Stopped in here today looking for cute party invitations that weren't over the top expensive. The selection was OK...found a few different cards that I thought about purchasing until I saw the prices. Geez- I could make my own invitations that would be just as cute and about 1/4 of the price at kinkos! I did notice that they sell Crane's paper, which would increase their rating in my mom's book (she has a thing for Crane's). The sales guy could have been a bit friendlier as well...he answered my questions, but didn't go out of his way to help me. His mistake because with a little help I probably would have bought my invitations here! Edit 5/31: Stopped back in here today to buy a card and the sales associate was much friendlier this time (maybe cause I bought something?). My Fiance and I did our save the dates form Pulp and Ink. I can not say how dissatisfied I was. The owner, Collin, is horrible. He is rude, unapologetic and must have a serious self esteem issue because he made excuses and blamed us multiple times when he made mistakes. He missed key details we asked him to do that were in the proofs, missed the printing deadlines more than once. All around, I would never recommend this company to anyone. Chicago is too big to waste your money on a sub par product coordinated by a jerk. read more

Maybe we were just unlucky, but we came in when the store was completely empty, so we asked to look at a couple of invitation books. The salesperson looked at us like we were putting him out, asked if we had a reservation, and begrudgingly let us look at the book open on the table. He was also on the phone most of the time. Pulp & Ink was my first and last stop for my wedding "Save the Dates" and invitations. I randomly chose them from a directory in a wedding magazine and made an appointment to stop by with my future Mother in Law and future Step Mother in Law (we're close like that). Colin was so extremely accommodating to all our neuroses, and was a great educator. We learned so much in that first visit, and chose the most expensive invitation suite imaginable without even knowing it(we have great taste like that). I went back the next day with my fiance and Colin assisted us in choosing something just as beautiful, and with a similar aesthetic to the insanely expensive set, but for half the price. Since that time I have left all of my invitation needs in Pulp & Ink's hands. They have handled all of our calligraphy, stamping, and assembling needs. I didn't even need to make a trip to the post office. Above all I have to praise Colin's amazing patience and guidance. Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful, and my stress has centered around the address list(s) and etiquette. Colin handled all of my (seemingly) hundreds of emails in stride, guided me when I needed and let me come to my own crazy bridal conclusions when necessary. Bought overpriced Christmas cards here- decided to try and go back to get my WEDDING INVITATIONS made...I emailed them a template and my ideas, I called them, it's been over 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything...the guy on the phone said he'd get back to me in a rude tone... I have to admit, I'm shocked at the low ratings that Pulp and Ink has on Yelp as well as the harsh criticisms of the store owner, Colin. My wedding planner recommended him and I was a little concerned just because I do put a lot of stock in what Yelp reviewers have to say but I feel like they're completely off base on this one. We just ordered our wedding invitations from here and couldn't have been happier with Colin's customer service as well as the selection. Colin worked with us to find a design that we all liked and helped keep us within a specific price point, which no other place offered to do. Colin is a consummate professional and I look forward to working with him again. My review is purely about customer service. I did not buy anything here. My fiance and I were wandering around last week and I asked if he'd mind stopping in to look at wedding invitations, he agreed so we popped in. Neither of us realized that this involves looking at giant binders of very expensive paper. The guy that was helping us was so patient and put up with our bickering. After we'd been there about 15 minutes my fiance was starting to shut down and get snappy with me (apparently he really DID NOT want to look at wedding invitations) and the guy helping us sensed that we probably needed to leave and politely handed me his card and said we could come back anytime. He was so tactful and I really appreciated his putting up with what was a bit of a brat attack on our part. They do have gorgeous invitations here, we can't afford them, but I'd recommend this store to anyone given the level of service we received. read more

My first experience with this shop was quite pleasant. I was looking for wedding invitations. I did not have an appointment, but it was pretty quiet in the store and the young gentleman working that day was exceptional. He immediately greeted me when I walked in and let me know just to ask if I needed help with anything. I explained what I was looking for and he walked me through the invitations and choices. I found the wedding invitations I was looking for, he recorded all of my details, provided me with a rough estimate and told me when I was ready to purchase just stop back in (no appointment necessary), give them my name and they could pull my file and they would finalize everything. A few weeks later I stopped in with my mother-in-law, the store was again quiet but we were not greeted by the man in the store. When I approached him, he identified himself as the store owner and asked if I could wait a minute or two while he finished up something. We waited for about 10 minutes, he came over and I explained I had previously worked on designing my wedding invitations and asked if he could pull the details and show my mother-in-law what I had chosen. I was given so much attitude from this man, he was not helpful and made me feel like I was inconveniencing him with my visit and inquiries. Needless to say I did not purchase my invitations from this store and will not be giving them any business in the future. read more

I had to buy some professional-looking thank you notes and I was trying to decide between 2 Crane & Co. ones, both of them overpriced. Do not go here for wedding invitations! It started over the phone. He was rude, short and didn't really answer the questions I had. I took that as a red flag, but wanted to see what they had in the store. Perhaps, he was someone who was more pleasant in person. I went here looking for an invite and experienced such horrible customer service. I have been lucky because most vendors that work in the wedding business are very pleasant. When I got married, I decided to keep everything in the neighborhood: the church, reception site (A New Leaf - awesome by the way), tailor, the invitations, oh and the fiance! We planned our wedding in 4 months (no, it was not a shotgun) and I just didn't have the time to reasearch vendors. Luckily, Pulp and Ink was just down the street. I have to say that Colin (the owner) made ordering my wedding invitations extremely easy! Although they were on the expensive end, it was totally worth it. The paper stock alone is beautiful and I had several people compliment me on my invitations (thanks Colin)! Since then, I have ordered baby announcements (you get a discount if you ordered the wedding invitations through them) and a little Valentine that I sent out from my 6mo son (slacker mom here just couldn't get a holiday card done in time, so our new tradition is a Valentine with photo). Don't copy! Everything I have ordered through them has turned out great. A card in the window had caught my eye so I walked in and asked the gentleman at the desk for some help. He barely looked up from what he was doing and seemed completely uninterested that a customer was in the store. I finally repeated myself and asked if he had more of the cards in the window. Colin, the owner, helped me with all the paper products for my wedding, including invitations, menus, programs, etc. He came highly recommended by a friend at work and my coordinator and I can see why. He was patient in working with me to design the exact invitation I wanted, and to make sure that the other products used the same design motif. The store will also mail them for you (and I understand provides rsvp services, though I didn't use those). Most unfriendly and rude shop owner I have ever experienced. He doesn't greet you, when you make a purchase he is rude and acts like he is doing you a favor. The card selection is good- however there are many other amazing card shops in the city with better selection and 100% more friendly and helpful sales help. Pulp & Ink prepared our save-the-dates, invitations, welcome letters, menus, programs, placecards, and thank-you cards. Everything was beautiful. Our guests raved that our invitations were the most amazing, unique and beautiful they'd ever received. Colin was extremely helpful when we had no clue what we liked or wanted. We often chose the most expensive option, but he helped us find alternatives to stay within our budget. He helped us narrow down our options and weigh the pros and cons of each. He was extremely accommodating with our schedules and promptly replied to all emails. The proofs were easy to edit through email, and he had great advice about etiquette, formatting, etc. Some of the reviewers complained about having to make an appointment. The reason for this is that you get Colin or Jeff's undivided attention and assistance. It's worth it. And if you happen to catch them when they don't have an appointment, we found they were more than eager to help us on the spot. I worked with Pulp and Ink on my Save the Date and Wedding Invitations. The items came out great, and they have good stock. The process was terrible and I will never go back there again. The owner was incredibly rude- and I spent quite a bit of money with him. He was rude each time I went in the door- I dreaded going there. The first time I met him, I didn't want to go back, but I liked the stock so I did. I regret that decision. I found another vendor to do all the remaining materials for the wedding because it was so awful working with him. There were SEVERAL mistakes through out the process, even after proofs were approved, including a set of mistakes on some items he had to reprint for me. There was a total lack of clarity on cost throughout the process- all mistakes on his end. Brides or anyone else- do not work with Pulp and Ink. You will absolutely regret it. read more

Like most everyone else who has reviewed this place, I had a terrible experience with whom I assume was the owner. I stopped in to grab a card for a friend, and I asked a few questions about whether or not they had the particular type of card I wanted. He seemed a bit perturbed that I was asking him any questions at all. But he *tried* to help me.. He pointed me in the right direction. Their selection wasn't terrible, but I would've expected more for the size of the shop. However, when I asked if they had a particular card I had seen at another local stationary store he rolled his eyes and was beyond rude to me. I was actually shocked. He was very condescending, dismissive and just completely rude. I know these boutique stationary stores sometimes have some of the same cards, but I also realize they're unique to each other. Either way, my question didn't warrant the reaction I received. In fact, I don't think any person could justify that type of reaction towards another human being, especially in a business setting. That being said, his attitude was horrendous and I will never step foot in there again. read more

I went into this store today to look for wedding invitations.... I started to flip through their books while my fiance parked the car. The gentleman working came up to me and quite rudely asked if I had an appointment (which I did not... the website did not mention needing an appointment just to view invitation samples). After letting him know I did not he basically told me that I would not be able to be helped that afternoon because "it seems like everyone decided to come in at the same time". Mind you there was only one other couple in the store at that time. I was pretty annoyed by how rude he was coming across so I told him I could just leave and he said "We can probably work something out". He was unaccommodating and obviously did not value our business. By this time my fiance had arrived to the store I promptly left. There is no way we were going to give our business to someone who did not want it. Earlier in the day we had been to The Paper Source on Armitage who was super friendly, helpful and actually appreciated our business. Needless to say we are going with The Paper Source to order our wedding invitations!! Save your time and just go to The Paper Source when ordering invites. read more

Working with Colin was one of the highlights of my wedding planning experience. After trying to explain my ideas/vision to other stores I was starting to feel defeated.
