out her MANAGER, Devina, who I just got off the phone with and yelled at me for the whole phone conversation today and hung up on me, sold it to someone. We asked Mish why she didn't have us sign anything so we could have held the storage. She couldn't give us an answer and just said the manager sold it without telling her. There was nothing else we could do. So as we needed bigger space, we had to go find another storage place, Public Storage, and rent a bigger unit there. As Kaimuki Storage was closer and was in the neighborhood, my mom went there but it was THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. The main part of it all is, regardless of it says on the contract or not, if the MANAGER approved to give refund due to promising things that they couldn't keep and caused inconvenience, telling the customers that we WILL get the refund, give 14 days to get the money back, said they emailed the RECEIPT AS WELL, ( NEVER CAME THROUGH ) but just because I'm calling to follow up as the money is STILL NOT REFUNDED AFTER OVER A MONTH, you're gonna yell, saying WE DONT GIVE OUT REFUND???? Excuse me ? Because you brought the inconvenience TO YOURSELVES, and I'm calling to FOLLOW UP, answering the questions YOU ARE ASKING, you're gonna yell at the customer that's calling to follow up on THEIR money??? Devina was keep on yelling at me, talking over me, repeating that they don't give out refund, it's on the contract..MA'AM. That's NOT THE POINT. Is this how you "handle" all issues ??? Just keep yelling, saying I'm not listening and then hang up??? Contract is not the issue here. If we were told otherwise that it's a strict no refund policy from the beginning when we ASKED for a refund due to the situation, that would have been it. But THEY made the decision to do otherwise and I'm following up and now they are gonna change their words, telling me to tell MY MOM to come to the store so you can talk to her?? What's the difference? I said I'm calling on her behalf as her English isn't the best AND I WAS THERE TOO AT THE STORAGE. I get that you'll check with the CC company due to being a weekend, even though that's what we've been told this whole time, but DONT TELL ME IM CAUSING THE INCONVENIENCE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO CONTACT THEM. Seriously??? ... THE AUDACITY. What could this possibly be besides a scam? Why did I even get yelled at FIRST THING IN THE MORNING ?? We have used them for the last 4 years for my daughter while she attended U of H and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff and how accommodating they have all been to us over the years. There are many different size units to fit your needs and very reasonably priced. The units are well temperature controlled and never had any problems with moisture or mold or smells. The employees at Kaimuki Self Storage really care about their customers and are especially supportive of the students at UH. Everything shut down after my daughter had already traveled back to the mainland for Spring Break. After we decided it was best for her and the people of Hawaii to keep her at home on the mainland for the remainder of the semester and summer, we had to arrange her move out and storage of her items from her dorm room. With the assistance of her good friend and the kind people at Kaimuki and a lot of phone calls, all of her things were stored safely at Kaimuki Self Storage, including her moped. Kaimuki even transported her things from the dorms to the storage facility at no charge. When my daughter moved back to the island for school, the ladies in the office were exceptionally kind in assisting us with the trouble of losing our key to the padlock and even helping by lending a tool we needed - they really saved the day so many times for us! In addition to their kindness, the storage facility felt very safe and secure and it is also kept very clean. They also provide large dollies for your use to help transport your things to/from your storage unit. We plan to use the storage facility in the future because of their incredible service. read more

I found this place thru Yelp after a dozen calls. I found just a place. A family run business, Straight Talk, NO BS, Reasonable Prices & just simply nice family to do business with. They are willing to negotiate if you bring your manners with you (which societies are lacking). You can't go wrong with this establishment. Warning! I've call number of storage places, majority are dominated by franchises. They are forcing you to pay "their owned" Insurance Liability Coverage, which they are required by law to operate businesses. That's Straightout Scam! (Its like restaurants demanding you to pay insurance to eat at their establishments). They can suggest or offer coverage but not demand. Too many added fees which is ridiculous. They're goal is you default within the first few months. They don't really care about monthly payment, they're more interest in selling your belongings which are more valuable to the industry. That's why they constantly keep raising your rental 2/4 times a year. Congress & State Authorities must investigate this industry. read more

So the manager (Davina) called me today to accuse me of lying and was basically yelling at me. She said they have videos and that nothing was left in my unit. Even if that is true, I paid for the month so by right I should be able to keep my lock and my stuff in there, right? She claims that I asked to move out early. All I wanted to do was to make sure that I wasn't charged going forward. It's not even about the money at this point. I have been renting here since October I had massive mold all over my sneakers and hats and clothes and then the Indian lady kept saying oh it's we have insurance we don't have insurance so it's here on the contract, but you could wipe everything down. I wiped everything down another storage voluntarily and still, and then when I say, I don't wanna rent here no more, so to claim for all my damage and Sneakers after I told her I got into a car accident. She was like oh but you could get a new phone and you can't pay the storage. That's why she went spiteful and went revengeful and charge my card but then told me to give her cash with that being said, Car will be in fact very soon when they get all the money back I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that deal with the problem very rude and very disrespectful when I got into a car accident I could've died and she was like oh you can get a new cell phone and new car rental but you can't pay here unbelievable business run by people that are not native Hawaiians ruining local businesses read more

Bad air circulation no air or circulation in storage unit so all that dead air in your unit will cause a lot of MOLD and MILDEW all our important things like pictures clothes leather things bags on and on and on all ruined I think if you dont have valuables you treasure and trying to keep them safe then you'll be ok if you're like me and you want to store your important stuff away for a reason for latter or future you will be sad and dissatisfied and disappointed with their air circulation they have a lot of fans but that is not enough we did have other storage unit with tempature controlled air conditioners sometimes you get what you pay for they are cheap but I guess in the End dont be CHEAP pay extra for a better unit with better air flow is the lesson also they always CLOSED on unexpectedly days holidays, renovation days , all kinds of odd times they are CLOSED it is very inconvenient if you always want access to your storage unit their is a 24 hours storage up the road highly recommend them it is clean with central air conditioning temperature controlled environment very MOLD FREE AND MILDEW FREE clean air also their is so much spiders and spider webs everywhere they need to do some deep cleaning here the units are old and not maintained. This place is great! This was my first time getting a storage unit. I was in and out in minutes and the staff was really helpful. I came back with more items than could fit in my original unit. They noticed that my unit was going to be too small. And literally less than 1 minute later they got me set up with a larger unit. Being my first time trusting my belongings on someone else's property I was concerned with security.
