Tabby's Place is a special place for special kitties…read more OK, I feel that the humans who work there are special, too. The founder, Jonathan Rosenberg, quit his job to start Tabby's Place. The first time we visited, we were given a tour by Mr. Rosenberg himself. It is clear how passionate he and the other volunteers are about their mission. Their primary concern is cats with severe needs, such as those with debilitating illnesses. Until a cat is adopted, they get the finest medical care at Tabby's Place, no matter how dire their situation is. All of their financial information is available on their website. If you're looking for a shelter to adopt a cat (or two!) from, look no further. I have visited many an animal shelter, and Tabby's Place is outstanding. Of course, they take donations, so please give generously! The last time we were there, they accepted medical supplies and a cat tree from us. Check out the Gift Catalog on their website. Lauren Mary has been harassing me after I told her numerous times to stop contacting me. Lauren has texted and called me numerous times talking down to me as if I am not doing enough for these animals when I am doing my best. She has threatened to call the police on me and report me when these are not my pets. They are feral cats that live near my home. Very unprofessional. I do not recommend this place and I certainly do not recommend Lauren Mary.

They have a walking path through the woods with a natural playground and sandbox, a bird house building to watch and interactive displays, a mini zoo inside a house with small animals and activities including a treehouse. (Admission otherwise is only $3 for adults and $2 for kids 2-17). There's animals/insects inside such as owls, huge cockroaches, giant turtle, snakes. And a cute reading corner full of nature books. There's also a discovery den AKA play area indoors for $1. There's animals/insects outdoors such as turkey vultures, turtles, a butterfly house and a bird observatory (cute on the inside with toys for the kiddos - be sure to read the story about the couple who opened the center). And a natural playscape outdoors. There's also a bunch of fairy houses throughout the property that girl scouts donated. And lots of trails through the forest. They also have Magic Mornings for ages 2-4 Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - but register ahead as they only have a certain amount of spots each day (it's seasonal - they have in fall and spring but not summer - see website). It's an hour class for $10 and includes a snack, craft, nature walk etc. They usually pull out an animal each class. It's great to get some time in nature with other kids. In summer, they have a full week of Magic Mornings in their Itty Bitty Briar Camp. Ms. Heidi teaches it and she is just great. They have a different theme every day such as sun, water, clouds etc and there's an activity each day (visit pond and catch tadpoles, water play, craft pertaining to theme). They have preschool pioneers for ages 4-5 and summer camp for older kids for a week in late June. *Just beware in June that parking is limited due to school field trips and you may not fit in either of the lots; you may have to park out front of the house to the left (which is fine - she just doesn't want buses idling there) They also have field trips to gardens and to the shore, classes for seniors, family nature nights, hot smores nights... Only negative (besides parking, which they can't really control), is the "snacks" for kids at Magic Mornings aren't the healthiest. One was cinnamon sugar graham crackers with whipped cream- regular would have been fine. 2 days were cheddar gold fish. Another day was blue jello with whipped cream. And some red licorice - the kind that whips. Fruit Loops were used for colors. So, if you don't like your child eating sugar, let them know you have a dietary restriction or bring your own snack (snack time is ~10 min and probably not needed but the kids always love snack time!). Some options that would be healthier and just as easy would be pretzel sticks, fruit, crackers, popcorn, veggies, string cheese...but I guess those all cost more besides pretzels/crackers/popcorn.

I always want to get involved and volunteer but my schedule is usually full. This time I decided to do something for a good cause and clear my schedule to volunteer. What an awesome facility for such a great group of people. Mrs. Shriver's vision in 1962 that started as a camp back in Maryland still is just as impactful today; even more so as it was from the bginning, I'm sure. The Special Olympics complex has many modern features to include an exercise room with modern equipment such as elliptical, treadmill as well as bikes. An expansive gymnasium which a variety of events can be played and a library with an array of books as resources for children with delayed developmental milestones. Outside a beautiful patio area and a gazebo compliment the grounds offering peace and a place to go for quiet and fresh air. I had the opportunity to volunteer for the Health Young Athletes Ask A Doc (AAD) program sponsored by the Robert S. Wood Foundation. Not knowing exactly what to expect in my role as a therpaist providing advise to families as well as assisting at the events afforded me to be excited and flexible. The AAD program provided onsite health care professionals to speak to families who had questions about their children with intellectual, social, behavioral and/or physical disbailities. There were physicians, nurses, dentists, speech, occupational and physical therapists as well as dieticians offering their expertise as needed. Moreover, the disciplines were able to interact at the outdoors events with hand help puppets representing various health care providers. But the best part of my 2 day experience was watching the children from ages 2-8 enjoy various obstacles courses under these wonderful big tents that were created, ride bikes, bowl, kick soccer balls, rolls balls,compete in racing activities and other sporting activities. Anyone without a smile on their face, tears of joy and happiness in their eyes and a heart melting watching these kids do things we take for granted, all the while having fun with each other without judgement, prejudice, anger or any negativity, maybe miss the emotional gene of compassion for humanity. When given the opportunity again, I will volunteer but not for only 2 days, but for at least a week or more. Volunteering felt good, it felt right and shows, we make time for what is important to us................

MY EXPERIENCE WITH HOMESHARING -- A WARNING ABOUT SYSTEMIC POLICY FAILURES…read moreI used HomeSharing's services for about 7 years and welcomed several individuals into my home. While the mission is meaningful, my experience exposed serious policy and procedural gaps that homeowners should understand before participating. When a major issue developed in my home, I contacted HomeSharing for support. I was told they could not assist because both parties were considered their clients. This left me without mediation, guidance, or intervention during a situation that ultimately required about $20,000 in legal fees to resolve. Earlier in my involvement, I was introduced to a potential seeker who disclosed a compromised medical condition that had already required hospitalization and rehabilitation. I declined the match due to safety concerns, but the experience raised questions about how placements were screened and whether the organization's policies adequately protect both parties. I also discovered that two people had been placed in my home despite a town ordinance allowing only one. This should have been caught through basic procedural checks. The Lease Agreement offered by HomeSharing did not provide the level of protection I expected, and in my case, it did not help prevent or resolve the situation. I served on the organization's Board for a period of time but chose to resign after these events. Based on my personal experience, I no longer feel comfortable recommending HomeSharing.
