Something Different receives a 5 star review because they have all four of of my criteria covered. Service - was excellent with Southern charm. She called us sugar, sweetie, honey and cutie. She kept the beverages filled. And got the food order right. Food - the food was cooked to order, so it was hot and tasted great. They offer 2 daily specials see the picture of the menu. It was Thursday so they had BBQ Chicken and Hamburger Steak. You get two vegetables and a roll. Deserts were also made daily in house. Fresh food, prompt service, and a nice change from the usual We missed an exit and found this place by chance while traveling south on 95. It was a wonderful surprise. Super friendly service and a warm inviting atmosphere with table linens and seating that is nicely spaced to afford you more intimacy than most places. We shared a couple of the starters: Philly egg rolls and the spinach dip with fresh made pita chips. Both were excellent. We also had the chicken wrap, shrimp wrap, Cobb salad, and the chicken salad. All of the entrees were great. My favorite had to be the fresh cut and fried potato slices- whatever you order, don't miss those! It's a banquet hall and catering business but it does a very brisk brunch business and there were three groups there who were celebrating special occasions, so it can accommodate groups of various sizes pretty easily. read more

Something Different is like going to your Grandma's house. Great food, lots of love, simple, down-home environment. Every plate gets two home cooked vegetables with it, bottomless ice tea, and pretty large desserts. However, you'll be so full you won't be able to add desert unless you have the metabolism of a teenager. I had some great fried flounder with Cole slaw and fried cauliflower. It was super. The fried cauliflower is a little new for me and it was delicious! The staff is quick, friendly, and kind. This is a really super place to eat and you can tell it's an excellent value as the retiree crowd is quite present here. You really get some excellent food for the money. Also, from the menu, you can eat low fat, lots of veggies or go a little heavier with fried fish (in my case) or burgers, steaks, chicken or barbecue. Very diverse menu. read more

Did online order. Went to pick up and restaurant was dead. Hostess could not find my order but proceeded to take another customer's order that walked in five minutes after me. This was the best food I've had eating out in quite a while. Everything was cooked well, and the portions were large. We had the specials, chicken fried chicken and fried pork chops. Many sides were available. This is a rare place where you can get vegetables, not just starchy side dishes. You get a colorful plate that is a well-rounded meal. The setting is pleasant and bright. The catering here was top notch. The ladies were quick, kind, and were so helpful with quick cleanup. All of our wedding guests absolutely LOVED the food and would not stop raving about it all night- especially the veggie lasagna. I love anyone who makes my job easier AND has tasty food! Their tagline is "country club food without the country club price!" Love it! I was referred to Something DIfferent by a client who I was bringing lunch to their office, they actually requested I use this place to cater. Since I was going to be in the Wilson area, I decided to scope the place out first, then bring the food myself since I had never used them before. Something Different is not only a catering option, but it is also a cafe/restaurant with a large menu of homecooked foods. Let me also just tell you that they have a wide range of dessert items which I hear is what they are known for. Their strawberry shortcake is TO DIE FOR! The staff made is as easy as pie (key lime, please) to place an order for the office, and actually had it ready when I arrived. Anyone in the sales world who has to call on offices with lunch in hand knows how rare this is. The dining room was fancy schmancy with white table cloths, but didn't go overboard by making you feel underdresses if you were to show up in jeans and flip-flops (because I saw some folks dressed this way and they looked totally cool). The lunch I ordered was lasagna, salad, garlic bread, the strawberry shortcake, with sweet and unsweet tea. They had it all packaged up for me, gave me all accompanying plates, cups, etc. including ice! They loaded it in my car for me and gave me a menu and delivery service area, which seems to be almost all of NC! The delivery fees are reasonable and the food was VERY reasonable in cost! Very good American style menu. It reminds me of a MCL or Laughners cafeteria from my home state of Indiana, though I believe both of those places have gone the way of the dinosaur, but fortunately Something Different has not. The food while being very simple is very tasty. The only real negative and thus the four stars is that this place was and is primarily a catering service that has opened the restaurant more as a side light business than the main focus so it takes a while for the food to get to you and the service overall is slow, though extremely friendly when they do make it to you. Unfortunately they only have a limited time that they are open, not open on the weekends or for dinner service either that I am aware. The food again, is very good and it is filling. The prices are very reasonable too. The dining room is actually quite large and the place has a large following, though mostly the old guard of Wilson. I think the new guard needs to find the place as well and start supporting it too. They have a daily special, but I got the beef tips and my wife got the angus burger. Both meals were very good and the sides were nice as well. Traditional southern cooking, the sweet tea is really sweet so you may want to cut it with non-sweetened tea. This is a great option for lunch during the week, just make sure you have time to enjoy the meal, figure it will take a full hour. read more

This restaurant is awesome ! The food is delicious, and it's my personal favorite place to eat in Wilson for the variety of food it has. The lasagna is superb, in fact I personally like it much better than the restaurant italian chain we have in Wilson. The chicken-n-pastry is homemade, and cooked to perfection. Something Different is a pretty good restaurant. I have eaten there many times and its always good, which prompted me to order the Thanksgiving meal they offer. I was quite disappointed...The turkey was dry...and the other food (green beans and yams) was just emptied from cans into the oven trays, no seasonings at all. So, dont waste your money, it only saves you from opening cans...but by all means go there and have lunch...you will enjoy it. read more
