I am writing this review mainly because of Public Storage's deceptive tactics to make money, which are not disclosed when signing up. I rented at this Capitol Hill facility for about 4 months. First, the "$1 for the first month" deal doesn't apply to most units, only a couple at best. Second, they charge for the full month when you leave unless you depart within the first 6 days of the month (so no proration at all, which to me is an undisclosed scam). Last, they charge a sign-up or "adminstrative" fee as well so they're basically bilking users over every last dime (in addition to charging $20+ for a lock). These sorts of practices make me unwilling to ever go back. I wanted to make sure others at least know of all the charges so they can make a better-informed decision before selecting a storage facility. read more

The facility is fine, but access is very limited- no early morning or evening hours. It is expensive, but then this is Capitol Hill!

3 stars for the price. Intro offer says $1, but add in the mandatory insurance, the lock purchase, and other fees and the total is actually closer to $50. Would have been nice to have that info given to me over the phone prior to coming in. However, $50 is still a good deal for the first month! 5 stars for Dodie! She was so super helpful and had a great personality to boot. Even though she was having some computer glitches, she still maintained a positive attitude throughout, cracking jokes, etc. All the employees there were easy going and super helpful. read more

I've lived in Seattle 30+ years and never needed a storage facility. I chose this one primarily for their location. But I was extremely impressed with both Coquita who we worked with and with Cody the on-site manager. They really know what good customer service is all about. Public Storage 1815 12th Ave Seattle, WA 98122 - Perfect location on Capitol Hill (check em out on a map) They are right next door! Ya cant miss em. - Super-friendly staff. Cody, Dodie, Sami, And Michelle. This is my first time getting self-storage and if you get a chance to meet Michelle she'll make the process smooth and help you find the right size unit. (I needed a 10'x15') Did I mention that they are gorgeous too? I'm certain I'll can find extra items on the street to store just so I can see Cody. (Cody is the property manager.) - Secure, private, controlled access to storage facilities. You get a unique code that you have to use to get into the parking garage, then again to get out. Nobody is going to get at my collection of Transformer action figures and spandex workout clothes!!!! - Clean - Giant elevators, and lots of dollies/handcarts for your use to help move your stuff. - They have boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape and other items to keep your things organized and protected for long term storage or just a quick across town move. Cody was very knowledgeable and professional. He got us set up and gave us a tour the facility and explained the operation an how this facility works. Signing up was a breeze and easy and he asked great questions to ensure that the storage space we rented would be the right space for us. This facility lacks Dollys for the use by customers. With over a thousand customer, surely you need more dollys for use. Maybe a set up like shopping carts at grocery stores or baggage carts like at the airports. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. It started with drastically fluctuating prices on the company's website (not the fault of the people at this property, of course, but of the corporation behind it). Once I'd committed to a deal that offered $1 move-in and an $80/month rental cost, I reserved online. I confirmed my check-in appointment time over the phone and arrived the following morning to find the office closed for a company meeting. Had to take a full day rather than a half day off of work because of it. Returned in the afternoon to find that I had to pay extra for insurance and sign-up costs, then was led through the paperwork and to my storage unit by a rather hapless trainee. Nice enough guy, but he clearly wasn't ready to deal with customers. There was much confusion over the key codes and in finding my unit, and the check-in process took almost an hour. Flash forward to the next month, when I received a call saying my payment was overdue. Since I'd checked in on the 20th and the call came in on the 15th, I was confused by this. The woman on the phone said, "Well, payment is technically due on the first, so you owe the pro-rated amount for the remainder of the current month." Needless to say, this was NOT how the billing was explained to me when I moved in. I told her I hadn't even finished my first month of storage and asked how could I already be in arrears. She told me if I vacated the unit before the 20th I wouldn't owe anything, so I told her I'd take her up on that offer and would schedule an appointment to do so, as she said was necessary. I called on the 17th to make an appointment and was told that I should just stop by in the morning to collect my things and check out. Showed up at 10:30 only to find the office closed for another company meeting. read more

Don't drive into the gate when you move in....you will be trapped without any direction on how to get out . Beware!! Like many things in life, it's easy to get in but you might not get out.. And for the two ladies, please don't give them a hard time, they only work there, it's beyond their pay grade to discuss improvement in their signage and warning. I stored my car at this Public Storage for a few months. When I arrived, my car window had been smashed in, two bikes (approximately $3500) were stolen. The men working didn't even know this had occurred. I paid just over $200/month for a "secure" place. When I complained about this, I received a completely useless phone call from management which was infuriating, stating there is nothing that they could to do help me, that they "value security," that "I have never seen a break in in 6 months" and also told me my car must have been broken into the night before I arrived (ironic as I had been away for 5 months). This information was unhelpful and also made me so angry and upset. I will never use this company to assist in my travel nurse lifestyle, and I will ensure any travel nurse I know will not use them either. read more

I love this place. I can't afford to live in a 1 bedroom apartment for no less than $1600 a month so I rent a studio for $1100 and this storage for $100 and I'm lovin' it. Totally worth it - awesome access, nice people, clean, quiet. Love it. read more

NOT WELL MANAGED AT ALL!!! The place is filthy - something that struck me the first time i walked in to the garage. My unit had a very big oily spot in the middle, i had to cover it with cardboard from a bicycle box just to cover it up so i could start loading in. The manager Cody i spoke with about it swore that the unit had been cleaned, as if i was making it all up. The elevators are a huge hassle: they stay open for a few seconds, not allowing time to load stuff in, so you're constantly fighting the elevator doors just to use the thing. The keypad on the north elevator doesn't work well at all, something wrong with it: i repeatedly must enter my code to get it to accept, sometimes as many as 6 times. The carts are kept behind locked doors and available only during the office hours of 9:30 am (a very late start) to 6pm. For about 5 hours of access time, no carts are available 'coz the office is closed and they've got them locked up. There are no doors from which to exit the building without a code - the only way to exit is with the code thru the gate - so if you have a guest in with you and they want to leave, you have to go down with them to let them out. At this time, the toilet has been 'broken' and unavailable for over a month.... Cody the manager is a dunderhead: after moving in i had pulled a lot out so i could organize the stuff back in, and he came along and told me i couldn't have stuff in the hall 'coz it was a fire hazard!!!! As if i could just snap my fingers and it would all organize itself, in place.... The only good things to be said about this place is that it opens early - at 6 am - and it's centrally located in the city, good for those who need frequent access. It's early close at 7:30 is not helpful. read more

I came to this facility and noticed the property was very well maintained compared to some other storage facilities within the Seattle area. I normally do not post yelp reviews but in this case I was pleasantly surprised to receive such excellent customer service. Although I did not sign up for a unit during my visit to this public storage, Cody was very polite and took his time to walk me around the property and show my husband and I several size units. I am preparing for a move soon and he was very patient answering all my questions/concerns. I bought a couple unique size boxes from him and love the mattress cover he recommended! Thanks again! I will be definitely be returning within the next month or two with my movers to sign up for a unit!!! read more

OK, so our storage unit at Public Storage at 1815 12th Ave was broken into and they totally ransacked and stole many items of great value. The manager told us it had been happening to units for a long time, the theives were using a tool to slide in the door behind the locks and click the the doors open. Public Storage hasn't even warned customers that on the outside their units and locks look normal, but inside, they may have a disaster and items stolen.... The worst part is that we asked them to fix the issue of how easy it is to break in. They answered they have changed the hours of the storage units so noone can come in at night?!?! So, we went through our unit to clean it up and find out all that was stolen. We also found the tool they had been using to break into the units!! Also, we asked about cameras, they said no, they are only in certain areas. Not on our floor or at the elevators where someone walked out with a huge suitcase of ours loaded with valued items..... We will be speaking to the general manager. In the mean time, if anyone uses this Public Storage, you might want to check on your unit.... And to other people don't use this Public Storage, your stuff will probably be stolen and the managers don't care. Also while we figure out where to move our stuff, the thieves may come back and get the rest of the baseball cards, etc. since Public Storage won't secure any of the storage unit doors even though they know what the problem is...... read more

They were extremely pleasant and both had a great sense of humor. If I'm ever in the need of a storage unit again or for any moving advice I will definitely know who to call! read more

I used to rent a unit with them for almost a year, and at first, I thought I was misplacing things. But over time, more and more items went missing. I had the best padlock from Public Storage, and it didn't look as though anyone had broken into my unit. I got suspicious and changed units to a different floor. But then soon enough, things started to go missing again. Besides this, I have also been told that other storage renters have also had their things go missing. Put the pieces together yourself and I wouldn't recommend anyone to rent storage units with this facility. read more

Bad customer service. We rented a very large, expensive, storage space and are in the middle of moving and need to get in and out of our space. On the plus side it seems very secure. We have some valuables in the space, which is already almost full. This is Friday afternoon. I was in earlier to find the space totally dark, both ceiling lights out. The gentleman that helped me said that I needed to be there while they put in two new fluorescent bubs, so I told him I would come back later as I couldn't wait around at the moment. I came back late afternoon and the manager, different person, said that they could not change the lights because the ceilings are too high and they are not allowed to go up on a tall ladder. (Note that all of the units, quite a few, on that floor have high ceilings so this must happen regularly ) The manager was not helpful and a little indignant and told me "Well lights go out" He said they had to put in a work order to a company to come do it and reminded me that they use a very busy company. "They have thousands of orders" so he could not say when they might show up. I said I was willing to come back and open up if he would let me know. He said, well they don't do appointments. They come when they can. You could leave your keys here and we'll give you a call when we get the lights changed. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my keys. The company purposely does not keep a second set of keys for their customers. I complained to the manager about this and their lack an expedient fix. He would not take my phone number and told me to call the regional manager, which I did, and whose office is apparently closed on the weekends. If appears I may need to acquiesce and leave my keys and wait at their pleasure but I would call this poor service. read more
