While on vacation with my kids and parents we wanted tacos for our last meal before leaving San Diego. I searched and this place kept coming up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is unassuming as it's so spacious compared to what you see from outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server Elizabeth was very accommodating and friendly. She was attentive to my kids which I appreciated. The kids had burritos and chicken quesadilla and I had the chicken flautas which were yummy. The portions are very large as they come with rice and beans. My parents had tacos that they enjoyed as well. We had a great experience here and would recommend this to people who are visiting San Diego.
Went here on a Saturday and managed to get seated pretty quickly! The patio is very cute and welcoming. Service is wonderful with a live mariachi band that floats around. I am very particular about Mexican food as it is my favorite cuisine and I can honestly say that every meal we ordered was delicious! Everyone left full with leftovers for the next day. Patricia was our waitress and she was very kind and helpful offering her favorite menu items.
Some what greeted by the young lady behind the desk as we walked in, customer service was definitely lacking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were given the option to sit indoors or outdoors and chose indoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room is large and clean with strolling Mariachis.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Two baskets of chips and excellent salsa were promptly brought to our table as we sat down. A few minutes passed and a waiter came by to take our order, he seemed to be in a rush as he took our orders. Our plates came out rather quickly and all were substantial in size. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we ate our meals the Mariachis came by and seemed a bit annoyed when we told them we had no requests.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was good but not 100% sure I'd return purely based on the customer service. There is also plenty of free parking.

The food flavor and portions given here never disappoint. I came here with my sister and mom for a girl's night we were seated outside fairly quickly. The weather was perfect and we were joined by some birds that did not have any fear. They were determined to get any fallen chips. I don't blame them. The chips and salsa are delicious! I could have the chips as a meal and I'd be satisfied. Our food was served warm with enough leftovers for the next day. Love this place.
Still the best food, service and atmosphere!! Diner beware of the spice thermometer! Tequila Lime Shrimp is dreamy but the Shrimp Diabla blew my palate out today! Nose running, coughing and pounding water too!! Just too much chili chef and servers should warn the diner about the amount of hot spice!! The fresh made flour tortillas are divine and my husbands enchiladas verdes were chefs kiss!

Came to Casa Guadalajara in Old Town and wow... this place is a whole experience. Right when you sit down, they bring out warm chips and salsa (dangerous in the best way). The food came out fast and portions are HUGE -- definitely come hungry. We ordered a mix of dishes: Chile Colorado - super tender beef, rich and flavorful sauce Carne Asada plate - solid, juicy, and well-seasoned Enchiladas with rice & beans - classic comfort combo Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared, and you can tell they don't hold back on portions. The vibe is festive and lively -- feels like you're right in the middle of a celebration. Service was friendly and attentive, even though the place was busy (which it usually is). Chips were piping hot, fresh and salsa was delicious and not too spicy. Our food was out quickly and we were both happy with our meals. Hubs had the combo #6 enchilada, taco and chile rellano. I had the cheese crisp with chile Colorado, epic! Very flavorful, generous portions. This place is a classic solid choice, come and see for yourself!

Found Casa Guadalajara on Yelp after reading good reviews. The restaurant is conveniently located in old Town San Diego and has plenty of free parking. We came for lunch on New Year's Day and waited about 5 minutes for a table. The chips and salsa were excellent with the salsa being very mild. We ordered and the food came out within 5 minutes which was great cuz we were starving. The portions are huge! I ordered the California Burrito which came with a side of Mexican rice and refried beans. I probably only ate a third of my burrito because it was so big! It wasn't the best California burrito I've ever had, as the fries were pretty soggy. But it was not bad. It was so big though, I think you get a pretty good bang for your buck here. (It was about $20 per entree, but not one of us could finish our whole meal.) After lunch, we walked around Old Town and shopped which was nice to walk off some of our meal. Overall this was a nice Mexican restaurant albeit one of many in the area.

I was hosting my BEST, BEST FRIEND from COLLEGE, after two days of FUN!!! TODAY, we were at the SD ZOO!!! Yesterday, Seaworld. FOR My Partner and I, we can think of no where else to eat our CELEBRATORY DINNER than Casa Guadalajara. It happened to be a SUNNY SUNDAY, and it was extremely crowded. We arrived in two separate cars, and we both circled the parking lot several times before finding a spot. I had gotten out early, and was given a 30 minute window. WE FINALLY GOT OUR TABLE, and it was a great one. It was up top, at the end. We soon met our very friendly FEMALE WAITRESS. We started with DRINKS AND 2 ORDERS OF GUACAMOLE FOR THE TABLE!!! Everything was PERFECT!!! It's so good, and so much food. I had food for a couple of days. MY FRIEND AND HER FAMILY followed my lead, COMBO No 6. It's my favorite. Such a beautiful Sunday in sunny San Diego. I was craving some good queso fundido and could only think of Old town. It did not disappoint we had a beautiful lunch with appetizers. Nothing too filling just appetizers and it hit the spot. Shrimp was nice and crunch big pieces too. The chips with salsa were crispy and warm. Everything was the perfect touch. read more

Loved being sat right next to the fountain. Started with the Concha de Guacamole and it was much bigger than expected and had a nice flavor to it. The service here was soo fast! They were busy, but very efficient. I got the Tequila Lime Shrimp and I was really happy with the amount of shrimp it came with. The shrimp were nicely flavored. The only thing I could taste with the rice was salt, so it wasn't good. My guy got the Cochinita Pibil and we both really enjoyed it. Very nicely marinated and cooked. Their corn tortillas were fluffy and fresh and overall amazing! Is this the place to go for traditional Mexican food? Definitely not. This was an outstanding value, featuring deep-fried white fish that arrived hot and juicy. * Camarones à la Diabla: Nicely sized shrimp were coated in a rich chipotle salsa. Casa Guadalajara is a mexican restaurant in the Old Town area of San Diego. The restaurant lot offers free parking. This restaurant was recommended by a colleague who is one of the main anchor persons on tv. This is a popular dining spot to see San Diego local celebrities. There's indoor and outdoor seating, the later has a a water fountain, with old willow trees and umbrellas to offer shade. Sometimes there's a wandering mariachi band performing which adds to the festive vibe. The staff were always hospitable, attentive and accommodating. My favorite and usual order: piña ice tea, skinny margarita, chips salsa guacamole, chile relleno and or a shrimp avocado tostada salad, all prepared with the California palate, as I always prefer. I've been here a few times to conclude I like the food, service and ambiance, overall positive dining experience to suggest this is a must visit for a Muy Bueno mexican meal or a Fantastico drink, cheers!! This place is super neat, lively, and full of character, with live music that really sets the mood. Our server was an older woman (I wish I remembered her name!) and she was absolutely awesome warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the experience even better. We started with the guacamole, which was not only delicious but also shaped like a little bird..super cute. The chips were crunchy and fresh, not stale at all, which is key for me. For our main dishes we ordered the combination fajitas with homemade flour tortillas. They came out hot, quick, and full of flavor and that's exactly how fajitas should be. We also tried the carne and shrimp combo with black beans. Overall, it was a solid dish. The black beans could've had a bit more flavor, and the steak was a little tough and didn't quite come out medium like we requested, but it was still enjoyable. We finished with fried ice cream, and was really good and the perfect way to end the meal. All in all, a fun spot with great energy, friendly service, and mostly solid food. In packed old town it's a huge plus to see that this restaurant has a parking lot so that it's easier to visit. The patio is so nice to sit in during a summer afternoon and the staff is so friendly. Very pet friendly and they even brought ice water for my pup. I had a light lunch w the albondigas and not only did it feel healthy but it was delicious. The fresh chips and salsa was a great addition as well. read more

Decided to try a new place during our stay in SD. It was busy, lots of large parties and we still only waited 10 min to be seated. Quick service from start to finish. Food was good. Plenty of options to pick from. We ordered the ceviche, steak and enchilada and chile Colorado with handmade flour tortillas. Everything was flavorful and fresh. Also ordered a mojito and el sarape margarita. Both very good. The hostess, waiter and busser were friendly. It was a perfect Thursday afternoon and I needed a big margarita and some lunch. I chose the Carnitas enchiladas. They were delicious with the green sauce. I also enjoyed my margarita. I sat at the bar and the bartender although busy was in constant contact and kept drink refills coming. There are several spaces for dining. The bar is very inviting and perfect if you're by yourself. Located near hotels, this is a wonderful stop for lunch. read more

Food: Vegetarian and non vegetarian options are good. Tasty, flavorful and very very colorful too. We loved the salsa and chips starter.Good generous quantities. Pretty full. Burp! :) Service: Our host, Michelle was good, attentive, knowledgeable having answered all our questions about the menu well. Food came on time. She also brought in some sweet dessert and mariachi band for a birthday in our group. It was amazing!!! Loved it!! Ambience: Great authentic ambience! Total fiesta mood. Very nice! CASA GUADALAJARA @ OLD TOWN Parking is available in their private lot which is incredible because Old Town can get super busy. They do not take reservations, it is only walk ins! My roomates and I came, and we got seated immediately on a Sunday night. It was pretty packed, but they have space inside and outside. Our server was extremely kind, welcoming, and served us super well. The chips and salsa were some of the freshest, and each salsa is given in a little cup to each person which was awesome! We went through so many baskets, they were delicious. I went with one of the combinations, the taco and enchiladas, the enchilada was delicious, and they were not shy with the amount of cheese on it! Big cheese lover, highly recommend this! The taco was decent, it was a hard shell, and it was full of meat and veggies! My friend's birthday was celebrated here, and they gave us some vanilla ice cream and churros! They even sang which was incredible! I LOVED this place. I was always a fan of Mexican food and they nailed it. Upon walking in we were greeted very friendly and seated quickly. The hostess was very nice and gave her recommendations for food options which was super helpful. I got the enchilada with chicken and beef taco - both were amazing. It's a little heavy on the cheese so if you are a little stomach sensitive I would recommend asking them to go light on the cheese. The rest of the dish was amazing and I would get again! The interior and outdoor patio was decorated very tastefully and authentic which I loved. This definitely felt less on the touristy side and wowed me. They have a parking lot out front that's easily accessible with ample spaces, so if you're worried about Old Town parking this is an amazing option. It's also within walking distance of all the shops and main square of Old Town so the location is perfect if you want to spend a day exploring as well! We also were celebrating a friends birthday this night and they had the staff and a band come out to sing happy birthday to her!! I thought this was really cute! This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in San Diego! The food never disappoints me every time I go and it's always so satisfying. I went for lunch and got my usual, California Burrito which comes with Rice and Beans. As usual, it was delicious. I brought my Husband so we split the meal because I can never finish the dish on my own. We were stuffed even after sharing. They also give free chips and salsa. I tear up that salsa each time I go because it's so yummy. I love spice so it's quite good! I have taken just about all my family and friends here at one point because the food is always flavorful. It's a very cute Mexican Restaurant. They have a colorful set up outside and very cozy set up inside. If you haven't been, I always recommend Casa Guadalajara for a tasty meal! read more

First things first, chips and salsa are great! The do have a habanero salsa, it wasn't very hot but good flavor. As we were being seated, we had chips and salsa almost on the table at the same time. Our server was a young lady and she knew that menu and drinks inside and out, as I had plenty of questions. My drink was never empty and that is a plus. My meal was so good I had to force myself to stop eating so I could eat some at home too. On a nice day make sure you sit in the patio area. Another tip, if you are going to shop at the shops and you think you're gonna spend over $50. They give you a voucher for for a buy one get one entree plate! read more
I've been a repeat customer here throughout the years for maybe 12 years or longer. I usually come here for a holiday luncheon or dinners, that's where my employers seem to love to PIC because of the atmosphere, ample seating, and easy meals that everyone likes. They do have a parking lot. Staff are always friendly. This is definitely not my first spot to consider, but every time I've come, it's always been a great visit. They do have good combos. I used to always get the margaritas and they were so good, but I don't drink alcohol anymore but I assume that they're still just as good. Food is pretty bad. Don't come here to eat. Have a drink and hang out, sure. We came for dinner after a long day of sightseeing. We had actually saved our appetites and waited for a table for over half an hour. The food was absolutely awful. The rice was very low quality stuff and poorly cooked. The meat was budget beef. Tamales were a sham. About 1"+ of a thick tasteless outer layer filled with the driest, saddest chicken meat you ever had. Drinks were made a little too strong, actually. The only thing we liked was the fresh salsa and the guacamole. Portions are huge so you could easily share an entree you won't enjoy no matter what. Cheese like glue. The hostess seated us quickly and the server was at our table right away. He took our drink & appetizer order. When the queso fundido was delivered, he took our order. We had a couple of substitutions/modifications to the dinners that we each ordered, but the server was accurate in taking our order. Everything came out very quickly and 100% accurate. Can someone please confirm whether the patio area is definitely (or definitely not) dog friendly?
Are you permitted to bring champagne? Is there a corkage fee?
No outside alcohol is not allowed
Is there still a Happy Hour in the bar weekdays? Do they still have the free appetizers with the purchase of drinks? (If not, they really should bring that back. Loved it!)
They eliminated the free food buffet shortly before Covid began. Never brought it back. More profit is selling overpriced appetizers. Happy Hour crowds there have predictably dwindled.
Is this place Dog friendly?
I don't think so as I never seen a dog there. But they do have an outdoor patio area - might need to call and confirm.
