It's hard to know what to rate when I'm choosing these stars for something other than a food establishment. For Pure Barre, I tried it for the first time today and have to say that I was very impressed with the studio. It's clean, and the shop in the front has a lot of fun headbands, hair ties, and workout wear. I didn't shop around to check out the prices, as I'm not in the market for anything, but there were definitely a lot of option. The owner and staff are so friendly and helpful. I had made a reservation for the noon class, arrived a few minutes early, filled out my form, and it was time to step inside. The warmup is intense! One of my friends told me that the warmup is pretty serious, and she wasn't joking. It was the only time we really worked on arms or with the hand weights, though. All of the other parts of the 55 minutes were spent targeting tummy, seat (butt), and thighs. And that whole lift. tone. burn. motto? Yup! You do all of the above. I could feel the burn the entire time, and even with the teensy movements we were supposed to make it was amazing the amount I felt it in every part I was supposed to. The instructor knew what she was doing. She demonstrated every activity and made herself visible to everyone in the room. There was only one time in the class where I didn't understand what we were doing, but it wasn't because she wasn't showing us. Some of the movements on the ab section are so small when sitting against the wall that I just couldn't tell what I was supposed to be doing. I did learn after the class that there is an intro class offered to newbies to learn about the different terminology. To be honest though I'd rather just come to a few of these and pick it up as you go. My thighs and hips are already sore and I love it! I wore an HRM, and in one 55 minute class I burned 290 calories. That's not to take away from what it did for my muscles and starting the journey to being more lean. I definitely will continue to go back, and I can see myself becoming addicted. It isn't a cardio workout, though there were a few times where my heart rate did elevate to a medium difficulty cardio level. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the cost, but it's something that I'll just have to swallow. It's so hard for me to pay $20 for an individual class of anything. There are packages offered for introductory members and for group packages, but it doesn't go much lower than $15-$16/class. It's a little more expensive than going to yoga, but the benefits will also be greater I believe. If it weren't so much, I could see myself going on a much more regular basis. Boutique workout classes, though, tend to be costly. You do get what you pay for with individual attention and well educated instructors. I did learn too that every class each day will be the same, but that different days follow different formats and exercises. It makes me excited to continue seeing the different exercises that are options in Pure Barre! read more

I wanted to like this business and hoped the owner would prove me wrong. That was not the case. An incident took place on 9/11 with Anne (an instructor doing a round Robin/asking for our medical info.) and the young front desk assistant (who claimed she would notate my request for Shannon (the manager) to contact me ASAP. 3 weeks later and a contact to their corporate HQ turns out the young lady was simply faking as though she was typing for Shannon to contact me and an additional a week later had the audacity to look me in the eye to claim the incident of ignorance in question and her involvement ever happen to begin with. ......YES....I bring receipts. Meanwhile..... Shannon who was going to contact me in the midst of all this never bothered to. Glad I took the liberty to cancel this overheated, equipment damaged, poorly monitored place. It's quite a love and hate relationship between pure barre and I. I was first introduced to pure barre through yelp tampa's fit club events and what made me want to drink the kool-aid even further was the deal they had on groupon! 10 classes for a low price compared to $180? I'm in! After completing my pass, I had no regrets and learned new movements that could asset my current routine. Anyways: The Love: - It is easy on the body. It's a great compliment to any fitness routine as it helps with mobility, while giving you extra core strength. If yoga is not your thing because of the vibe and slow pace, then pure barre is a great substitute. When I think of pure barre, I think of a hip version of yoga ahaha. - Air Conditioned and Clean - Lots of classes available every day so there really is no excuse :). - They sell cute clothing there too. - They do have specials in which the class prices are reduced so keep an eye on that through their facebook page! - Modifications are available, so if you have issues please talk to one of the instructors before hand. The Hate: - It (will) can be quite monotonous. After a few classes you can basically do it at home without the need of paying the high prices. - Pricey. They do have a new client special ($99/month unlimited), but after that it is nearly $200/month for unlimited. wowza. - It's a great compliment to any fitness routine, and I think thats it. It's a good compliment. Most of the weight lost is just water weight during class. - Stress on the monotonous part. - The movements are very tiny. There were many people in class that were doing the movements wrong, so I highly recommend that you guys attend a breaking down the barre class so you can get a better gist of what to do. For example, when they say move in circles..it really doesn't mean move your leg in a circle. So for me, Pure Barre is A-OK. read more

I was recommended to Pure Barre by an acquaintance. It is new and different from other workout places I've been to. I love their workout because they do a mix of yoga, pilates, ballet moves, and others that helps strengthen & tone your whole body with minimal risk of injury. I love that this place is clean and doesn't smell! After going for about a month or so, I do feel a difference. I actually like the sore feeling... I say it's a good kind of sore. The manager, Katie, is very nice and welcoming. I love that during workout sessions she would help correct my posture to enhance my workout. All the instructors are good! Sometimes they offer free classes to teach you the best techniques for the pure barre workouts. I highly recommend trying this place! read more

My friend Cassie invited me to the 'bring a friend to class day'. I'm not a ballet dancer what so ever but I really need to get back to a routine. If you want a workout you'll get one here. Katie was the teacher for my class and she's a sweetheart. She took the time to show me around and then during class helped me with the form and moves. I was a sweaty mess. It's good for working on flexibility and posture. There is a tiny store upfront with merch like socks, clothing, bags etc. and the checkout desk. It's a small studio but lots of space to still claim as your area during the class. They provide you with all ththe equipment so all you have to do is literally show up. Not sure if I'm gonna commit to joining yet; but they always have groupons so those are good to get your feet wet. read more

Pure Barre was an interesting experience. I do a lot of core work and Pilates classes so I am pretty strong in my core. I was thinking that we'd be doing more work with the Barre, so I was really excited to try something new and different! It was a very nice facility, very clean, smelled good. Not your typical gym smell. LOL. We were instructed to leave our shoes outside the actual studio and that's when I noticed that it was carpeted! That surprised me! Our class was called and in we went. We gathered our toys (small ball, red tube, hand weights...I chose both a 3lb set and a 5lb set) and we were off! We warmed up with exercises that I was familiar with, and for a quick second I thought we were going to do Pilates 100, but it was only 20. LOL. There was a lot of terminology that I wasn't familiar with and I had a hard time seeing and hearing the instructor (lights were very dimmed and since she was walking around I couldn't see her) so I struggled with form on some of the unfamiliar moves because I didn't understand the Barre terminology. I was glad I chose both sets of weights because I quickly realized that I could go up to the 5lb weights. And then I had the 5lb weights handy when we did some ball work that I didn't like, and I could put the weight behind my knee and do butt work that way. I was not a fan of working out in my socks. I slipped during planks, and had to quickly pull off my socks to get better traction, and then during the tube work it bothered my feet because of the pressure on the bottom of my foot, so I quickly put my socks back on thinking that would help, but it didn't really. We did very little work on the Barre, which is the main reason I wanted to go!! Perhaps it changes from class to class? But I still got a good core workout, and I was in the company of friends, so it's all good :) read more

I agree with all the positive reviews listed below. If you're a person that doesn't like working out and struggles to push yourself at the gym this is a a great alternative. As someone mentioned earlier the reason I didn't give pb 5 stars is because of the cost. They do have an auto pay option which is a 12 month commitment for $99/month. To me that is reasonable if you go 4-5x a week. Unfortunately you don't have the option to freeze the account unless you have a medical issue and a doctor's note to accompany. However, pb does a GREAT JOB of strengthening core and weight loss if paired with a healthy diet. read more

I am really enjoying Pure Barre. I have been coming 4 days a week, for about 9 weeks now. I have seen some great results so far in terms of strength, muscle tone and lift in my derrière. :) I know that if I actually changed my diet that I would see even more results, so I will probably get more disciplined and do so, but I really wanted to leave this review for everyone to know how great this program is. This program is really challenging, and definitely intimidating at first (for me anyways), but if you stick with it, you will learn it and get results. I enjoy all of the teachers especially Kelly! She explains all the moves really well and is super sweet. If you're looking for a new exercise routine I encourage you to give it a try. read more

I was/am/will always be someone who isn't a huge fan of the gym or places where you feel like too much attention is on you or you are horrible at the workout. Pure Barre is none of these things. The teachers are extremely helpful and there when you need them, but you also don't feel pressured all class, if you tell them its your first class or you are having a sore day they will take note and only help when needed. There are ladies of all ages and body types and levels. I took my first class after a friend wouldn't stop bugging me 2 years ago and I cant imagine my life without it now. You are always challenged and no matter how sore or flexible you are feeling the class sort of molds to that. Its sort of like doing something with your family, you are super pleased when you do a great job and not very embarrassed if you dont. I suggest this for every single lady who is looking for a new exercise, to meet some friends or get out the house! read more

This is not your typical workout. It's a 55 minute class that is a combination of yoga, pilates and dance moves designed to strengthen your core, tone your abs, arms, shoulders, butt, thighs and calves - a total body workout. The first class I went to was extremely hard - I didn't understand the terminology and the rapid movement from exercise to exercise made me feel like I was always behind. I also learned just how out of shape I was. On the other hand, it was nearly zero impact and I didn't feel like I was being pressured to complete anything just to finish. In fact, I couldn't finish many of the exercises. While I was sore the next day, I wasn't in "pain". I took a second class because I felt like I got a good workout (despite being so out of shape that I couldn't finish everything) and it was a little easier to follow (please don't read this as "easier to do"). I then signed up for the one-month, new client special and took a few more classes and after the first week, I could see the change. Now, I'm hooked. The exercises are changed up so that you work different muscle groups and some seem easier than others but the point is, you work your muscles one group at a time to lift, tone and burn. The studio is clean, the instructors are very friendly and more than happy to answer any questions you have or provide tips to make the work more effective. If you can't do one of the exercises, let them know and they will suggest alternatives (I have a bad knee and can't kneel on it). They also offer a free workshop to help you learn the technique and get more out of the workouts. I never thought that I would ever ENJOY exercise but now I do and I absolutely LOVE the results! It is more expensive than a gym membership but I feel that I get a lot more out of this than I have from the gym. I will continue to recommend Pure Barre as a great low-impact workout to anyone who wants to get in shape. read more

I absolutely LOVE Pure Barre Carrollwood. I have been taking classes there since they opened 3 years ago. I can't say enough about how much I love Pure Barre - the studio, the instructors, and the workouts are all fabulous!!! After I took my first class, I was addicted. The work outs are fantastic as it hits every part of your body. Exactly what I need -to Lift, Tone, and Burn!! The music in the class is very motivating as well as the instructor - who are very knowledgeable about using the proper movements to get the most benefit out of the workout. During each class the instructor demonstrates each new exercise with the class which is very helpful. I can't say enough about how much I love this place!!! read more

I have fallen in love with Pure Barre Carrollwood, the instructors, and fellow students! Let me preface that I am not an athlete and do not enjoy working out, but this is not just a work out, this is a sanctuary. Seriously, eveything about this place is amazing! The classes are tough and challenging but super rewarding and you actually see results. There is no judgement here, everyone supports and motivates one another. It is a clean, well maintained establishment in an easy and convienient location, and they on top of everything else sell super cute workout attire and jewerly to reward yourself with! Everything about my experience at Pure Barre Carrollwood has been excellent. I obtained a free week at a local event, Taste of Carrollwood, and finally gave them a call. Whomever I spoke to on the phone Saturday afternoon, April 15th provided solid customer service and answered all my questions. I then took my first class the next morning with the owner, Shannon who is probably a business owner for good reason. She was very welcoming and spent just enough time with me after class to talk technique and form. She gave me a few tips to use for future classes, and got me scheduled out for the rest of the week. There was no pushy sales pitch or tactic of "if you buy today..." which has been my experience at other fitness businesses in the area, and just a turn off for me. I think Shannon let the class speak for itself, and it did. The actual class was the most unique workout I've done in some time, and the only way I can describe it is that the burn feels the same as if I were snowboarding or wakeboarding, which is not what I had expected. The workout is supposed to be low intensity and can be done more frequently. The company recommends at least 1 month to see results, which I will very likely try out. I am already pretty fit, so excited to see where this method takes me. read more

I'm completely addicted! I bought some classes when they had their specials and thought $20 per class was a lot to spend until I started going on a regular basis and saw my body transform. I enjoy my time there and find myself happier on the days I do Pure Barre. I'm finally signing up for auto-enroll because it makes it so much less expensive per class. I recommend Pure Barre to all of my friends! I feel stronger, look better and feel better mentally when I take an hour to do something for myself and really feel the mind-body connection! I feel better than ever and feel more confident. I also love the girls who work there- everyone is so motivating and friendly. I also recommend not just trying it once. It takes a few classes to really "get it" but the instructors are great about helping you during class and will work with you after class if you need help or clarification on any of the movements. read more
