Galician steak over crispy fries and blistered padron peppers all with finishing salt
    Dino D.

Solid local bar/restaurant in eixample neighborhood. Had the Galician steak €22, grilled lobster €20 and a half order of mussels with white wine €12. Steak came on a bed of fries and some padron peppers. Lobster came on a bed of mussels and clams. Service was fine even though they don't really check on you so you have to call them over if you need something. Lobster was slightly over done and stuck to the shell but still tasty.

I just got back from a week long vacation to Spain and O Retorno was the first dinner we had when we were there. It was a random find but let me just say, it was the best dinner we had all trip and we raved about it constantly, wanting to go back again. Sadly, we didn't have time as we only had 3 days in Barcelona :( I can see why other reviewers here saying that tourists aren't exactly "welcome". We definitely felt that way as we were standing and waiting for a table (it was crazy packed that night), and wanted to leave to find another restaurant, but thankfully we didn't. When we actually sat down for service, everyone was friendly and helpful. A few of the servers definitely didn't look too happy, but it wasn't a big deal. So onto what we actually ordered: - 1/2 Octopus with cachelos: Amazing. If you like octopus, you can't go wrong with this. - Ham (I think it was the 1/2 portion of black leg ham?): Started my week long craze of Jamón in Spain, literally. Everywhere we went, I had to stop for some more ham and cheese at the little shops because unlike the packaged deli meats we have in the states, this ham is fatty/tender and absolutely delicious. You've been warned, I am officially addicted. - Mariscada O'Retorno (seafood platter for two): The portion is definitely big for two people. Seafood was fresh, tasted great, and price was very reasonable for the amount of seafood you got. There were giant prawns, shrimp, mussels, clams, and razor clams. Ugh.... drooling just thinking about it again. - Some kinda giant cake for dessert, I don't remember the name of it. Just yum, great way to end the meal. If you are in the area, this is a must try. Make reservations if you can!

Mark this on your list of "Try BCN food"!! Such a tiny place with lots of fresh and amazing dishes. I wanted to order the entire menu. But that was not going to happen, cause I ordered half of the menu!! Well the main dishes that is shown on Yelp and that caught my eye of this place. Passing by many times and seeing the crowd made me want to go. Which thankfully I did. We order the ham and potato, prawns, octopus and potato, shishito peppers, squid and potato, bread with tomato and olive oil, potato brava and soda. Geez everything was with potato. Well that is Spain for you. All the stuff we ordered was so delish and flavorful. Not one of the dishes disappointed. Thankfully we only orders half the sizes. My daughter was so full! She loved the prawns and potato. My mom liked the squid and potato but she was so over potato she needed bread. LoL. What so crazy about this place is the kitchen so tiny. The bathroom were clean. And pretty much the entire place was tiny and clean. The workers so friendly and they spoke English. This place is a gem! I would return in a heart beat!!

My absolute favorite restaurant I went to when I was in Barcelona. We came really early around 5pm, and were seated right away . they have a bar style seating in front of the bar, and tons of seating outside, my dad and I got a seat deep inside the restaurant near the kitchen. Fortunely they have English / Spanish mix menus here so we were able to order from that, the people whom work here are very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the razor clams, prawns, patatatas bravas, and the veal with the potatoes and shishito peppers. The prawns and razor clams were my absolute favorite dishes, super fresh and tasty lightly salted and they cooked them just under the point of being cooked all the way so when it reached our table they were soo tender and yummy, oh my god. Only 8-9 euro per dish, even the meat dish which was massive. The meat was really chewy though and more than 50% fat do not much to eat. The serving of patatas bravas was insane as well, the next time I come to Barcelona I will make it a point to come eat here but will only order the seafood. The owner also gave us free shots on the house ! It was a great ending to our trip .

The food was really good at the king crab was awesome. We had also octopus which I really need to get used to it but that is only my preference. I loved the meat it was seasoned very well and very tender with the potato and the bell pepper i loved it. If you are looking for ambience you are at the wrong place, if you are looking for good food... go and try it!

Incredible galecian food in central Barcelona. The "pulpo gallego" was amazing, as well as the "buñuelos de anchoa".

Octopus with potatoes!! This is half portion...

This was a great place to try typical Barcelona dishes. We went here for dinner and sat outside! We got the octopus with bavarian potatoes which was delicious! The octopus was fresh and tender. We also got the prawns in garlic sauce - also very good! The place gets packed around 10 - 11 PM. Would highly recommend having a reservation.

Many locals/regulars were clearly there, but there is English on the menu. My recommendation is to order the smallest size plate of everything because the dishes are huge. Everything we tried was very flavorful and delicious. The tripe was cooked in a delicious soup with garbanzo beans, and the octopus was slightly salty and sprinkled with paprika. We saw so many tables with huge dishes, which tipped us off that we needed to order smaller, which was still more than we needed. The waitress (she wore glasses) was very gracious with our Spanish, and our neighboring table kindly explained that the orujo they were served was a gratis (free) post-meal brandy. I'm not sure if you have to ask for it, but we did, and it was not on our tab. So, everybody ordered a seafood platter, so we ordered one as well. As we were hungry, we ordered a plate of octopus and potatoes. This was easily one of the best and cheapest meals that we've had. The seafood had simple seasoning - butter and garlic perhaps, but it was so good! It was cooked to perfection. The razor clams, shrimp cooked 3 ways, and mussels were so good! The octopus and potatoes were amazing. The octopus was so tender and the little bit of chili flakes with the potatoes and octopus was so good. It was so good that we wanted to eat here for the last meal in Barcelona, but the closes early. How sad! Must come if you love seafood!

We arrived just after lunch opening and were the first customers. The guy at the counter was... efficient. He simply told us to pick what we wanted, tossed it in a bin, and that was that. No explanation of pricing or preparation methods. When we asked how they'd cook it, he casually offered "fried or grilled." Obviously, we chose grilled--why fry fresh seafood? We picked two giant prawns, two octopus tentacles, and two fish (since hubby can't have shellfish). He asked if we wanted salad or soup--reviews hyped the soup, so we went with that. Then he handed us a receipt, told us we were order #3, and sent us to the bar. At the bar, we ordered two sangrias and a water. The bartender asked if we wanted bread and sauce. Sure, why not? We assumed they were included. Surprise! The tiny baguettes cost €0.50 each, and the mystery "house sauce" (a questionable mix of thousand island and horseradish) was an extra €1. We only realized the charge when we saw the total: €73. Oh well, too late now. Then came the food pickup experience--chaotic, to say the least. The server practically barked at us to bring our receipt, aggressively crossed off items, and handed over soups and octopus, crammed onto a greasy tray. No effort at plating, just food haphazardly dumped onto plates. The second round--grilled fish and prawns--was more of the same. Now, the verdict: Soup (5/5) - Delicious and reasonably priced at €6. Would order again. Bread & Sauce (0/5) - Not free, not worth it. Hard pass. Octopus (€31.80 for two tentacles, 1/5) - Overpriced, greasy, and drowning in molten salt. Basically, eating a sodium bomb. Grilled Fish (€10.50 & €8.50, 3/5) - Decent, but unnecessarily oily. Grilled Prawns (€5.59, 0/5) - Mushy, not fresh, and borderline inedible. Final thoughts? Not worth it. With so many incredible food spots in Barcelona, why waste your meal quota here? If you want quality seafood, go to Cervecería Catalana--we spent €5 more, but a meal a thousand times better. Spend wisely and eat like a king.

Two of us picked 5 types of seafood, a salad and a fish soup. We tried the sangria as our drinks. Everything is beyond fantastic! We would highly recommend this seafood gem to all our friends. Here are a few tips for the first timers: 1) The workers at the order area don't understand English well. We pointed at the seafood for ordering. 2) Recommended to have the fish soup over mixed salad as an appetizer. The fish soup is made with lots of fish and ginger; and it carries so much flavor. 3) The mussels are a must-have and are so cheap (Under 10 Euros for huge portions). It's recommended to prepare in two ways: white wine and tomato sauce 4) The La Paradeta sauce (I e. A green basil sauce) goes very well with shrimps and razor clams. 5) The fried calamari was so delicious and perfectly paired with drizzles of lemon juice. Yet, it's so expensive (24 Euros for a very small portion). It doesn't feel as worth it as compared to something like lobsters (29 Euros/single lobster). 6) I noticed many people ordered a bottle of wine instead of Sangria. Will need to try next time!
