Fried fishes - these were good, also a little less fried that I would've like it or got in another place. Octopus - this was okay as well, a little on the bland side.. or and some of the tentacle holes had sand.. or rocks.. Environment This was a nice little place with indoor and outdoor seating. There There is also bar area but I am guessing it is more outdoor or indoor. Niceness of the staff Super nice staff, I knew little to no spanish and the waitress was very patient and also got someone else to help. But either way I got what I needed and she was attentive. Solid local bar/restaurant in eixample neighborhood. Had the Galician steak €22, grilled lobster €20 and a half order of mussels with white wine €12. Steak came on a bed of fries and some padron peppers. Lobster came on a bed of mussels and clams. Service was fine even though they don't really check on you so you have to call them over if you need something. Lobster was slightly over done and stuck to the shell but still tasty. read more

I just got back from a week long vacation to Spain and O Retorno was the first dinner we had when we were there. It was a random find but let me just say, it was the best dinner we had all trip and we raved about it constantly, wanting to go back again. Sadly, we didn't have time as we only had 3 days in Barcelona :( I can see why other reviewers here saying that tourists aren't exactly "welcome". We definitely felt that way as we were standing and waiting for a table (it was crazy packed that night), and wanted to leave to find another restaurant, but thankfully we didn't. When we actually sat down for service, everyone was friendly and helpful. A few of the servers definitely didn't look too happy, but it wasn't a big deal. So onto what we actually ordered: - 1/2 Octopus with cachelos: Amazing. If you like octopus, you can't go wrong with this. - Ham (I think it was the 1/2 portion of black leg ham?): Started my week long craze of Jamón in Spain, literally. Everywhere we went, I had to stop for some more ham and cheese at the little shops because unlike the packaged deli meats we have in the states, this ham is fatty/tender and absolutely delicious. You've been warned, I am officially addicted. - Mariscada O'Retorno (seafood platter for two): The portion is definitely big for two people. Seafood was fresh, tasted great, and price was very reasonable for the amount of seafood you got. There were giant prawns, shrimp, mussels, clams, and razor clams. Ugh.... drooling just thinking about it again. - Some kinda giant cake for dessert, I don't remember the name of it. Just yum, great way to end the meal. If you are in the area, this is a must try. I came here for the Seafood Paella and it did not disappoint. It was perhaps 30 minutes before noon so the paella wasn't ready, but they allowed me to order it for 1 person. While waiting, I ordered a bottle of red wine and drank it while listening to the locals chatting it up. I don't think they really like tourists, so I waited about 20 minutes before anyone took my order. If you are in a rush, then I wouldn't recommend this spot. If you have time and want to eat awesome paella, then you gotta come try it here. It was the best paella I had during my stay in Barcelona! read more

Mark this on your list of "Try BCN food"!! Such a tiny place with lots of fresh and amazing dishes. I wanted to order the entire menu. But that was not going to happen, cause I ordered half of the menu!! Well the main dishes that is shown on Yelp and that caught my eye of this place. Passing by many times and seeing the crowd made me want to go. Which thankfully I did. We order the ham and potato, prawns, octopus and potato, shishito peppers, squid and potato, bread with tomato and olive oil, potato brava and soda. Geez everything was with potato. Well that is Spain for you. All the stuff we ordered was so delish and flavorful. Not one of the dishes disappointed. Thankfully we only orders half the sizes. My daughter was so full! She loved the prawns and potato. My mom liked the squid and potato but she was so over potato she needed bread. LoL. What so crazy about this place is the kitchen so tiny. The bathroom were clean. And pretty much the entire place was tiny and clean. The workers so friendly and they spoke English. This place is a gem! I would return in a heart beat!! read more

My absolute favorite restaurant I went to when I was in Barcelona. We came really early around 5pm, and were seated right away . they have a bar style seating in front of the bar, and tons of seating outside, my dad and I got a seat deep inside the restaurant near the kitchen. Fortunely they have English / Spanish mix menus here so we were able to order from that, the people whom work here are very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the razor clams, prawns, patatatas bravas, and the veal with the potatoes and shishito peppers. The prawns and razor clams were my absolute favorite dishes, super fresh and tasty lightly salted and they cooked them just under the point of being cooked all the way so when it reached our table they were soo tender and yummy, oh my god. Only 8-9 euro per dish, even the meat dish which was massive. The meat was really chewy though and more than 50% fat do not much to eat. The serving of patatas bravas was insane as well, the next time I come to Barcelona I will make it a point to come eat here but will only order the seafood. The owner also gave us free shots on the house ! It was a great ending to our trip . read more

We are ordering a 1 tapas pork, instead of this they give us a huge portion of 2 racinones that will hard eatable for 6 people. They charge 35 euro for this. They trying to push you to pay for the bigger portions instead of tapas. They have to explain what are you ordering. If you call yourself as good restaurant you have to speak a minimum English and explain how big is the portion. If you ordering a tapas don't bring 2 raciones. Bacalao crockets has no Bacalao taste at all, only potato. Very bad read more

Wow!!!! This place was amazing! The best shrimp and octopus I will probably ever have in my life!!! My two friends that have lived in Barcelona had never heard of it, but were as impressed with it as I am. The Galician Octopus was eyes-rolling-back-in-your-head good, and we had more than enough with just the 1/2 order to share, and the shrimp were so sweet and fresh that you would swear that they just crawled out of the sea. We also had mussels, which were good, but surprisingly, the shrimp were much better. The service was great too. Give yourself enough time to fully enjoy this food, and expect a little bit of a wait for the table, but man, it is so worth it!! Do not miss this place if you are travelling to Barcelona, it was simply amazing. read more

The food was really good at the king crab was awesome. We had also octopus which I really need to get used to it but that is only my preference. I loved the meat it was seasoned very well and very tender with the potato and the bell pepper i loved it. I hate to give one star reviews but I resonate with the other bad reviews: this restaurant does not welcome tourists. There were several open tables, but the staff either pass you off to another staff & you get lost in the crowd, or they tell you "no tengo" without even looking at you in the eyes. The salads are huge..could easily share.I had a tomatoes blue cheese salad, large slices of tomato alternating with mild onion,with plenty of great blue cheese spread around, had a balsamic glaze , and olive oil.my husband had the green salad with Tuna, again large salad but delicious. I had vegetable paella..was very good, asparagus, eggplant mushrooms, peas etc, Husband had the rabbit..he loved it. We splurged and had the flan with ice cream for dessert..again wow! "It's not fancy..." said our cab driver, after I asked him his fave place to eat in Barcelona. O'Retorno is apparently where all the cabbies like to eat. We got our hotel to make a booking for 9PM (we're finally getting into the swing of this late dining the locals do) and when we got there, we were told the little covered outdoor patio seating was "complet" - as in booked out. But we had a reservation? The never wrote our name down. No problem - they seated us in the narrow , brightly lit interior section, next to the bar. We had been advised to order the half portions - make sure you do that! We got a large place of the tomato-rubbed baguette (cold) and then an order of octopus. Mixed salad came with canned tuna. Huge. The brimming plate of octopus came out within 2 minutes - no exaggeration (they use microwave ovens) and it was absolutely tender, tasty and super delicious. Mounds of chunks of octopus on top of soft (overcooked but yummy) potatoes, all sprinkled with paprika. We also polished off a bottle of the only white wine they offered, which was fantastic. As soon as I saw that "half" plate of octopus, I immediately canceled my half order of prawns. Would not have made a dint in it... Best part? The entire meal cost E40. Super no-frills experience - great if you want a cheap meal after some of the more fancy places. And when we left - that patio was jam packed with locals. Great place - try it - but don't expect fine food - just cheap & tasty fare and lots of it. read more

Best of all the bill was extremely reasonable, even with some drinks. It's a real happening place. Almost forgot to mention this. We showed up without a reservation and the place was packed. we went into the restaurant to get on a waiting list, but there isn't any. One of the locals instructed us onthe custom for getting a seat at the counter - when folks have finished eating and have paid their bill, hover and swoop in to get a seat. It was great sitting at the counter and we struck up conversation with the locals, who were very welcoming. Thumbs up to this local restaurant. The food is authentic Catalan for locals. Found it on Yelp near the hotel where we stay. Despite the language barrier, the lady owner "refused" to serve us the full portion that we asked for. In the end we were thankful to her because there would no way we could have finished the full portions of the octopus accompanied with potatoes and steamed mussels with olive oil seasoning. The half portions were already very generous. The bill for the two main courses, a big bottle of spring water and a pint of beer only came out as €28.
