The selection inside this store is nothing short of vast - has anything a sports lover could imagine. I come here on occasions. Since it's near the mall, it can get busy. Back to the selection, it has apparel, exercise equipment, sports equipment, shoes, knick-knacks, etc. They even offer stringing services for tennis players. They often have sales here, which is when I come in and buy items. Otherwise, prices are a little too high for me. Service here is not too bad, pretty easy to get someone's attention, and they'll guide you to the appropriate section of the store. read more

Stopped into this Dicks Sporting Goods on our way up the hill to the snow, to grab some gloves. They didn't have winter gear out on the floor yet, but someone approached us asking if we needed help. The gentleman went into the back and pulled out gloves for us that they had just got in. I LOVE the products Dick's carries, but am anxious to find another place to shop. Every time I go to Dick's Sporting Goods I leave irritated. If it's not their ridiculous check out line, it's a unknowledgeable manager, horrible "coupons", or unhelpful employees. My most recent visit was no exception. I was buying a stack of clothes and fishing gear and hoping to use two "bonus point" cards. The cards give 100 and 200 extra points for using with a $25 and $100 purchase. The cashier refused to use multiple cards or even make two transactions. Seems stupid to me. I was about to spend about $300, but since she wouldn't take my cards I only used my $10 gift card (from points). I want to like this place, but just get fed up with the BS. read more

Two weeks ago a friend of mine and I went to Dicks sporting goods because he wanted to purchase a gun safe. Spent $500 on a stack on gun safe, seemed like a great sturdy safe.... The safe was not the problem.... We got to his house and assumed there is a manual on how to set up the code, but the box did not have one and since it was a little torn we assumed it might have fallen at Dick's warehouse. We called the store the people in the department had no idea how the safe works, or even how to find a manual or any information on it. We were then transferred to the store manager, and you would think he could have helped us, well that was not the case. He took down the name and phone number saying he would give us a call back letting us know the info we need. It has been over a week and he has yet to call. We finally gave up and found the info online... We are not very happy with this store and do not recommend it to anyone that is looking for customer service.... read more

This place is a poor excuse for a sporting goods store, unless you prefer to pay top dollar for cheap stuff from China. I bought a folding chair there and it broke when I first tried to open it! Which leads to another point their customer service is horrible! Walk into the big box store and there is no one to help you! Furthermore, unless you sign up for their rewards program, my chair was unable to be exchanged or refunded. Wait let me clarify, they offered me $3 dollars for the $20 chair I bought a week earlier and would not simply allow me to exchange the chair for another cheap over-priced folding chair! The prices are steep, the knowledge of the employees is weak, the management's awareness of the area is based upon assumptions and not actual knowledge and we all know what harm ass.u.me-ing does. Here's a tip, Dick's, there is more than guns to sell here in good ole Chico. Try hiring employees that are experts in the sports played here: soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, etc. A great test would be to ask the employee candidate during the interview to list all of the sports teams, clubs, and events in town. read more

It's too bad this location has such poor reviews, but my experience here was great. First of all, I came in on my half hour lunch to get a new bike, and they helped me out with finding one, tuning it, and adjusting everything to my liking with time to spare. They happily lowered the price by $100 because I had found it on promotion on the Dick's website. Then, completely due to my bad choice in frame size (I have the body of a short woman, but the legs of an Amazon, apparently) I had to bring the bike back and they exchanged it for me no problem even though it's against their policy to do so. Lots of high quality clothes and equipment. Most of the stuff they sell can be hard to find at other stores around Chico. Since they tend to sell higher quality brands, the prices can be a little high. Some people complain about it being a "big box" sports store, but Chico needs one. Back where I'm from, we lost Sports Authority and Sports Chalet. Tough to find other stores to buy quality sporting equipment. Price matching does not happen at this store. I wanted to buy a Bowflex which happened to be $100 cheaper through a sale on Bowflex's website. Two sales people told me they would match the price but when I got to the counter to pay, the manager said they do not honor sale prices, and would only match the regular price. He tried to tell me that Bowflex direct would "get me" on the shipping price and when I showed him that the shipping was only $25, he still chose not to honor it. I walked out of the store and later happened to find the company's policy online and saw that the manager was wrong. Their policy clearly states that they will match a sales price. In the end, I decided I'd rather not spend my money at this particular store.
