But they have not refunded me for the $700 they overcharged. They continue to make up excuses about new accountants, accountants being on vacation, accountants being hard to work with, etc. They first promised to have it done within 2 weeks. It has now been over 2 months. The movers were great, but the admins were not responsive with returning the money they have overcharged me. I have filed a complaint through BBB and will need to go through small claims court next. EDIT: got paid back after 2 months and the complaint to the BBB, updated to 3 stars since the actual moving service was good, but the burden was all on me for a returning the money.

We rented out a…read morestorage unit as a place to keep some personal keepsakes while we traveled the US. while traveling, we got a call that there's some damage to our unit and water was seen leaking out, however, as we were states away -there was not much we could do aside from send another family member to check but they denied them entry and when we tried to find a work around, they flat out refused to call us back now back in Washington we have made our way back to the storage unit only to discover that there's no record of the repeated calls to speak to the manager and promises that he would return my phone calls, and it's "not their fault" sooo we will absolutely not be recommending them in hopes no one else has to deal with this.. oh and to top it off during the non existent return phone calls we did indeed get an email telling us they were raising everyone's rates.

I rented a unit at 1st Ave Storage for close to 20 years, and management used to be great there (I…read morebelieve Emmet(?) was the longtime manager there, but he left a few years ago). I just recently moved out, as things have gotten shadier and shadier around there. The security/safety around the building has become questionable, especially with the RV camp out back. With that said--the worst part, frankly, is the owner. Charlie is his name, and he basically refused the pro-rated refund that 3 people working at his facility ALL said I would receive. I did a speedy move out April 16, as the manager there told me I could get the pro-rated refund if I cleared my unit out asap, rather than wait until end of month. Great! Sadly, I never received the refund, and even thought the 3 different employees told me I should get it--Charlie apparently refused to follow through, telling his manager "we don't pro-rate". But... all 3 of your employees told me you do...!? When I asked to have Charlie call me directly, I was told Charlie said: "I don't talk to customers directly." I explained I would warn people on Yelp if Charlie doesn't bother calling me back, and his reply (through his employee, since he doesn't talk to customers): Fine, post on Yelp. Additionally, when I rented a U-Haul from them, the gas tank was not even filled. Apparently owner Charlie keeps just a quarter tank in there, claiming it's due to the RV camp stealing gas. But... he will penalize truck renters if they don't return the truck at exactly the maybe kinda quarter-ish level the tank had. Makes it real hard for truck renters to fill up ONLY the amount they use. Hmmm... SO... Be warned. Charlie the owner does not follow through, and frankly does not step up when he should. I moved to another storage facility that provided better rates in a more convenient location... and a safer location. I didn't realize perhaps the best benefit to moving: not supporting a shady owner. I'm giving 2 stars rather than 1 because of the years of good service I had when previous management was great, the place was more secure, and shady business practices didn't impact me. I guess owner Charlie's integrity was lost in parallel with the decline of the community around there :-\ Buyer beware--think twice before using 1st Ave Storage.

I looked around and found a bunch of run down Public Storage and other aging/dingy Seattle facilities, many of them with plywood floors with oil and all sorts of other gross spills, poor security, in sketchy neighborhoods. The clean ones in nicer neighborhoods were super expensive. West Coast Self Storage is a new building, shiny concrete floors, friendly staff, strong security, well kept and spotless front to back. Access to the unit was available everytime I needed it, billing was effortless with auto-pay, and though I recently left now that the remodel is over and I moved my keepsakes back to my house, I know next time I need CLEAN and affordable self storage, I will choose this business. I really hoped this was a storage facility with better business practices than some others, but it…read morehas the same slimy practices as public storage or other notoriously shady ones do. After a few months, they raised my rent by $100 (about a 65% increase from one month to the next) citing market rate changes and a promotional rate ending. I didn't sign up using a 3-month promotional rate. I just used the "online rate" that they compare to the in-store rate which in no way implies that the rate is temporary. They also ask everyone to write shining reviews when you book your unit so it floods their reviews with 5 stars and these reviews get hidden or diluted by all the amazing "booking experiences"...which is not what we're here for. The rent will continue to be increased every few months, so I'll be looking for a more reliable storage location with better business practices.
