The servers were super nice. Some of the few that we encountered that were friendly. Most places did not allow us to split bills but we were able to. These are small plates, but enough to fill us up. Really tasty dishes. Just take a look at the pics and try for yourself if you are in the area. I would definitely go back. The snails were really tasty. Don't knock it till you try it. The chorizo i am not too crazy about because the cuts were a little thick. The tomato bread is good, but they have this in almost every restaurant. Razor clams are one of my faves. Really delicious. All in all, everything was delicious!!!

Very impressed and I highly recommend! I am a foodie and a mad cook most days. I enjoy doing research on legitimate, authentic and worthwhile foods/dining experiences and rarely write reviews but this place is LEGIT. I am probably harder to please when it comes to eating out. So there are my credentials if you decide to take time to read. The seafood is what this place specializes in from what I could tell (which is not to say other items are poor, it's just that we had seafood both times)- so that's what makes this establishment worth your time and money. Manuel is a server of 20 yrs. He saw us trying to stumble around and make decisions with the menu and quickly suggested he just serve us what he thought we would enjoy. Spot on. Dishes served: tomato bread, scallops, small fried anchovies, jamon, chorizo with boiled ham, potatoes and greens, medallions of tender savory perfectly cooked beef with peppers, sauteed shrimp, salad mixta (no greens but rather tomatoes, tuna, olives and onions in a tangy vinegar olive oil dressing), octopus with potatoes, fresh oysters, small baby fried squid, razor clams and a beef tripe garbanzo dish which I don't know what to call in English. We were a group of 6 and we ate there on our first night and on our last night- both times we inhaled basically everything. What makes this a standout place is the friendly, family style customer service as well as the truly fresh seafood- the flavors, subtle textures you can only get with the freshest seafood and hint of the sea in every bite and minimal seasonings- really evoke feelings of euphoria and joy when eating these dishes!! The octopus had the texture of the most tender chicken breast- not flavor, but texture. It was that tender- and I used to think a slightly rubbery chewy charred piece of octopus in California was adequate. The food, service is rustic in a warm fun-loving way. They brought out two jugs of wine at our last dinner- it's not olive oil and balsamic in the pic w jugs. If you are staying in Barcelona and want an exemplary, comfortable, extremely delicious and authentic seafood experience, visit this place. Oh and in case you were curious- for a party of 6 and with all those dishes plus beer, wine- the bill was about 150-160 euros each time. I know that if we ordered that much seafood and drink in California, the bill would easily be at least $250-at least.

To be perfectly honest, we only came here because Tickets rejected us and we were too late for Bodega 1900. Figured, it was a 4 star rating place so we would have dinner there. The server is extremely nice, he didn't speak much English but definitely worked with us and gave us an English menu. Decided to order the gambas (shrimp), octopus, and razor clams. The octopus was overcooked, which had a mushy texture. The shrimp was decent, but definitely didn't stand out compared to other local tapa bars. This was my first experience with razor clams and I do have to say it's not too bad. I've heard it's a Barcelona staple, so if you end up here, do order it. It's definitely a locals place with local palate, there are definitely better places around town.

Definitely felt we were hustled after eating here. My girlfriend and I came in and was greeted by our waiter. He was pretending that he did not know how to speak English so it made it pretty confusing ordering our first round of tapas. We essentially had to point at what we wanted which was no big deal. He came back and had a bottle of seltzer water for us when we didn't even ask for it. We tried to give it back but he couldn't understand us, so we were stuck with it. We didn't want to let that ruin our meal so we wanted to order some wine. He kept recommending the really expensive bottled wines when we only want their cheaper house red. This is when I noticed that his English has improved and that he understood a lot more than he led off. After some back and forth we were able to order half a liter of their house red but at that point I was pretty much done with this place. It also didn't help that we found a tiny worm crawling in one of the oysters. This is by far the worst place we ate at during our 3 days in Barcelona!

Similar to some of the other reviews, they will try to cheat you if you don't speak Spanish! The food was decent but a couple of shady points: 1. When we order beer, they gave us the larger size without asking which we prefer. I'd only realize that there was a smaller size then the table of Spanish speakers beside us ordered beers. 2. When the check came, there were clearly a couple of dishes that they double charged us for. When we brought it up to the waiter he said he didn't know. The food was decent enough but definitely not worth the trouble.

Extremely satisfied! Salpicón de pulpo was delicious and the Pulpo Gallego as well. I have a thing for soups and I tried el Caldo Gallego...delicioso. A must if you find yourself in Barcelona.

We were wary coming into the location due to the reviews about scamming foreigners. For the most part, we did not have this experience. I think the general vibe of this place is a lot more casual and laidback with a no-nonsense attitude. This is clearly not targeted to tourists as the interior and exterior of the restaurant is very lowkey. They do have a variety of menus in different languages to accomodate non-Spanish speakers. This was one of our last meals in Barcelona and for the most part, the food was OK. We got the calamari, which was probably the favorite - a large portion size, very crispy, and delicious. We ordered a plate of jamon, which was quite underwhelming. It seemed as though it was not a fresh portion because the slices were roughly cut, thicker, and dryer than what we were accustomed to at other locations. The galician beef and the octopus with potatos were both OK. The only challenge we had was when it came to check out. We attempted to pay with the remainder of our euros and put the rest on the credit card. The clerk with the card scanner was having a little difficulty calculating the remaining amount owed on card, but we didn't necessarily attribute the miscalculation to "taking advantage" of foreigners. In summary, reasonable food with average service and reasonable prices, but nothing to phone home about.

This place has great food at reasonable prices. We also had a great time chatting with Rene. He was very nice and he speaks different languages (spanish and english). I would try this place if you are in Barcelona. Get the pulpo, the peppers, gambas and their razor clams. Yum!!

If you like exotic seafood this is the place to be! Tried percebes for the first time, along with small snails and large snails. Enjoyed every minute of it. We also got the tripe which was very mild in flavor and extra fatty. So good! The octopus and potatoes were also yummy but everything else stole the show. Oysters were sea salty briney goodness. Must try!

    Michelle M.

Their fried squid was actually octopus, soaking so much in oil that it should be below any restaurant standard. Their grilled shrimps was quite okay. The rest was average. Not a big culinary experience but we did get full from the tapas.

Didn't get into Bodega1900 next door and we came here instead. Price was cheap enough. But the food taste sometimes too bland or too salty. I liked the scrambled eggs and potatoes though, simple enough. Bread was so dried and cold and hard that shouldn't be served to the table. Having said that, it's still worthwhile for the price. Perfect place for seafood on budget.

The service was excellent, our server spoke English and knew so much about American pop culture. He even sang NSYNC songs to us while serving us dishes. As for the food let's get into it: - Lobster Croquettes (8/10) We've had a lot of croquettes this trip, but these were on another level, get one per person. - Paella (7.5/10) Different style of paella from other places we went. It was almost like a paella curry, which was still rich and delicious. - Squid Sandwich (10/10) This is hands down the best appetizer I've ever had. The squid was packed with flavor and the mayo sauce they used paired perfectly. Order one per person, and be prepared to order another to go. - Garlic Shrimp (8/10) Solid entree paired with sourdough bread. Dip that bread into the sauce and you'll be satisfied. - Aged Beef Steak w/ Foie Gras (9/10) This might be one of the best steak dishes I've had traveling abroad. It was cooked perfectly, and came with a potato crust on the bottom and Foie Gras on top. Definitely a must order. Overall a great experience, from the service and ambiance to the quality of the food, this is a must try when visiting Barcelona. Would I go again? Absolutely!

Cañete was booked out for 2 weeks straight, so we decided to risk it and see if we could get a spot as walk-ins; and were lucky enough to want less than 5 minutes before being sat at the "bar" in front of the open kitchen, which is honestly the best seat in the house IMHO. You get to see all the 'action' and interact with the friendly and often funny staff. Everything in the menu we tried was fantastic, but a few standouts for me were the squid sandwich (do yourself a favor and try it, even if you aren't a "squid person" the bread is fresh, and the butter garlic sauce they use should be sold in bottles at the supermarket), the lobster croquet was refreshing, and the aged beef steak with foie and truffle sauce was delicious and cooked to perfection.
