This Publix. 1830 Hendersonville Road Asheville NC has a poor selection of products in most categories, the prices are higher then most grocery stores in this area, the clientele are more affluent because the store is located in south Asheville where more affluent people live., the parking lot entrance and exit are or can be dangerous specially by the new Typhoon restaurant is a three way stop not four and not mark to let driver know, I think the store deserves a two star specialty since they have eliminate most of Publux store brands. read more

I really love going to Publix. Everything here is far superior to the other grocery stores in the area. The staff is always friendly. They check the dates on their products daily, you know you're not getting anything expired. You can return anything you get that you don't like...even if the product is gone. The bread is baked fresh all day for sandwiches. Their bakery makes their products fresh in house. Their bread comes in 5 gallon buckets of flour that has to be made and baked. Unlike Ingles who gets frozen bread sticks that have to be thawed out overnight and baked. I know this because I worked in their deli. The sanitation standards are much higher at Publix in the deli. They're constantly cleaning. The meat department, you have to apprentice for a year before you can cut meat. You really have to know your stuff to work in the meat/seafood department. The apron meals are super simple to make. And really fast. If you can't find an item in stock, just let the manager know and they will order it for you and will continue to do so until you stop buying it. Just like my dog and suds root beer. Mmmmmm. A lot of people think that it's more expensive. Some items are. Some are not. However, Ingles pays their employees about $8/hour. Publix pays 10.50+. Meat department makes $15+. Its also employee owned. People can actually retire from Publix and not have to worry about money. Unlike Ingles that is more concerned with making the Ingle family money and doesn't care about its employees. I highly recommend this place! read more

So I live in Sylva NC and I travel to Asheville just to go to certain restaurants and of course to got to Publix. I am never disappointed when I go there. It's always clean and the food is always good. I go there mainly to buy bread. I love their baguettes. I always buy 5 to 10 loaves at a time. I take them home and freeze them. I also like that they have specialty foods. I always experiment at home making things and Publix always has the items I need. I also like the fact I could use the internet in the store so I could read off the menu items I need. They have the best sub sandwiches and I always get one when I'm there. Cuban or Italian are my choices. I top it off with a cannoli and a cup of coffee. Good stuff. But there is one thing I'm missing and that is Aqua Star frozen calamari. The have calamari in the seafood counter but it's a little too small. When you cook them they shrink up to nothing. They have Aqua Star seafood blend but not the calamari. The blend is good but has no teniciles. I love the teniciles. So I wrote to Publix and maybe they will get them and let me know. I'll be waiting and still shop a Publix. read more

As expected walking in, the store was clean, bright and had a buzz in the air. There was a wide variety of products and the deli/seafood counters were very impressive. Normally, if I have every employee ask me if I need help, I get annoyed after the fifth time. When it happened here, it felt different. It felt genuine. I will definitely be going back. We used this Publix for our wedding cake and cupcakes! We had a great experience going in for our tasting, and designing our cake. We ended up having less guests than we originally expected, and changed our cupcake count about two weeks out with no problem. The cake tasted SO GOOD, and was delivered to our venue looking amazing. Do you want to know want to know what real customer service looks like? It looks exactly like Iggy, who is this store's assistant manager. When an item I'd ordered for today was not on the truck, Iggy actually went to a rival store which did have it in stock and purchased it himself so that it would be at Publix when I arrived. I'm on my way there now to pick up and pay for it, or Id've included a picture of Iggy. Then you could look at it and say, "This is a picture of an assistant manager who goes the extra mile. This is a man who takes the words "customer service" very seriously, and puts Publix head and shoulders above the rest." Thank you, Iggy, for going out of your way to obtain for me the item I needl when we all know you could have shrugged and said,"She can get it herself." This is my first time shopping with Publix. I've known of them for quite sometime. I'll say the best day to shop here is on the weekends. The samples are insane here, I love it. I would hope they do more promotions to rival Ingles, because some stuff is on the higher end. That being said, I'm not super impressed with Ingles lately either, and usually shop at Aldis anyway. Service is spot on, can't understate that enough. Overall, you'll spend a bit more, but get it back in quality of product and service. I hope in the future they'll be persuaded to open their application process online. It would seem to me that their (in person) application machines screen out people who may have disabilities or can't stand for long periods of time. read more

I'm from Florida, so when I heard Publix was opening a store here I was pretty excited. The newer stores in the Miami area are beautiful, and I expected this one to be a palace. It's OK. Massive. Clean and well staffed. Nicer than any Ingles I've been in (but not as nice as the Bi-Lo on Smokey Mountain Parkway). Not worth the half hour drive it would take me to get there. The meat counter wasn't impressive. The produce was average. I was expecting something more along the lines of Harris-Teeter, but it looks like they aimed lower than that. Do NOT buy their steaks. I'm talking about Ribeyes. Horrible. Incredibly tough, very cheap cuts of meat. In 40 years of grilling steaks, I have never had worse. I would feed it to my dogs, which is actually what I did. read more

Per my one strike rule, I will never order a sub from Publix again. Ordered Chicken Cordon Blue w/o mayo. When I returned to work, it had mayo all over it. Considering the order confirmation has the "special comments" in a completely separate field, not sure how this was missed, but I will not be throwing away another $10 on a sandwich because someone can't read or doesn't care to make sure it's correct. read more

We have been waiting for Publix to come to Asheville having loved the store in Florida. The bakery has changed quite a bit. The cookie selection is nothing like it used to be. Their bread is good but they have narrowed the selection on that item also. Out of tiramisu, not sure if they still carry it. We used to drive to Greenville for that item. We may go once in awhile for the bread but I doubt we will be shopping here regularly. We get better prices on meat at Harris Teeter. read more

So overall, my rating hasn't changed but just today I've had my first ever "unsatisfactory" experience at Publix. I was checking and had enough items that I would almost certainly need a cart. The young lady putting the items in the cart said "I'll help you out with these", no big deal, they always offer and that is just fine, but as always, I politely replied "Oh no thanks, I've got it", to which she said "No, I've got this"..I was a bit surprised at the way this was delivered so again I said, "No thanks, I really don't need help getting these out". She looked me in the eyes and said "No. I've got this" and began to walk out with the cart........so, whatever, I'm not going to stand here and have an argument with a stranger on whether or not they are pushing my cart out to the car..... When we got to the car and loaded groceries up, she gave me a coupon type thing for a deli salad, for "letting her take them out". It had her name on it so I can only guess that they have some type of incentive program going on but I think the efforts could be better applied elsewhere, other than encouraging employees to "help" patrons, when they clearly don't want it. It occurs to me that I personally find this particularly abrasive as I am not likely one to accept unsolicited "help" whatsoever. If I want your help, I'll ask for it. Don't "make me" let you "help"... I am a grown man, I am very capable of transporting my own groceries. read more

This review is actually about the new stre in Hendersonvile. I often visit nice supermarkets and appreciate what they offer. I certainly expected a new grocery store to be on par. First off I like shopping with a cup of coffee.......I was shocked when one of the employees told me there was none...(he asked me to please complain....said he craves good coffee all day)......then as we shopped, we were amazed at the high prices......Was there a bakery there?? If there was there was certainly no sweet bread in the air. They were handing out chicken in a little cup. It was so dry my wife and I threw it away........on my way out the door I mentioned to the girl at the desk the coffee issue and she looked at me as if I was a complainer.......never again...thanks read more

I was so so so so happy when I saw the sign saying, "COMING SOON: PUBLIX" standing tall next to the newly developed Chipotle off Hendersonville Road. I have heard only amazing things from my friends about the Publix supermarkets they have back home. Unfortunately, it took me a couple months after they opened to actually find the time to visit. But oh my gosh! This place is awesome!!! At first, I was very thrown off by the layout. It seemed a little weird; and by weird I mean that no other grocery store is set up like Publix. However, I have actually learned to really like it. Now, I'll admit, it's hard for me to get all excited about walking into a grocery store because they all pretty much offer the same items now-a-days. However, what I really like about Publix is the quality of their employees. These people are some of the nicest employees I have ever witnessed. On my first visit I might have been in there for 30 minutes and I had two employees ask me how my day was going and three ask me if I needed help finding anything! In addition, they all SMILE. I honestly can't say that I've walked into any other grocery store and seen the employees smile as much as these lovely people do. Also, they're always handing out free samples. I'm not talking about the free samples you see in any other grocery store that are typically stale muffin chunks or old melon slices sitting in a plastic case. NO, they have the friendliest people handing out fresh treats. One day I went in and an employee was scooping out samples of strawberry cheesecake ice cream and handing them out with the biggest smile on his face!! Does it get any better than that? All I can say is, "BRAVO PUBLIX!" I know it may seem a little bit stupid for me to get all hyped up about the newest grocery store, but seriously people, this store is great! I was in Hendersonville on vacation and needed to pick up a cake for my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary (because the kids couldn't get together for their 50th). All the bakeries in town wanted 4 weeks advance notice. Many people I spoke to in the area suggested Publix Bakery. So after researching I decided to order the white cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese icing. It was fabulous! I will be ordering cakes for special occasions from Publix in the future! read more

I have getting chinese from their take out bar pretty regularly. It is pretty good and dependable. Today, surprisingly, they had replaced chinese with Mexican, and are changing cuisine every day, Chinese now only twice per week. The Mexican offerings looked really sub par, not worth even trying, so I had to go elsewhere for dinner. Very disappointing, Publix should stick with what has been consistent. Engle's has a good salad bar, and Fresh Market, even after its ownership change, has some good options. Too bad, I was a loyal customer. read more

Am I the only person who is unimpressed here? Granted, I didn't visit the deli, but I didn't think there was anything special to say about Publix. the selection I would compare to Harris Teeter (nice produce section, bakery, etc.). They don't have EVERYTHING, but they had all we needed that day. However, I did not find the prices to be very good. Huge grocery chains, like Walmart, can offer much lower prices, but I understand wanting to avoid that place. But I find other small grocery chains to offer the same goods as Publix for a lower price. And the employees I found to be annoying! I like good customer service as much as the next person, but this was too much. It felt like we were being followed. One associate would ask if we needed help. We would say no and move on and immediately after another associate would be there to ask if we needed help. We were there for maybe 15-20 minutes and at least 5 or 6 associates approached us during our experience, not including the two we met at check out. The associate bagging our groceries complimented my makeup, which was kind, but then immediately asked me how much it cost...rude! For a number of reasons, we can say with confidence that we will never shop here again. We live in West Asheville, so the location is inconvenient for us. Not only that, but the onslaught of all too eager employees is a deterrent, as well as the underwhelming selection. Sorry, Publix. I'd hoped you were cooler! read more

Public, welcome to Publix. I was in awe the minute I walked in. Clean, bright, and colorful to boot. Decent prices and employees. Impressive kitchenwares. We could even afford a fancy water bottle here. How can one resist petit fours?! I saw them, and two were mine. This place was not messy at all. Anything could be found and had. If you watched local late night tv in Jersey in the mid-nineties, you would see commercials for Val Vasilef's vegetarian products. Well, I am excited to tell you that they are here at Publix, folks! They are called "Health is Wealth". This place had obscure products that can only be scored here- "Ellio's Pizza", chicken "Steakums", and "Bell and Evans" chicken were three other frozen products that I saw. And "Essie" polish. Yes, you read that right! I looked for "eos" lip balm to round that ecstasy out, but I did not see it. And my fave was seen- dry ice! I have some kind of obsession with frozen stuff...a frozen fetish, if you will? Anyway, if you enjoy eating or freezing, get to Publix. read more

Omg~ this store is right from heaven... Employees look like they like working there, courteous friendly and ever so helpful. Food is fresh, stock is rotated meticulously, Sample foods are delicious, I love the Chinese deli with hot food for takeout, I actually had a checkout person directly to his register instead of waiting in a line. I can't tell you one employee that did not have a smile on their face. They have a sitdown area to eat with Wi-Fi. Big wine and cheese selection and can you believe they even have a drive-through pharmacy at a Publix. The seafood selection is outstanding. So much nicer than my experience at the fresh market and I love the choice of getting reasonably priced Publix products.How will the recipients family know that we gave the donation as I went to this website and there is no way to acknowledge the death of the person that you are sending the money about You've got to get this Publix a try! My first visit to Publix, but definitely not my last. Every employee I encountered was extremely pleasant and helpful. The gentleman working the fish counter was very informative and I LOVE that the fish department get fresh fish daily. While there, I visited the flower department and baking counter where both employees were so pleasant. During self check out, Nancy assisted and was gracious to obtain weekly flyer and additional store information for me. I had to ask if the store was new, since all employees were so nice and the store was so clean, but learned it has been there for well over a year. Though I have several grocery stores much closer, I will travel to Publix for my shopping. read more
