DON'T DO IT!! As someone who has used this storage location for a number of years, I can say that it has become a not so good location. We have an inside, climate controlled, unit...the minute you walk in the door it smells of must and mold. We are convinced that there was water seepage in the unit on the exterior wall but received no credibility for our claim or compensation. Initially it was a good location, but simply is not taken care of and maintained. Smelly, lights are out, old. The staff is ok. The cost quickly accelerates, but I think that happens at any of the Public Storage locations, not just this one. For a better location, go just a few short miles away to the newer and better Public Storage location on Irving Park Road. read more

This storage facility deserves ZERO stars. I don't even know where to begin! I guess I should start with my visit on 03/02/2017, 3:15. My family has 3 storage units, all 3 of which are different sizes. On 03/03/17, the lock wouldn't budge. The weather was unusually warm, so cold weather was not a factor, as in occasionally locks can freeze, or be very difficult to open. While trying to unlock the lock (same unit for 3 years) the key broke off in the lock. We want to the office, and we're told that NO ONE could come out until 03/27. This storage locker is used for business purposes, and the belongings were needed within that week. They have NO LOCKSMITH on site, and apparently they only do repairs monthly. We were told to call a locksmith and have them cut the lock off. 60 minutes, and $100 later, the lock was off. Then we were given a new lock (normally $15) for free. The only nice thing that was done. We wasted a lot of time. While at the office, we complained that out of the 3 units we had, 2 doors would not stay up, once opened, therefore we had to use large pieces of metal to prop the door open, in order to move belongings. For 3 months, we had written work order forms to fix these issues, to no avail. Also, in the 10x30 unit, there is a light to help see, as the unit is so large. The light was never fixed, after 3 months of asking. Finally, the light was fixed, but the string was left up 30 feet high, so we could not reach it. Fast forward to 2 weeks later. We tried to open a 3rd unit, and the lock "stuck" again. The manager used some special lubricant spray, to open the lock. Did the lock open? Clearly, the answer is no. The manager on-site blamed us for having the wrong key. We have been there 3 years, and know what key goes to each unit. He tried to blame it on the fact that we had not been there in 2 weeks, and the lock was rusting, because of that fact. It's their lock. All the metal on every single unit has rust. Beware of that! We called the DM, Curtis Heinz, whom was beyond rude, and unempathetic to our situation. He played the "blame game", and stated he would not refund the $100 locksmith charge, despite the fact we pay $500 a month for storage. As other reviewers have said, the price goes up exponentially, every single year. Not by a small percentage, either. He is unprofessional, and very unaccommodating. He boastfully claims to handle "emergent situations, professionally, and efficiently", while he is exactly the opposite. When pressed for answers as to how they are a storage company, with no locksmith during normal business hours, he had NO reasonable explanation, and continued to blame our family, in a sarcastic, rude tone. Fast forward to 03/16/17, 12:15. We used our codes to get into gated the facility. "Access granted", but the gate wouldn't open. We went to the office, which stated employees were at a district meeting until 1PM. We called an emergency number, gave them all our information, and were able to obtain a manager/emergency code to grant access to the locker. Guess what?! It didn't work. We had to go home, and come back. We attempted again, and the gate still wouldn't open. There was a line of pissed off customers trying to get into the storage. Finally, at 1:20pm, an employee came back to the office, and attempted to open the gate, to NO avail. So he stated he would open the back/emergency gate. Finally, we get into the unit, only to see that during repairs, they broke the latch to open one of the units. Clearly, we were blamed again, despite the fact they were the last people to use/fix the unit. Mr. worthless Heinz was called again. No answer, or call back. Despite he states he listens to VM's twice daily. Being a nurse, and majoring in the sciences, I understand oxidation and oxygen rust. Also, when meetings are held in a hospital setting, there is not just "one meeting". If that were the case, who would care for our patients? This is WHY we schedule multiple meetings. So someone is always around for when emergencies happen. If not, someone would be dead. Any DM with common sense would know this. Mr. Curtis Heinz has anything but common sense. Oh, his number was on the sign to call if there was a problem during the meeting. If you're running the meeting-- how are you going to answer an emergency call? I urge anyone and everyone-- DO NOT USE PUBLIC STORAGE, specifically this location! Deplorable management, and customer service! I'm researching better facilities, and would HAPPILY provide resources once found. Also, do NOT GET INSURANCE. It does not cover broken locks, rust, or damage to the outside of units, despite them pressuring us to get it every single year when renewing the lease. So what really matters? I think normally in order of importance: 1) Price 2) Cleanliness 3) Security 4) Staff RIGHT? Well in my experience there it got out of order. #1 became Staff. I checked out a couple places in Schaumburg and was not happy about my experience. As a matter of fact a brand new place just opened up and Chicago summers can get HOT but we know this. I stopped at the new place before going to PUBLIC STORAGE and I asked for a tour of the grounds and was told "its too hot outside come back when it cools down". So I was pretty much done with the idea of a storage unit. Luckily I still went to PUBLIC STORAGE. Mgr. LEANNE greeted me at the front door and almost immediately asked me if I wanted to walk around. We did. It was like the 3 bears. One too small, one too big............ Finally after about 45 mins. she helped me to select a 10 x 15. It was just right! Clean and it smelled ok. Do not. Do not use this facility. We were given a price of $196 to rent a 20 x 10 unit in Aug of 2014. We were told that it's customary for rates to increase 1-2% periodically. After 6 months, we received a 13% increase on our billing. After calls to the facility and the district office they state that even though our price is above "fair market value" they cannot do anything. When you call anonymously to ask about the price of a unit our size, they quote a lower price which they claim to be fair market value and say again, that it could increase about 1-2%. It's a classic bait and switch. TOTAL SCAM!! Use another storage company that won't lie and cheat you out of money. They charge crazy prices after you store your belongings because they are banking in you not wanting to incur the cost to move your stuff. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PUBLIC STORAGE HERE!!! Not just this facility specifically, but the district near Schaumburg IL, unless you want to pay a lot of money. I'll do a quick summary here for all that want it. Summary: I know it sucks moving stuff out but it is better to consolidate your stuff and find another storage facility rather than dealing with: 1. A company facility who seem to change rules to best suits their sales and how to take more of your money 2. Company that has "Incorrect" website content 3. Company who will keep raising rent by a lot for improvements that don't exist 4. Misinformed/ untrained personnel who give you incorrect information that can end up costing you a lot of money 5. Customer Service Numbers that lead nowhere 6. District Manager who couldn't give a damn about anything Read on if you want specifics. Full: I used to think that this place was fairly decent, but they have just really gone way downhill. I have put up with these people long enough. They have been raising the cost for unit rental with them each year; $20 each time. When I asked them why, they said they did it for "improvements" for the facility, which I have not seen in the many years I have been with them. I am now at $202 (including mandatory insurance) for a 10' X 15' outdoor unit. The facility also has workers who rotate between all the district facilities so they don't fully know what is going on in the facility. Most of the people who work in the facility is nice, but they are either misinformed or not trained well. I had signed up for a new unit in the same account online with a deal. I went into the facility and the lady who worked there said that the deal only pertains to new accounts and that the public storage website is wrong. My brother ended up signing for another unit, signed all the paperwork only to have the property manager call us back, stating that the lady who did our paperwork put us in the wrong unit. He asked us if we can move our stuff out of a 10' X 15' unit or re-do paperwork the day after we just moved in all of our stuff. In the most recent instance, my brother was moving his stuff out of the unit at the beginning of October (yes 2017, this year) and I decided to move into another unit. We asked 3 separate times with three separate people if this was ok and if we would have to get our stuff out before. Each time, we were told they prorate so we will only get charged for the days we use. One of them (September 16, 2017) specifically says they prorate up to the 6th day or else we pay for the entire month. Even the day before, (September 30, 2017) we asked a guy there and he said to just come in tomorrow and you'll only get charged for the day. Came in the next day (October 1, 2017) and the property manager said they "just changed the policy" starting October 2017 and they no longer prorate. I asked him when the policy was changed and why we didn't get notified and he said the notice would have been sent via email, which I have not received. He then told me to call a number for customer service number which doesn't lead to anyone in customer service but leads back to him. After some research, I was able to get in contact with a customer service rep who said they wouldn't be able to do anything but gave me the number for the district manager. I called the district manager and told him of the situation and he said that the policy has never changed and they have never prorated. He said he can't do anything about it and I have to pay for the entire month of October. He also said that they require 2 days of notification to vacate the unit while everyone in the actual facility stated they can do the day of and all we have to do is. Even the website allows for same-day of move out. I have given them 4 other renters on top of mine and the district manager didn't care. Now I am stuck paying for 2 units for the month of October 2017, totaling about $330 instead of only the new unit we had set up. Leaving this facility soon. I suggest you all do the same. I walked in a clean facility and was quickly acknowledged by site Manager Tori, What a breath of fresh air. Tori's knowledge & professionalism is one we would like to have everywhere we do business. She signed me up with a storage locker that fit my needs which was spotless and close to exit. Paperwork was explained clearly and questions were answered intelligently. Second time I stopped in Tori was helping another guest and she acknowledges me and remembered what I was in for (Registration Paperwork). Facility is great location for me and up to my standards. People who work in the office are very nice. The amount of paperwork to rent a small unit is silly, but doesn't really matter. They try real hard for you to get insurance kind of like rental car companies. Inside is nice and clean. I use my own lock. Biggest issue I have is that the cart is only available during office hours. I usually go in the evening so then I have to carry everything and it is a pain. read more

So I have a love-hate relationship with this place I love it because it's close to where I live and I feel like I'm paying for convenience however I started off at somewhere around a hundred and now I'm at 2:20 and I'm going to happy about that so I'm looking for other places to store my things. That said however, the staff at work there are just lovely Alex the property manager is just wonderful to work with, super friendly super helpful and a great addition to the place. If the price was consistent and they fixed the keypads on the inside of the facility and that pothole right in front of the driveway, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

The facility is clean, well maintained and staff helpful and friendly. The rates are problematic as I paid more for the smallest unit than I did for one twice the size. They explained rates are lower when no one looking for storage and hiked up in time for moving season and college kid migration. There also is no proration for time not used which I disagree with and got stuck paying for full month when I vacated ten days into the month. read more
