Puesto is always a go-to date night spot. The food never disappoints (and they always seem to have something brand new every time we come), but the service is what sets this place apart from other restaurants! Tonight, our server, Noah, made sure to always check in on us and even when our food seemed like it was taking a bit longer than expected, he was there--quick to provide us updates that he's actively checking on it for us. The constant communication and check ins made us feel like a priority. We truly appreciated feeling seen! We're definitely coming back (there's no doubt about that), but we're going to be hoping to have Noah as our server the next time we're back. Thanks again, Noah! read more

Disappointing Service tonight guys. Have been going for years but might take a break from visiting for a while. Ordered drinks as soon as we sat and watched the drinks sitting at the bar without any help from our service person. Finally our food came out and I asked the gentleman if he could check on our drinks since our service person wasn't being attentive. Service person finally came back to ask if we needed anything and my wife asked for some more chips. Our service person said of course and never returned until bringing our bill. I'd been here once a couple of years ago for a friend's birthday, but recently another friend organized a Taco Tuesday dinner, so I had the chance to come back. My friend made the reservation since there were eight of us, and I'm glad she did. The restaurant is large, but it gets very busy on Taco Tuesdays. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation, especially if you're coming with a bigger group. The atmosphere is lively, fun, and very family-friendly. They have plenty of seating, making it a great spot for birthday dinners or larger gatherings. As for the food, I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered just two tacos: the carnitas and the grilled shrimp. The portions are decent--not tiny, but not huge either. If I had my normal appetite, I probably would have ordered three. Both tacos were good overall. The carnitas had great flavor, although it was a little too salty for my taste. I also wish the grilled shrimp taco had a few more toppings, such as shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, or other fresh vegetables to add a little more texture and freshness. I did appreciate that they use organic blue corn tortillas. The biggest downside, in my opinion, is the regular pricing. At around $12-13 per taco, I personally think they're overpriced. Taco Tuesday, when they're half off, is definitely the way to go. The rest of the menu also seemed pretty expensive, with bowls priced around $30, which felt a bit high for a casual Mexican restaurant. Our server was excellent. One thing I especially appreciated was that he automatically brought separate checks for everyone without us even asking. I know many restaurants either don't like splitting checks or won't do it for larger groups, so that thoughtful gesture made the experience much smoother. They also have a happy hour, so between that and Taco Tuesday, I'd definitely come back. I probably wouldn't pay full price, but for their specials, it's a fun place with a great atmosphere, good service, and solid food. The biggest challenge is definitely parking. The shopping center has a huge parking lot, but it's shared with so many restaurants and businesses that it still took me a while to find a spot on a Tuesday evening. read more

I just saw an Instagramer who suggested to skip this restaurant while in San Diego. But my experience was great service and food. Drinks are fancy but a little on the higher side. A good time to go is Happy Hour from 3-5 weekdays. They have $10 margaritas and other drink options. The Happy Hour food menu offers mini burritos, flautas, and more! Our server was Casey and he was super nice! It was busy, but he took care of us demanding old ladies with a smile and he went out of his way to assist us. He's the difference between my 4 and 5 star review. I heard the best time to go is on Taco Tuesdays with half priced tacos. I visited at 3pm on Tuesday for half off Taco Tuesday. All the tacos had a blue corn tortilla which was soft and had a nice mild flavor. Lobster taco had tender lobster full of delicious lobster flavor. Beef short rib taco had tender shredded short rib. Tons of flavor. Filet mignon was tender and juicy with tons of delicious flavor. The 3 tacos were all delicious but the filet mignon was my favorite. I was impressed by how flavorful and well seasoned the meats were. 3 tacos was the perfect number to fill me up. All around enjoyed my experience at Puesto! Highly recommend going to their website and joining the taco club, if you add them to your contacts as instructed you get a free taco! I got a free lobster taco (score!) it was really good. Great tortilla, sauce, and topped with onion crispies that really tied it all together. All the salsas from the flight were good, but their classic molcajete salsa was the best in my opinion. None were very spicy but all had good flavor. Short rib quesabirria taco was good as well. These are pretty decent sized tacos but I find them to be pretty expensive for the size. They do fill it with a good amount of meat though! Caesar salad was 6/10, only thing we didn't love, just needed a squirt of citrus is all. Margaritas were great, service was quick and friendly. We loved the outdoor dog friendly patio, super cute and cozy out there. Overall, will absolutely be back, especially for taco tuesdays where tacos are half price from 3pm-close ! read more

Sat at the bar cause I was only there for a quick taco snack, they have a great World Cup tie in menu that's supportive of a sports non-profit + in partnership with other local SD restaurants. I got the octopus. The octopus piece was much buggger than I expected, cooked perfectly and was great with the sauce. The crispy cheese was a bit over powering for my taste, but still good. We were very excited to give Puesto a try but sadly it did not live up to the expectations. We tried 5 different tacos with the side of rice & beans. The server really hyped up the tacos and said that is their specialty. He suggested the best ones but once they came out the tortillas were cold and hard. The shrimp taco was well flavored but came with only two small pieces of shrimp. You would think if you're paying $12 for a single taco you would get a little bit more filling. The rice and beans were good, flavorful, and at least they weren't cold. They do also provide complementary chips and salsa which, the salsa was delicious, really flavorful with a nice spice to it. Our server was really friendly and the ambiance was so nice inside. Stopped by Puesto Mission Valley for dinner. Loved the modern, eclectic vibe of the restaurant. Our server was attentive and provided great service throughout the meal. We ordered the Short Rib Birria Bowl and the enchiladas, and both dishes were very good. While the food and service were enjoyable, the prices were hard to justify for what you actually get. The enchiladas were $32 and didn't even come with sides, and a single taco was $12. Although everything tasted good, the overall value simply didn't match the high prices. It's so funny don't come here very often as you can see, but it's alway inconsistent when we come. Maybe it was because it was a big holiday this time? We came for Mother's Day. It was 8 of us and we were seated right away with our reservation. Service was nice. We got our drinks and put in our orders. Ok. I remember the fillet tacos, so I ordered 2 of those w/ some rice on the side. All of us ordered tacos except 2 people with us. They ordered the shrimp bowls. We also got a couple guac flights to share. Loved those! After a while, all the people who ordered tacos got their tacos. The waitress said the bowls would be delayed 10 minutes because they are cooking the rice. I canceled my side of rice at that time. All of us finished all our food about 45 mins in and still the two bowls had not come out. I asked the waitress about it and she said they were still cooking the rice and I let her know that it was a long time and she just turned around while I was still talking and walked away. Someone else came to the table a while later to bring the bowls w/o the rice and said there was still no rice but they would not charge for the bowls. Haha hey at least they comped it, but I just didn't understand the rice thing? I have to say, my filet tacos were amazing though! Both guests that ate the shrimp bowls said that they were delicious even w/o the rice. I wish they would've just brought it out w/o rice sooner and had a little of less of an attitude or communicated better. I try not to sweat the small stuff, I really didn't let it ruin our beautiful mother's day. I just think it could've been handled better. Maybe a learning opportunity. The restaurant is beautiful inside, the food was incredible, and the service was excellent! The salsa was watered down and hardly any flavor. The chips were broken to pieces so it was hard to dip into the salsa. If you want spicier salsa... ask for the habanero one. I enjoyed my Tamarind Shrimp and Steak tacos, while my dining companion raved about his Chicken Al Pastor. I especially appreciate that Puesto offers this non-pork Al pastor version. On the sweet side, the house made horchata is super creamy and topped with a fragrant cinnamon layer, and the pistachio tres leches cake is a texturally well balanced, generously portioned must try. Food was exceptional. We sat outside on the glorious patio. The chips and salsa were delicious and the salsa was fire roasted, the best kind. The tacos were served à la carte for $10 each and with no sides. I was not hungry despite being dinner time so I ordered one veggie taco and a side of cilantro rice and black beans for $4. They were perfect. Menu says ordering 3 is ideal but I say 2 and the sides is a great meal. We all three ordered different tacos and even my celiac friend was able to eat ! Decided to stop by as it was Tuesday which they have tacos 50% off from 3 pm til close. Little disappointed they didn't do any drinks for happy hour as well, but that can be for another day. I ordered the crispy chicken ( chicken Milanese) and fried baja fish taco. There was a slight hiccup with my order and it had to be made fresh again. I greatly appreciate that, but it did take some time for the initial order to come out. As I had the dairy removed from the tacos I think it affected the flavor. It was my son's birthday, and he was on a mission for the best taco of his life. When I told him I didn't know where to find "the best," he grinned and said, "I don't care--just get me a chicken taco." We ended up at Puesto in Mission Valley, a spot we'd been eyeing for a while. I went with the filet mignon and lobster tacos (they recommend ordering three), while my son got the El Paso chicken taco. At $14-$19 per taco, it's definitely on the pricier side, but the flavors delivered. The filet mignon and lobster were rich and delicious, and my son declared his spicy El Paso chicken taco one of the best he's ever had. The atmosphere was lively and fun--perfect for a Friday night. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive. Even though it was a bit of a splurge, it was a great birthday experience. Yesterday, I went to Puesto with my hubby for lunch. Mind you I didn't* check the menu in advance, I urge you to do that to see the prices. This Mexican restaurant is way more upscale and pricier than expected. Our server was perfect. We told him it was our first time here and of course I forgot his name. He gave us a run down of the menu and food and drink recommendations. I asked if the filet mignon taco could be cooked well down he said yes and I freaked out. I was pleased with the news lol. The spicy marg was so good with yuzu. The taco had me at a loss for words. So much flavor and spice obsessed: signature crispy melted cheese, avocado, pistachio serrano salsa (contains nuts). My husband got quesabirria and grilled shrimp tacos. I would recommend getting 2 tacos since the chips and salsa will fill you up. He recommended 2-3 tacos for the meal. Chips were crispy and salsa was flavorful. You know how some places have bland salsa. Anyway it's a vibe here but we spent $62 without tip for 3 tacos and 1 marg. Ambiance- 8/10, food-8.5/10, service 8-/10 The restaurant is big! It was a busy night at Puesto and I am glad we made reservations. Our waiter, Victor V, asked us if this was our first time, to which we both answered yes, however he disregarded our answer and went straight to ask us what qe wanted to order. We had a game plan to order a few items so we can try as much as we could. We ordered: Potato tacos, Passionfruit and Mango shrimp ceviche, Crudo Verde, their taco plate ( this includes 3 tacos, a side of rice and beans) we asked for their chicken taco, tamarind shrimp taco and Huitlacoche taco. We did not get the chicken taco, instead we got an al pastor taco. For our drinks we tried the cucumber margarita and horchata. Out of all the dishes hands down my favorite was the crudo. Its was just the right amount of spicy and acidic. My second favorite were the potato tacos, the came with two dipping sauces, a tamarind and a green spicy one. If you like spicy..this is the sauce for you! It was a good experience and we will be going back, next time we plan on sitting at the barand have a few drinks. I started with a margarita, and we got the trio of Guacamole. The mango and pomegranate guacamole were delicious, overall a great appetizer. I got three tacos, a mushroom, chicken, and al pastor. They were served on fresh corn tortillas, although the tortillas were good the food was average. The protein and veggies were chewy on each taco. At the end of the meal we got the churro sundae, it lacked flavor and was mostly vanilla ice cream with a churro, there needed to be more chocolate or even more caramel sauce.
