My husband and I stopped into Jack's for dinner, and while the atmosphere was nice, I found the menu challenging due to my gluten and dairy allergies. There were very few options that fit my dietary needs. I ultimately ordered the ribs, but the only sides available to me were the sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. All three items came with sauces, which made the overall meal feel overly sauced and heavy. My husband ordered the hush puppies and said they had good flavor, but they seemed like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while rather than coming out fresh. The ribs themselves were cooked well, but the sauce was extremely vinegar-forward--not sweet, but quite tangy. Combined with the balsamic glaze on the Brussels sprouts and the brown sugar and possible maple syrup on the sweet potatoes, everything together felt a bit overwhelming in terms of sauces and sweetness. For those with food allergies, be prepared to order à la carte and expect limited choices for sides. I would consider dining here again, but next time I'd make more selective choices to better suit my dietary restrictions. read more

We were visiting the area for a sports tournament and wanted a local restaurant with solid food for a team dinner. Jack's exceeded expectations. I called to make a reservation about a month in advance, as we were a group of 26. The staff I worked with over the phone leading up to the dinner was friendly, helpful and communicative. They called to confirm about a week prior and asked if we wanted to create any special menus for our event, which was a very nice gesture. On the day of, the restaurant called for a final confirmation and offered us the private back room for the evening. This worked out perfectly! The food was absolutely incredible and exceeded expectations. The team all enjoyed their meals, which was a variety of orderings, and the adults raved about the dishes ordered, as well. The shrimp and grits was perfection, the French onion soup was flavorful and perfect after a cold, rainy day and the pork chop was seasoned incredibly. The waitstaff worked so hard to accommodate our large group and even helped us divide up billing, which is always a huge ask. Being from Nevada I was sure looking forward to some great "Carolina Cooking" during my recent visit earlier this month and upscale dining at that! Well, my friend swore by Jacks to offer the best steak dinner in Wilson. We were both highly disappointed. We were early (which was probably mistake number 1) for the dinner opening. We (3 of us) were seated near the bathroom area (not an issue) and promptly given the menus and told about the "specials of the day" by the waitress. We had two orders of the special of the day, that being the bone-in pork chop (which were not bad overall but tough to cut) which came with really dried up baked potatoes. I had to wait for the waitress to come back by. That was an issue during the entire meal. We were the only customers in the whole place, and yet I'm guessing that she had other tasks to handle instead of being readily accessible to help us with what we needed, such as the need for butter or margarine to moisten up the potatoes and maybe a refill for the tea. The other order was for a cheese and mac dish. The cheese and mac dish was so salty that it could not be finished at all. Not even a dent was made in that dish, nor, obviously was it suitable for a take home dish. Really disappointing for us. My friend lives nearby and she kept apologizing for the 2-star meal with the 5-star tab. She was utterly embarrassed, as she had told me 2 days earlier that we'd be having the best steakhouse meal ever. read more

We stopped by Jacks today which was recommended by a local customer as a great lunch spot with an excellent Turkey Sandwich. Colleagues got the turkey but I opted for the chicken salad. I really enjoy a simple savory chicken salad which is hard to come by sometimes. Jacks sandwich was well seasoned with celery and onions on some buttered and toasted bread. Very good. The restaurant itself was clean and had courteous wait staff. If I find myself back, I will have to give it a try for dinner. Thanks! read more

Food portions were large and tasted awesome.(My wife fell in love with the cranberry whipped butter). Both of us had filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. Main courses included 2 sides and 1 choice of sauce. Well balanced menu offering beef, chicken, and fish. Comfortable and warm ambiance. The servers were extremely friendly but not fully engaged with the customers needs mid meal and when paying the bill. We will return in the future, the food is reasonably priced and tasty! read more

Upon arriving at Jack's, the host took us to a table for two. I asked if we could have a larger table and she said those were reserved. I explained to her I had made reservations but still sat us at a table for two. So when the waitress came and we placed our order for appetizers, JUMBO LUMP CRAB DIP and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES. She realized the table for two by the entry way was to small to accommodate are order and moved use up on my request I was very dissatisfied with our order, the fried green tomatoes were cold when they arrived at our table. We had ordered a rack of ribs and sweet potatoes which were burnt and the chop that was not 12oz and definitely not a $30 value. I have never been so dissatisfied with my meal. I did not complain to the manager because I didn't not want to make a seen. The service was very nice with friendly staff. I was very disappointed with my food. I ordered a mahi mahi with roasted sweet potato & broccoli. I requested the cook on my dish to be medium but it was overcooked & the sweet potato must have been drenched with sugar. The broccoli was the best thing on the dish. We did get calamari for appetizers & the spicy marinara was delicious. My son's cap steak was overcooked when he asked for medium ruining the expensive cut to almost inedible. The vegetables accompanying it was sweet! My husband's chicken with garlic mashed potato & French beans was good. He ordered dessert too! Had a work lunch here and the room we reserved was very hot with no air flow. Also the carpet and walls were very worn and scratched. We had to continue to swat flies away during our lunch. I'm not sure about my colleagues food but I ordered the smash burger with fries and let me just say that is not a smash burger. That is a regular burger patty but very dry and no flavor. Smash burgers are thin because they are smashed. Just call it a burger, NOT a smash burger. Also fyi, your patty should not be smaller than your bun. The waiter was great, prob the only good thing. I hadn't eaten here in a few years and it will probably be a few more before I return. read more

Sorry to say nothing went well including service. The filet was about the same size as the potato croquette (see pics). So I asked for a crab cake instead. This was cold in the middle with water standing around the bottom of it from thawing (see pics). The asparagus and potato croquettes were good. We were one of two tables. Chef Duji Will Surprise Your Palate Chef Duji is a doozie at Jack's Restaurant in Wilson, NC. After a few art exhibits and receptions in Wilson, we decided to dine as opposed to just eating. The server, Chelsea, was engaging, polite and totally adept at pointing her customers into making the right choice for apps and entrees. Although the restaurant lacks the total ambience a local eatery might offer, it is exceptionally clean, neat and comfortable. Wisely, we chose the shrimp and grits, and Chef Duji went two notches up on any New Orleans restaurant! Superb! And, though a tad sparce, the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer were delectable. It's absolutely a dining delight to find such a restaurant in Wilson. I urge you to try it. Chef Duji and the staff will not disappoint you. read more

Holy cow, what a hidden gem! We were able to make a reservation on line with no issues and were seated right away. Reservation recommended because at 5:15 when we pulled into the parking lot it was filling up fast after opening at 5. Nice sized space with plenty of seating, full bar and a relaxed atmosphere. The food was some of the most flavorful we've had (and we try apt of different places) and cooked perfectly on all fronts. Cass, our server, was on point the entire time, answered our questions and was very attentive as we finished items or needed refills. I had never been to this restaurant in my own hometown before. We had the short ribs and shrimp and grits. The short ribs were delicious, they actually melted in your mouth and were well seasoned. The shrimp and grits while full of flavor had a bit too much salt in the sauce. The shrimp and the grits though were well prepared. The service was excellent, courteous and attentive. Their sweet tea, which I don't usually drink anymore, now opting for water, was especially tasty. I'll be back to try some of the other good looking items on the menu. read more

My only complaint is that for the price level of the menu, the atmosphere and surroundings were blah (grey and black accents) , they should have spent some money on an interior designer to match the price points they are asking. read more

The service was good, however, the food did not stand up to its local reputation. My cheese raviolis were actually "drowning" in a quite flavorless sauce you had to dig into to find the limp tasteless raviolis. My daughter's salmon was almost raw and her maple "glazed" sweet potatoes were maple flavored mush. My grandson had their most expensive steak, which was good. The Brussel sprouts were burned and the sweet potatoes were small pieces of white potatoes. All in all not a good experience but a very expensive one. read more

They have an American Express sticker on their door which would indicate that they accept said card. When the bill arrived (in an AmEx wallet!) and AmEx was given for payment, the server rudely stated that they "had not scraped the sticker off" and they could not accept the card. This was a company meal to be paid with a company card. How do you forget to remove the sticker? Perhaps if the food was better then this could have been overlooked. The risotto was dry and flavorless. The cream spinach was too wet and soggy and also flavorless. Between the poor service and subpar food, I do not recommend this place. read more

I stopped for the night in Wilson and looked on Yelp for a restaurant that wasn't a chain. I am very happy to have found Jack's. Nice atmosphere, well stocked bar, and very good food! I had the French Onion Pork Chop that was on the specials menu. My taste buds are still celebrating. For dessert I had the Vanilla Creme Brulee which was spot on. I would consider making Wilson a regular spot to stop while driving the east coast just to eat at Jacks. read more

The food was amazing. Even if you don't like tomatoes, you'll love the fried green tomatoes. The service was the best. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was nice even over some of the rude customers. This is definitely on my list of favorite restaurants. Pretty disappointed on our entire experience. We made reservations only told be told when we arrived ( we arrived on time) that our table had been given to someone else They then advised that we only could be sat in the bar. In the bar the hostess staff yelled to talk to each other over the top of customers and bartenders were over booked with making drinks and waiting on two large parties on the patio to be able to give good service.I was hit in the face with a mop handle as the busser was cleaning up a spilled drink (hard enough that it left a bruise) the food was ok, but nothing to write home about. First time here was a Sunday, ordered the prime rib steak and cheese and it could have been delicious but the meat was unbearably salty! The French toast was good, nothing fantastic. Loved loved loved the garlic fried so bam Took my mom and daughters the following week and was totally embarrassed at how disgusting the food was, #1 don't ever order the pot roast in wine gravy it was horrible I couldn't even stand it, the garlic fries were nothing like the first order I got the previous week, the chicken sandwich was so hard and dry and my daughter's burger was tasteless. Ate at Jacks last night and were disappointed,where celebrating a birthday. One person ordered beef stroganoff and it had so much garlic in it he couldn't it. He told the waitress she said she got replace it with something else my friend he really wanted the stroganoff so she told the cook to not out much garlic in it.But by then he wasn't hungry so he got it to go. Very disappointing do not waste your time and money! They are understaffed and poorly managed. We waited hours for our food. When it finally came they served half of the table and didn't bring the rest of the food until much later. I spoke to the manager and explained our experience snd he only made excuses. This was the first time trying this place, wait wasn't bad, waited 30 minutes to get seat in the bar, you are not allowed to sit at the bar while you wait, they use it as a table too. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. I've been twice because everyone deserves a second chance. The food is average at above average prices. We were a party of four, our entrees were brought out one at a time, several minutes apart. One filet was undercooked but the second one was well overcooked. The pasta appeared to be no more than butter and cream sauce. It was definitely missing something. The waitress was nice enough to bring a bowl of parmigiana cheese which make it palatable.
