I have been coming here since 2013 (about 10 years) and I don't have one single complaint about the service! One day I went in because I hit a big rock and thought it probably destroyed my under carriage. They checked my car, and when I asked how much I owed, they said it was free! WHO DOES THAT??? Seriously - most places I can't go because they will make stuff up just to get money off me - but these folks are offering me free diagnostics and air in my tires!!! Now don't go in there looking for freebies, but do go in there looking for people who will deal with you honestly! I read one or two of their bad reviews and I figure - nobody's perfect. I would not recommend this business at all and here is why. I took my vehicle in to have a catalytic converter put on and the same lights that were on when I took it in continued to stay on afterwards. I had it checked at another repair shop and was told that there was an area in the converter that was not "sealed properly".... I conveyed this to Alfonso who ask that I bring it back in to be serviced. I was told by him that I needed a gasket...I purchased the gaskets ... took my vehicle back in and was then told that the gasket was not needed and he did not see any leaks etc... well, when I went to pick up my vehicle it was then that I was told...he had just then found a leak and sealed it. My question is, why would you first of all say I needed a gasket then say I did not... say you did not find any leaks after putting it on your machine and then say once I arrive you did find a leak and had the nerve to tell me to take my vehicle some place else! Unacceptable!!! He should have repaired the problem that his shop created but he did not. So I went to another repair shop and as soon as they lifted my vehicle up they immediately spotted the leak. So, I ask, would anyone put up with this? I would not recommend this business to anyone! How dare he tell me to take my vehicle some place else. They just did not want to correct their mistake. Does anyone have any advice as to how they would have handled this situation? I am very disappointed in this business and will never return there for service...not even a oil change! I've been going to this place for years! Everyone is nice and the service is quick and thorough. I have no idea about cars so I can't give a really in depth review. But, I can say that Steve is a great guy! I think he's the owner or manager or something. He's been there as long as I can remember and takes good care for my car as well as my gramma's. He was able to pull up the records from my car before I even mentioned my name. (And no, he didn't see my license plates first, either :D). He also noticed my gramma's car before I did when she came to pick me up. I was completely impressed. Also, he explains things without getting too technical or making me feel like 'dumb girl.' So, if you are in the Temple Hills area, don't go the dealerships that are conveniently down the street. Come here! Your car (and your wallet) will thank you. read more

The service was prompt. They seem honest. Everything they said, they followed through with it. The price was competitive comparing to others. They took our Honda van with a starter issue. Went because Sheneeda (my saturn hybrid) was making a grinding noise, brakes squealing and all level of hood ratchetry! (I know that isn't a word but I like it). Oh yeah, she was due for an oil change too. Now did her royal eco-hoodness make any of those noises or present any of her high pitched, attention getting antics to Steve?? Of course not! So why the high rating? He called first thing in the am to say oil job complete and after all his testing and teasing she still wouldn't show her true colors. He didn't charge me for the testing and was willing to trouble shoot scenarios with me and tell me what to listen for next time she did it. He printed up estimates of worst and best case scenarios for me so I could have an idea of cost spending and saving should she act a fool again. He was honest and talked me through everything he tried and did his best to save me money. I'll take her back to Steve should she show her trunk again. read more

The air conditioner in my dad's 93 Corolla hadn't worked in years. I needed a conversion kit since freon is no longer in use. Most places don't do the conversions anymore but Hillcrest does. They charge a fair price and take care of problems right away. I'll be back soon. read more

This is the best auto place I have been to so far in life, the auto work is the best but that's the small part of it. The big thing is how friendly and personal the people are especially Alfonso. They really go beyond jus car work they do and give advice that they don't have to. Answer all questions and really break things down to the simplest form for u to understand. I actually found this shop through Yelp and I had passed by it for years so I figured let me take a shot and see how these guys do. I have to say that I didn't experience any problems from them and they where very honest about what my car needed and didn't needed. Their prices seemed fair and the staff was friendly. The only reason why I didn't give them five stars is because their alignment machine was working and I had to go somewhere else to have that done. When I lived in the nearby neighborhood and needed somewhere to take my car I gave this place a shot because it was within walking distance. All in all had numerous services performed by them at various times and generally came away satisfied. When having them install some engine parts they had an engine fire (loosely tightened parts after instal) burnt my underhood thru to the surface. Caused the whole hood to be repainted (which they paid for) however they didn't replace the wiring & sensors also burnt in the fire so there's that... So 3 stars; no more no less read more

Now this really hurts my heart to write this review. Been coming to Hillcrest automotive for well over 15 years. Before Alphonso took over. There used to be an older gentleman who used to work on all of my vehicles. Alphonso is a great mechanic. I am not sure who worked on my truck this past experience. So I took my 2001 Ford Expedition in because it was shaking while driving. Was told I needed to replace all spark plugs and wires. Cost me a little over $450.00. Couple of days later the same problem occurred. Now I was told I needed a new catalytic converter. Alphonso explained the bad catalytic converter was causing my spark plugs to backfire. So why was this not diagnosed the week before. So now I am out of $450.00 and my vehicle is still not running smoothly. On another occasion I brought the same truck for an oil change. And 0when I picked my vehicle05 up. I drove down the street and my change oil light came back on. I took it straight back to the shop. And was advised they never even completed the oil change. Hurts my heart as I have had all my vehicles serviced here but I will NEVER bring another vehicle of mines here again read more

hello folks, respectfully I must say that I was not impressed with the service I received at Hillcrest. Maybe it was just one of those days but the shop did not open on time. I brought my bmw their based on the good rating from a friend. I was thoroughly disappointed. I had a problem with my lights and they claimed to have fixed that and the AC which both worked for about a day. I took it back and they still did not fix the problem after charging me over $500.00.
