What to say about this place? It is small and does not have a wide variety. There are panhandlers in the front. But, the cashiers are really friendly. Maybe it's because I'm there 5 out of 7 days in the week. Who knows? It's Publix so if you are familiar with their prices, it's about the same: higher than most grocery stores. Although, their B1G1 sales are the best. They recently had a little upgrade to their decor so it's not as shabby. If it wasn't in walking distance, I probably wouldn't frequent here as much. But, it does the job for the most part. I just wish it were bigger and had more of a variety. read more

This is colloquially referred to as the Publix on Piedmont. It's a smaller version of it's more toney cousin, Publix on Ponce, but with a much different crowd. There are folks who are struggling, hurried young professionals and Georgia Tech/GSU students. The aisles are small and the selection is decent, but it is not a Publix in the sense of a great shopping experience. Partly because it is small and partly because the store is setup up with fewer of the employees you'd expect. So there's no super nice lady that makes food like at the East Lake Publix. There's no super nice cashiers willing to engage in a long conversation like the Publix on Piedmont, it's not pristine like the Publix on North Decatur. But what it is is a quick fast place to shop if you are in Midtown. If you are looking for a bigger nicer store, then the one on 9th and Spring is your place. I don't really think this is a bad Publix - I like it once I am inside. It's a nice store, a little older than some of the others around town, but it has good products and nice produce and all those things that Publix stores are known for. The things I don't like, which take stars away from its rating, are that the parking lot attracts some questionable people and also that the cashiers are often not very friendly. The produce guys are nice, though, and they do have a good-sized produce section. Sometimes the parking lot can be annoyingly busy with lots of cars backed up in the little loop of parking in front of Publix - patience is helpful here. read more

Every time I see the commercial for Publix that says "Where shopping is a pleasure" I think they must not shop at this particular Publix. Yes, it's a grocery store and yes, it's within walking distance for me which is why I come here. The store itself isn't very clean on the inside or the outside. You just feel like it's kind of grimey. They don't carry a lot of the products that I would normally buy so I'm kind of limited when I decide to come here. There are usually panhandlers hanging around the parking lot and although they normally don't bother me, there are times when they're outright annoying and pushy. Sometimes there is a cop who seems to be part of security but it doesn't help. I once saw a guy with a shirt that said security who was clearly not security. Since I frequent this Publix, I called a couple of years ago because my company was having a function and we needed a couple of food trays on relatively short notice (within four hours). I called and spoke with the deli person (a female but I don't remember her name) who told me she was leaving at 5:00 and didn't have time to do it. What? I get that we didn't have an order pre-made but to tell me you're leaving is not good customer service. She said I could speak with the manager and I told her that would be fine. I told him what we needed (two sandwich trays and a cheese tray) and he said that they did not have time to do it because she was leaving at 5:00. OK! So I called the Publix on Howell Mill and they said, "No problem! Come on up!" OK! So THANK YOU to Publix on HOWELL MILL for accommodating our needs on such short notice. Btw, the Howell Mill store is very clean and they have more products. There are a couple of cashiers who do a great job and who are efficient but the rest of them act as if you're a huge inconvenience because you're interrupting their conversation with the checker next to them or the person who bags the groceries. Some of the conversations are downright unacceptable for public. Seriously. I don't care who your friend is f'ing and what his baby mama said. I really don't. read more

I frequent Publix at Atlantic Station because it's on my route home from work but today, I went to Publix on Piedmont because it's closer to my house. I called them around 8:23pm to see what time the seafood department was open until and a Ryan answered giving me necessary contacts to reach the seafood department. I spoke with Kia who was working the seafood department at the time and asked if she could place two pieces of fresh salmon to the side because I was en route but wouldn't make it when they closed (8:30pm) and I arrived right at 8:45pm where Kia was closing up but already had the salmon packaged and ready to go for me. She was sweet and it was a simple gesture that went so far for me, she could have easily said no or discarded it because I arrived 15minutes after their hours of operation. Through a miscommunication my husband and I ended up at this Publix and not our usual. Had I been by myself, I would have left. We were followed by a guy who was completely skyed out. Passed by a couple shopping who smelled as if they just put the bong down and a homeless guy wouldn't take No for an answer to helping us with his umbrella to load our car. There is a reason this is the first Publix I've ever seen with an in-store police officer roaming around. This store is also laid out very differently than many others making it hard to find my usual items. I picked up a pack of jerky that was sticky and then I noticed a sticker that said 'Damaged item, do not reshelf'. Many of the produce, dairy and meat items were past the expiration date or really close to it. The meat section had many items that had a Sale item placard on the shelf but the prices didn't match those on the actual product. Overall, this is a no go. read more

Good Publix with great service. Lavera is always great at checkout and there is always a good amount staff working the lines. My only problem is they are out of rotisserie chickens a lot of the time when I come which changes my whole dinner plan. read more

I'm from South Florida and I have never really been to a "dirty" Publix. We stopped in to grab some water during a long walk and I was a bit shocked when I walked in. The area around this Publix does not seem safe. On the corner a prostitute was asking every man that walked by if they were interested, I am not exaggerating. It made me and my friend VERY uncomfortable. The inside was not much better. The service was excellent, just like I am used to. read more

This Publix has been going downhill fast over the past 6 years I've lived near it. When they don't have an APD officer outside, the aggressive pan handlers come out in numbers! Management doesn't seem to have a handle on this store. I've heard so many in appropriate conversations between employees making me feel uncomfortable. Several times items were not put in my bag, forcing me to return. Inventory is hit or miss, sadly with what I look for, it's usually a miss. I've brought issues to customer service multiple times over the years and they do nothing. Every other publix in the world carries Coffeemate non dairy fat free creamer but this publix! Every time the cashier asks "did you find everything you need?" I answer no and explain or they ignore the fact that I said no!. Well I'm done explaining and I'll go somewhere else. read more

Worst Publix in the country? Possibly. I have never been to another Publix (or any other business for that matter) where 75% or the customers consistently use the wrong door when entering and exiting said business. Do you idiots drive on the left side of the road too?! What is wrong with you? You enter through the RIGHT side door & exit through the RIGHT side door when you're looking directly at your through way. Like anywhere else! Not that difficult. And now, management has decide to appease these morons by placing shopping baskets at the actual exit. I can tell they're trying to improve things here, but I constantly see a bunch of suits standing around doing nothing while lines are too long & they're doing NOTHING to alleviate those lines. This is always the dirtiest most unprofessional location I've ever been to. Had I not passed the other Midtown location I would not have set foot in this place. It never improves. Trash on the floor, cases full of crumbs and smudges, dirty aprons, unclean appliances and the list goes on. I feel like I will get food poisoning from eating here. I also don't enjoy listening to the women of the deli bicker and yell at each other while they snack on food and pretty much refuse to help people because all of them feel they are busier than the rest. This has been our neighborhood Publix for 8 years, but never again. A lot of the clientele have been a bit sketchy, but the cashiers have always been nice. A pick-pocket stole my iPhone yesterday while I was picking out goldfish for my toddler... I thought it was weird that the guy got so close to me to pull some goldfish off the shelf, in such a hurry to get a pack, and yet didn't take advantage of the BOGO offer. It wasn't until I got home and couldn't find my phone that I realized what had happened. I've been to major cities around the world and have never had an issue. How sad and pathetic that it happened at my own grocery store a few blocks from my house. I'm not going to shop here anymore. read more

I'm a fickle grocery store shopper with a fear of commitment. I'll spend six months devoted to Trader Joe's, before deciding they just don't meet my needs and switch allegiances completely. For the past month, Publix has been my steady grocery store. This one is a baby store, with abbreviated aisles and counters featuring only the highlights of your typical Publix. Don't fear, they still have the delicious sandwich counter (that blows Subway out of the water) and the best grocery store sushi, there's just a little less to chose from. However, if you're a shopper who sticks to the perimeter of the grocery store (ie avoids the processed foods located towards the center of every grocery store), Publix is the place. Their meat selection is the best there is, with gorgeous, high quality cuts at very reasonable prices. It also seems like the butcher here knows his clientele, as steaks and chicken breasts are often packaged in single serving portions. Produce here is limited, but it's always of high quality and has a long shelf life. I also love Publix brand frozen vegetables. They're the only brand of frozen broccoli that I actually think tastes as good as fresh (same with the brussel sprouts). Oh yeah, about the homeless people and shifty characters that roam the parking lot...meh. I love Publix (for now) and am willing to put up with it. I just wouldn't come here late at night alone. read more

I love Publix and this is the closest Publix to me, but this is not my favorite. I come here when I'm too lazy to drive to the one off Spring St. The selection is not what you'd usually expect at a Publix and I'm usually harassed by someone begging for food or money when I come to this location which really irks me. The most irritating thing is, they have panhandlers outside and there's usually a police officer or security guard standing outside, who do NOTHING!!! I agree with David, shopping is not a pleasure at this location and I don't come here to do my full-on grocery shopping. The Publix is still the grocery store to get the best customer service. This one is conveniently located but the parking is small.

Location is understaffed and poorly managed. Extremely long lines regardless of the time a day . The manager takes no accountability for appropriately staffing his own location. As the customer it makes no difference to me how many callouts you had I should not have to wait 25 minutes in the deli line to get a deli sandwich and then you have the nerve to have cashiers working in your deli that are not trained on how to make sandwiches , they're not following company protocol policy and procedure. If you're going to put employees in other roles of the store to alleviate long wait times then they need to be properly cross trained on how to do all jobs within the store you're not alleviating the issue by putting a cashier in the deli to make sandwiches when she does not know what she's doing the lady did not know how to cut bread she did not know where the meats were stored or how to cut meat using the proper equipment. It's took her 15 to 20 minutes to make one sub meanwhile the line is extremely long . She's acting all frazzled and frantic saying I'm a cashier I don't know how to do this making a sloppy sandwich ingredients falling all out the side of the sandwich . it was a total mess. The deli is great here, you really get a feel for Atlanta and its culture standing in line speaking with other customers and the employees. The food is always great, if you like down south food; Mac n chz, collard green, black eyed peas, fried chicken, and pork roast...you'll love the ready to eat selection here! read more

We live near Peachtree Center when visiting Atlanta. This is the market closest to our stay by walk, you only get very limited choices of vegetables or seafood. And so expensive, for example $4.99/IB Asparagus, $15.99 for a very small piece of Halibut to name a few. So limited options and high price. read more

Today, marks the 3rd time visiting this location. If you're hoping for traditionally good service, experienced in other locations; don't get your hopes up. I have yet to witness any of the deli employees deliver service with a smile and inviting tones. It is extremely offputting to be questioned regarding my request to have my meat and bread properly handled when preparing a sub. Everyone should have the right to request that their meat and bread not be placed on a contaminated surface where I witnessed a used towel, Items in containers, and other miscellaneous items. After my third request was challenged I immediately informed the agent that I was no longer interested in not only purchasing the sub but I left the store completely. I have complained before to the manager about the poor customer service to no avail. I am saddened that I have to drive to other locations just to receive proper service now that I live within walking distance of this location. Publix, just like Chick-fil-A is known for their great customer service and fresh products. I'm not sure what's going on at this location but the operations need to be reviewed quickly. read more

I recently broke my ankle and using crutches. Of all the places I have been with a cast/boot/crutches, Publix was the most accommodating business. The first employee I came into contact with helped explain how to use the electric wheelchair. Less than 15 feet into the store, another employee grabs my crutches to keep while I shop. Each person that sees me stops to ask "what can I help you with?" Not "can I help you?" Then while in the dairy section, I'm looking for cottage cheese. Someone stocking the area asked me the same question. I replied that I'm just looking for cottage cheese. He starts naming brands, sizes, prices, shows them to me, tells me the best value for size/price. I didn't even ask for help and he took it upon himself to make the search in a wheel chair a bit easier. Once I'm in the check out line, the same person who held my crutches brought them back to me before I even noticed he was nearby. Thank you Publix for making my life a little bit easier! read more

This is the worse Publix I've ever been to. Going in there one day, there was a naked homeless man in the parking lot taking a sponge bath. The store and the area around it are full of questionable people. In addition, the parking lot is small and always full of traffic, so it takes a long time to park. The aisles are cramped and the store is small, and it doesn't carry some things that most other locations have. The setup of the whole store is confusing and makes no sense, and it's very difficult to find anything. The only good thing I have to say about this location is that the checkout people were usually very friendly, but it's worth driving a couple extra miles to avoid this place. read more

Lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years and have shopped this particular location since the day it opened. Part of the problem with this location is the Pine Street Homeless Shelter. (thanks, Anita Beaty) Because of the proximity to the shelter, this location experienced a high percentage of in-store theft as constantly hang around the store. To help with these issues, the store manager has hired a APD police officer to monitor, however getting in and out of the store can be a bit intimidating unless you are used to it. I also believe that Publix Corporate is not going to make any serious upgrades to this location because of the narrow profit margin - the store is just able to bring in revenue that would make upgrades worthwhile. As a result, this store has less than premium products, especially fresh produce, dairy, fish and meats. I shop there regularly, but only for essentials, as the store seems out of basic items semi-regularly, or the items are just not on the shelves. When I ask about certain items I am always told "they are still on the truck" or "the truck is not here yet". I might as well go to Whole Foods or Kroger and save myself a trip. Until the shelter closes, I just don't see this situation changing. Old 4th Ward will continue to suffer until then. read more
