I Miss the original owner. The new owner only cares about money. I paid a diagnostic fee and came in for a wheel alignment. They kept my vehicle for 5 days after quoting a price to hold it over the weekend. Then, they gave me a different price. On day 5, the price doubled. I went to another mechanic for a wheel alignment and was told it was just a front inner & outer tire rod end issue- no tire problem or issues with the tie rods front and back that would cost $1300 at this place. SMH! Save your money and time. What tire rod fix cost this much. Really My son says this place isn't the same anymore. I've been with this business for ten years. I've found a new mechanic who won't try to scam women. They just make up stories. Don't go--save your money. read more

Last year I took my son's car there. The guy told me it would be ready in a couple days which turned into over a week. He told me a quick date just so he could get the car in and get paid. He has no right to hold on to my vehicle. He doesn't care what kind of inconvenience he imposes on his customers. Fast forward to today, my son takes his truck in to get the AC checked. They say he has to get it replaced. BUT, they can't give an estimate because the guy who does the estimates isn't in until Monday. Then he has the nerve to say if we take the vehicle home he has to charge a diagnostic fee, all of a sudden thats policy, because we might take it somewhere else to get it fixed. Like it was our fault his guy isn't there. His mom asked to text the receptionist who knows us and he says he doesn't have her number/jcan't text her. She gets the keys to leave and suddenly he's texted the receptionist and he's trying to work something out. Mind you we have been using this shop for over 20 years! That has never been "policy". And what right does he have to hold our vehicle over the weekend. Notice the theme. All this guy wants is money. He'll say anything to get you to leave the vehicle to make a buck. The previous owner was thoughtful, helpful, thorough and timely. This guy is the total opposite and has zero appreciation for long time customers. The mechanics and receptionists are top notch, the owner not so much. Beware of getting anytime other than an oil change. read more

It really took me some time to think about leaving this review, however after having to take my car to the dealership because the work was not done correctly and $1,910.00 later to repair, I had to. Then I decided to review other 1 star reviews on the website in the past years from other dissatisfied customers. After many bad experiences with mechanics I was expecting the worse but just hoping i wasn't getting jipped. .. They exceeded my expectations. The administrative agent (Jennifer I believe), she was very kind, professional, & thorough! The communication was good and service was quick. This place was a life saver! I originally had taken my car to the Hyundai dealership across the street when my car broken down and the engine light was on, and they weren't going to be able to even look at it for diagnostics for TWO WEEKS. However, I was luckily able to drive my car slowly right across the street to Powertrain and they were able to get to it within a few days. It turned out I needed a new radiator, and they were so helpful and worked with me to get to it sooner than expected since I was scheduled to leave the country. I encountered a really strange problem with my airconditioning in my 2010 Honda Civic. It wasn't cooling or would cool some and then stop after. The pipes would freeze too. I had only been going to Powertrain for just a couple of months and for small repairs so I was not really sure about using their services. Al, Jennifer and his team were so professional in delivering great customer service, very reasonable pricing, trustworthiness, and a commitment to getting the results needed at all costs. I brought my Toyota Avalon to the shop because my car was overheating. Prior to going to Powertrain I had taken my car to another shop where they did work on my car, but I didn't realize that that shop had not really fixed my issue until Al's team discovered that none of the parts that were suppose to be fixed, were not fixed. My car was a slight challenge and I had to go to Powertrain quite a few times to figure out what the problem was with my car. It was still overheating, air wasnt cooling, and car started shaking. Although it was extremely frustrating, Al and his team were able to get my car back up and running smoothly. They had excellent customer service, and went above and beyond to make sure they figured out what was going on with my car. I was very pleased that I brought my Ava (car) to them. read more

I've been taking my car to Powertrain in Bowie for years for maintenance and minor repairs. Recently my car broke down and I had it towed to the dealership. I was told that the alternator had to be replaced and it would cost almost $2k to have the work completed. I immediately called Powertrain for another estimate. I'm glad I did, they were able to do the repair for less than half the cost (parts and labor included). And my car was ready within 48 hours! read more

I was totally taking advantage of by them. I first called to see if they accepted my warranty company which was Car Shield and they told me yes. I brought my car in an Al asked me to fill out and sign the paperwork about my car. This is where the first trick came in. I told Al that I didn't feel comfortable signing it because I didn't want to authorize anything not being paid for by my warranty company. Al so I thought assured me that my signature only authorize them to test drive and diagnose the vehicle. And he informed me that if Car Shield denies the claim, I would only be responsible for paying his diagnostic fee. After several days of not hearing from them about my vehicle I called and talked to Jennifer asking her the status of my vehicle. While giving me the findings I asked her if it was covered by my warranty and she said yes and I then asked her when would my car be ready Thursday or Friday. The following Wednesday our car still wasn't ready and was told that they wasn't sure when it would be. I then called my warranty company to see if they could pay Power Train for the work that they had already done and we could take the car elsewhere for the completion of the work. My warranty company informed me that they told PT last week that the repairs wasn't covered. So I called PT back to let them no my findings and was told that I approved the uncovered work to the tune of almost $2000. They implied that I was a liar and someone trying to get a free car repair. My car was held until I paid the billed and was threatened to be charge storage fees. I will be filing complaints with the BBB and the Attorney General office as well. By law no company is supposed to start any repairs over $50 with providing the customer with a written estimate. Be aware people. read more

My experience with a PowerTrain was wonderful. I needed my electrical system repaired on my Chrysler Town n Country. The dealership quoted me $2200. Powertrain completed the job in 2 days at $900. I have not had any further trouble with my electrical system. The work was done right and the customer service was excellent too! The lady at the desk has one of the best customer service skills I've ever dealt with. My car wouldn't start. I called and had the car towed an hour later. Jennifer called me upon the shop opening with the diagnosis. Two hours later my car was ready. This auto mechanic shop does not price gouge nor do they try to sell you something that's not needed. They did exactly what was needed. Nothing more; nothing less. Definitely going back! read more

Took my S10 pickup here a few months ago for a transmission problem. After only a few hours of diagnosis, they called me and informed me that there was nothing wrong with my truck. When driving the truck, it is inherently obvious that the transmission is on its last legs (gears slipping, improper shifting, just about everything that can go wrong) yet they did not find any issue. Went to pick up the truck and then proceeded to take it to Annapolis Transmissions, where they promptly informed me that my transmission was fried and needed a complete rebuild, which I had done. I have been happy with it since. Now I cannot speak for all of the work that Powertrain does, but I do believe that if you have a transmission issue in particular you are better off taking it to a specialty transmission shop. While Powertrain did end up giving me my $100 diagnostic fee back, I still feel that their customer service is lacking. read more

I have been to many shops for maintenance and repair of my car, and I had to write to say how pleased i was with Powertrain. I took my car there after a LOUSY experience with a shop in Laurel - that I will NEVER go near again! (See my other reviews!) This shop, Powertrain, not only corrected the bungling of the Laurel shop, but pointed out additional problems that may cause headaches in the future! They gave me an estimate to do the work, and even though it turned out to be more than either of us bargained for, they did not raise the estimate when the EXCELLENT work was finally completed. I consider my expectations a little higher than most and I don't recommend many businesses - ESPECIALLY AUTO REPAIR SHOPS (most are shysters!) - but I HIGHLY endorse Powertrain for anyone near the Bowie area who needs auto repair! Kudos to Mr. Walsh and his talented team of mechanics. I got great service at a very reasonable price in a timely manner - despite complications. What more can one ask? read more
