Another plate of pernil (roast pork/pork shoulder), rice with pigeon peas and macaroni salad. There are different types of rice options and also other sides to choose from like potato salad and a green salad. They don't always have the same options so be sure to check to menu ahead of time if you're wanting something specific. For dessert, flan, which I thought was the best. The caramel wasn't overly cooked which could give it a bitter taste.

We also had Jarritos sodas-- I got the pineapple and she had the tamarind. One awkwardness was that the menu didn't have any prices, but I assumed (correctly) that nothing would be crazy expensive that we ordered (though weirdly the tamarind and pineapple Jarritos were different prices). Service was good-- although English was a second language, our server made do, accurately took our order, and was attentive. As other reviewers noted, this is not a speedy place-- I think it was at or maybe over 20 minutes to get our food, but that was fine. Both dishes were really good. The creamy sauce on the mofongo was to-die-for... so yummy. And I enjoyed my plantain/ beef dish-- my dining partner said it was somewhat analogous to "nachos" in a funny way, and she's not wrong. The plantains were pretty stiff-- almost like plantain chips, but still yummy, and the beef and accompaniments were excellent (see photo). The quantity was HUGE-- both of us had enough easily for a second meal. Price wasn't bad-- with the drinks and tax and tip, it was slightly over $50 total. Overall, I'm very happy we tried this place, and I have every intention of coming back.

We ordered 2 beef empanadas & 2 shrimp empanadas for our appetizers. The waitress was pleasant, took or order and returned with 2 chicken empanadas and 2 shrimp empanadas. We did not touch the petit dishes as she placed them on the table but we reiterated to her, "We said beef empanadas." Hoping that was what she intended to say, but she said something like, oh, I told them chicken, hold on I'll be back". She was gone several minutes, returned to our table and said, "I'm sorry, we do not accept orders back. All sales are final. They told me it would just have to be on me." The waitress was a college student and we could see the stress in her eyes of having to pay for her mistake so my husband said, "It's okay. We will pay for it just bring me 2 beef empanadas at 2 dollars each for the additional empanadas.", applying the principal of the additional charge that was listed on the menu. The empanadas were good. In addition, we ordered the seafood paella, which the saffron infused rice was overcooked, along with the shrimp & lobster tail which were rubbery due to being overcooked. Another waitress came over to our table and asked how our meal/experience was and told us to be honest and we were. She offered an explanation that they only had 2 cooks cooking in a space she marked with the expanse of her hands as being very small. We were honest with her and she told us she would let the manager know. My husband asked to speak with the manager. Our waitress told us "She has already left/gone home, but she took care of the empanadas and you were not charged for them". Nonetheless, when we looked at our bill/check, the cost of the empanadas were on the bill. My husband paid the check and WE WILL NOT BE DINING THERE AGAIN. I am especially disappointed that it appears to be a fine establishment and I have never been in a fine restaurant in the US or abroad that did not stand behind proudly behind the art of their cuisine. Also, I have never known any restaurant to operate without the manager being present or an assistant manager being present. Even at McDonald's, the manager will make your order correct if they make a mistake. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU WANT QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE OR IF YOU THINK WHEN A RESTAURANT MAKES A MISTAKE WITH YOUR ORDER THEY SHOULD TRY TO MAKE IT RIGHT. You order your food at the front (bar) and then grab a seat wherever you want. I got a mango margarita which they didn't skimp on the tequila in it! Was sweet enough where I didn't notice at first how much tequila was in it (a win in my book). For dinner, I got the pernil w/cuero which was full of flavor. Tostones were nice and crunchy without being greasy. The rice was just okay, I prefer a bit more sazon and sofrito. I think this restaurant would do well in a more inhabited area instead of connected to the mall but the guy working stated they do very well on the weekends, so I hope it brings them continued business!
