My request was out of the ordinary but very necessary. My husband is having a great deal of difficulty walking suddenly and our little transport wheelchair had messed up brakes. It's very difficult to transfer someone onto a chair you cannot stabilize. Dan was very kind and did a very thorough job of fixing the chair so that now the brakes work well and I can rely upon them. I know it was slightly out of his day-to-day area of expertise and I so appreciate his kindness in helping me get it functioning again. I called because Pullins has taken care of our bicycles for close to 50 years. It's a gem. When you go, look at how the many bicycles have bashed up their front door frame. Steve and his staff are ALWAYS the best! Took my bike in on a Saturday morning because my back tire was completely flat and wouldn't inflate. Walked the bike into the store. They immediately put it up on the rack, replaced the tube, checked the brakes, took it out and loaded it in my car and I was SET TO RIDE! Thank you SO MUCH! I ALWAYS USE PULLINS!! My daughters bike had a blown out tube...so I had her take the bike to Steve at Pullins. I had messaged Steve thru Yelp and asked about paying him remotely to do all the needed repairs and check the bike out as well. He responded and was so helpful and accommodating. what a relief!! Thru talking with Steve I learned that Pullins has a long history in Chico...101 years worth! When my daughter walked into his shop, she said is was like stepping back in time. My one and only one-day trip to Chico was greatly enhanced by the courtesy of Pullins Cyclery. I stayed overnight at a downtown hotel near Pullins to break up a long road trip. I desperately wanted to ride a bike around Bidwell Park, had not brought my own on this trip, and none of the bike stores that rented bikes opened before 10 AM, when I wanted to go out riding at 8 or 9 AM. I hasten to say that what Pullins did for me is not What They Do, so please don't presume that they will do it again. However, I'm writing this review because it says how awesome they are. I was at their door when they opened at 9 AM, with my own helmet and bike lock in hand, and asked if they would consider renting me a bike even though the Internet showed that's not their thing. They said no, and I asked, what about loaning me a bike? The accommodation we came to is that I left them my driver's license and a credit card, and they loaned me a used, for-sale cruiser comfort bike for the morning. As it happened, there was a dog show and fair and a farmer's market going on in Bidwell Park that day. I had such a great time riding to the top of lower Bidwell Park, and going to the two events. It truly was a highlight of my three-week road trip. I'm so grateful to Pullins for being flexible, and taking a calculated albeit collateralized risk on me, that they did not have to do, at all. They are good guys. read more

I don't even live in Chico - in fact I live 475 miles away, in Los Angeles - and I give this traditional bike shop a top rating. Service is fast and honest, prices are at least competitive if not better than other shops, and if they don't have what you want, the staff can get it. I first took my bike in for repair at Pullins about 1968. Yes, 1968, when I was a student at Chico State. I make my way back to Chico on occasion, at least once a year (I like to ride the Chico Wildflower Century), and I always try to say hello to the current owner - who is the reincarnation of the original Mr. Pullin - and his manager. When I've been in town, I've had my bikes worked on in the shop a few times over the past few years, and I'm always happy with the results. So I'm not writing the review based on decades-old memories, I'm commenting on the shop as it exists in the second decade of the 21st century. There are other fine bike shops in town. Pullins is without a doubt my favorite, because it has truly withstood the test of time, remaining just a good now as it was four and a half decades ago. read more

This is THE place to go for bike service in the greater northern California area. These guys have decades of experience, and their prices are very, very reasonable. PLUS, you'll be supporting a bike shop that's nearly 100 years old. Very cool. The only downside - and this really isn't a serious issue - is that the shop is small, so the inventory of new bikes isn't huge (compared to the mega-bike-stores we've all become accustomed to). However, they can special order anything and usually have whatever model you'd like to try within a couple of days. Even if you don't need anything, if you find yourself in Chico, GO to Pullin's and simply soak up the ambiance. You'll love it! read more

I love riding my bicycle, but I'll admit that I am new to roadbikes and know hardly anything about proper maintenance and bike anatomy. I was hesitant to go to Pullins because I didn't want to be thought of as another college kid with a roadbike (okay, I've graduated now but I'm still in that age range), but when my front tire got its second flat within a few days, I knew I had to seek help somewhere. When I walked in, I was greeted pleasantly. I told Dan (I think that was his name) my issue, and he took a look at my tube and tire for me. Instead of rushing through things and just putting a new tube in for me, he took the time to search for any and all causes that it could be, then carefully put a new tube in taking his time to make sure it was set properly. He also gave me some advice on what to do for preventing flats. I was in search of a puncture-resistant tire with Kevlar in it, which unfortunately they didn't have. I would say that was my only issue, which wasn't really that big of an issue. I love how helpful Dan was and how he didn't pressure me to buy something that I didn't want. I was nervous about going in and feeling like a complete idiot, but instead I was treated awesome and with compassion. I am definitely going to go to Pullins first for anything in the future related to my bike :) read more

Steve and Dan (?) were awesome. Very friendly, and helpful. I couldn't get air into either tire on a Schwinn bike that hadn't been used for several years. The valve kept pushing back into the tire. Dan put it up on the rack and was able to fill both tires. I asked if the bike needed to be 'tuned up' before using it. Dan indicated to 'just ride it around a bit and see how it works for you.' He pointed out something with the derailleur that could be looked at, but again said, 'just ride it around a bit'. I was impressed with the fact that they didn't try to 'sell me a tune up', when it might not be needed. That is honesty and integrity in a business. There was no charge for the time they took on the bike, even though I offered to pay. I am IMPRESSED with this shop! Thank you! read more

Ok..had the day off and decided to ride from one end of Chico to the other. By the time I got near CSU, I had a flat. Walked my bike over to Pullins Cyclery. I was in a pickle, I had left my wallet at home accidentally so that left me with a flat and no money. But..the people at Pullins were great. They fixed my tire with a smile and were patient with me as I called my wife to pay by credit card over the phone. The gentleman who helped me didn't seem annoyed at my wallet situation and acted like it was all in a days work. These guys are incredibly nice and helpful. After biking downtown to a gas station with my girlfriend to clean our chains, we had grease all over our hands and everyone was driving around glaring daggers at us like we were some sort of abomination. We went into Pullins and they let us use their amazing grease killing soap to clean our hands and changed our brake pads for an incredibly reasonable price. Life saver -- and super relaxing place to chill. They also threw in a Chico bike map and gave us the lay of the land. read more

They've been instrumental in helping me restore my classic Schwinn with their parts inventory and skills (and plenty of good, free advice). If you are looking for great advice, from friendly people who have a true, non-pretentious love for cycling, Pullins is your shop. This place is a cornerstone in the community and they do justice to their legacy. Awesome people that just want you to enjoy your ride, anyway you want to enjoy it. Make sure to check out Steve's collection of bikes, which looks like the used section, but all of the sweet ones are his and not for sale. Very rude and no customer service or support. Me and my wife were stranded because of a simple wheel that just needed some edging in (we found this out after because of the guys of cycle sport) and he refused to help us because it wasn't a quick release system and he did not want to turn the screws. I even offered to unscrew them for him, and he still refused. I stressed that it was an emergency and that I needed his help and then he just disappeared into the back and never came back out. He is very lazy and negative. He even lied and said that he would be on vacation in order to turn down another job we asked for and we pass by there everyday on our way to work and we saw him. I took my bike here after an accident and asked them to replace anything that needed fixed. After one week, I received a call and the guy said they had straightened the wheel and the bike was in riding condition. I asked that he please install some baskets on the back. Another week went by so I called the shop to ask what was up and was told the baskets still needed to be ordered but that it would be ready in a couple days. Four days later I still had heard nothing. I called again and was finally able to pick up my finished bike, total of $115. When the bike was returned to me the rack and baskets were mounted as I had asked but the pedals hadn't been replaced and they didn't clean or service any of the gears or cables. In fact, I don't think they did much to the bike at all. The rack was installed using electrical tape. The man I spoke with admitted to being understaffed but that's not really an excuse for shorty work and cutting corners. read more

They were very helpful source of information regarding the various components/needs for my bike. My wife's bicycle got a flat, and asked me to bring it to Chico to get it repaired (I just couldn't find time to do it myself). I wheeled the bike into Pullins, and asked if they could repair the flat front tire. I was told that if I had a couple of minutes, they could fix it while I waited...I did! I was expecting to drop it off and pick it up later. It's fantastic that he had time to do it on the spot. It took less than 10 minutes to get a new, heavy-duty tube installed and the bike was back on the road (total cost: $14). Thank you Pullins!! read more

This is the shop that will have the awkward tool that the other shops wont have. This is the shop that will most likely have a skip tooth chainring. This is the shop that the dudes that work at the other bike shops in town go to if their clientele has a machine that's a little more "refined" or "aged" (pronounce: age-ed). Here you will find new raleighs, and a back room full of really nice vintage bikes. The shop is small, the shop is small, the shop is probably the most underrated gem downtown chico has to offer. You can have absolutely no idea what a rouleur is (don't beat yourself up about it, I dont know what it is either), or be one yourself- this shop will help you. read more

Dan helped with getting my family set up with bikes after our move to Chico. The repairs he made on a secondhand bike I brought in were superb and he took his time to explain what he did as well as to talk to me about other equipment I wanted to use with our bikes (trailers, etc.) So helpful, friendly and reasonably priced! For a novice biker he never made me feel silly for asking a lot of questions and he put me at ease immediately. If you have a bike or want a bike, definitely come here! I got a flat tire on my first day of school (which sucks) and walked over here from Chico State with my bike in tow. I was kind of bummed out but that changed when I was immediately greeted and helped. They fixed my flat! Turns out there were like 3 holes in my tire! Yikes. I have a custom bike with some pretty rare tires. It took a bit longer to fix my tires because of this. They managed to fix it up anyways and even ordered tubes that would fit my bike for the next time! It was $12 to fix my flat and they even pumped the other tire for me! I haven't got a flat since! The guys here are great and I had a great time talking about history with them (I'm a history minor). Support local businesses! Come here! So I am kinda jaded because I have gotten to know the staff, BUT I sent i n a friend who was looking for a used like to take to Burning Man next month....As always, they listened to what the customer wanted and met the need and his budget....he couldnt stop talking about his experience. I was proud to refer him. They are working on a project for me and rather than spending boat loads of money, they always have cool recycled part that just MAKES my new ride individual....so they don't have 100 new bikes to look at....Not even 50......They have the coolest selection of preowned bikes that will fit any budget.....tx Steve, Dan, and Renee!
