I wish I could give them a negative five stars. I ordered sympathy flowers for my friends when her brother died. It was supposed to to be delivered to her on Sunday. On Sunday morning they said the shop was closed and could deliver on Monday. On Monday my friend said that she didn't recieved anything and they called me and told me that they gave it to some strange man and then he came down to the shop to buy more flowers to add to the bouquet but they didn't get his name because he paid cash. Wow - I actually came to post a negative review from my recent mother's day experience 2022, to find that I'd written a draft negative review from 10 years ago. Never posted. I was complaining about the brown petals on the flowers I ordered, that the bouquet looked old, and the poor (slow and rude) customer service. Ten years later... I couldn't be more unhappy with Pugh's. In fairness, I know there are different locations, and the first one I called (901) 363-6233/405-6672 were friendly and immediately tried to resolve the problem of having sent the wrong bouquet to my mother on mother's day. They said they'd give me a 50% refund. But then my mother found a dead flower in the bouquet. I called again to request a full refund. However, I called (901) 682-2501 and recieved a totally different kind of treatment. I said to them that I was appalled that in my attempt to repair my relationship with my mother, that I would send her flowers on mother's day that were not only the wrong bouquet, but also had a dead flower in it. The associate I spoke with, "Karen," answered rudely, "well you still got flowers" and "you're still getting a 50% refund" and didn't care a lick about the message that a dead flower given to a mother on mother's day could symbolize. I actually had to convince her that this is extremely poor service on all fronts, that I did not pay $50-something for this bouquet or for a dead flower, and had to demand a 100% refund. She finally said that Pugh's will give me the full refund. I was afraid that even though Karen said this, that she would ignore the situation. So I let the associate I spoke with initially know, and she apologized and has said she'll make sure it's sorted. That's good customer service, unlike Karen! Fooled twice. Silly me. I have no one else to blame but myself after being burned twice by this specific Pugh's location. Let's back up. In December, I ordered an arrangement for my SO for our anniversary. I was able to put a rush delivery on it, pretty handy. Arrangement arrives, wilting. No doubt it was the back of the fridge special I was given. I send in some feedback, because hey, maybe they'd try harder next time. Told myself I should not use them again and stick with my usual florist, who is a slight hassle to use because the ship to address isn't in her web database and all orders delivered have to be called in to her for her approval. Anyways, Valentines day is coming up and against my better judgment, I go to Pugh's website, who is advertising that any orders that come in before Valentine's Day at 10 AM will be delivered. I think great, at least I am getting a guarantee. Now Pugh's has this little feature when you're adding an address into the address book that will allow you to specify a business operating hours, as to ensure an arrangement will be delivered before close. I had previously set it at 9-4 in the previous order. Her office open hours are indeed still attached to the business address book entry. I look at the arrangements. 50 dollars for just half a dozen roses. 50 dollars. 15 dollar markup for Valentine's Day delivery. Convenience is crippling my sound judgment decision making at this point. I go for it. 70 dollars for half a dozen roses after its all taxed and done. Nearly 12 dollars a rose. I wait. Valentine's Day comes and I am checking my email all day for a delivery confirmation. None. I check online for status. None offered. I trust Pugh's is diligently doing their job, my mistake, as the distance from their shop to the delivery address is 1.3 miles. I am not exaggerating that, I just mapped it on Google. 5:15 rolls around, the office is closed, and there is STILL no delivery confirmation. I call Pugh's. "Sorry sir, your order is being delayed due to the weather." Funny, no one else at the office had an issue getting their arrangements delivered by their competitors. Still with me? Here's where it gets really bad. My SO leaves work at 5:30, empty handed. Pugh's Flowers rent-a-driver shows up at 6:15 to deliver it. The office is locked up. Having no way to actually deliver the arrangement, he marks it delivered anyways! No doubt to attempt to show Pugh's fulfilled it on their end. I call the next day. The employee who answers the phone offers to make the arrangement (apparently was never made) and deliver it to the office. I declined and asked him what is the point in grossly overpaying for half a dozen roses, and have them delivered a day late. I demand a full refund. As the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There is never, ever, going to be another instance in which I allow myself to be gouged by this, for a lack of better word, garbage company. My only non regret in this whole matter is that I did not have to go to the store to get my refund, as other reviews have pointed out having to deal with a mouthy Tim Pugh when Pugh's messes up orders. Because there was some confusion on the website regarding the arrangement, I called and spoke to a lady who was unable to even locate the picture on the website. She said she would have someone look into it etc. So I ordered the arrangement "by name in the Premium $200 range". I have ordered from them many times (10+). When the arrangement arrived, my sister sent me a picture; which, in little way resembled the one I ordered. I sent an email to Pugh's and included both the picture from the web site and a picture of the arrangement. I expressed my disappointment in an email and asked for a response as I wondered how many past bouquets I had sent were not what was ordered. I was NEVER contacted. The attendee took the phone number of the person delivered to, the address and my money. However, the arrangement was not delivered on the Tuesday. So I contacted the Union location and was told that the arrangement would be delivered on Wednesday. I asked that they would call the individual receiving the arrangement before the delivery to make sure that she was home. Needless to say that the individual receiving the flowers was not called and the arrangement was left on her porch which she discovered that afternoon. I have ordered from Pugh's before and had an excellent experience from the quality of the product, timeliness of delivery, and customer service. Unfortunately today was a different experience. Pugh's was very helpful in the fact that they called me and left a voicemail several minutes after placing my order to let me know that the driver had already left and because I had ordered late, they would be unable to get the delivery to its destination at the time promised. This is incredibly understanding, and I would have rescheduled the order had it not been for the voicemail I was left explaining the information. The voicemail began with a lady, in a condescending tone, likely unaware that the voicemail had begun recording stating, "Why would you give us a phone number you don't answer." She then switched into a different cheery voice giving me the information I needed. Firstly, I ordered online, and did so quickly because I a doctor and busy at work attending to patient matters and working with my staff. I understand it's frustrating when someone does not answer a phone call, and I understand someone's need to vent their frustrations; however, a customers voicemail is no place for that behavior. As I've said before, Pugh's service has previously been exceptional and I hope this is a one off situation. I'm shocked that this place has negative reviews. I live in Los Angeles, and only deal with them long distance, as my girlfriend lives in Memphis, and they have been nothing but stellar. Quick turnaround, great options, and responsive customer service. I usually receive my confirmation a few seconds after I submit the order. Their website also allows me to store recipients as well as my billing info, making it easy and convenient to order flowers for any occasion. Don't tell my girlfriend that though. After reading the other reviews, I must confess that I simply walked in rather than ordering ahead. So perhaps that is why our experiences with customer service differed. This Pugh's location is located across from a large Memphis cemetery. Most florists in midtown have bouquets or flower arrangements ready to go that you can simply walk in and buy. I suppose it was my mistake to assume this location would too. But they are right across the street from the cemetery so I thought surely this happens to them all the time! The first thing I noticed in the store was that there were only 3 bouquets in the fridge and those were for customers coming to pick-up. The rest of the store was little statues and fake flowers. When I asked if they had anything pre-made to put on a grave (or any arrangement) she said no. At this point, I am embarrassed to say...I broke down and cried. It was a very emotional moment for me and a trip I desperately needed to do. The woman was SO sweet and handed me tissues then ran to the back to show me silk flower arrangements that she promised she could make in 5 minutes. The smaller arrangement was $25 and the larger was $50. I opted for for the larger and she asked me what color ribbon I would like. Side note: I originally wanted real, fresh flowers but she told me that silk flowers last longer for the graves. I am completely new to this so I appreciate the advice. She had it ready in 5 minutes as promised. And it was very pretty (for fake flowers)! This woman's kindness made me immediately become a returning customer. Never again! This is unfortunate because I used them before with no issues and the recipient was very happy with her order. So when my long distance boyfriend ask for a local florist to deliver flowers to me on Valentine's Day I had no hesitation recommending Pugh's. He placed an order to deliver to my work with my work hours so they knew when to deliver. All day I see other people getting gifts and flowers. By the afternoon my boyfriend asked if I've gotten anything and I said nope, nothing. He checked online and there was just a status of "in process" which doesn't tell you much. I walked up where the drop offs usually occur to make sure I just wasn't notified, nothing. I left work empty handed and disappointed. I got home and got a call from work telling me I had a delivery, 40 minutes after I left work! So they delivered them, just not in the time frame requested and there was no communication about the delay. I understand this is a busy day, but Pugh's took the order and took the money that's a promise they were going to deliver. They could have contacted my boyfriend to let him know if there was a delay. I could have waited for the flowers if I would have known. If there is any day not to deliver on time this is the day! I regret recommending them and will be looking for another local florist to recommend to him the next time he wants to send flowers. read more
