Publix is an Amazing supermarket chain. When in South Florida that was our store. I am so tired of Ingles controlling every piece of land or site available so that Publix wont come to Franklin. This was a great store at first. Over time, they have raised their prices so much, it is like shopping at Whole Foods. The Greenwise brand is excellent but it is hardly ever on sale anymore. It may be time to begin the search for another store that has organic food. read more

I'm still crying as I type this, I have never been so humiliated. We've been shopping at Publix for three decades, and I knew Carol Barnett personally, but i will never again return to THIS location-despite the sincere apologies from the very kind store manager and a very sympathetic CSR Savannah - because ONE rotten apple employee. After a fabulous afternoon birthday tea with friends, I popped into Publix Waynesville. The lines were long, so I opted for self-checkout. Packing bags , I was admittedly was slow and deliberate as I am not good at "bagging". I also looked to note that items were being rung up properly (ex. BOGO) so it probably took me about 5 minutes to ring up a full trolley of goods and pack them. As I was placing the receipt into my purse and preparing to vacate the spot, an employee came up and loudly announced that she "did not see me ring up my paper towels" and demanded the receipt. This is something that she HAS THE TECHNOLOGY to check without uttering a word to me. It was an obvious attempt at public humiliation (why?). Several people put their head on a swivel to see the drama of someone loudly being accused of shoplifting paper towels. I wanted to crawl under the register and die, but I could only manage to hand her the receipt and put my head down. After the employee saw her obvious mistake, she only said "okay, thank you" and handed me the receipt back. I asked the monitor standing nearby "why" she did that, to which she gave no reasonable explanation. I barely made it to my vehicle before I broke out in tears and phoned my husband, who instructed me to return all the groceries immediately. I will give credit where credit is due and say that both Savannah and the store manager on duty were very sympathetic and understood how in this very small town, this would be utterly humiliating. They apologised profusely and the manager even offered to walk me and my groceries (that I didn't return) back to my vehicle. Regardless, the embarrassement of being falsely accused in such a way as to shame me publicly - when I did absolutely nothing wrong, has forever ruined shopping at the Waynesville Publix. This is an amazing supermarket. I live on the west coast, consequently Publix Super Markets aren't available to me. I was here as a tourist and I needed a few things from the market and Publix was right there, so I went in and I was blown away by the cleanliness, spacious aisles, and selection of products available. Food, dry goods, and drugstore items are all available. Grocery stores are not my favorite stores to go into, but this visit was a treat. I like it very much. read more

I have been a Publix shopper since 2005. I used to shop them exclusively! However since they opened in waynesville NC my experience has been varied and best! They ruined two important cakes for my daughter's shower and did not offer to make it right! That was upsetting but recently I was shopping and the manager on duty was rude! They had one lane open on Friday night and self checkout! He Was on a register but the light was off. I asked if he was still taking customers and he looked and me and said no very rudely! He then walked to the office and let the multitude of guests wait in a very long line. Did not get his name. Caucasion, very heavy set dark hair. This was Friday the 21st at around 5:30 pm.! All our favorite brands, consistent prices and even some local craft brands of hot sauce, wing-sauce, barbecue sauces. Publix is now here in Waynesville, and open to the public. And what a sight to see. This is an award winning company, and it shows. The parking lot is cozy. Sagebrush dug in their spurs, and refused to sell their land to Publix. Publix may like that fact, because a smaller lot feels friendly. The inside is too much. I walked right up to the free sample of pecan coffee cake. By the time I had rejoined my husband, he had already finished his. I saved mine for my Ronni. I gazed at shiny apples, turned down hummus with chips, and dreamed about what soup I wanted. There was no time to dream on, so I went on to convenience food. I could not decide on that. I kept staring at the pot roast, and I do not eat beef. I saw some old friends- deviled eggs. I grabbed them, and discovered that I could not find small salads. My warden-husband moved me on, and my world of dashing color and warm scents had to be abandoned. The aisles were commercial clean and perfect as a Stepford wife. I wanted it all. Especially the Corelle plates. They were fresh with abstract lines that bisected my desire and need. There were little steaks being fried for Hawaiian rolls. I got Publix brand limited edition ice cream . I did not save that for my Ronni. We did self check out. We had a coupon for five bucks off our order, and got a free reusable bag to boot. Everyone was friendly. Did I mention that Publix gives to charities? They do. Some things we could not afford. Publix might have to come down a dollar on their brand of ice cream if they want to totally convert us. It was bit tough getting out of there, and my husband had to go rogue to get out of there. That requires one to act like they are driving in Philadelphia. My eggs had no paprika on them. I realized that fact hours later. Publix will have to put paprika on those eggs to please this half-Hungarian hobbit. So, the rumor became reality- Publix was built for the public. Nevermind the slightly neutral newspaper stories and the teenage rumors of past happenings on Frazier Street that haunt bored minds. Publix is open, and I am hungry. read more

I have had a lot of patience in the past year hoping they would work out the staffing issues, but no matter when you go, plan to wait. The front-facing staff is so, so, so slow and either incapable or ill-trained, it is hard to tell which. Half the time they don't have the pricing right and you have to ask....Most time I ask, it comes back cheaper because they did not use insurance and/or good RX. Did I mention because it is a small pharmacy, you will experience a barrage of texts and voicemails as soon as it is ready and many times when you arrive, it still isn't. I'm looking for a new pharamacy. read more

Although I love the store itself, and do all my shopping there, and the pharmacy has been my pharmacy for years, I was shocked with an experience I had when picking up a prescription. They claim to use goodrx.com for their pricing, but when I went to pick up a prescription for $4, they were going to charge me $8, until I told them, Goodrx had it for $4. The girl waiting on us checked it and concluded I was correct and changed the amount. When I asked her why Publix didn't have the right amount, she said that they change prices often (My doctor had just called it in an hour before that, and I had just looked at Goodrx myself. When I relayed this information, she told me the staff there didn't have time to check as they were too busy. I am writing is to say - BUYER BEWARE! Know your price before you do. read more

A friend from the south had raved about Publix. So when Publix opened a new store in Waynesville NC, we looked forward to shopping there. We were severely disappointed. The staff was VERY friendly - a 5 for service. But both my wife and I were stunned by the odd layout, and the thin selection of items from national brands. The rest of the operation rates a resounding 2. Ingles must have known in advance that Publix was coming because they built a huge addition and now appears to have everything including the proverbial kitchen sink. Go across the street to Ingles - don't waste any time on Pubix. Note: We live in the Midwest and neither Ingles nor Publix have stores anywhere in our state. read more

I was so excited to hear about Publix opening up in Waynesville, NC Today I went there Hoping to find Escarole. I live in Bryson City and Ingles there does not always have it. Publix had it at $4.00 a head but it was all browned. I asked if there was any in the back that was not so brown, but no such luck. I would have paid the $4.00 a head even though I used to get it in Ct. at $.99 ahead in Ct. ( not Brown). So disappointing! I hope you will come up with better standards, Also inculde some baby Frisee in your produce dept. read more

Stopped by this afternoon to pick up some items for Labor Day weekend. I always read the weekly ads and pick up items that I need and that are on sale. Let me preface my remarks by saying, I was a loyal Publix shopper in Florida and was ecstatic when the new store opened in Waynesville. Sadly in order to get that Publix feeling I have to go back to Florida. Today (8/28) I was in the produce section and asked where the sweet corn (10 for $3) was to a middle age man stocking the shelf. He directed me to a small shelf on the wall containing maybe 10 ears of corn, I asked is that it? His reply was terse and "that's all we have"! He then turned and walked away with his push cart into the back room. REALLY? This is the customer service and attitude that Waynesville Publix employees now have toward their W. Carolina patrons? The more I thought about it I should have went to the manager but didn't. This is the second time a Publix employee has been curt (the bakery screwed up a special order) and I let that slide. Twice now in a span of 6 weeks Publix employee's have been borderline rude. I believe the problem here is there are not enough people working there who are buying in to the Publix brand. I will still shop this store but not exclusively anymore. Obviously I need to rethink my loyalty to the Publix brand.......at least here in Waynesville read more

As a new resident of Western North Carolina I was overjoyed when I heard that Publix was going to open in Waynesville. I grew up in Florida and shopped only at Publix because of how service oriented, clean the stores are and how friendly everybody who works there is. So, when I stopped in after work I had to pick up a few items and knew the Publix would have what I needed. I approached the produce section and found the limes and was looking for the jalapeños and couldn't find them. The bin was empty. I noticed an employee approaching with boxes of produce to put on the shelves and inquired if maybe he had some jalapeños in his boxes. He looked at me and said, " Nope, maybe tomorrow." I was in a hurry so I did without the jalapeños and paid for the other items in my basket. All the way home I kept thinking that that employees response was so not the norm at Publix Supermarkets. Employees usually bend over backwards to help you find what you need. And if they don't have it they will get it or order it and are very apologetic when it's not available. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. Maybe the employee had a bad day. I don't know. I just know that the employee's response was not how founder George Jenkins would want his employees to treat customers at his stores. read more
