Best workout ever! I've been coming to pure barre at various locations for awhile now and this one lately since moving to Aliso. This one is great, very clean and not as crowded as the Irvine one that I needed to sign up online a week in advance just to get a spot for. In general though, you do need to group this workout with cardio to really see results. read more

I have to travel for work now and then, and I hate when I miss out on my other barre-inspired workout. Luckily for me Pure Barre-Mission Viejo was super convenient to my last Laguna Niguel trip. It took me just a second to scan the shopping center parking lot for its second-floor studio. The instructor was clear. The workout was challenging. The studio was squeaky clean. I found the upper body work at the beginning of class particularly fatiguing, but, I wish there was more time for lower body stretching. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town. Minus one star for a lack of an in-studio restroom/locker room. The building's shared restroom was just a few doors down -- so it was adequate, but just not as glam as the studio. Let's face it, for $25 a single session, I want a luxe experience beginning to end. read more

Pure Barre is a pure challenge, every time. Guys! Pay attention! I have worked out my entire life. As a youth, it was martial arts, soccer, running, downhill and cross country skiing racing. Later came an obsession with 10K races and even marathons, but always mixed with windsurfing, tennis, mountain climbing and weightlifting to make sure I had the muscles to not only excel in these activities, but also to ensure I had the pecs and abs for the girls! Now, decades on, I've continued the workouts that are needed to be fit and healthy, but somewhere about the mid to late 40s, you start to realize that the results don't come as easily as they use to. You literally have to work twice as hard to get something close to the results you want. And the INTENSITY has to be cranked all the way to eleven to get any effect at all. I've done my share of P90X, Crossfit, and stints with trainers, and when we've lived close to a gym that had quality equipment, that was also part of the daily routine. Then, I tried Pure Barre at Mission Viejo. Talk about intensity! Talk about pushing it to the limit every time! Pushing your muscles so hard that they not only burn, but shake uncontrollably, and the burn is so intense that you have to fight for the mind over body, (read pain!!), to not wimp out, and fall out of form, or just crawl out of the room and ask to be kicked with boots because that would hurt less. Most guys will think that since 90+% of the participants are women, that it's just another yoga-laties-aerobicizing-lulu-wearing-after-lattes-hen-party... It's not. While true, there are a lot of lovely ladies in lululemon there,(bonus!), they are there because it's so effective. And so efficient. It's one hour of focused exercises, that if you do it right, will kick your ass, make you sweat through whatever you have on and open your mind to what will transform you and your body, no matter what your current routine is. My work schedule rarely allows me to make a Pure Barre session more than once or twice a week, but if I could, it would be my choice 5 days. I am fortunate that my days are days when Shayna and Cami teach, as instructors vary in there ability to motivate, and those two know how to get every last drop of effort out of me. So, give it a try and you will experience for yourself just what I'm raving about. And, if the lady in your life is not already into it, get them to go with you. It's the gift that keeps on giving. I've been taking Pure Barre for about 200 classes and absolutely love the workout. My thoughts are below: Pros: *Challenging class: I can always count on breaking a sweat and some well-earned soreness the next day. *Friendly and welcoming staff: Kari at the front desk is so great - they are lucky to have her! *Evening class times: Many similar studios cater to housewives and don't offer any classes after 6pm; for working professionals this is absolutely necessary. *Friendly, helpful and welcoming instructors that seem to love their jobs: It really makes a difference. *Strength: Everyone wants to know about results - I've lost about (1) pant size and attend class 3-4x a week. More importantly, however, I feel stronger - and my running is stronger. The # on the scale is bigger than I've ever seen, but muscle weighs more than fat so it doesn't alarm me :) /// Areas for Improvement: *Consistency among instructors: Some instructors are truly amazing (Caroline) and challenge even a seasoned Pure Barre devotee, while others are just okay. It's frustrating when one instructor corrects you to do something, and the next class another instructor corrects you differently. While both are well-intentioned, you leave feeling confused. *Bathroom and Water on-site: It would be nice if I didn't have to put my shoes on, grab and key and run outside down the hallway to use the restroom or fill up my water bottle. *Early AM classes: Would love to see a 5am a few times a week. Monica runs a tight ship with the Pure Barre team - and I quite honestly didn't know just how good they were till I visited the junk show that is San Clemente - Pure Barre. The SC location is akin to a mean-girl sorority, with mediocre teachers that are admittedly 'still learning' and don't yet teach with the same tools. I couldn't wait to come back to MV. Wow! Be prepared to BURN, SWEAT, SHAKE, TUCK, TONE & LIFT. I teach reformer Pilates and have found a new love for Pure Barre.. Pure Barre is very challenging, lots of fun and the instructors are super friendly & energetic! They correct our postures and always encourage us to go down a little lower or work a little harder! I always get a great work out and feel sore and shaky when I leave. The Thigh work and the Seat work are so challenging yet so much fun! I am so happy with the results that I'm seeing.. I've been doing cardio,and reformer Pilates but needed a new challenge and this is definitely it!! I took advantage of the Pure Barre New Client Unlimited package for $100, which was awesome, & when that expired I signed up for the 3-Month Unlimited to continue :) So happy I did! I started taking PureBarre classes at my daughter's urging. She is hooked, and teaches in Ann Arbor. The more classes I took, the more I enjoyed them. I had a hamstring injury that had bothered me for two years. I kept re-injuring it in Yoga. When I stopped Yoga and started PureBarre something amazing happened. My injured leg is much stronger, and I am pain-free for the first time in years. I've been practicing Pure Barre for the past 7 years at various studios! I recently started going to Pure Barre Mission Viejo and I absolutely love it. The method itself is challenging and targets key areas such as arms, core, legs, and seat. The workouts are varied including a "Classic, Empower, and Reform" class that offer intensity levels to fit your needs. I'm currently 4 months post-partum and this method has helped me regain energy, get stronger, and feel so good about myself. I take my time and go at my own pace. All the instructors are so friendly and eager to help you reach your fitness goals. They have great class packages that are tailored to client needs. Also, Pure Barre Mission Viejo has a positive environment where clients and staff are so welcoming. They really make you feel like you are part of this amazing community. I took my first barre class in June 2010 and have been exploring many barre places. This one is my favorite. The staff is always friendly and pleasant. Every time I emailed the owner, Monica about anything, she has always been great. She's also a great instructor and actually, I feel that MV has the best instructors - Pamela, Susan, Megan, Marissa - They give great instruction, keep you motivated throughout the entire class, help correct your form, and really push you to work harder. I always leave feeling like someone kicked my butt, barely able to walk down the stairs, and feeling the burn for hours later. And, the facility is clean. read more

I bought a Groupon to try this studio out as I have only been doing the barre classes in Idaho. I am very pleased with the space and especially pleased with my instructor! She is very good! The platform barre class was different for me but I enjoyed it! The instructor is conscientious about making sure you are correct in your movements! Very important to me so no injuries! Only one visit so far and can't say enough good things!! I was greeted immediately as I walked in and everyone so was SO friendly and nice. I was introduced to everyone (about 5 girls) and immediately felt welcome. Class was an hour long about halfway through I ended up not feeling well that was my fault for not eating prior to the class and so I excused myself and one of the girls came out and checked on me which was super sweet and then she actually called me today to see how I was doing, which was even nicer!! There's not a ton of people that take each class which means the instructor and the other girls can help you out if you're new and all in all it was a great class and vibe I'll be back in a couple of days!! read more

I tried the first week for free and really enjoyed it! I purchased some classes and look forward to challenging myself. I've had 4 different instructors and they have all been great. Each class has been different and very challenging! The hour goes by quickly and the music is good. My only complaint is that the floor mats are a little smelly, even though they are cleaned after each workout. I'm sure it's nearly impossible to prevent this from happening, though. I would highly recommend this class for someone looking for something new and challenging! read more

Was expecting more ballet based work out using the barre. Utilized it mostly for support and balance. Uncomfortably hot in the room even on a rainy day with the sliding glass doors open. Definitely worked muscles I though I knew could get sore from Pilates but this work out kicked my butt!!! Michelle was a great instructor but for new clients with no Pilates/Yoga base knowledge it would be difficult to follow the routines. Also, no restroom available in the studio. My legs seriously have been sore for 3 days. i am athetic and I am used to doin Bikram and many forms of excercise this has been painful on my thighs!!!! The only downfall is it is EXPENSIVE. I am hooked!! My cousin's fiance has been going on and on about how amazing Pure Barre is so I finally decided I'd check it out for myself. I searched online for a nearby location and was SO happy to discover that the MV location was minutes away from my home in Ladera. It was meant to be! It was difficult to find (it was 5:45 a.m. and still dark out) but once I made it in I was not intimidated. The instructor, Amy, introduced herself and offered advice knowing that I was brand new to it. I enjoyed it and the hour went by so fast. My arms and legs were definitely shaking. I am athletic and work out at least 5 x's a week but this workout was still challenging in a whole new way. I am not good about lifting weights being a cardio junkie so I'm happy to have Pure Barre. There are plenty of classes available. If I can make it to classes every day if I want (I work 70 hour work weeks) then I'm sure anyone else can! The only thing I didn't like was that they didn't offer a free class for someone to check it out before committing. You just had to sign up for a month right away. But seeing the results that my cousin's fiance has gotten, I didn't really have to think twice! I'm now trying to do the 20 day challenge with her - go 20 days in November. LOVE LOVE LOVE Pure Barre! As a typical 3-4 times a week gym gal, I never could target my trouble areas until now. The Mission Viejo and Newport Beach studios are very clean and organized. I enjoy that the rooms are kept very cool so the sweat is kept to a minimum. If you are looking to try something new that will tone your core, thighs and butt, this place is for you! Such a great workout! I have been coming for about two months and can definitely see the changes in my body. The workout routine is roughly the same but depending on the instructor, there are variations. warm-up, three thigh sprints, three seat sprints, abs and stretching. AT $25/class its expensive but they have great monthly promotions. I love AMY NGUYEN and MEGAN WEBB. Both girls are very sweet and will come adjust you when you're not aligned properly.
