Came with a group who couldn't decide what to eat for dinner, so we went to the Island food court. A few others and I wanted to try Punjabi Tandoor, so we ordered some stuff to share, and my oh my was it delicious. I got the shrimp vindalu, which had great flavor. Each bite was a flavor explosion to my tastebuds. The shrimps were very tender, and the potatoes soaked up the sauce so well. Paired with the garlic naan, the meal was simply divine. Not only was the food amazing, the man behind the counter with the curly mustache was incredibly nice. He gave us recommendations, described some of the food, and even chatted with us a bit since the store wasn't too full. Since we were all so happy with our experience, we decided to go back the next day for lunch! This time I ordered the chicken lunch combo, which came with rice and naan, and I chose to get butter chicken and chicken curry. The lunch meals are premade and served from warming tubs, as opposed to the made to order dinner meals. It was still very delicious however! The butter chicken had a rich, pungent flavor, and the meat had a deep red color, I'm assuming from hours of marinating. The chicken curry was great as well, but not quite as good as the butter chicken. I also got a mango lassi, which I had heard all about but had never tried. It was super creamy and sweet, and was perfect to wash down the spicy curry. This restaurant has a few other locations all across SoCal, and each one is owned by a different members of the family, which we learned by talking to the man behind the counter. I stopped in 30 minutes before they closed, and I was treated super warmly even though it was clear they were winding down for the day. I decided to get a mango lassi, naan, and chicken makhani, and the woman working the counter asked if I was ordering just for myself. When I said yes, she recommended the combo which includes rice and naan. I love a combo, and this one sounded like a really good deal. It also came with the option to get double chicken makhani or to add another entrée selection. I chose the malai kofta. I appreciated her suggestion, and considering how late I was there, I left a nice tip. When the order was ready about 10 minutes later, she told me that she had thrown in a couple of extras. Instead of making me feel like a burden for coming in late, they treated me with kindness and generosity. I say all of this not so everyone who goes here expects freebies toward the end of the night, but so that you know the service is top-notch and the food is a great value even without the bonus add-ons. If I find myself over here again while I'm still in San Diego, I will absolutely pick up takeout from Punjabi Tandoor. read more

I don't know a lot about Indian food, but I know I like this place. The lunch specials are a great deal and you get to pick 2 different entrees. I love the Butter Chicken and Mushroom Masala. Try it! The server was down right rude to me-I won't pay to be treated like that again. The food was not good either. It is like a Panda Express but Indian style with all of the food ready to go. This was our family's go to for authentic family recipe Indian cuisine for years. Both Corona and Carlsbad were amazing. Not sure how Corona is doing because they are different members of the family. My favorite restaurant for Indian cuisine! I've filled my stomach to maximum capacity here several times and have felt great there after, fully charged on nutrition thereafter! I usually get the paneer, samosas, and garlic Naan bread! It's very affordable because it's mostly a to go restaurant, unless you want to sit down and eat outside there you do have the option to self serve and seat yourself at the outdoor food court seating area near the big fountain. Juliana, my fifteen-year-old daughter, decided she's vegetarian (mostly vegan -- making meals extra fun at my house) for the pandemic and ordered meatless: Baingan Bharta, a roasted eggplant curry, Alu Mater, a pea and potato curry, Vegetable​ Pakora, and the aforementioned (pea and potato) Samosas. their eggplant curry is outstanding and their Samosas the best in the hood. Wyatt, who had Lamb Korma for his birthday (two days ago), had the Chicken Tikka Masala. little surprised the chicken wasn't leftover tandoori (the origin of the mostly British dish is, like fried rice, about managing leftovers) but had plenty of flavor and the chicken was nice and tender. if not for their Lamb Rogan Josh, my Korma would be the best Indian dish i've had this year. i'll begrudgingly​ concede theirs is better even if only by the slimmest​ of margins. lots of appetizers (chat) and mango lassis, and lots of leftovers. life is good, even in a pandemic. ps: i also left a 20% tip for takeout. let's let them know how much we appreciate their being open. read more

I love the one in Mira Mesa but this one falls short. We got it to go. I got Chicken tikki masala and lamb one. Mine was fine but my fiancé's one was so pathetic looking. His chicken tiki masala had no sauce. It basically was dry chicken and a tad bit of sauce. You dip your naan twice in everything was gone. It was so dry without the sauce. He was so disappointed. I felt bad so I gave him whatever I had. Next time- definitely going to check it before we leave the premises to see if they put enough sauce with the chicken tiki masala. read more

While in Carlsbad looking at a project for the city, I came across Punjabi Tandoor while searching for a place to eat for lunch. Punjabi Tandoor is located in a small indoor/outdoor food court in this quite busy industrial park. There's also a ton of other great restaurants in the food place which I hope I get to try them all plus this has a really cool courtyard to enjoy your meal. I chose the Curry Chicken with rice and the spicy eggplant as my combo, which also included a big piece of naan and a small side dish of milk rice.
